The dip is only for the base and then they finish it with gel, which I was have avoided for years as I do not want the skin exposure to the UV light. The first manicure was good, not great, but I liked the atmosphere of the salon. It was definitely priced on the higher side, especially compared to US pricing. The returned a month or so later for another manicure and simply got the gel manicure. It last about 2 weeks before starting to chip, which I found unusual. I decided to do my own manicures because I didn't want to continue UV exposure for a gel manicure. So I finally went back last week, after the holidays, to get a "dip" manicure once again, to help protect my nails and keep them strong. I guess I had forgotten they do not do a true dip manicure with powder for the color coat, only the base, using gel and UV for the color coat. Literally within 24 hours one of my nails chipped. And I am not hard on my nails. I decided I would not go back after paying €80. No fill, no artificial nails - just base coat and gel color. And then, two days later, another nail chipped. Maybe it was the nail tech, but I will not return. I expect more out of a salon that charges this kind of pricing.

Thankfully, Simone was there. His English is terrific, but more importantly, he speaks fluent hair, and he instantly knew mine was screaming for help He immediately understood what I had been trying to do, what went wrong, and how to fix it without turning it into an entirely different haircut. He graciously fit me into his schedule, rescued my bangs, and even gave me useful advice for the next time I'm overcome by misplaced confidence while holding a pair of scissors. I would happily return to Simone for any hair service when I am next in Florence, and I would recommend him without hesitation. So please, if you're in town, give him a call. The person who gave me a manicure destroyed my nails - she filed my existing colour off, causing me…read morepain (I did say "ouch" a number of times when she was doing it) and obviously going too deep, weakening all my nails - 2 days afterwards, the gel nail varnish started to peel and now, a week and a half later, 8 of my nails have broken right down to my nail bed - I normally have very strong nails and have never had such a disastrous manicure. I shopped, ate, museums (typical tourist stuff) then had 3 flights home with extra luggage and customs where i had to get my bags, transfer to another flight and then settle on my last leg. One of my bags had broken in transit so i even was carrying it wrapped in plastic (terrible for nails). I've now been home, putting things away and settling in. Its been over a week and my nails still look AMAZING! I wish I lived in Florence for all the normal reasons and now i even have a regular nail girl! Why not move .
