My wife and I took the Blue Book Tour with Heather and Delrose and it was absolutely amazing!! It was our first trip to Nantucket and my wife Judy is a huge Elin Hilderbrand fan. I planned it because of how much she enjoyed Elin's books, andI have never read a book but Heather made the tour absolutely wonderful with all the facts and stories about the books and the island. In addition it was just fabulous seeing so much of the island in such a relatively short time. Additionally, DelRose was an amazing driver on the tight streets and navigating the bus like a small car, and she as well added stories which was so informative. I loved the Chicken Box stop because I wanted to go there, without knowing about the books and it didn't disappoint at all!! It truly highlighted the beauty of Nantucket. We met another couple celebrating their 25th anniversary and it was just so neat to see how much it meant to Elin's fans. Heather made this tour very personal and you could truly feel her and Elin's passion about Nantucket. I would highly recommend this tour, you will not e disappointed!!!! Very disapointing. To start they are very disorganized. You have to go to the office to 'check in'. Why they don't just have you check in with the bus driver like literally every other bus tour I've been on, I don't know, but that's there policy, and so be it. Anyway, I go to the office and there is literally nobody there. As I'm waiting another person from the same tour I'm going to be on comes in. We both end up waiting another 5 minutes before someone shows up. We are then walked to the bus, 5 minutes later than are scheduled start time (although we did go about 20 minutes past are scheduled end time, which almost made someone be late for the ferry). Delaraose was out tour guide. And don't get me wrong, she's nice and full of energy, Ibut just didn't like her style. It was along the lines of "There are 3 cemeteries in Nantucket and 1 Elementary school...." and then a couple minutes asking questions about what she just said and expecting everyone to shout back the answer, over and over. It just got annoying after a couple times. The rest of the group seemed into it though. So mileage may vary. The overall point remains though that the company as a whole is disoragnized and not worth it. read more

We took the Island Tour with bus driver Della Rose. She made the ride entertaining and full of historical information. It was a very windy day but she had us singing and "Under the Boardwalk" and it was really fun! The bus was comfortable and clean. Easy to book in person by the Hy-Line and a 2 min walk to bus. Really enjoyable way to see the island. The tours are given in buses that are about half the size of school buses--that provides a nice intimate experience. The driver is also the tour guide and has lived on the island for over 30 years, so he brought a lot of local flavor to the experience. We paid $30/person for a 75 minute tour and got our money's worth. read more

Enjoyed this tour yesterday on (I presume) one of its last runs of the season. A touch too long at 75 minutes, but informative, and a good opportunity to see a wide range of the island when traveling on foot. Seems to follow a standard round town and then out to Siasconset route. I felt the 'Sconset segment could have been condensed, though it was intriguing to see that distinctly different area of the island for the first time. Some historical details, such as the whaling era, were primarily verbally referenced, and it might benefit the traveler to have more context to see them or a more immediate connection such as a discount admission to the Whaling Museum. Nonetheless, after only two prior visits to Nantucket, both on foot, I'm glad I used this time and resources to see more of the island in this tour bus way. Pleasingly informal overall; not too large scale or industrial size ambitions with this tour. read more

I gave it one star because the tour guide, although a bit difficult to understand with her accent was informative. DONT ALLOW DOGS on the bus if you want your patrons to enjoy the tour!!!! My God, dog walking freely on the bus shaking hair and water on us!!!! It kept jumping from seat to seat and it was horrible! The air conditioning unit in the back of the bus was sooo incredibly loud that people who have heating issues in no way could hear or understand the guide. Such A DISAPPOINTMENT! lol read more

My daughter and I took this tour of Nantucket Island and had Del Rose as our tour guide. She was really knowledgeable and took her time showing us the various different areas of the island. The tour was a good pace, and while I wish we had the opportunity to see more of the island and coastline in Siasconset, it was rather foggy and you couldn't see much of the coast! Nonetheless, Del Rose made sure to still tell us about the different parts of island and I didn't feel like we missed anything despite the foggy weather. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Nantucket for the first time. read more

I'm giving this 1-star primarily due to the bus driver. We got onto the bus and she scolded an older woman behind me for not wearing her face mask. The women said she would put it on, but the bus driver wouldn't let it go and told her she needed to have it on before boarding the bus. It was a hot day, and they had AC, but 4 of us in our group were sitting in the back of the bus where the AC didn't reach us very well. The AC unit was right above us and the vents were easily able to move. My wife was pregnant and was uncomfortably warm, so her brother stood up and gently move one of the side vents that was blowing down on us in her direction. The bus driver got really upset and told him not to touch the AC unit and she continued to scold him in front of all the passengers on the bus. When he explained what he was doing and why, she just double downed and looped in her boss. Her boss seemed to think it was a fun time, took note and and we were on our way. You could tell everyone was uncomfortable with how she reacted. Needless to say, it was terrible customer service. She could have been much more kind and it didn't have to turn into a big deal at all. She must have known a bad review was coming because she hesitated to give us her name when we asked, she said it was Regina, but after doing a bit of research I think she was Wendy. She kept saying she was an 8th generation Nantucket native, and from other reviews it sounds like Wendy was saying similar things and that other people had similar negative experiences with her. The tour overall was cool to see the island. The company does a terrible job at treating their customers though. read more

