This is one of the better crystal shops that i've been to since I've been back to NYC. I'm originally am from Portland, OR and I'm used to the crystal shop scene over there. Me moving back to New York I was looking for a shop that was very simiar to the shops that I would frequesnt back in Oregon and I didnt disappoint. This store has a very good selection of books, crystals, flower esences and staff are very knwledgable when it comes to your needs. I also had liked the tarot card reader in the back who seemed nice. I experienced racial profiling at Namaste Crystal Shop, on March 21, 2026, at 2:05 PM. I am a Afro-Latina woman and was the only Black person in the store. The difference in how I was treated compared to other customers was clear and unacceptable. I was not greeted or offered help at any point, while other (white) customers were. Instead, I was closely watched the entire time I was in the store. At the front of the store, a male employee pretended to organize items but was actually staring directly at me for several minutes while I was looking at incense. I paid attention to see if he was actually working or watching me, and it became clear he was pretending to organize while staring at me. When I called him out, he denied it and walked away. In the middle of the store, while I was looking at the incense you can hand pick, a female employee was also staring at me and following my movements. I purposely moved side to side to see if she was following me, and she mirrored me each time. I called her out, she denied it, and walked away. Still in the middle of the store, when I moved to look at Florida Water, that same male employee continued staring at me from the register. When I asked him for help, he went to the same female employee who had just followed me instead of helping me himself. She told him the answer, and he relayed it back to me, showing he was not knowledgeable about the products yet was quick to follow and watch me. Then I went to the back of the store to look at mala beads, and from the middle of the store that same male employee continued staring at me again. This happened multiple times within about 20 minutes. I confronted him again and asked why he kept staring at me and why I had not been greeted or asked if I needed help. He admitted that he did not greet me or ask if I needed help, and when I had to ask for assistance, he didn't want to help me and was not knowledgeable about the products I had questions about. I went next door to their sister store, Namaste Bookshop to ask for a manager's contact information. The employee was hesitant to provide it and incorrectly said there was no email. When I called the number given, no one answered. In the past, I've shopped here and this never happened to me, which makes this even more disappointing. I've visited this place here and there over the last 10 years, and absolutely adore it. It's a great place to find gifts for my friends (and myself!), and fun to browse. The service is always friendly and helpful, and there is such a great selection of crystals and jewelry. Was racially profiled here yesterday. I stopped in because I could smell the incense from outside and it smelled amazing, so I went in to buy some. I had never been here before and was pleasantly surprised to discover it was an esoteric bookstore. As someone interested in that kind of thing, I happily started browsing the aisles. Unfortunately, that excitement didn't last long. A skinny dark-skinned man with bug eyes stared at me and followed me throughout the store. At first, I thought nothing of it. I assumed he worked there and was going to ask if I needed help. He never did. Instead, the cashier was the one who offered assistance while bug eyes continued to shadow me from aisle to aisle. When I moved, he moved. When I stopped, there he was. It became so obvious that I finally asked him why he was following me. He looked startled and quickly retreated, clearly embarrassed to have been called out. By then, any interest I had in browsing or spending money there was gone. Nothing ruins the experience of discovering a new bookstore quite like being treated like a thief for the crime of existing while Black. I only bought the incense because that's what I originally came in for, and honestly, I regret even giving them that much. I told the cashier what had happened. He apologized, but the damage was already done. I left feeling dirty, unwelcome, and deeply disappointed. What should have been a delightful discovery turned into a reminder that some people see customers and some people see suspects. Needless to say, I will never return and will never recommend this place to anyone. The only good thing about my experience was that the incense smelled amazing. Thankfully, books can be bought elsewhere, and Amazon doesn't follow me around the aisles. read more

My boyfriend, a regular shopper at Namaste, went in today like he always does. He was looking around when the manager who refused to identify himself, started hovering over him. My boyfriend politely told him he didn't need help. Instead of backing off, the manager completely lost his temper and said, "This is how we do it in here and if you don't like it you can leave." My boyfriend chose to leave, and I was on the phone with him the entire time. He decided to stop by the other Nasmate store, but the same manager literally ran over there, told the employees not to help him, and even threatened to call the police. This behavior was unprofessional, hostile, and disturbing. Considering my boyfriend is a Black man, I cannot ignore the possibility that this was racially motivated. Customers should feel safe and respected in a store -- not targeted and humiliated. read more

