This dermatologist has one of the worst office staff I have ever encountered. They are rude and simply not helpful. I had what looked to be a very concerning mole. I had been out of town for several years and when I called for an appointment, I was told I would be considered a new patient and that I would have to wait about 6 months for an appointment. When I explained that I had a very concerning mole, the person on the fone repeated I would be treated as a new patient and that I would get an appointment in 6 months. When I said, okay, what would the receptionist recommend I do, she repeated I would be treated as a new patient and would be seen in six months. I then asked if Dr Aria had a standby physician whom I could see. The receptionist then again stated I would be a treated as a new patient and I could be seen in six months. I might as well have just gotten voice mail on a loop. When I said to her that she was merely repeating the same thing over and over again, she hung up. I called again, got a man and made an appointment six months in advance. But, then I found out they simply cancelled my appointment. Is Dr. Aria running a medical practice? By the way, in the past, when I went for my appointment, the office staff had me answer verbally on the phone all the medical questions they had (some of which were confidential) while sitting in the parking lot for anyone to overhear. There does not seem to be a care in the world about HIPPA. Good luck with this physician and her office staff. The Doctor came highly recommended on NextDoor. But, I don't think I would write a good review given my experiences with this doctor and, in particular, her office staff. What an abomination! read more

Did not like this doctor at all. Will never see her again. 1) I needed to undress but they didn't give me a gown -- just a paper sheet. 2) She didn't talk through the procedure to tell me what would happen and to get my consent. She just started working on me. 3) She didn't give me any aftercare instructions. When I got home, I looked up the procedure on reputable websites like Mayo Clinic and it turns out that there is aftercare that needs to be done. I felt like the quality of care was shoddy and, most important, I want to work in partnership with my doctors and that''s not at all what this felt like. I appreciated that when I arrived I was taken straight back and did not have to sit in the exam room long. I have visited Dr. Aria twice thus far; once for an introductory visit to address psoriasis, and once for a head-to-toe evaluation with add-on skin tag removal. Both times the staff were incredibly friendly, professional, and accommodating. A few reviews mention Dr. Aria's "coldness." I can see where they may interpret her interactions as such; Dr. Aria is efficient, and doesn't really chat. However, a doctor's bedside manner is not the sum of his or her expertise; While Dr. Aria can be direct and clinical in her approach, she is still conscientious and warm as the situation dictates. I have had over two years of an abdominal rash that was mis-diagnosed and even dismissed by dermatologists and other doctors. Dr. Aria recognized it as "inverse psoriasis," which looks different than plaque psoriasis. This was such a relief to me, because Dr. Aria finally was able to diagnose and provide treatment. She answered questions that I had, and left me with her team to address prescription and home care needs. I am quite satisfied with Dr. Aria, and intend to continue seeing her. read more

I cannot begin to thank Dr. Aria enough! Last year I had the skin pen/micro needling treatment (5 or 6 sessions that carried over to Feb 2020) for my deep acne scars that I've had on my face for over 15 years. I've tried laser treatments, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and others in the past and none have given me the amazing drastic results that the skin pen gave me!! The skin pen is hands down the absolute best treatment for my acne scars. Dr Aria prescribes the numbing cream that I put on 30 min before each treatment. I use the entire tube, and I feel no pain during the micro needling. It always feels like I'm getting a message. Dr. Aria was recommended to me after having a horrible experience at another dermatologist and I have to say it was the best experience yet. I found her and her staff to be friendly, they took a detailed history and actually seemed willing to help me. I felt like my concerns were taken seriously and they actually listened to me and didn't want to just 5row medications at me. What I really liked was they gave me samples to try instead of prescribing something to see if it would work. Dr. Aria was upfront about one of the medications she gave me and while I have horrible dryness (which she mentioned) the medication is really working after just one week. I had previously seen dermatologist Dr. Joseph Kaufman in Alexandria to look at a dark and raised spot that had developed about 2 inches from my eye. Dr. Kaufman sprayed it with nitrogen and it lightened in color after pealing but never went away. I called Dr. Kaufman's office 5 months later but they couldn't see me for another 3 months. Dr. Kaufman charges a $30 copay for BCBS members. I called Dr Aria and she could see me in a week so I booked an appointment with her. However, Dr Aria charged me a $40 copay and a separate $15 charge to spray the spot once with nitrogen. I never had to pay such a high copay or a separate $15 charge for 1 nitrogen spray application. I presented the cashier with my BlueCross debit card to help pay the copay. When the cashier ran my card, it charged it $7.00 but wouldn't deduct anymore. The machine printed a $7.00 receipt but the cashier said I still had to pay a full $40 because it didn't process and write an additional check for $15. I told her it did and we argued for 5 minutes. I called the bcbs phone number, spoke to a rep who told me it was processed, but the cashier insisted I pay $40. I got a bill from bcbs 1 month later stating I had to produce an itemized receipt for this $7 charge. I called and told Arias office what happened and it took 3 weeks for them to send me an itemized receipt and get it straightened out with bcbs. I will never go back here. read more

