Always a great sandwich at Nardelli's! One of my favorites for lunch. They never disappoint.

Refused service - w/o theatrical face diaper
    J D.

Well .... Our relationship has come to an unfortunate unexpected and completely unnecessary end. As a 15 year amazingly satisfied customer and strong advocate of the delicious grinders from Nardelli's - I was formally refused service today as I did not have a theatrical facial diaper on my face. I was told - " I will not serve you without a mask" This individual was 10' from me with a plexiglass shield separating us .. Additionally ... there are customers eating their meals 3' from where I was ordering ... obviously without a mask as they were eating ... So I must order with a mask - can then walk 3' and take it off and eat in complete safety ? I am dumbfounded by their policy? This is their business and they may establish whatever policy they desire ... unfortunately, they have permanently lost a great repeat customer and advocate for their business due to a completely unnecessarily draconian and quite frankly ignorant internal policy. I employ readers of this to utilize their own policies of freedom to spend their important dollars at business which support our freedoms - As I said leaving today .... "Good luck"

Decided to give the "famous" Nardelli's a try. Ordered the whole pastrami grinder and a side of potato salad. $17.51. I had never been there before so I didn't know what to expect. Staff was friendly but not overly helpful. They seemed ok with letting me"guess" my way through my options. The grinder was ok. Not something that I'm going to sneak out of the house for. Infact probably won't get it again. Potato salad was not bad. If you do stop in there check out the items in the case. I never realized that they can be made in to sandwiches. A much better buy. I'm picky but give it a try and make your own decision. It's not bad, not great, just there. But for a real pastrami treat try Lena's in Manchester. That's a pastrami sandwich.

I liked their grinders in the past. Something happened and I won't be returning 1. Masks are worn under noses when employees prepare food 2. Ordered an eggplant and received chicken. Gross 3. Decided to try again and ordered eggplant, umm this is not eggplant. I have no idea what something that resembled the texture of plastic was in the grinder. Worst sandwich EVER. Threw away. I hope the few bites I took don't make me sick. 4 I was ordering when the owner/franchisee was scolding one of the employees in public (on being late). Completely inappropriate to do in public. If I could give zero I would. Several years ago this place was good- the past 1-2 years disgusting.

I was surprised when I enter Nardelli's in East Hartford. The exterior doesn't really draw me in. I honestly thought is would be dumpy or similar to the boring interior of Subway. I have driven by countless times and thought today I should try it! I was pleasantly surprised. It is bright, clean, has deli cases, items on display, friendly staff. Nothing what I was expecting. They even have veggie options. I ordered a tuna grinder. It was ahhhhhh average at best. It could have used something. I am sure you meat eaters out there can find a great sandwich here.

Nardelli's is the place to go if you are hungry but have absolutely no idea what you are hungry for. Let's be real, if you can't find something here that rings your bell or tickles your fancy, you are beyond hope. How about 18 cold grinders in 2 sizes on 4 kinds of bread or 3 kinds of wraps? How about 20 hot grinders with the same options? How about nine hot entrees or appetizers like lasagna or eggplant parm? How about side dishes galore like tortellini, antipasto, plus tuna/seafood/chicken salads. How about nine green salads, with or without meat or fish? How about over 20 desserts from Cannolis to Waffle Rolled Cheesecake? Get the picture? We had lunch on Sunday and both had a half grinder -I had the Prosciutto Hot Pepper Chicken served Panini style with marinara sauce. My wife had the chicken cutlet also with marinara sauce. My sandwich was very good- great flavor, served hot with lots of melted cheese goodness. The line was pretty big, but it moved fast. The service was efficient and very pleasant. The only thing I didn't like had to do with the petite size of the store, and the way the customer line made a U-Turn and snaked back through the dining room. Seriously, we had a line of people standing at the edge of our table as they waited to get to the ordering counter. No bueno. Now look, I'm a "people person" and I can shoot the sh*t with anyone at a moments notice, but I really don't care for people standing at my table and watching me eat from a foot away...

