Downtown Napa is on the smaller side, but it makes up for its size with plenty of charm and personality. The area is sprinkled with cute, bougie little shops--think artisanal jams, boutique goods, and cozy wine lounges that practically invite you to slow down and sip something delicious. There are also plenty of upscale restaurants that give the whole area a polished, elevated feel. We visited on New Year's Day, so a lot of the businesses were closed, which added this slightly gloomy but still strangely enchanting vibe. Even with the quiet streets, the town had a peaceful charm that made wandering around enjoyable. The Napa River Walk is especially lovely--perfect for a slow stroll with scenic views and fresh air. Along the way, we spotted murals that beautifully represent the city's culture and creativity, adding pops of color and personality to the downtown area. Parking was easy to find, with public lots available around First and Main Street. The signage can be a bit narrow and easy to miss, but once you figure it out, it's pretty convenient. Even though we came on a quiet holiday, Downtown Napa still left a great impression. We're definitely planning to come back when everything is open so we can experience the full energy of the area. read more

Quality/Quantity - We took a fairly long break from Napa, but we are BACK. So follow along. Do you still have the self walking tour? Of all the sculptures? I noticed you also moved your visitor center. We come here for the views, wine, and food. But mostly to host guests. Atmosphere - Known for their wine region. We used to also frequent their sounding cities - Yountville, Oakville (one of my favorite wine regions), St. Helena & Calistoga (my wife spas here), Sonoma, etc. 139k population. Almost 800 sq miles. Service - Tourist destination, so as long as you have $$, great service. LOL. Just kidding. Price - Expensive. But a nice treat. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1850. With all the urban wineries popping up, it gets harder and harder for us to make these trips. Plus we also have the Livermore wineries that we belong to. read more

Our last day in Napa so we chose to Uber downtown. Sadly the weather is very overcast and a little chilly We had the best breakfast ever at a saloon. We've been at a very nice Resort where we found most of the food lacking. So this very non fancy was the absolute best We're just walking around looking at the sights. But I've aged out of walking all day. Oh well, I guess we'll stop for a wine tasting Then hopefully back up to the commons to get something for our late night snack That is if we don't manage to stay in town til dinner time There's nothing on the property we're staying at that we might look forward to eating So enjoy the photos of Downtown Napa read more

Downtown Napa, basically, 1st Street.  6-8 small blocks filled with restaurants, wine tasting rooms, and cute shops with a small town feel. Holidays have small town parades and/or festivals, so adorable. It's for romantics! When I was in college, I remember seeing signs around San Jose that read, "San Jose is growing up." This was around the area where the Sharks arena is located. And yes, San Jose has grown up quite a bit. You can say the same about downtown Napa. I went here in 2015-16 for a visit and it was fine. There wasn't much to see. There were some stores and mostly restaurants and there weren't tons of people. I was able to find some parking rather easily. I wanted to come back at sometime, but it wasn't a destination spot. But that has changed because this place has grown up. The are more than restaurants and a few cute coffee places. But now they have fancy chocolates (2 places), a winery, bars, cafes, restaurants, book stores and more. I can only imagine the nightlife. My sister and I had a great time walking around and I discovered a lot of newer places. For me, this has become a destination and I will be back. They have a lot more to offer and much more for me to see. read more

There's more restaurants than shops and one section that used to have a lot of stores is still closed off. The river front area is nice and the city usually hosts a series of weekend events starting in the spring. Parking is a challenge so plan accordingly. read more