This was really not the best experiences. I have fair skin and a family history of skin cancer. (Real skin cancer, down to the lymph nodes, full blown---not omg I had a mole removed.) Dr Aria was dismissive and not very interested. The exam seemed like a chore to her. She asked about my history a few times. Repeatedly, she told me what my results were before asking. And she was incorrect. After being corrected a few times she listened a little better. Then she removed a mole, for what seemed to be no reason. It seemed she was doing it for appearances. Other doctors explain why they remove things, most wait a visit or two before removing. On my first visit to Dr Aria she removed something with no justification. When I brought up other issues of things that were bothering me, i.e. my skin breaks out more now for no reason. She did a quick glance of my skin and said it looked fine. Again, dismissive. I explained it comes and goes for no reason and wanted something to help alleviate it when it comes again. She prescribed I buy HER face wash. Never bothered to ask what I was already using on my skin. Never asked about the circumstances surrounding the break outs. Every other doctor I've had inquires about what I'm currently using before prescribing me the same exact thing. I've been to a lot of dermatologists due to the fact I move around and I've had skin issues my whole life. Seriously, I'm one of those pasty people that can't handle sun. I will be looking for another dermatologist. If you have any sort of issues with your skin you might want to find a more interested and thorough doctor. read more

I am very glad I found Dr. Aria's practice. In one visit, she was comprehensive and thorough to address my skin concerns. I came in primarily to address getting a cyst removed and also discuss more general dermatological concerns/issues. I was surprised to learn I could've had it removed during my visit, though I decided to wait since I wasn't prepared to do it that day. Either way, she and her staff made me very comfortable with the whole process. She addressed my other concerns in detail, providing recommendations and really listening to what I was saying without pressuring me to pursue a particular option. I have always liked being seen by Dr. Aria but today her office staff left me with a horrible feeling. I waited six weeks for the appointment that I had this morning, I got two confirmation calls for the appointment, and when I got there this morning they said they no longer participate with my insurance plan. The woman at the front desk told me that she knows my insurance plan is still listed on their website but they haven't been able to change that yet. She also said I could be seen and pay out-of-pocket, but that she wasn't able to give me a receipt that I would be able to submit to insurance. I have never heard of a doctors office that is unable to print a receipt that a patient can submit to their insurance when they are being seen out of network. The office staff was rude, consistently asking me to step away from the window in case new patients came in where there were none. When I asked for a copy of my records the office staff gave me a form to fill out that was outdated and in accurate. When I asked about following procedures on this form another woman behind the desk said "oh sorry, our form is out of date". Too bad, I liked Dr. Aria. read more

Found this provider by way of Yelp. The 4-star rating was about right. Called them up to find out if they were taking new patients and how soon an appointment could be had. They got me scheduled in less than 2 weeks from my call-in date. Was a bit surprised to find out that they don't take credit cards for co-pays - only cash or checks. Who the heck uses checks any more?? Arrived at the office a few minutes before my scheduled appointment. Would have gotten there sooner to fill out the obligatory "new patient" paperwork, but there was construction equipment blocking the entry way into the complex. Receptionist handed me the new patient paperwork. Really wish they were like some of the other practitioners around here and let you take care of it online before your visit, but, "whatevs". Wasn't terribly surprised, given the previous note about co-pay payment methods. When I was done with my paperwork, I handed it in and took care of the co-pay. All I had were the yuppy food-stamps the ATM gave me. Being early in the day, they didn't have the $10 change. I was informed that I'd get the change before I left. Err... I really don't like cash and things like this make me wonder "WTF". But, I did get my change, so, all's good, if a bit weird on the payment front. With a total waiting room time of about 35 minutes after my scheduled appointment start, I was let into the examining/treatment room. Dr's assistant did a quick interview. Doctor came in about five minutes later. She did a quick assessment and proceeded to do the procedure I'd come in for. She has a good, too the point (but not curt or brusque) professional manner. She was quick and skillful with the administration of the anesthetics and the removals were done before I would have even thought the anesthetics would have had the chance to work. Got dressed and paid for the procedure and rolled out. All in all, less than an hour from the time I walked through the door. If I have need of similar services, I'd not hesitate about going back. Note on getting there: When using Google maps to find this place, it doesn't really quite tell you how tucked-away the office is. When you reach the point where your GPS says to turn in, head ALL the way to the rear-most set of offices, then turn left. read more

