Well, I've found my new favorite waterfront restaurant. After spending half an hour trying to figure out where to eat, we decided to drive around Greenpoint. I wanted something on the water and food that was filling after a 2 hours workout and yoga. Yeah. I was going hard this Sunday. Probably won't do this again for another six months. Anyway, we were greeted and asked for an outdoor table to which the host replied "oh it will rain in about 10 minutes." Point 1 kind sir. Thank you for the forewarning. We ordered all at once and was suggested to do both appetizers first, eggplant and brussel sprouts. Followed by the rabbit spezzatino, and a buttery ribeye for the finale. We usually have our pasta side by side with our meat option, leaving us full and heavy. By the time we polished off our Florence style steak (medium rare highly recommended), we were ready for desert. We opted for the olive oil cake with a scoop of pistachio ice cream. Honestly, this meal felt like therapy. If you are in a negative mood, just have a meal here. It's like coming home to the place you've never been, but have always known. I give Naked Dog a 5/5 stars for the emotional shift I felt during the meal... and long thereafter. From the front and back of house - thank you from the bottom of my heart. Two ex-Brooklynites spent a night in Greenpoint. We may be Babyboomers but we maneuvered the landscape like Hipsters. Found this restaurant on Yelp & because they don't take reservations, we arrived via Uber just minutes after opening. We opted to get out of the humidity & got a sweet table towards the back. Our waitress asks our water preference & immediately came back with menus. They had a decent wine list & we both ordered a glass of Prosecco. The room to fill up. A young man came to our table with complimentary focaccia bread. We ordered an appetizer to share, a variety of fried fish, calamari, cod & shrimp, which was perfectly cooked & you could tell was not frozen first. We were tickled with the selection of music playing softly, Jimi Hendrix & some obscure Kinks,our music. The waitress was anxious to take our order & although was attentive we both felt rushed by her. The only negative for the entire meal, because the food was extraordinary! I had the homemade pasta with the Bolognese sauce, I ate every morsel. My friend had the Braised Short Rib over Polenta, fork tender & delicious. We were splurging & ordered dessert. She ordered the Tiramisu & I the Pistachio Gelato. We were both thrilled with our pick & would definitely go again!! read more

Outdoor seating available while social distancing from other tables. The staff working there are so personable and kind. From the manager that sat us down to the waitress and servers in between. Everyone carried a sense of elegance that really made us appreciate dining there. We came here for a light dinner and shared the Polpo $20 and the Spigola $28. Both were very delicious! The pan seared sea bass was cooked perfectly. The meat of the fish was soft while the skin had a crackling crisp. The polpo was a seafood medley with large lightly coated shrimp, calamari and fish. It was a smidge a little over salted but would order again! For drinks we had a draft beer Sorachi $8 and a cocktail Keep Oaxacan $15. We will be back to explore the rest of the menu. read more

Omg amazing!! The food is just plain delicious! Started with a mixed green salad and a Frito mixto delicious greens and freshly fried shrimp, calamari and cod fish. For entrees a whole branzino, a tagliatelle with shiitake mushrooms, a chicken super tasty and a pomodo spaghetti, oh yea the short rib ravioli too! The broccoli table and cauliflower were also great! Our waiter was awesome, cute and fun and great service! We made it for happy hour where there were some great drink specials. Naked Dog's menu is so fully of tempting options it was hard to choose just one item to order! I got the tagliatelle, which was creamy mushroom goodness, and my date got the pappardelle. Amazing spot in Greenpoint for homemade pasta and cozy yet lively vibes! We stopped in on Saturday night with a party of 5 and put our name in- they don't take reservations so I recommend stopping by and putting your name down and heading to a nearby bar for a drink until your table is ready. They called when our table was set and we headed over. The ambience in this place is great. Mood lighting and exposed brick encompass Brooklyn's vibes perfectly. The restaurant was filled with guests sipping wine and cocktails and sharing authentic Italian fare. They have a bar, half-booths, and a few big comfortable booths in the back. We were sat at a large booth towards the back of the restaurant. We ordered a delicious Italian red to share with the table and put in an order for the grilled octopus and pork meatballs as appetizers. I highly, highly recommend. I am not a seafood person and the octopus was light and flavorful all in one with crushed potato and what I think was fennel for a balanced bite. The pork meatballs are juicy and authentic, and the tomato sauce was not over-bearing. (Dip the focaccia in the sauce- amazing). For entrees, we all opted for the homemade pasta. What I tried: Maltagliati, Pappardelle, Strozzapreti, and the Agnolotti. I can't even begin to describe how well put-together the flavors are in these dishes and how the restaurant puts time and effort into every ingredient that goes into these dishes. Naked Dog is a cute little Italian bistro in the middle of nowhere in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. If you're walking towards the water to get a nice view or just enjoy the outdoors, I definitely recommend grabbing a bite to eat at Naked Dog. My boyfriend and I passed by recently for happy hour. They have a nice beer and wine selection for around $5-7 during happy hour. We ordered the calamari, burrata and toast, as well as the meatballs. All these dishes were extremely delicious, well-seasoned and were extremely reasonably priced during happy hour. Also, our bartender was very attentive and provided great service. Honestly, I'll go back to Transmitter Park just to have an excuse to stop by Naked Dog for some more Italian treats. read more