As part of a silent auction package I purchased, a couple of $25 "Taste" cards were included. The cover of the little card bills it as "Taste Napa Downtown Wine Tasting Card" and goes on to tout: * 12 tasting rooms * 1000s of wines * Initial tastings for only 10 cents at each tasting room * All within walking distance The cards are issued by the Napa Downtown Association and can be purchased on-line and mailed to you. Armed with rolls of dimes, 6 of us headed out for adventure. The fun part of the Taste card is that it gives you an excuse to spend a day hoofing it around downtown Napa. Once you park your car, you really can walk to all the destinations. It feels like a cross between a walking tour, a scavenger hunt, and a bar crawl. We quickly learned that the dimes weren't necessary. It's some sort of legal requirement that they charge for the tastings but none of the places actually want your dimes. Still, always good to throw down a handful for a tip. We also quickly learned that what you get to taste is entirely up to each participating site. Having started our walking tour at the "Napa Tourist Information Center" we were offered tastings of only 2 brands of wine (4 types), both which can be had for under 10 bucks per bottle at Safeway. Yeah, welcome to Napa (not). Although there were 12 participating sites listed on the card, one had permanently closed and one was closed for a private party. We had better luck at the other sites than at the first, though each place limited your selection of tastes and not all offered very delicious selections to cardholders. Over the course of the rest of the afternoon we hit up: * Stonehedge Winery (one of my faves, and they offered bottle discounts to cardholders) * 1313 Main (mostly offered non-local wines to cardholders) * Bounty Hunter Bar & Smokin' BBQ (sit out front and people watch) * Vintage Sweet Shoppe (paired the tasting with chocolate) * Uncorked at Oxbow (nice staff) * Ca'Momi Winery and Enoteca (ate dinner here; waiter let us use the cards while we dined... VERY much appreciated) The card states the days and times in force for each location. If you start early enough, it'd be easy to hit every place on the card and finish up with dinner reservations somewhere downtown. The card doesn't expose you to the best wines Napa has to offer, but it can make for a fun adventure if you set your expectations appropriately. read more

A Patriotic American Vintage town ravaged by fires at the vineyards but recovered well by locals. This is a must if you live or visit California. Bring your credit cards. A smaller than expected downtown area, with a couple boutique shops, casual to fancy restaurants, all in the heart of wine-loving country. It feels like a coastal town thanks to the Napa river, and was a fun walk along the main street after a wine tasting extravaganza. Doesn't quite measure up to the downtown area of more exciting cities, especially in the Bay Area where I'm from, but a quiet, more busy area than most of the vineyards in Napa. read more

Brought my girlfriend to downtown Napa before hitting local wineries since we were already in the area. There's a beautiful riverwalk and there's plenty of places to shop and do some sightseeing. We stopped at a few of the boutique stores and found some cool trinkets to bring home with us to remember the trip. If you head a little more north from the downtown area, you'll pass through all the major vineyards and pick your tours of choice. Many of them have sit down areas where you can bring a picnic and purchase a bottle of wine to drink on premise. Such a beautiful area, we visit friends in the bay area annually, so looking forward to seeing more out in Sonoma this year. Best, Charlie read more

This visit was after the earth quake had hit this town recently. Having been a fan of staying around this area I was expecting a shocking scene on how the downtown would look. Sure enough I was taken aback by the damage this event had done to this beautiful quaint area. There were visible signs of distress with a whole bunch of buildings cordoned off and declared unsafe, some in the midst of being torn down and some abandoned in a heart wrenching manner. But never under estimate the resilience of the American spirit as like a phoenix I saw signs of recovery with some old charming businesses back to routine like nothing had ever happened here. The people oh the people they were welcoming as ever and one felt relaxed and took comfort as they shared their stories on how their business was effected by the quake and their road map to recovery. I would whole heatedly recommend one pay this place a visit as its a better more cozy experience than the regular trips to the wineries. One can walk around and enjoy so many different wines (thanks to the wine tasting card for a mere 30$) and gets to experience the various types of food without being relegated to what is offered at a winery. You get to connect with the locals and get to connect to this area in a much better way IMO. read more

Great area with everything you'd need. If I was a wino, younger and not married... this would be a great place to live. They have some great restaurants and just a cool atmosphere in general. The river that runs through the center of town isn't the best... but I'd imagine its a bit better when they aren't in a few year drought. It's easily walkable and they have some fun artwork scattered around the sidewalks and streets. Not sure of hotels in downtown napa as we stayed away from downtown, but I'm sure there are some cool places to stay. read more

Another event going on! A parade was happening this special Sunday. It seems that everytime we are in town, there is something going on. Napa downtown is nice to come on a Sunday because you can have all day parking versus Saturday (28 minutes to 3 hours). We were able to explore a good amt of the downtown region. Everything is grouped in clusters and everything is within 3-6 blocks from each other. We were able to explore 2 sections of downtown and watch a bit of the parade. read more

This is a great place to stay! It is centrally located and filled with great restaurants and shops.

I stopped by Downtown before making my way up to the wineries. Loved it, because of the European-style buildings and the friendly guides at the Tourist center. There are many restaurants, cafes, and small galleries (+ tasting venues) to visit here, and parking really wasn't an issue for me. Then again, I went on a Monday so it might be different if you're visiting during weekends (especially when the weather gets sunnier). I'd love to go again and explore more of the small shops here. read more
