Sarah gave us the tools and coaching we needed so that we can now once again walk Finn in public, have people come to the door and enter our house without issues, and take Finn to the vet without problems. I say "rewarding" because at our weekly training sessions it was amazing to see what Finn could do once properly trained and more importantly, how much he wanted to succeed. We could not be more pleased with our dog's progress even after the first meeting with Sarah. The…read morelist of difficulties we had with our dog was long even after she went through a complete training class with another trainer in our area. We have a dog that is not typically motivated by treats especially when she has other plans on what she wants to do. This all changed very rapidly working with Sarah. Annoying uncontrollable barking gone, destructive chewing also corrected, eating habits greatly improved. Response to commands also greatly improving every week. It appears that our dog knew all along what we wanted her to do and now she is doing it. The most surprising thing is that our dog seems much happier and we are now seeing primarily the affectionate side of her personality rather than the hyper, anxious, barking side of her personality. Finding a dog sitter was also a challenge before we worked with Sarah because of our dog's difficulties. Now we can be confident that she her behavior will not be a problem for the sitter.

Our two courses this winter were conducted via Zoom and were extremely effective. The next course, this spring, will be in person! The training from Proper Paws has been instrumental in helping our Puerto Rican rescue dog settle into our household. Judy has given us the tools we need to prevent or react effectively to behaviors such as begging at the table, pulling on leash, jumping/nipping, lunging to greet other dogs, etc. While these are all normal dog behaviors, Proper Paws has helped us guide our pup toward more desirable behaviors and we see a real difference. More importantly, we work on crucial safety behaviors such as "stay" and "down" that can make all the difference in a dangerous situation. All of the training is through positive reinforcement. We learn not to expect perfection but, rather, to appreciate progress. I highly recommend Judy and her program for anyone looking to solidify the bond with their dog and teach both humans and dogs in the household to interact positively and be safe in all variety of situations. She has rolling admission, lots of options for classes, and takes a wholly positive approach to training dogs. We have followed her recommendations and now that we are approaching week six, our puppy is actually pretty well behaved! She's not perfect, but I am aware of what I need to work on to change that (thanks to Judy), and I know it is within my power to change the behavior that I don't like by using the positive methods she teaches. She also offers a free socialization class for puppies younger than 18 weeks old. This is basically a class where you watch a bunch of adorable puppies play with each other and learn what is okay in terms of play behavior, what is not, and how to guide your dog toward a positive play experience. It is my favorite hour of the week because they are SO SO CUTE. I don't have photos from the formal class, but it is held in the same space. The pictures are all from socialization class. When we finally pull up, I have to brace myself because she drags me to the front door, eager to get inside. I am really terrible about asking about a pet sitter last minute and she was always available even on that one occasion I asked only two days before we were scheduled to leave due to some last minute plans. She came in advance to meet our cat and our finicky girl took to her right away. She's sweet, professional, flexible, and took fantastic care of our cat over weekends and even 10 day vacations. I am an anxious pet parent and she sent regular photos of my cat to reassure me that my Bug was in good hands. Now, with all the coronavirus craziness, she is still checking in on her pets and making sure everyone is doing okay. Also, it's worth mentioning that her pricing is more than reasonable. They don't pay attention to the dogs well-being nearly enough, for example we have been leaving our puppy there and have told them that he is having diarrhea but every time we pick him up and ask if his poop was normal they says, "oh yeah, everything was fine" or "I don't know, I didn't work with him" and then when he gets home he continues to have diarrhea. They don't interact with their clients at all, at the end of the day they are just telling you what you need to hear to leave them alone. The only positive thing I can say is that our puppy comes home looking happy and he is tired from playing. Edit: 3 days after posting this review, instead of reaching out to me they called and tried to bully my fiancee into changing it deleting this review. Rather than addressing the issues she just denied any problems and ended up just making my fiancee upset.