We were very very disappointed with our experience with Kathy Wiggins at this tour company. We bought tickets at the Hi-Line, walked up 5 minutes early to find that Kathy had left not 2, BUT 6 people behind. Extremely disappointing. We paid good money for the tickets and she had left us all behind. DO NOT buy tickets for this company, all Kathy Wiggins' fault. Sorry Kathy Wiggins. read more

I was irritated from the very beginning because there is no signage or instructions or workers telling you where to line up for the bus. Zero organization. People were following busses around in a small cobblestone area trying to get on without any clear direction of which bus to get on and where to line up. Similar to seeing animals follow around a farmer with a bucket of feed in a pen. Also, the bus sounded like an ancient wooden ship that creaked so loudly that we could not hear anything over the intercom as the tour proceeded. People might give the driver/ tour guide a hard time but he did the best he could with crappy resources. read more

Paid $40 dollars for Nantucket Island Tour and found none of the buses had working air conditioning with an outside temp. Near 90 degrees. There was no air movement on the bus and plenty of elderly people really suffering. The tour was horribly boring and not worth the money. Save your money and go to the whaling museum instead. read more

We had a terrible experience because the driver, Wendy, turned out to be shameless bigot and the supervisor on duty did not intervene at all because either she did not care or she feels the same way or at the very least she had no courage to stand up to Wendy and her friend Colette. At the end of the trip I had to be very persistent in order to get in touch with some one higher in the chain in order to register a complaint and to have any expectation there was a chance that the issue might be addressed properly and not ignored (it is clear from other reviews here and on other sites that this wasn't the first time Wendy had picked on and mis-treated people of color... she has been mistreating passengers for a while no checks or repercussions). Unfortunately, it is often the people you know and believe to be decent human beings in your experience that turn out to possess the worst kinds of biases when dealing with people belonging to groups they don't like. She did everything she could to prevent us from ever getting on the bus, including loudly and publicly humiliating us by asking the father of a 2 year old baby to promise he will get off the bus if the baby starts crying at all, touching and addressing the baby without permission in an obvious attempt to scare her and make her cry so that she would get a feeble excuse to prevent us from boarding. She even made the parents take away the chicken finger the baby wad eating (as another attempt to make the child cry) even though there were NO signs anywhere stating food was not allowed (there were several signs asking for tips and listing other rules and regulations). read more

Me and my family recently took a bus tour from Nantucket Island Tours. The tour operates out of the Hy-Line Ferry office, and you can book the tour and ferry together, leading us to believe they are probably the same company. There are several tours offered throughout the day, and more than one bus per tour. The tour guide we had was pleasant and very knowledgeable about the island. He provided us with a lot of interesting information, but many of the sights along the tour however aren't particularly interesting -- like BOTH Stop and Shop's on the island, one of the 4 gas stations on the island, and the only car dealership on the island. We also drove through the parking lot of a musuem to see the old head of a lighthouse they had out front! He pointed out many historical sites as we drove by, rarely slowinig down or stopping to look. We did stop a couple of times, either for him to finish telling us about the site we just passed or are about to pass, or to let traffic by. We were allowed to get out of the bus for photos only once, and that was to take pictures of a lighthouse. But we were stopped on the side of the road, next to a golf course, with the lighthouse in the background. If you want to take photos of anything along the way then be prepared to take them through the bus windows. The bus itself was dated looking, inside and out. By quick count it appears the buses hold about 25 people. There was air conditioning on the bus, and tiny windows that open, but the seats weren't super comfortable and the audio kept cutting out as the driver spoke. Overall I'd say the tour was informational, and a quick way to see the island, but no personal focus. read more

I cannot even understand why on earth there is a single poor review of this bus tour!!! First time in nantucket, after eating a big lunch, needed a little break from walking around, but didnt want to waste our time on the island napping:) since we didn't bring our car to the island, we thought the bus tour would be a great way to see the island and take a little break from walking. IT WAS FANTASTIC!!!!! I learned so much about nantucket, and saw parts of the island i wouldnt have seen on foot. Wendy, our tour guide was one of the highlights of our trip. My husband enjoyed her so much he had to give her a big hug as we thanked her and exited the bus!!! Thank you wendy!! Eff those people who posted poor reviews because if you dont like this tour, then theres probably few things in life that you actually do enjoy. Thanks again wendy!