For several years I had horrible experience with their front desk. They are super rude, unprofessional, double book at the same time . Especially the owners son used to do that a lot who would answer the phone. I thought he was the worst, but who really won the price is their employee who said he is " the manager " Carlos. He is the worst. The reading was cancelled due clinician not feeling well and I was notified. Then I still received an email as if it is happening, I called and checked and they said it is not. I told them they had to refund me. Thry promised, but never refunded. I called in couple of weeks and when I called Carlos was on the phone. He never bothered to get my name and said the money were refunded and that he spoke to me yesterday ( while I called several weeks ago not yesterday!!) Then he told me " I refunded to you, you are lying!" What kind of experience and customer service is that? I would give zero starts if I could!!!! read more

For everything Zen, New Age and spiritual, Namaste has always been my go to shop. From books on many spiritual topics, sound bowls and jewelry to crystals, stones and incense, this shop covers and carries a lot. The staff wasn't particularly friendly, but if you manage to ask a question, some were quite knowledgeable. The space was a bit tight to navigate around. For those who are interested, they have tarot readings going on in the back, presumably by appointment. Their merchandise is abundant--the store is jam packed with books, statues of deities, stones, yoga accessories and a lot more. Expect it to be pricey. If Spiritual/New Age is something that intrigues you, then Namaste Bookshop is a must visit. It is easy to buy more than originally intended. Wonderful store. read more

I was a little nervous to walk into Namaste since I didn't know exactly what I was looking for, but once I stepped inside I was fascinated by their selection. I could've spent hours looking at every single crystal in the store in addition to everything else they sell, but I was short on time and was very happy when an employee offered me assistance. Sorry!) was extremely knowledgeable and had an answer to every question I had, his advice was great and saved me at least an hour of wandering around and googling every single thing. I wanted to love this place, but, for me, the vibes were off. First red flag was when the girl behind the register was doing someone's reading so loudly that you could hear it echoing through the entire store. Shhh that's somebodies personal spiritual information you got on the loud speaker. Second, it felt super touristy and commercialized. And third the music. At one point the song lyrics were talking about how much like Satan we all are, and to that I say "I'm a child of God" so I rebuke that entirely. I always prefer a soft sound scape, like wind chimes or ocean breeze. Something with a higher vibration than pop music about Satan. Once the song started playing, I realized I needed to put my incense back and leave. In short, I want the place that I buy my spiritual tools from to feel aligned, and energetically, this place feels a bit chaotic and low vibrational. read more

For fun, booked a spontaneous reading and it was all wrong. She would say vague statements and then asked me (How does this sound to you? Does this make sense?) I told her it was the opposite of what was happening in my life, and then she paused and would say "oh interesting.." etc.. so spent more than half the reading trying to see if these vague statements were matching with anything I had in mind. If you go for a reading here, be sure to avoid giving leading questions. The whole thing was off, I asked for a refund which they obliged- so at least that was reasonable :) read more

I went in the other day for a reading. I sat with Catherine Marks for one hour. I had a specific matter on my heart that I wanted to address via third party. I was not able to address my situation. Catherine took control of the session as soon as we began the session. When I asked questions she wanted to know why I was asking them. I had no space to ask the questions that I needed to be addressed. I was met with the question why and intense direct eye contact. That I now find odd not being in the moment. he reading was inaccurate concerning what I went in there for. She read the person inaccurately. I went in to address a matter and instead was guided down a thread she set. I was not there for that. And the small amount of time she spent of what I wanted to address was both negative and inaccurate. I did call to speak to the manager yesterday morning concerning the reading. I was not given a call back as of yet. However, if you want to a reading in which you cannot get your specific matter addressed and controlled by the reader, this is your person. I can say no more than that unfortunately. I ended up resolving the matter with the person and this was much more fruitful. read more

