I'm taking a lovely figure drawing class at the moment, with a wonderful teacher who gives individual feedback & a small group of serious artists (myself, a dabbler, not included). You climb up two flights of curving stairs & over broad-beamed rough-wood floors, and painted-over fireplaces, walls covered with (at the moment) children's art... its kind of worth a visit just to climb into the attic for an art class. Anyway... loving it and learning a bit about figure drawing in the process. $200 for 8 classes... not too bad.

The space is very nice and serves various purposes. The inside downstairs has an industrial feel and the up stairs has a more administrative feel. The facility is named Augusta's own famed Opera singer, Jessye Norman. If you ever get a chance to visit for an event or for a youth camp, please do so.

At the end of each month they hold a jazz recital, held by an adult jazz band, the setting has some nice basic seating and up until recently they used to sell wine to offset costs and actualy had heavy hors' deuvres, but they seem to be slowly growing as they now are lookin got get this done by a outsid eparty . When Art Nook started offering evening adult classes, I was the first person to sign up! Taking art to the next level, students are guided through learning a variety of methodologies: acrylic, pastels, colored pencil, watercolor... Classes are again designed for all experience levels, with specific projects in mind and 2-4 week timeframes, depending on the project. Learning how to "art" at Art Nook is amazing. It can be a fun night out, or you can make it completely immersive by joining the ongoing classes. The staff is great with all age groups and ability levels. I love this place! I did the paint a long class here, and it was just awesome! I've never taken a…read morepainting class before. So, I'm going in totally blind. The first one I did was a tree. It looked VERY daunting. Two hours later, my piece surprisingly came out pretty nice! And, I liked it so much that I did it again! I went back to do a lighthouse. I believe the instructor's name on this one was Karen for the lighthouse. That was a tough piece. Karen took a lot of time with us. It was a two hour class, and I had no idea that it had already been three hours! She was so nice. In the end, I was also pretty satisfied with my lighthouse. :) Participants made an evening out of the class, too. Groups went together, and on the lighthouse class, I went on a Saturday night, several people brought wine and snacks. Lots of fun! The two pieces I did made for very nice Christmas presents I gave them to a good friend with whom I did a fall trip with that had the trees with the red autumn leaves and lighthouses. She loved them! I can honestly say that I am hooked! I am definitely planning to go back. There is another lighthouse piece that I'm wanting to do when they feature it.

I've enjoyed some of the art projects my family and I have made here…read more I've also enrolled my child in art camp--but I was very disappointed at what was advertised in the pamphlet, and what my child actually was able to make at camp. She did not get to make as many projects as advertised. I feel like most of her time was spent on coloring sheets--instead of on paintings and on crafts. It's too expensive to pay for my child to go to "art camp" and produce items she could have done at home. It felt like it was a bait and switch. I like the instructors we've had, but I don't like the direction the owner(s) is/are taking this company to make money. I will not do business with them again.
