Love this place! Did the platinum experience which is pricey ($300pp), but lets you taste their best wines with a fabulous food pairing. We loved the 2021 Rainin and 2021 Sacrashe. The venue is also gorgeous - our tasting was in a beautiful room in the cave with a gorgeous chandelier. I liked it even better than the other location in St. Helena. Sadly they couldn't open any of the library wines to taste but we did get to try a few of the other wines outside of the tasting. Highly recommend! read more

Absolutely fantastic experience all the way. If you have a chance to do the Hall Rutherford Platinum tasting experience with tour, do not miss it. Everything is top notch! Collin was fantastic and it felt like he was part of the Hall family (maybe he is!) giving us a tour of the family estate. Even the grapes looked plumper and healthier than the ones down in Napa Valley. The platinum tasting at Hall St Helena is not going to be as fabulous as this so if you're trying to choose between them, do Rutherford. We must've stopped at 10 places in Napa and this one was the best all around (wine/ambiance/education). Must bring a sober driver (me). Very winding mountainous roads with no railings, and the building is so far in the mountains with spotty cell service, the Ubers don't like to come here. You can hire me to be your driver if I can come eat all the food that comes with your tasting! read more

I had such an amazing time at HALL's Rutherford location! I booked an Appellation Experience for 2 people on a Monday afternoon - there were no other guests for the day, so it felt like a private tour. WINE Each of the wines were amazing! My personal favorite was the 2017 Bergfeld Cab. HALL is definitely known for the cabs - and they are GREAT - but I was also pleasantly surprised by the other wines. I loved the WALT Blue Jay Pinot Noir and purchased a bottle to take home! EXPERIENCE The Appellation Experience includes a tour of the property + a tasting that includes a small charcuterie board. It was a great experience and felt super personalized. We could choose to have our tasting at either the chandelier room or outdoors (we chose outdoors because the weather was amazing). VIEWS 10/10! The views while you're on the property + the art in the property itself + the interior = amazing. HOST Trisha (who is mentioned in other reviews too) was an incredible host and wine educator. She is so friendly and truly makes your experience feel personal and special. MONEY THO At about $125/person (with tax), this tasting experience is pricier than most - but worth it! Drawn in by the bunny, let down by the wine & service. Hall is impressively modern, with fun art and great views. While others may have rave about the wine here, I can't...and I can't with the service either. The wine itself was very acidic (cue the Tums) and lackluster compared to the other options in Napa within the price point. What was even more disappointing was the service - behind the bar they were combining open bottles. Not only does this impact taste but it's just gross. With so many other great options in the area, I'd go elsewhere. read more

Spectacular! What a great start being welcomed and greeted with a glass of wine upon entering the room with practically-floor-to-ceiling-windows, while taking in the views from inside and out. The tour was very enjoyable.. I loved the beautiful Swarovski crystals adorning the elegant tasting room, and how the table was already set with 3 glasses of the wines we were tasting, a stemmed glass of water, and a small plate of meat and cheese. Considering this location's elegance, beauty, and lovely wines -- as well as pricey tour-and-tasting cost ($60/guest), we were surprised (and rather disappointed) that our tour guide was admittedly new not only to Hall Rutherford, but very new to wines. Having someone (at least) seemingly more knowledgeable, and more of a veteran, would have seemed more appropriate for this sophisticated establishment. HALL Rutherford was a winery / tasting experience unlike any other! Our wonderful host, Natalie, was extremely knowledgeable of the history of HALL/WALT wineries, and she was such a joy to be around during our early afternoon (exclusive) wine tasting and tour. For context, they only see 15 guests a day at this location! HALL Rutherford is in the hills, exhibiting views across the beautiful Napa Valley. We were given a beautiful tour of the winery (and learned of the improvements and iterations the owners have instilled into their winemaking processes). The Chilean Red (chandelier) was worth all of the hype and we felt so lucky and blessed to be able to experience such a beautiful tour on our trip! To close, we were given Kathryn Hill's book (The Perfect Score) - can't wait to read! In short: HALL Rutherford is a must stop in Napa, and we can't wait to visit the St. Helena room as well. does not have the grand huge lobby or bat cave. What it does have is an excellent guide in Natalie and very informative tour. Literally walking in a museum that serves wines is what my feelings were like. The tree chandelier is just amazing to see. Their platinum collection Bishop, Sacrasche, and Rainin are just bonkers. Extremely private tour and somewhat exclusive due to the steep drive to get to this place. We made the mistake of buying up some of the wines at their St Helena location as the wine and food pairing they served at the Hall Rutherford were the ones we already tried. They share the same mountain as Rutherford Hill which is no slouch of a winery as well as world renowned Auberge du Soleil hotel. This place is an absolute must!!! read more

