It would be nice to give more than 3 stars but 3 stars is me being nice. Probably don't come here for steak or pork chops. Two people at our table got the Steak and Shrimp. The steak was so tough the whole table was shaking when they tried to cut it. Add in the beyond tough pork chop and it really got rocking. I had the Wild Mushroom Ravioli and it was pretty decent. Our server was decent but the hostess was pretty snooty. I have been here many times and it was sad to see the food go down hill. read more

The service was kind and prompt! I had the lightly breaded shrimp which was amazing! The shrimp bisque was fabulous as well.

The food we had was excellent in the way it was prepared and in its presentation. The Wild Mushroom Ravoli also had 2 medallions of Filet Mignon, I would guess about 4-6 ounces, and they were done to perfection! It was so nice to sit at a table with cloth tablecloths and napkins. The blue cheese brought the funk while the cajun seasoning contributed the capsaicin. It was a unique spicy-n-savory symphony for adventurous eater. And this applies to all the dishes with fries--these were absolutely amazing. They weren't from-the-freezer failures, but rather golden brown, crispy, and delightful. I'd eat a basket of 'em on their own! Fish and chips were flaky and light. Not too greasy, full of flavor and fried to perfection. Paired with such heavenly fries, this was a potently perfect combo. The Pizza was rich with Italian flavors, very cheesy and filling. If you like olive oil and garlic, you won't get sick of this appetizer. Visited here while on a business trip with a colleague. Recommended by our customer and by our hotel. Covid provided a need to make reservations, which we didn't have when we arrived. There were no objections for the two of us to sit at the bar, so we got right in. It was a bit disappointing when we were told that draft beer wasn't being served because of a lowered demand from the smaller crowds. We had a few local beers in cans - a good local IPA. We asked our customer about local delicacies that might be found in Mankato - they laughed and couldn't come up with anything. But the menu showed us Walleye, which said "made in Minnesota" to us. Mine was broiled and his was fried. Both were excellent. The little carrots served as "standard equipment" were a nice change from what we normally see. Atmosphere was nothing to write home about, but the place was clean and orderly. And we came for the food, which was excellent. Craft beer on tap would have made it a little better, but we can't fault them for trying to keep it fresh. A good choice for a good dinner! read more

Went for lunch here with a friend. Had the special which was a French dip with ajus and fries.... It was literally the best French dip I've ever had. Best in Mankato bar none. Fries were perfectly cooked. Will be back to try the steak as I have heard good things! Layla and Dominic were great and very courteous. 5 star service, food, and prices. If you want a medium steak, order it rare. If you want a medium well steak, order it medium rare. A medium steak will come out well. When that happens, the millennial staff will look at you quizzically. I may order my next ribeye blue and see if that gets me medium rare. Pretty sure their cook has no idea what carryover is. Everyone was friendly but not all up in my face. I ordered the 10 oz. sirloin with onions mushrooms and butter along with veggies and a salad. I'm went here on a Tuesday evening. The snow and general bad weather probably had something to do with it being pretty slow. I was traveling and eating alone so I opted to sit at the bar. The bartender was friendly and attentive and made a really great drink. I hadn't eaten all day so I was pretty hungry. I ordered their calamari appetizer. This was really the only disappointment of my meal. It was bland and undercooked and came served with what basically amounted to tartar sauce. My main course was the 16 ounce ribeye, salad, and I opted for veggies in lieu of the choice of potato. The salad was a good size for a dinner salad. Their ranch dressing was really good too. The veggies were cooked perfectly and the carrots and onions were really good. My steak was cooked to perfection at medium rare. It had just enough seasoning to add flavor but not too much that it overpowers the steak. I would definitely recommend this if you're a ribeye lover. All in all it was really good. Like others have said, their decor is interesting and it is tucked back in a little parking lot, but it was worth the drive. read more

I spent a night in Mankato last week and chose Pappageorge to have dinner. I was really looking forward to the artichoke hearts and they were okay but not great, but chalk that up to the fact that I am not a batter fan but a breading fan. Then I had the Greek salad which had a tasty dressing but could have used more of it. And then - AND THEN! - I had the Garlic Asiago Pasta with Chicken, and it was OUTSTANDING! This alone is worth going to Pappageorge's for. And the service was also great. Kaden was attentive without hovering, and as nice as can be! We ordered steak, and the chef cooked it perfectly! The char was outstanding and the inside cooked to medium. It was a real delight! My wife says it was one of the best steaks she's ever eaten. Our waitress was Jennifer. She was very good and friendly. A large selection of specials as well as the regular menu offered good selections. It felt upscale with only moderately upscale pricing. We were satisfied with the meals though didn't order anything too exotic...fish and chips for my husband and rosemary garlic chicken breast with optional spinach and swiss for me. The fries were excellent, fried fish above average. My chicken was average as well. But no complaints... the veggie option instead of potato was uninspiring plain broccoli, califlower, carrot mix. I am torn giving it the great review it deserves because I don't want to not be able to get a seat when I want an excellent dining experience in Mankato. After moving to Seattle the land of amazing cuisine and dining, I am even more sure that Pappageorge is a gift the owner/operators have given Mankato and southern Minnesota. In town to move my daughter into off campus housing, so of course I had to find somewhere yummy to go for dinner. Used yelp to find this little gem. Just like previous yelpers have stated, you would miss it if you didn't know what you were looking for, and even when you pull up you doubt it's going to be a good dining experience! There is nothing positive i could say about the decor when you get inside. It's old-school colors, a little dark and not very attractive. However, The rest of my dining experience was pretty awesome! Jennifer was our server, she is amazing! We ordered cocktails first, I got the Lala. This is the restaurants secret twist on a Long Island iced tea. It's sweet, tastes like fruit punch, don't taste the booze (it's in there trust me). My husband got the wings appetizer and I got the fried Cauliflower. Both delicious. My husband ordered the steak portobello Caesar salad, I had the steak and shrimp. My husband said his salad was noteworthy! My shrimp, fried, jumbo, were delish. The steak, filet, wasn't the best cut, but still tasty. Basic baked potato and steamed carrots. Oh, the bread the brought to the table was warm a delicious.
