Very friendly couple who own this salon. My downside are 3 issues. 1. I was told to go to a back wall and pick out polish colors out of hundreds. I wasn't given any samples to look at. 2. During my pedicure I wanted to put my flip-flops on before the polish. The wife refused saying she can't polish with shoes on. I had to wear their paper-thin flops until I dried. 3. She never asked how I want my nails filed. She just did them to her liking. Probably won't go back. read more

Wonderful place! The atmosphere is calm and very clean. They don't do walk-ins, which I like because I get better quality service instead of feeling like they are trying to "turn and burn". Followed the previous Yelp reviews and went to get my nails done here. Apparently, it's been quite some time since I've gotten my nails done, because what I thought I wanted was something totally different than what I asked for! No problem, though. Hieu (Hugh) was GREAT and explained EVERYTHING he was doing and how products have changed over time and showed me exactly what I wanted! I came in with some cute press-on style nails, and liked how they looked-I just wanted them to be more permanent. Hieu told me the difference between regular acrylic nails, gel nails, shellac nails, and "powder-dip" nails. I had no idea there were so many types! I went with the powder-dip type, and Hieu managed to make them look EXACTLY like the press-on ones I had! I was very impressed with the place-they had a great playlist of music going, the other workers were explaining things to other customers, and MY WORD-I have never seen so many different choices of nail colors before! The motto at Tom's is "We're not happy until you're happy :)" and I can see why they have so many 5-star reviews! They really take their time and won't stop until they know you're satisfied. This was my third nail salon I've tried in the area while on the search for my "go-to" place. I've had a couple different people do my nails and they've all been very friendly! I hate getting my nails done with a technician who doesn't even bother to make convo. Their prices are very fair and I've heard people rave about how good their pedicures are. Went in super last minute and received the best service ever! I asked for a gel acrylic set & my aunt got a gel manicure, our nail technicians Julie & Bill were the best :) They kept up a great conversation and gave us the best nails ever. Bill had lots of experience and gave me everything I wanted and more on my acrylic set. Everyone was nice and friendly. I even got notified about my app. conformation through text. I drive 30 minutes from my house just to come here. I go to Tom every time and he is so good at doing an ombre nails. Will NEVER go anywhere else in Hampton Roads. It's a little pricey but definitely worth it! The other staff are super friendly and do a great job as well. read more

I went in without an appointment right after work on a Monday. There was only one person having a manicure but the receptionist asked if I had an appointment because they were very busy. I told her that I didn't; that I had hoped Monday would be a slow day. I had a manicure and pedicure but should have listened to my instincts and left. Not very friendly.