I am typically not one to write reviews, but I felt compelled after the lovely experience I had at Hall Rutherford on NYE 2023. I've been a member with Hall for several years now, have visited the St. Helena campus a dozen or more times and this was my first time visiting the Rutherford location. Hannah gave a phenomenal tour of the beautifully appointed private estate. Despite having heard 'the spiel' too many times to count, Hannah managed to provide new and interesting nuggets on how Hall churns out some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon that the Napa Valley has to offer. The Cave beneath the main residence is breathtaking and unlike any I've experienced in Napa! At the end of the Cave is a gorgeous library with a collection Hall wines throughout the years. There, we had a phenomenal tasting of some of the most exclusive wines Hall has to offer paired with light bites that served as a perfect complement that only enhanced the tasting experience. Hannah went above and beyond to ensure we had the best possible experience -- including personally calling to make a reservation at the Walt tasting room in Downtown Napa so we could enjoy another glass of wine prior to our dinner reservations that evening. THIS is customer service at its finest, the reason I am a Hall member, and the reason I don't plan on giving up that membership anytime soon. read more

If I could give this place a 10 star rating, just like Liz W. I would!!! Upon arrival, we came to this gate in this random residential area on a hill. We arrived in an Uber (not recommended, keep reading) and they dropped us off at the gate. We had to call Hall for them to let us in. Once inside, we were given a great chardonnay to sip on as we waited for the others. This is an extremely private tour, there is no tasting room or area to just wander around. You MUST make a reservation as they only do tours for 15 people a day. The wine is phenomenal and the tour guide was extremely knowledgeable. Be prepared to be surrounded by wine snobs though! The tour group I was in was filled to the brim with very bougie winos. Walking through the property and into the beautiful tasting room in the hill was absolutely breath taking. Be prepared for some wonderful wines also. This is a pricey experience so I would not recommend for the first time wine drinkers, but I would definitely go back at the drop of a hat... or a drop of kathryn hall wine. read more

We were looking forward to the Artisan Cave and Winery Tour at Hall Rutherford and we were fortunate to be guests of friends who were Hall wine club members. Otherwise, the cost for this winery tour by appointment only is $60. Driving up the long private road, you reach the gates of Hall winery. You call in from the phone box to check-in before the gates open for you to head towards the winery building. Our tour host and wine educator, Mark, greeted and welcomed us to Hall. He provided us a tasting of Sauvignon Blanc and to make ourselves at home. The property has a beautiful interior seating area that looks out into the Valley with the floor to ceiling windows. We then sat in the gorgeous patio area. Mark gave a background of the Hall family and of the winery before we preceded on our tour to the room with the wine tanks with some cool red neon light art pieces. Then we headed into the caves and learned how they were build and that the bricks shipped from Austria. We were offered a barrel tasting of a 2012 Kathryn Hall Cabernet. It was not ready for bottling, but it was sure so delicious already. We then proceeded to the reception tasting room. In the middle of the room was a spectacular chandelier, which resembled an upside down tree that was filled with Swarovski crystals. We had a tasting of "The Corners" Pinot Noir, "Ellie's" Cabernet and "Jack's Masterpiece" Cabernet. Each was paired with a cheese or salumi. Overall, one of the best and memorable wine experiences that I've had in Wine Country. Beautiful artwork from the Hall's personal collection is showcased in the buildings and caves. THE most beautiful tasting room in the valley (probably in any valley). Reservations are hard to come by, the estate is difficult to find, and if I was being honest, the hosts are generally a bit snootier than you would hope. But even with that we've been here several times. And we always try to take our visitors here when they're in town because the wines and the tasting room are that impressive. Let's call it a strong 4.5, rounding up. Generally I wouldn't recommend places where most of the wines cost $100+, but for these wines that's great value. Most of their wines, if properly stored, actually appreciate greatly in value even after a few years- if you can stand not drinking them immediately (I can't). Go and be impressed... read more

We've been lucky enough to visit some excellent vineyards this trip. Hall is, hands down, my favorite. Hall is owned by Katheryn and Craig Hall. Amount other things, She is the former ambassador to Austria. They started in the wine business in the 1970s. The location is lovely. The presentation is lovely. The staff is amazing. But it's the wine that makes this standout it is. Absolutely worth the trip. Bob and Nancy are lovely. If you're lucky, you'll get them as your hosts. This place has great wine. I love Hall Rutherford winery! The wine tour is one of the best. I love their reds but I always end up buying their blancs. They just have a great sense of showing off their knowledge and skill but not over doing it. There really isn't any gimmick it's just clean and classic as well as elegant. The house that the tour starts from is amazing plus they have an outdoor patio to overlook the beautiful view of the valley. The tour lasts about 1.5 hours. They show you the house and a few of the vines. Then they take you down to their high tech barrels. ..well they aren't barrels. Then it's down the beautiful caves made with Italian tiles. You end in the wine cellar with the gorgeous ceiling lamp made from a grape vine root. The tastings are all reds. They are all very very good. They give you a great range of affordable good wine and those special occasion bottles. I've been twice and I would still go back again. Tip: if you own a Lexus you can get the tour for 2 for free. Plan ahead though. read more

