I just recently had my second nano knee with Dr Ferro. I've been happy with the care there and can highly recommend both Dr Ferro and this procedure. His PA, Janika, has been easy to get a hold of and answers my myriad of questions. There was a little bit of confusion, pre-op with some communication with the office staff but nothing earth shattering. Dr Ferro's post-op includes both nursing & PT home visits the first 2 weeks following surgery. His PT recommendations are different than most other doctors & includes daily, gentle stretching exercises rather than strenuous PT maneuvers at a facility (as a veteran of multiple knee surgeries over the decades I can attest to the difference in the PT experience). There is also a $8500 charge for the computerized precision cuts that will be made during surgery that is not covered by insurance. I would highly recommend that anyone investigate the nano knee before undergoing a knee replacement. Tip - invest in an post-op ice machine, it's a game changer. read more

This review is for the Arroyo Grande, CA office of Dr. Thomas Ferro. One day this September 2025, at different points during the day, I had the worst experience I have had with a professional (and I hesitate to call this office professional) office in my 78 years long life. That first contact I had with this office--I was kept on hold for 15min for a simple question. Then later in the day, at the time I had had scheduled for over a month, I was told that my appointment with Dr. Ferro was minutes away, and then waited 1.5 hours from my scheduled appointment time, and still Dr. Ferro was "talking to other patients". The receptionist handled my at least 5 calls to this office, incompetently. I asked to speak to the office manager, and after telling her of the ordeal I had been through that day with the receptionist, was told to "give her a break she was in high school, and new". Also, the $8500 you pay here, out of pocket, to cover the Kinematic Knee Alignment, is included as part of your Medicare/secondary Insurance billing with 3 doctors that I have seen recently, who do this kinematic knee replacement procedure--Dr. Stephen Howell and Dr. Alexander Nedopil, Lodi, CA; and, Dr. Robert Caravelli, Napa, CA. This institute advertises that they have an Inland Empire Surgeon. Dr. Eli Ahdoot does have an office in Rancho Cucamonga but is only there once per month. All surgeries are in Burbank, Glendale, or Marina Del Rey. He is not an Inland Empire surgeon so be prepared to travel. He is a very good surgeon but Nanoknee makes it seem like he does procedures in the Inland Empire. This is not true. read more

So far,...WOW. I clicked on request a consult from their website. Within 2 hours they called to set up a consult. And, they had an appointment at my preferred office location within a week. Impressive! The scheduler asked for a copy of my CDL, and Insurance card before committing to an appointment time. He did explain that my insurance will cover the initial consultation and the actual surgery. It will NOT cover the 3D imaging that they do that helps them plan your surgery. It will cost an average of $8k, but it will be charged ONLY if they accept you as a surgery candidate and you accept their proposed treatment plan. I'll update once I have my consult. I had my left knee replaced in January 2024, my right knee replaced in May 2024 and I'm scheduled for my left hip replacement in August 2024. I did a lot of research before consulting with Dr. Ferro of NanoKnee. I had very severe bone on bone arthritis in both knees and walking was excruciatingly painful. I had been suffering for years because I was terrified of this major surgery. Dr. Ferro was so kind, so compassionate and patient with me. He explained, in great detail, the surgery and what I could expect during recovery. I was thrilled that the procedure is outpatient and under light anesthesia. My experience has exceeded my expectations. I was walking right after surgery, and the pain I had experienced for years was gone! I did not need to use the narcotic pain killer prescribed, and within a week I did not need any assistive walking devices. I recommend Dr. Ferro and NanoKnee, Arroyo Grande, CA, whole heartedly. Although I felt the surgeon was knowledgeable, I did not receive the full explanation to convince me that nanoknee would be indeed, a faster recovery. Both nanoknee and robotic assisted surgeon told me that to return to pickleball would be a 3-4 month time frame. For the $8500, I opted to NOT do nanoknee, afterall, the body requires time to heal and again, I was NOT convinced nanoknee would come with a faster healing ~! read more

