We shopped the area for our new home and the real estate agent took us here to discuss and weed through places we were considering. We returned . The cooking is great -sort of home style comfort food vibe. I always have the burger. Fries are great too. We were detoured from the 20E due to an accident and drove through Willis Point. What a great find! The chimichunga was full of flavor and a nice surprise was the meat chili on top. My husband had the daily special Catfish and shrimp meal which included 2 sides fries and beans and his choice of desert and of course he chose the pecan pie. Nana & Papas Bluebird Cafe was a welcome stop on my trip to Wills Point. This authentic little country cafe really delivers! I ordered the Saturday Special which was a Hamburger Steak, smothered in Mushroom Gravy with Texas Toast and 2 Sides, which in my case I chose Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans. Quaint little place in small town Wills Point. Passing through and not knowing this town we counted on our Yelp App and the reviews took care of us. Pulled up to this Mom and Pop Cafe and we were greeted by a friendly staff. We seated ourselves and you have to order at the counter. All choices were on the chalkboards and the options were plenty and ranged from Burgers to Chicken Fried Steak to Salads to Sandwiches to Nachos to Breakfast and all points in between. I decided on the Fried Catfish and my husband on a Cheeseburger. The food was great and a surprise for me was for .50 cents you can select a dessert. Now these deserts are not small. They are slabs of various kinds of cake and Banana Pudding. My husband and I live in a big city so spending time in this little out of the way place among regular country folk was a wonderful break from the hustle and bustle of Fort Worth. Would we go back? The food is mediocre at best. But it's the lack of customer service that will keep us from going back. We ordered our meal & paid. I then remembered that I forgot to ask for a side of ranch. I asked for the side & immediately said if it costs extra that's totally fine, feeling bad that I forgot & that it would be another transaction even though there was no one waiting behind us. What got me was when I asked my husband if he had cash (knowing that running a card for 81 cents wouldn't be worth it - he told me he had a $20 - the lady ringing up the order (brunette with a bun & glasses) threw her head back, rolled her eyes & scoffed. After that uncalled for reaction I asked which would be easier, a $20 or card? Which of course the response was what I already knew, it would cost them more to run the card than the side of ranch. Great for a burger and sweet potato fries. But if you also want some southern food its for you. They have pie by the slice and other goodies. But remember to not come in a rush it not fast food. I had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and fried okra all of which were delicious. My wife had the stuffed avocado with chicken fajita meat. Overnight stay at Open Water Cabins so we went to go eat. Not alot of choice in Wills Point but the Bluebird is a rare gem. Small town friendly and menu hand written. My bacon cheeseburger and fries brought memories as grease dripped. Hand cut fries were so good. My dining companion had a Supreme burrito. He said as good as he ever had. I can't believe I'm writing this review, because I just can't believe what just happened at this restaurant. First off, I want to say that we love the Bluebird Cafe. It is our tradition to stop here after picking up our kids from camp. This time, we brought both Grandmas along too. We ordered food for 7 people and when our food came, we were missing one of two chicken finger baskets. Our waitress (Ashley I think) apologized and said she'd bring it right out. We waited and waited... our family finished our food and we were still missing my son's food. I went up to ask the cashier (Melissa I think)... she apologized and told me there were still lots of orders ahead of me. I was very confused and asked why they didn't put our missing order on top. She could not give me a straight answer but refused to put the order in first. My husband came up to see what the trouble was. She explained that the waitress did not tell the cook to put in our missing order in first, and the cook now refused to make the chicken basket before he finished all the existing orders (Wait. What?). We had been waiting 30 minutes for his food and now we have to wait longer? Instead of making this right and making my son his food, the cashier gave us a cash refund. It just does not make sense that when you make a mistake, you don't try to make it right ASAP. My son never received his food. Not a lot of choices in Wills Point but if your are in the area this is one place you should try. The menu is written in chalk on a wall above register & was bit overwhelming with so many selections. You order at counter and they bring your food to your table. For most part the place was really clean except a vent that was blowing air over several tables. Food was delicious home cooking. As we watched others receive their food it all looked like good home cooking meals. We started with fried pickles that were deliciously fried to perfection. I meant to ask if the pickles were home canned. They were thick and had the best flavor. We both ordered boneless chicken. I had boneless battered fried chicken strips, fresh cut fries, country gravy & a piece of toast. Only thing I didn't expect was a actual piece of toast instead of tx toast on a grill. Hubby ordered buffalo chicken bites with xtra sauce & home fries. Said the sauce was comparable to Franks hot sauce & if you ever ate Franks then you know about how hot it can be. The only reason I didn't give this Bluebird Cafe 5 stars was the dirty vent & the ladies behind counter never smiled & honestly seemed a bit ticked off. Maybe they were having a bad day.