Simply stunning. Hall Rutherford is located atop a winding private road where it overlooks Rutherford. It is by appointment only and you have to check in at the intercom in order to get through their gate. It is a gorgeous property that the Halls have created. Majestic views. Eye-catching artwork. Lush green vineyard. Envy is the only emotion you can feel as you begin to explore. Upon entering, we were greeted with a glass of Zinfandel and got to peruse around while waiting for the other attendees to arrive. You can see artwork that have been showcased in New York. Even a picture of the Halls and friends with Bill Clinton can be found, possibly taken during Kathryn Hall's time as US ambassador to Austria. We got to tour the wine cave which was stunning. The bricks of the wine cave were recovered from sites in and around Austria. At the end of the pathway is their Hospitality Room in which the Chilean Red chandelier captures your attention as soon as you enter. Truly amazing! It is adorned with 1500 Swarovski crystals. Everyone sat down and got to sample 3 glasses of red wine, a vintage of the Kathryn Hall, Bergfeld, and Exzellenz. We loved the Bergfeld so much we bought a bottle to take home. I must say Hall Rutherford is not a winery to be missed. The wine and the views will leave you breathless. read more

An amazing winery and wines. Plus the view from the balcony is breathtaking. I scheduled a private tour/tasting at the Hall up in the hills above Rutherford. Was greeted by a friendly hostess and promptly given a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Lovely to the taste. Took some great photos from the balcony showing the entire Napa Valley floor and the hills on the other side. Great scenery. Tour started with a history of the Halls (think real estate developer meets political activist Ambassador to Austria), history of the wine making there, tour of a vineyard, explanation of the wine making process. The estate is filled with modern art and sculptures. Into the cave which is lined with bricks from Austria taken from ruins of old Hapsburg castles. You get the idea. Classy for sure. Ended up in the tunnels and finally in the tasting room. The reds (Merlot and Cabs) are simply amazing. Rich, bold, dark, deep, jammy, fruity, powerful with great finishes. A red wine drinker's paradise. I joined the Club, had some final tastes and bought a case of wine to take home. Hall Winery is a step above most Napa Valley wineries. They have a tasting location on Hwy 29 also. Highly recommended!!! read more

Hubby surprised me with a visit to this spectacular winery off the beaten path. We've been to Napa Valley countless times, but this was our first visit to Hall Rutherford. There's an air of exclusivity to it, when you drive up, with the huge gate. But as soon as you walk in, you are greeted warmly with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and a breathtaking view. The tour ends in their wine cave -- a fascinating story behind the stones shipped from Austria and the craftsmen who built it. All along the tunnel, are niches containing modern art pieces. But the best part awaits at the end of the cave, in their tasting room. The upside down Swarovski crystal tree hanging from the ceiling is GORGEOUS. There are dozens of glasses of wine for tasting lined up along the huge table. It truly is a sight to behold. Once the wine tasting gets underway, the conversation started flowing, and it truly was a magical experience. The tour guide, even toasted us for our 10-year anniversary. The wine is pricey. The 2009 Kathryn Hall Cabernet is $110/bottle. I didn't love the bouquet, but it tasted better than it smelled. But for that price, I expect a winegasm on all fronts. We actually bought a couple bottles of the Darwin Red Blend. There's an unexpected coffee nose to it, and the flavor was fruity and smokey. This was a top-notch winery experience I would definitely recommend to red wine lovers looking for a unique visit. read more

I was at Hall recently, and this place was just amazing! It is a bit difficult to find, but it is more than worth it. You have to have advance reservations also. We had a slight mixup with our reservation, but the Hall staff handled it with aplomb, and we were on our way. The tour starts in a beautiful reception center with stunning views of Napa Valley and an awesome patio. We were given pours of their 2010 sauvignon blanc, which was delicious. We were then given pours of the 2008 cabernet, which was outstanding as well. (We left with some of both.) We walked through the winemaking facility and then among the grapes just a bit as we were told of the Halls' processes and philosophy. Then we entered the cave, which must be seen to be believed. The Halls are avid collectors of art, and the cave (and really, the entire property) is testament to that. My girlfriend's dad is a sculptor who has a piece in the cave, and getting to see his piece in that setting was pretty neat too. At the end of the cave is a dining room with a 30-or-so person table sitting under a truly remarkable chandelier designed after the roots of a grapevine draped in Swarovski crystals.
