It pains me to have to write this review. I've been eating at Queen Pizza since I was a kid, almost 40 years. My high-school girlfriend lived directly across the street from the original location and her mother worked there for years. We used to go over there and just hang out with the employees and the original owners, Tony and Helena or we'd stop in for a grinder or a pizza. Over all that time I think I've probably eaten just about everything on the menu. Everything was always delicious and dishes like their lasagna were almost legendary. The inside was what you'd expect for a small restaurant, booths and tables with a menu board on the wall behind the counter and a steady flow of orders going out the door. When they moved down the street there was a bit more attention to the restaurant area, which was nice. Long after high school I stopped in for years, always chatting with Tony and Helena and their son Michael who took over when they retired. Always the same great food with the same great service, until today. For lunch I was after one of my go-to meals there, a gyro sandwich and a side of eggplant fries so I went online and placed my order through slice. Nothing seemed much different from the last time I had ordered so I didn't think anything of it. When I got to the restaurant to pick it up something seemed off. The parking lot was mostly empty and walking up to the door the restaurant seemed a little dark inside. I'd normally expect to see Michael working in the kitchen and say hello but it seemed like they were very slow and there were only a few employees there. I picked up my order without any issue and noticed the packaging seemed different but I didn't think anything of it. When I got it home it was NOTHING like what I had eaten dozens of times before. The gyro was in a flattened pita that was toasted to the point of being crunchy, the strips of meat were very thin, it was overloaded with too much tzatziki (which was runny), very little tomato and these long strips of yellow or white onions (gyros should have diced red onion, not sliced white/yellow). The eggplant fries were equally disappointing, 90% of it was cut in little tiny pieces that were impossible to dip in the marinara, which was the only good thing about this meal. I wondered what had happened until I did a little research only to learn that Michael had sold Queen Pizza last September. While he may have given them the recipes I think they are failing on the execution. Absolutely will not go back for that meal there ever again. I may stop back to try the lasagna but I'm in no rush to at this point. They should have updated the website to indicate that it was under new ownership and I'm not sure they put the same care and attention into the food and Tony, Helena and Michael did. Figured I'd take it on the road. It came with salad ( or soup) and a piece of bread. I thought I was getting a sandwich cuz I only spent$11. I had to chew thru about a quarter pound of cheesey goodness to get to 2 decent sized chicken pieces and another half pound of spaghetti. The place was clean. The food was tasty. There's a group of about 35 of us working in the area, so we looked around to find a pizza place and decided on Queen Pizza. Interesting that the size options are small, medium, and extra large. We got a few large cheese, as well as a large meat lovers and large buffalo chicken. The meat lovers had a plethora of meat that I could see, but was not my pizza of choice. I opted for the buffalo chicken. I love that it wasn't too spicy and the breading on the chicken wasn't overly done. I asked for a side of ranch, which was probably my favorite part of our togo order. The large cheese pizzas were standard. So while good, nothing was mind-blowing or stood out in any way. Came in and told the waitress I was dining in .the waitress said have a seat I will be over , there were 3 waitresses working and none cared to come over and take my order.they served everyone in the front area and didn't care to come over and take my order. I ordered "The Special" which had a couple of Parmesan choices and soup or salad. I ordered the chicken Parmesan which came with a salad and Italian bread. The salad had iceberg lettuce, onion and tomatoes and a red wine vinegar and olive oil dressing. The bread was absolutely wonderful - size of a hoagie and really soft except for a light crispy layer and it came with butter. I have been going to Queen Pizza for years but at this point it is time to move on. There is a new owner and he was quite rude to me on my last visit. I questioned him about the price because a week prior it was different and he said "I don't care what you paid last time". I was truly offended and told him that at this point I could just walk out and not take their food. If you want to be treated poorly then by all means under the new ownership Queen Pizza is the place to go. read more

It is a big shame I must give this business such a poor review. I have been visiting this establishment since the early 90s and I notice in recent times things have really gone down hill here. The ingredients of the pizza changed in taste and quality and became much less than they used to be. It was my favorite spot but I cannot claim this anymore. Came here to kill some time. Was happy to find a spot on this road that serves alcohol and some pretty basic but fulfilling appetizers. Mozzarella sticks were just what we needed. Definitely a family joint with regular clientele. I'd come back to try the great-smelling pizza. read more

Queen Pizza did not disappoint! Which makes them a gem especially during these trying times that we're all facing. They've remained open this whole time during COVID-19 & have accommodated a curbside area for pickup.The overall pickup was a little long due to the line of multiple cars but hey what can you expect when the food is that good. I regret the years I've always just driven by and never stopped but since then I would surely recommend them. This is my go to for pizza now, tried alot of pizza places in east Hartford and this is best so far. Crispy and extra large size along with very reasonable prices. Hands down the best tomato sauce I've had... Ever? Every pizza place in town or out that I try I compare to this sauce. Its got a somewhat sweet taste to it. Ordered delivery today just a cheese pizza, $16 after tip of $2. $14 is to me expensive for a cheese pizza. I'm that guy that has pizza once to twice per week and am used to paying more so like $11 for a large cheese at the most. So price is out there. Delivery took 45 minutes to get here... And we are literally right around the corner.. As in one block... Driver seemed miserable. Basically threw the pizza at me before he even handed me the slip to sign. Didn't say a word. Not "how are you". Not "sign this PLEASE", not "thank you"... Nothing As for the pizza... Perfectly cooked REAL cheese.. Crispy darkened gooey cheese. I order a small Special Pizza for lunch, called a head to dine in. It was good, the staff were nice. It was clean and cozy place. Location is easy to get to and there is parking in the back. It's important to note, I've lived in East Hartford since I was born. I grew up getting queen for dinner on Friday nights after dance when Anita deprey still owned her studio on silver lane. I grew up on this restaurant's food and find it to be pretty damn good. Unfortunately, my entire feeling about this establishment changed after I encountered the rudest woman taking orders today . As soon as she picked up the phone, she rudely exclaimed that she needed us to take her off speaker which was not a problem. However things only went downhill. She barely let you get a word in and then when you do, she interrupts to ask something you've already said in a irritated tone like she's doing you the biggest favor! I informed her that her tone was rather rude and she of course made a smart alec quip and began a rant. I went to the restaurant to pick up my order and I was hoping to also speak to management but instead she decided to argue with me. Everyone else stood around instead of trying to offer any resolution. Personally it was a major turnoff and people that don't know how to speak to customers shouldn't answer the phone. read more

It was not that good. We ordered a bunch of food last winter for my cousin's daughters bday party. Mike, the manager, said it would be on time and it's no problem about how much we ordered. Turns out, their driver showed up very late, the food was cold and he dropped like 3 pies on his way up to the party. We were very disappointed, and wasted a lot money. I love ordering from this place, not once I have had any issues with delivery or the staff. When I choose to pick up the pizza, staff are always friendly. When delivered, its about 30 minutes which to me is not a problem. I have tried a few places around town and Queen by far is the BEST pizza I have tasted. This place is where you want to go for really good affordable pizza... It is cheesy, toppings are good, not GREASY unlike many places I have tried, the crust is not BURNT, is nice and doughy and has a perfect crisp, I ordered from this place at least 3-4 times a month and my kids love it :-) they leave NO pizza behind, lol which is actually a compliment to QUEENS.