I was referred to Dr. Aria by a current patient of hers who recommended her highly. Their website says one of the medical services they provide is "Skin Cancer Exam for basal cell, squamous cell and melanoma." They're listed in my insurance directory as accepting new patients. When I called, they said they're no longer accepting new patients for things like skin checks. When I asked what they were accepting new patients for, they said "things like if you have a rash you need to get checked out." So I confirmed "but not for basic preventive care to catch cancer?" They said "no." So, perhaps she's a wonderful provider but I wouldn't know. read more

As a military family, to be told that they do NOT process TRICARE Supplement only after being seen, is extremely unprofessional. And then to be told it will take them 2 weeks to provide the required information for you to file a manual claim with the supplement insurance, such as an itemized bill is unacceptable. Then the practice buries in the paperwork that they only accept CASH or CHECK to pay the copay is also UNPROFESSIONAL. I saw Dr Aria several times a few years back, then had a hard time getting in to see her for a follow up (restricted office hours) so I tried someone else. I was not happy with them, so I came back. The first few times I saw her the wait time in the waiting room was a lot longer (20 minutes or so), but my visit today I had little to no wait time. She spent a lot of time with me and reviewed the topical meds I've used in the past and what I'm using currently to see what has been the most effective treatment for my acne. She prescribed some meds and also gave me samples (which she has always done). Overall I think she is great, my biggest complaint would be her office hours. With regards to her line of face washes, eye creams, etc., they really are high quality products. I couldn't find anything with the same quality ingredients over the counter, and the other dermatologist that I saw briefly actually recommended I keep using her stuff haha. I'm sure other dermatologists may offer the same kind of washes, but I don't think you'll find the same good stuff that she has at Sephora or CVS read more

I later phoned with some questions about the prescription (I wanted a non-steroid lotion option) and the Physician Assistant was super helpful. She called back twice and provided an option and an updated recommendation - which clearly meant she read my chart and conferred with Dr. A. Everyone I dealt with was very pleasant and their response to my questions was exactly what I want from a medical office. Physically - the waiting room and exam rooms are a bit dated. I'm lazy about writing reviews but feel compelled in this case. Dr. Aria failed to help me with 2 separate conditions by not telling me all the options I had to treat them. For the first condition, she said that there's only an ointment or antibiotics and I can't take either while pregnant or breastfeeding. I pushed and asked if there was anything else I could do to treat it because I had just become pregnant so I wouldn't be able to treat it for over a year and I didn't want scarring. She had no suggestions. I went to Google and found forums that had all sorts of suggestions. Aloe ended up doing wonders to minimize the flare ups and therefore scarring. So I found that answer on my own. For the second condition, she said it's genetic and there's nothing I can do. I was so depressed because it's very painful. I found out from another doctor that there are antibiotics as a first step and surgery as a second step. My case is so severe that I'm going to have the surgery which is a HUGE relief because I've suffered with this for years. I'm so excited to find out there's something I can do about it! Dr Aria is a basic dermatologist. My husband and I have both seen her for skin checks. I was concerned with a clogged pore on the side of my face that started to grow larger and I couldn't extract myself. Dr Aria barely looked at my skin and told me that the pore would need to be opened by a plastic surgeon. This seemed extreme and she didn't provide a referral, so I felt like she didn't help address my concern. When I went to see Sandra from Medi-Aesthetique Spa at the National Center for Plastic Surgery, she easily opened the pore with a thin needle-like tool and extracted with her hands. Sandra did this for free while I was there getting a laser treatment. Her office is also outdated. They should invest some money in making the space a little nicer. read more