Best happy hour in Greenpoint. Okay, second best after El Born. They give you a choice of their most popular appetizers for ridiculously cheap and in addition to discounts on wine and beer, they have a few cocktail specials for only 8$. I dont remember the bartenders name, but he's always there and he makes an excellent four roses manhattan in addition to the rest. I also strongly recommend the Oaxacan, wow. For food it is hard to go wrong. The meatballs, calamari, burrata, and any pasta. My suggestion if you wanna save a few clams while eating some is hit the bar for the apps and a few drinks then share a main dish from the regular menu. My partner and I came to Greenpoint from DC to celebrate her birthday. We took a look at the map and this place was down the street from our hotel. A nice little stroll through a quiet neighborhood to a very charming and small place. We didn't know what to expect, but whew! What a meal we had. I got the tagliatelle and my boyfriend got the duck, and both were excellent. Might've been short staffed in the kitchen when we were there on a Friday night so the food came out a bit slowly, but we were in no rush. This is going to be my new favorite go to - I'm going to be so annoying. It's one of those places where the food is sooooo good - you talk about it days later while ordering seamless. I would like to start off first with the service - the most important part of going out. The service that was provided by the bartender Giovany (Jovanny? Went for Pizza in Brooklyn but somehow I found the one joint in NYC that "couldn't seat me, serve me or place a to-go order." While disappointed, that rejection was the best thing that could have happen for my taste buds and I. Bartenders provided great service and were more than willing to offer up suggestions on what to order. You start with some delicious focaccia type bread and olives in olive oil. I ordered the Pappardelle pasta as my entree. Simple but delicious. So much so that I ate it before I took a picture, whoops! I followed dinner up with some gelato for dessert. 3 scoop assortment (pistachio, berry sorbet, and some sort of moly delicious white gelato). Everything about this place exceeded expectations. Authentic Tuscan food without any of the Williamsburg pretension. The people who work here (at least some of them) are actually Italian and the food is phenomenal. It's nearly impossible to find a white ragu anywhere and theirs is SO GOOD. And the duck pasta. And the roast duck- my god it's all amazing. The Naked Dog has delicious homemade pasta, my favorites are the short rib ravioli, the mushroom tagliatelle and the agnolotti. They also make an incredible appetizer of Buratta with a mint pesto that I'd be happy to just sit at the bar and have a glass of wine with. Their service, especially the manager there care about your dining experience and are extremely friendly and professional. I highly recommend this restaurant. The price point in my opinion is in line with the quality of their food. If you are looking for a pound of store bought pasta with some generic meatballs or greasy "Italian" food go elsewhere! I love the decor and ambiance at this place, nestled on the corner of a "quiet" street near the East River. The staff was very accommodating and friendly throughout the entirety of our meal. Wine List: Not a diverse selection by the glass, but fair prices -- bottle list was pretty extensive and well-rounded. Grade: 82/100 TORRETTA DI MELANZANE ($16) (Crispy eggplant, fresh burrata, balsamic glaze, basil, Parmigiano Reggiano): If you order this dish, it is mandatory to get every element into each bite. The individual components are fresh, but not awe-inspiring -- but the combination of fresh aromatic basil with the sweet balsamic glaze, creamy burrata cheese, and the crispy, delicate eggplant makes this dish greater than the sum of its parts. Grade: 86/100 PAPPARDELLE ($20) (Pappardelle, beef bolognese, Parmigiano Reggiano): I read several reviews about this dish prior to arriving so I knew I had to try it first-hand, and let me tell you, I'm OH SO GLAD that I did. The homemade pappardelle was perfectly Al-Dente and came out piping out, which is something I value quite highly. The perfectly seasoned beef bolognese adhered to the pasta very well & the Parmigiano brought it all home. Grade: 96/100 BISTECCA ($36) 16oz grass fed Black Angus rib eye, roasted fingerling potatoes, cipollini onion, arugola, shaved Pecorino Sardo): I am a tried-and-true steak fanatic. I've eaten anywhere and everywhere and cook them all the time at home -- this makes me a harsh critic. The steak was severely underseasoned, had large swaths of fat running through it, the herb butter left to marinate on top dissolved the nice crust. The fingerling potatoes were pretty good, but could've been crispier on the outside -- the cipollini onion was quite sweet, throwing off the balance of the dish, indicating that they may have been cooked down a little too long. Grade: 66/100 PATATE FRITTE ($7) (Hand cut fries, Pecorino Romano, herbs) Hello! These fries are off-the-charts good. The sheer aesthetics of the side is amazing, with fresh rosemary sprigs, garlic cloves, and grated cheese permeating throughout the fries. They could've been a little crispier but overall was a tremendous side dish. Grade: 91/100 If you come here, I would stick to the more iconic Italian dishes, you will be thrilled! read more

