This shop looks for and performs unnecessary service work to pad its bill. It is unlawful under the Auto Repairs Deceptive Practices Regulations and the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act for an automotive repair shop to do any of the following: 1. Start work without first having received a signed written authorization from the consumer which clearly states the nature of the repair and the odometer reading of the vehicle. 2. Start work without first giving the consumer a written estimate. If Platt's Performance Plus violates the Auto Repairs Deceptive Practices Regulations or overcharges for a repair, you can file a complaint with NJ Division of Consumer Affairs, 124 Halsey Street, Newark, NJ 07102. These guys tried to scam me into paying them to fix something that was never an issue to begin with. Would not recommend going to them especially if you wanna leave with your car in one piece and not multiple damages. also not to mention multiple stains left on my seats and roof. Coincidentally, I had an issue with my vehicle which was disabled on my driveway and told him about the problem. He related that he would be happy to look at it. After making the necessary arrangements, he was able to repair what I thought would be a real problem and had it back to me in less than 24 hours, for a fair price. I always seek out family run establishments as I have found that they tend to value their customers…read moremore so than the corporate shops. There is an exception to every rule. First visit, front wiper arm needed to be replaced. She said they normally replace the wiper blade. As they were only 3 months old, I declined. She asked 2 more times to replace the wiper blade making me feel pressured. Red flag 1 Car went in for service. The report they provided said air filter status unknown. There are 4 screws that hold the cover in place. The manager told me they only check the air filter if they are quick release fasteners. Basically, if they aren't sure if they can charge you for the filter they won't take the time to unscrew the cover. Red Flag 2. Took car in for oil change and tire rotation. They told me the rear wiper wasn't working. Odd as it was working the day before in the rain. Since I have an extended service warranty, I had them check to see if it was covered. It was only if the motor was bad. They told me that they would have to trouble shoot it and I would be responsible for the cost. Unless it turned out to be the motor. I asked if they checked the fuse. Service writer didn't even look at me nor acknowledged my question. Why should they see if it's the fuse when they play dumb and get paid for trouble shooting. Checked the rear wiper when they brought the car out and it was working just fine. During this same visit I was told the rear links are going bad. Insurance would pay but because the insurance would only pay a certain amount for the links, I would owe more than $100. I asked about aftermarket parts. She said they were more than the dealership. I found them online for what the insurance would pay for. After the prior red flags, I wonder if the links are in need of replacement. 3rd and final Red Flag. I canceled the appointment to have them replaced. Had the trans fluid changed along with the brake fluid not too long ago. Now I'm wondering if they did it? It's sad that Pro-Cat feels they need to do business in this manor. How did they stayed in business 35 years??

They might not be as big as Aberdeen, but these guys know good customer relations. Always help me find exactly where the car I'm looking for is, and don't sweat the small things. Last time I went there looking for a throttle body, couldn't find a match but did get a radiator cap that worked. I was gonna offer them, say $5, but he just said "it's yours". That's good customer relations - giving the customers a break here and there to focus on the human aspect of the business. Pulled a cylinder head here once and they happily accepted my offer for it, well below the quoted price of most places. Don't hassle you and the place has a nice big parking lot so you'll never find yourself SOL - unlike Aberdeen. All in all, I give these guys my business any day of the week.