I have not seen Dr. Aria and can't evaluate her as a doctor. However, her staff wasted a lot of my time. I showed up at the time we had agreed upon over the phone, only to be told my appointment was actually four weeks later. That was not the appointment I had made, and if they had said that date over the phone, then I would not have made the appointment at all. I know simple mistakes can happen, but I can't stand having my time wasted, and the staff did not acknowledge, or apologize for, the mistake. Unfortunately, we were referred to this office by our primary care doctor and when I recently got a new job I made sure that I picked the insurance that this practice accepted. My son waited in the waiting room with an emergency condition while I tried to confirm the policy number since the insurance office didn't open for an hour after his appointment. But the doctor refused to see him until he had that number. He called me crying from his car when they told him he would be considered self pay and that he should just go to some walk in clinic instead. Since this doctor feels that her practice is actually her bedroom and she is just going to create a clique of patients that possibly don't even have real problems, please look elsewhere for someone who actually wants to provide medical care. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Aria's for six years. I've always found Dr. Aria to be curt, but also sharp, professional, and good at her job. I called today to schedule my annual skin cancer exam with her. The gruff answer from the receptionist was that she was no longer doing cancer screening exams for her patients. I asked if, with this new policy, Dr. Aria offered any recommendations for other dermatologists who might deign to give me an exam. The answer was no, and "just call around." I have a LOT of funky spots & moles all over my body, and I have always considered a skin cancer exam a critical part of my medical care strategy. Too bad Dr. Aria doesn't feel the same way. I think maybe she's no longer a real dermatologist: just an expensive cosmetologist hawking expensive snake oil. My advice: if you seek a dedicated, caring physician for your medical dermatological needs, look elsewhere. read more

They wouldn't let me take an appointment because, they said, my insurance wouldn't cover for it. They said the problem was related to something missing in the drawing of the suitcase at the bottom of my insurance card. I have Carefirst BCBS and I called them to verify: they called dr Aria's office and then got back to me. The lady from the insurance company was outraged: she said my card is not supposed to have anything written inside that drawing, the office is totally making that up, and suggested to contact another provider because at Dr Aria's they were not accommodating at all about this. read more

I also am a big fan of Dr. Aria's nurse (although I cannot remember her name). But the gist is this: Dr. Aria spends a lot of individual time with her patients. 5 stars hands down. Dr. Aria is knowledgable, quick, friendly, efficient and cost-effective. I came here after my mom booked me for an appointment while I was briefly home in Alexandria. I thought, while I was there, that my parents were previous patients but in fact they were not. My mom actually found this office randomly, called to see if there were any free appointments and they had an opening (which I heard is rare so I'm lucky). I've dealt with hormonal acne for at least ten years and tried everything. It gets really tiring when you're in your mid 20s and still having problems with your skin for reasons you can't control. As a fair skinned person it shows a lot more on my skin than normal tan people too. I have not had the best experience with dermatologists in the past. I had a mole removed by one doctor a few years ago and he actually cut open the wrong spot and left a huge scar on my face (thank god for makeup). Anyways, Dr. Aria obviously DOES know what she is doing. After a quick consult she recommended a routine of a mild wash, Differin cream and a cycle of antibiotics. She took into account my sensitive and dry skin and found the right products for me. Because I don't currently have insurance and paid out of pocket she provided me with samples to help with the cost. Awesome! Every bit helps when you're broke so not having to worry about being able to afford presciptions for now was wonderful. I really hope this combination of treatments works for me... I have high hopes for once. As for the office I think Dr. Aria deserves 5 stars for sure. It's nice to have someone take into account my problem and my finances when they aren't obligated but want to help. Her assistant was wonderful as well and I had no problem with the office staff. Today I called to make an appointment and the woman who answered the phone was making what should have been a simple process very difficult. Rather than welcoming me back, she treated me like they were not interested in my business. She was not helpful at all. If I have to get through someone like that to see Dr. Aria, it's not worth the trouble. I will find a new dermatologist. read more

I went to see Dr. Aria re. a spot on top of my head. She confirmed that it was pre-cancerous skin cancer and removed it, using a liquid nitrogen spray. Further, she then checked me thoroughly (arms, back, chest.....) for any further suspicious spots or moles.