A co-worker introduced me to the procedure....Nano Knee? Wow! What is it? Could it possibly help me? Would I be a good candidate? Hoping so, as I couldn't get any help from Orthopaedics and Drs that I had seen for my knee issues for the past 4 years!! They told me that I needed to lose weight and or just quit my job because i had to be on my feet 10 hrs per day. NOT AN OPTION!! For the past several years I have been dealing with osteoarthritis knee pain at a fairly young age. Finally, I decided it was time to do something. After months and months of research I finally determined that the NanoKnee Institute was the way to go. I am so glad that I chose NanoKnee to replace my right knee. My surgery was eight days ago and I am rehabbing phenomenally. I only took one pain pill since surgery and have no plans to take anymore. This is unheard of for a knee replacement but common for the NanoKnee replacement. The only pain I have now is the soreness from the surgery itself and from doing my daily stretching exercises. I am starting a new job in 2 1/2 weeks and the only way that is possible is because I had the NanoKnee procedure versus a traditional knee replacement. I can't understand why traditional knee replacements are even still being done when this option is available. After months of trying to decide if I should have a consultation with NANOKNEE, AND after being told they take my insurance AND my insurance WILL pay for the $7,500.00 PER KNEE, I decided to go in and talk with them. Today, I walked 2 miles...pain free. And...Today marked only 2 weeks after the Nanoknee surgery to replace my left knee. I was up and walking 2 hours after the surgery and I have yet to experience any real pain and have used nothing stronger than Tylenol for a few dull aches. I ride my spin exercycle daily and follow the outpatient self-guided rehab exercise program. I am 75 years old and feel like I have been given a gift of a new lease on life. He is also a kind and thoughtful physician who guided me through this process with his calm, friendly and positive clinical manner. First, let me say I wish I could give them a 5, but the system of getting through to them and getting this done is messed up. I did not get the hip replacement I desired from them. Second, Dr. Ferro seems to be both personable and helpful. These things said, they wasted over a month of my life when I could have worked on getting the much needed replacement done through another surgeon in that time. What happened? Well, everything looked good. I spoke with Cami, the first person you work through. I have Blue Shield PPO, and the hospital they usually use does not take it, but she said they can use another hospital. Okay, sounds good. I cleared the first hurdle. Then I have my Telehealth video appointment with Dr. Ferro, and all goes very well. We discuss the same issue of the health insurance, and he says he will try to cut down the out of pocket expenses for me. He also says I just need to pick a day. AWESOME! His surgery coordinator is supposed to get in touch with me, but after a few days, I contact them, and then nothing... I left two messages with the surgery coordinator, and no response. No doubt I bugged Cami, but she was the only contact person I had, so that's where I went. Now it's been almost three weeks since my telehealth appointment, and I need the surgery ASAP. Today I finally got the call from the surgery coordinator, and she bluntly said that the hospital doesn't take Blue Shield, so they won't do the surgery. Game, set, match. The failures of communication are why they get 1 star. If they would have said, "Hey, we don't take Blue Shield, sorry..." I would have moved on immediately. It would be sad, but I'm a grown up and can take it, and likely I would be getting my hip replaced in two weeks with a different surgeon. Instead I am now waiting another painful month or more to get this done. Honestly, this is where I wanted to get it done. Everything I heard was great. I flew out to help my Dad with his knee replacement and was honestly dreading the whole experience. I felt compelled to write this review because we had such a great experience. Dr Ferro was very patient and helpful by answering a ton of questions and putting us both at ease. It was incredible to have outpatient surgery and avoid a big production at a hospital with an overnight stay. Most importantly, he was right up and walking so much sooner than I thought possible! He's an active guy and a few months out he's back to his active lifestyle. About 15 years ago, I was diagnosed with a severe case of osteoarthritis in both my knees, but I was reluctant to get knee replacement surgery. I had read and heard about the lengthy and painful recovery process and was not ready endure the procedure.