It pulls you in from the outside and a visit for just one thing easily turns into a purchase surpassing $100 but you'll love everything you purchase. The store boasts a wide collection of spiritual materials such as books, candles, sage, incense, black copal, wind catchers and astrology materials. They also have a wide array of jewelry that are believed to have different healing properties. The workers are pretty knowledgeable and can direct your needs to the products best suited. I love how they burn sage after the shift changes and the workers are switching. Nothing but good vibes. Came here after one of my yoga students recommended this place. This place is heaven for spiritualists, yogis, healers, hippies, and the likes. Their bookshelves are filled with interesting books ranging from spiritual literature to Ayurveda, astrology, etc. They also have singing bowls, sage, palo santo, journals, tarot cards, pendulums, and more. They have a wide range of crystals including the rare moldavite. I found their palo santo to be overpriced. You can get them at a much lower rate at Whole Foods. The customer service was excellent, engaging, and very friendly. I bought a yoga sutra translated by Gregor Maehle. Beware of getting a reading here. I paid in advance for my reading, gave the reader my receipt ticket and I saw the reader set the Timer on her phone. Well, I was busy listening and trying to make sense of the reading, she went over the time I paid for. The front desk charged me for the over time. Yeah, I feel there was bait and switch going on here. I paid for what I wanted and could afford, the reader set the timer on her phone and only she could see it. not like it beeped or anything. The reader should have said time is up and asked me if I wanted to continue. that is the professional way of doing a reading. I was actually planning on buying a crystal I saw but couldn't afford it after I was forced to pay for the over time. The whole thing left me with a very bad taste. read more

This pains me to give this review, as I come here a lot, and despite knowing that their prices are ridiculously overpriced, I've still spent a lot of money here. I have to agree with the reviews of some staff members not being particularly helpful or nice. There is one guy that's been consistently great (dark hair, beard), I'm pretty sure he's gotta be one of the owners or managers, but he's been super helpful and nice, even taking me personally to their new 2nd shop a few doors down. I come here when I need a nice break from the day, to browse and listen to the music. It's a very calming store. I have to say, I don't love their return policy. Very clearly stated on the receipt that you can't return crystals, everything else is at the discretion of the manager. I wound up buying a Tarot deck last week, and turns out it wasn't anything like I was expecting. The only thing that happened from purchase to me walking in and attempting to get a store credit was taking off the plastic wrapping off the deck. I asked a girl at the register and she flat out said no, they don't take returns because they can't resell it. Too bad I saw: 1. Rewrapped Tarot decks blatantly on the shelf for sale. Yes. Loosely placed plastic wrap sealed with Scotch Tape. 2. OPENED decks on the ground for people to peruse. So two things could have happened here: 1. Rewrap the deck the way you've rewrapped the others. 2. Don't rewrap it. Toss it down with the open decks as there were no open decks of the deck I got, and surely people should be able to see them before purchasing. I was going to exchange and get a new product from them even though as already stated, it's grossly overpriced. When I wasn't worked with at all, I put that deck down and walked out while simultaneously ordering that same deck on Amazon. For $10 less. read more

The fourth time I saw a dead body, it was my then-best friend. 2004. She was brain dead but her blood continued to pump and her breath continued to heave through her lungs, thanks to hospital machines. I had seen dead bodies before, but they were hardened from rigor mortise or embalming fluids. I thought Ana would still look like herself. I was even prepared to see a rigor mortise version of her, but she looked like... just a bag of skin. Her beautiful face was unrecognizable, even though my eyes searched. This was my first hint that the way energy inhabits form affects body architecture. This holiday season my longtime close friend told me she wants to schedule an appointment for me w a reader and get some healing done --she'll pay for it. My friend has a Yale law degree. We first met at the top artist residency, internationally, when the theme was post-colonial, post-modern, conceptual-based art. She's a solidly well-informed person... who knows I've proclaimed myself an atheist and karma disbeliever for the past 9 years. These are several reasons why I was intrigued by her offer (and considerably flattered she would determine such an offer to be essential and paramount for me, that she would personally invest in it). I decided to say yes. She explained to me that readers have different talents, ways of saying things, strengths and modalities, and you choose accordingly. What you want to do helps decide which reader to select. What you want to work on or ask, helps you decide who's modalities and background philosophies are right for you. After some talking through together, she further researched and discussed w me who might good choices for my goals. Half of my session was reading and half was healing. On the reading: Internally I was still a bit on the sidelines, but my interest peaked every time the reader used my unspoken, personal, internal vocabulary when I work on my clients as a yoga therapist. On the healing: First the healer asked if I would like to cleanse old traumas. FYI, I have seen professionals from the judicial and medical system get teary-eyed over my multitude of childhood traumas. I went ahead and said yes, pls do. ...Well, after that segment of my appointment, two hours later, I started to have diarrhea for nearly 24 hrs. I know, TMI! It was like a lengthy mechanical detox going on. After this unorthodox situ, I swear I LOOKED different. My architecture shifted. In fact, two weeks later, I returned back to Texas, and my very, very critical mom raved on FaceTime that I looked so good. She asked me what did I do? But, I realized when I came home, it was cracked & glued back to resale which disappointed.
