What a lovely centre! My experience from start to finish was absolutely wonderful! My initial phone call with the receptionist was great. She was very informative and helped book an appointment time for me. The clinic, from my understanding, is very busy as Dr. Nakatsui sees both medical and cosmetic dermatology and that he is currently the only dermatologist there. My first experience into the clinic was great as the receptionists were once again very friendly and polite. The facility is beautiful and very large. I was taken back to one of the rooms and spoke with one of the nurses who listened very careful Ly to my needs and then provided me with all of the available options they had. Once the nurse and I finished speaking Dr. Nakatsui came in and spoke to me about the various treatments. I was looking for some filler options to my face as I recently lost 25 pounds and you could really see if in my face. Dr. Nakatsui discusses the types of filler he uses which is Juvederm and how it works and ultimately his plan. He said we should start off conservatively first, let the swelling come down and then after a week come back and see if we need more. He said that it is easier to slowly build up than to take down and I appreciated that. I had the procedure done and truly it fairly painless. He utilized topical anesthetic to numb the area and then also used an ice pack device to further reduce discomfort. A few little pinched but over all great experience! My experience at the Nakatsui Dermasurgery has been great. I went in for a hair transplant consult. I spoke with Dr. Nakatsui's assistant, Kelvin, and found him very knowledgeable about all aspects of hair loss and hair transplant surgery. When first meeting with Kelvin you will find that he is in fact bald himself. He was very upfront with me and told me that hair transplants are all a matter of candidacy and supply and demand and that not everyone is a good candidate, like himself. I appreciated his honesty. He made me feel comfortable when discussing this personally sensitive issue. Dr. Nakatsui must be confident in his results if he has a bald guy providing all of the consultations. After speaking with Kelvin for a good hour about various aspects of hair transplants and seeing almost 100 before and after photos, I spoke with Dr. Nakatsui himself. Dr. Nakatsui assessed my situation and took a thorough history and, ultimately, at the end of the consultation he suggested that because of my younger age and the risk of future genetic hair loss, I should trial a medication like rogaine or propecia for about a year and see if the medication can slow down the hair loss and to ensure that I do not have any side effects. If the medications work then we can consider a hair transplant! I appreciated that and I'm so very thankful that he did not push me into a surgery like other doctors I spoke with. If all goes well and the medications help, I will be going with Dr. Nakatsui in a years time. read more

Dr. Groot (and I use the term "Dr." very lightly) was extremely unprofessional and quite ignorant in regards to the comprehension of non- white skin issues. If you are a non-white person I would suggest you rethink your decision to consult with him. The world is changing, when we head towards a new decade there will be an immense influx in non-white inhabitants due to more lenient immigration laws, reproduction, the ageing European Canadian population etc. Thus more physicians must be well versed and competent to assist ALL individuals in order to survive in the new market, like it or not - this is will be the new reality. No longer will a business whom entirely caters to the wants of one group will survive. There are many organization preparing as we speak, I suggest this office follow suite to stay afloat. I had the best experience, although I had to wait a long time to get in even for a consultation. I almost went to another dermatologist, and so thankful I waited. I have hair loss, and patchiness all over, Dr. Nakatusi and his medical staff are all trying to help and are very empathetic to my situation. I also heard he is the best hair transplant surgeon, if I could have been a good candidate for the transplant, he would have been the one I chose. It is too bad I am not a good candidate. I heard such good things about Dr. Groot and went with some expectations. Do NOT go here. You will only waste your money. I went for spot treatment for my face as well as my legs and ended with horrible results. If you really want your money's worth you will have to go somewhere down in the States or Asia because I was told by others that Edmonton is not the best place for skin surgery. I was also told that Dr. Groot graduated from Harvard and all these other good things and thought I would see at least some change to my skin. Well whatever they did, it did not work. I had a chance to sit down and speak with Dr. Nakatsui regarding my hair loss situation. He was friendly and approachable and, ultimately, made me feel comfortable. We discussed the various treatment options from medications such as pills to topical lotions, to injections called Platelet rich plasma (spelling). We also discussed the possibility of hair transplants surgery and went into detail about what the procedure would entail, recovery, and cost.