4 stars for overall experience. Wait staff and general atmosphere was good. The meal begins with complimentary bread and olives. The bread is very very very moist and spongy. I wish it had an olive oil to soak up!!! For dinner, we ordered the fried eggplant with burrata and a sweet thick balsamic which was the highlight of the evening. The eggplant had good flavor and the burrata was unreal. Super creamy. I kind of wish the fry on the eggplant could have been a bit crunchier but I get that the vinegar and burrata also add a ton of moisture. Either way highly recommend it. For pasta, we got the ricotta agnolotti with peas and mint which was ok. Maybe my expectations were too high because I really love agnolotti usually. The pasta and its filling didn't pack much flavor and I also didn't get any truffle in the sauce which could have been a smoother consistency. Primary flavors were pea and mint. The peas were just cooked, not too soft, still a bit starchy. Overall I wasn't in love with the flavors or textures. We also got the maltagliati with pork raft and rosemary. Funny that they say rosemary because I think the primary flavor is nutmeg? This dish was a little better. Tons of seasoning on it. Would recommend trying but would not go out of my way for it. We also got a cocktail which was good though not worth $16. All the food prices were fair given the portion size. read more

Wow what a hidden gem! A couple of weeks ago I stopped inside Naked Dog for dinner and boy was it good! The food was so good that what started off as a light dinner ended up being a total feast! To start off with, my friend and I each had a cocktail (my friend got the Greenpoint Witch and I got The Beagle, a variant on an old fashioned). We were going to get a bottle of wine to split, but the cocktails looked good so we decided to indulge. Note to future customers: due to the small size of the kitchen, you need to order all of the food at once! We decided to split the Bruschetta with Pesto and Burrata to start off with. I wish it was bigger because it was really the perfect appetizer! The pesto had a bit of mint in it, and the burrata was a perfect refresher to the salty and herbaceous pesto. For entrees, we split the tagliatelle and the ravioli. Although each were very good, the ravioli stuffed with short rib in a brown butter sage sauce was AMAZING! The tagliatelle itself was cooked beautifully, but we thought it could've used some more mushrooms--they seemed more like a garnish than an integrated part of the dish. And here's where our dinner got crazy. We had been eyeing the Spezzatino (short rib) on the menu, but thought pasta would be a better idea. Then the short rib came to the table next to us, and it looked so good that we decided we had to have it! The short rib was fall apart soft, and placed on polenta that was light, cheesy, and homey all at once. We were both so full already, but it was impossible to take some home because it was so good! For dessert we each got espresso martinis, which were amazing because they weren't super creamy. They tasted like real espresso martinis, not something you could get at an ice cream shop! Service was also great. Though our server seemed new (I didn't know if we were saying the Italian language menu wrong or if she didn't know the menu yet, but we had to point to most of the things on the menu for her when ordering) she really ended up warming up to us by the end of the meal. She was joking with us when we ordered our espresso martini desserts; she was expecting us to order another entree lol! We felt welcome the whole time and will definitely be returning! We had a date night dinner here of Friday night. It was good to see that the place filled up quickly. We decided to try all new items. We split the kale Caesar and a wild mushroom lasagna. Both were ok. The lasagna was pleasant but lacked flavor. Perhaps salt would have helped, idk. I won't get it again. For entrees I got the sea bass and my partner got lamb special. Both were ok too. The meat was soft but not juicy and my bass could not be compared to branzino that I always get. But overall we still love the spot. It's super cozy, friendly and neighborhoody. read more