The first visit here and I must say I was a little overwhelmed. I had no idea what I was walking into lol. The multitude of options felt endless which I LOVED! Hearing from friends about Nardelli's I knew I had to check them out but wasn't expecting to see the vast amount of other options. Pasta salads, wraps, specialty salads, soups, signature desserts. I mean who wouldn't want a cheesecake burrito right! The price comparison to other local deli's is higher but for the value of their large menu I wouldn't expect any less. The atmosphere inside was also extremely inviting the staff were more than helpful and polite answering all questions plus giving great recommendations. I plan to return in the future and would recommend.

Nardelli's grinder is probably my favorite in the area. I love a simple turkey grinder with everything (get the hot sauce, just DO IT!) and their seafood salad is incredible too. I recently tried a wrap for the first time and it was so delicious!

Which brings me to my newly crowned favorite sandwich - Tongue On Rye; ask for the tip slices very lean. She doubled over giggling and said thank you for your honesty and THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I've been asked just Tongue with "No Lip." The still tastes good, with some exceptions. The frier oil seemed burnt, so the pickle chips we had just had that little bit of carbon taste on them. The pickle chips batter was very thick, and the mayo was the only respite. The sandwich, still tasty, seemed much smaller than normal, the meat still had good flavor, but the portion was lighter in comparison. The prices are also a bit high. The sandwich coming out to about 15 bucks. The bargain is very much gone now, and the portion is okay for a sandwich but pricy because of this shrinkage. Not shown are the overcooked onion rings. We returned those and the server promptly removed them from the bill. So really good customer service. I opted for a brownie for dessert, and the brownie was a disappointment. Too sugary, no flavor, gummy, and disappointingly small and thin. A detractor for sure. As a deli, it feels like it's on the decline. I know things are pricier now, but what you pay vs what you get doesn't match up. I'm hoping they pivot from this path, but right now it's no longer my go-to. It's still tasty, just pricy

We placed orders for 12 of us over the phone today, we went to pick up the goods around an hour later. I got their Italian Sandwich this time. Previously I've had several of the salads. I think collectively my office has had their entire menu. From sandwiches, to salads, to pizzas, to lasagna and more. Every single meal has always been super fresh, where all you can hear is "mmmmmMmmmms..." My lunch was served on a freshly baked Italian hoagie roll, filled with roasted peppers, ham, tomatoes, mixed greens, capicola and provolone cheese. In addition to each and every single ingredient being super fresh, this was also a very large portion. I could have easily shared the other half with someone else, had it on another day or ate it right after the first portion... which one did I do? Cozy, charming, the kind of place that practically begs you to believe great Italian food is coming. But looks don't season food. From the pasta fagioli to the eggplant parm sandwich, the common thread was impossible to ignore: bland. Not subtly restrained. Not "let the ingredients speak." Just flat. No depth, no punch, no reason to go back for another bite. Italian food should comfort you and excite you at the same time--this did neither. Credit where it's due: portions are generous, and the bread was fresh and nicely toasted, which honestly might have been the most flavorful thing on the table. But when bread becomes the highlight at an Italian spot, that's a problem. I wanted to love Lenoci's. The space sets you up for it. Unfortunately, the food doesn't deliver.

And if your wildest dreams happen to revolve around Italian comfort foods and well stacked sandwiches, well, do I have a place to make those wildest dreams come true for you! La Rosa is your quintessential Italian deli with dozens of grinders, paninis, wraps, salads, soups and a daily hot bar of pasta and chicken entrees. We ordered a grilled Panino Melenzani ($12) with eggplant, tomato, fresh mozzarella, basil and olive oil. It was grilled right in front of our eyes, so it was as fresh as could be. It had plenty of tender sliced eggplant, yummy cheese and fresh tomatoes. I went with my usual, an Italian Combo (half size for $14) stacked a mile high with Ham, Turkey, Genoa, Mortadella, Capicola, and Provolone with lettuce, tomato, onions, and peppers on a fresh loaf of Italian bread. It was superb, and the portion size was so generous that it lasted me for three lunches. As we were paying, we spied some home-made cookies by the register and grabbed an oatmeal and a chocolate chip to take home. Everything ran $32 for a ton of wonderful Italian goodness. We didn't get a chance to check out the hot bar. It wasn't open today because LaRosa's Marketplace was closing early for personal reasons. But I promise you, the next time we visit we'll leave with one of their chicken or pasta entrees. We love our Italian delis, and LaRosa's has immediately shot up into our top tier.