It is right by the Greenpoint waterfront so we made a 4th of July dinner reservation before a viewing of the fireworks. So glad we did. The place is so cute and the food is amazing! We shared the Bruschetta Pesto and Burrata as many yelpers recommended and oh my world it was mouthful of flavor from the Pesto and creaminess from the burrata on crispy bread! We also had the duck with risotto and maltagliati with pork ragu. My fiancé enjoyed his pasta and I loved the duck. The breast was prepared to my choice of doneness and rested on a bed of fluffy risotto with blood orange reduction. The risotto has a consistent texture and was not too runny to sticky and the orange reduction highlighted the dish and added a canard-à-l'orange flavor to the dish. Even though the place is not the most centrally located, you should totally pay a visit to Naked Dog if you are looking for Italian fare any day! read more

I am not normally an online reviewer so this review is long overdue. We discovered this absolute gem several years ago pre-pandemic and are so grateful they survived. Hands down our favorite restaurant in all of NYC. We have only eaten inside, where the rustic decor is stunning, and the staff and owner treat you like family. My boyfriend & I were sat at this cozy corner booth/table where we were able to cuddle up with this huge bottle of red wine (pictured). The ravioli & pappardelle were perfectly cooked & so yummy. We just moved into Greenpoint, and decided to go to the Naked Dog since its only 2 blocks from where we live, and had hopes that it could be a nice close local spot for when we don't want to cook dinner. We ordered a few things from the specials menu: brussels sprouts, and I believe the squid ink pappardelle ragu. My husband ordered the short rib from the regular menu. I gotta say, the brussels sprouts are the best I've had in a long time! Other places are either too soft / soggy, or not charred or crispy enough. The sprouts here had a good balance of both - plus lemon, capers, and I think sardines? It was sooo delicious, I wish we ordered a second bowl! The squid ink pappardalle was passable. I thought it was kind of bland - the pappardelle wasn't all coated in sauce, there were a bunch of pieces that were stuck together. It was a bit disappointing, as I had wanted to try something off the specials menu. The short rib that my husband got was actually incredibly dry, which is so surprising since short rib is fatty and should be melting fall-off-the-bone delicious!! The waiter came by to check in, and my husband mentioned the dry meat. He offered to swap it out, but my husband said its okay, he'll just carry on. We thought we'd let them know, but we usually feel bad if the kitchen has to redo a meal. It really wasn't pallatable, so we think we got a bad cut but were gonna take it home and repurpose it somehow. In the meantime, the waiter told the manager about the meat, so she came by to check in again and see if there's anything they could do for us. So this is why I'd definitely come back - I know we should have accepted the waiter's offer to change our dish the first time, but knowing that we still had dish we weren't happy with, they came back to make sure that they can do something to change our minds! The new shortrib that came out was SO much better, 180 degree turnaround from what we originally had. The meat was properly juicy and had so much more flavor than the first one. Looking back, I do kind of wish I said something about the pappardalle special - I always get torn on whether to say something, especially if its 2 out of 2 main items...! Anyhow, most of the food was good, but I was especially impressed that the staff went out of their way to make things right. Will def come back! read more

All of these other reviews are really spot on. We came around 930 pm on a Saturday night and while it was busy, we only waited about 5 minutes for a table. The hostess/wait staff were all very nice and quick to take our orders. Drinks: Strong and good, wow. I got the pink panther and I have to say it was really fresh and worth the price. Food: WOW WOW!! SO GREAT and really not expensive for food around NYC. Their was a salmon special that we got that I would highly recommend. Cooked perfectly. Also, got the Orecchiette because a guy who walked passed us recommended it. For a side, we got the Brussel Sprouts and pancetta. The pancetta made the dish. Overall, great experience and would definitely come back when I'm in the area. The overall atmosphere was mellow and beautiful. read more
