We heard so much about Mozz & Co that we drove all the way from West Haven just to try their sandwiches. I wish we had checked their closing times, because we got there after 3:00 PM on a Sunday, which is when they close. We were almost turned away, but after we mentioned how far we had driven to try their food, the woman taking orders quickly brought the manager over. We explained our situation, and he came over and said we could order anything cold. They were out of chicken cutlets--the one sandwich we originally wanted--but seconds before we put in our second choice order, the owner/chef came over and told us they found some chicken cutlets, and we could order anything we wanted. So we did. We got the Calabrese Cotoletta. Boy, was it beyond phenomenal. The crispy cutlets married with that luxurious vodka sauce was just a memorable experience for my taste buds. Not to mention the ricotta and the pesto on top of that! It was like the best chicken cutlet style sandwich I have ever had in my entire life. It is a must try. I love that this place is family owned, it's small, quaint, and has a very decent sized outdoor patio. It's all very conveniently located next to Whole Foods at the Blue Back Square area of West Hartford. If you are planning to visit, here are a few tips I picked up from other regulars: Parking can be tough: The parking lot is small and fills up fast, so you might want to park at the Isham garage or the Whole Foods lot. Order ahead: This place is very popular, and the line can get long, so ordering online can save you a lot of time. Prepare for a big meal: The portion sizes are huge! I have been stalking the menu at Mozz and Co since they opened. I live in town but wanted to wait until the buzz calmed down. The buzz has not calmed down and that is wonderful for the restaurant. It is really, really small and the parking lot on a rainy summer Friday at 11:30 was full. I ordered via the Toast app and got the small Calabrese Cotoletta and small La Nonna, both on semolina. I found the semolina to be a little too crisp as well as the chicken cutlets. It was as if the chicken was cooked the day before. The chicken was overflowing on the sandwich but impossible to bend into the bread. The flavor combo was absolutely delicious. I ended up eating it with a sharp knife and fork. I also tried my wife's La Nonna and again, it was super tasty but with the hard bread and uncut meatballs it was also not eaten as a sandwich. My wife ordered a half sandwich and could barely get through half of the voluminous offering. She liked it. -- Calabrese Cotoletta ($12): Chicken Cutlet, Nduja Vodka sauce, Stracciatella, Pesto. This was even more voluminous, with at least three cutlets, and the colorful condiments distributed messily and unevenly. I definitely enjoyed it, but I didn't think the flavors lived up to the bright visuals-- the pesto was obviously there but got a little lost. I ordered a half sandwich and got full after a half of the half. The thick slab of mozzarella was the star, and the meats were even more plentiful than they had to be. My daughter and I shared two sandwiches with one order of chips and it was more than enough. The Senora Almafi had prosciutto, fig jam, arugula, Gorgonzola cream, balsamic and evoo. Good sandwiches, affordable and ample This place has been blowing up my social media feed as of late. So we decided to make the trek and try this new place out. Seating is limited, and the place was very busy. Good signs, but also daunting when you come in off the street and only have a couple minutes to navigate the menu. I opted for the la Regina on focaccia as a small, and some truffle parm chips. Food came out quick, and we grabbed pics for the review. The food is good, good quality meats and sauces, the size is fairly large for a small. One sandwich is easily enough to satisfy the biggest of appetites. The issue I had was although it was flavorful, it was too much bread and arugula to get an ideal bite. Had to dissect the sandwich to get everything in one chomp. When you did, the meat was sliced fresh, the sauces had the right amount of zip, and the bread was fresh. All the elements were good, just disproportional. A few tables away, a couple of influencers were getting their reels built. Owner greeted them directly and chatted with them briefly. Good to see the owner engaged with those posting on their behest. Seemed to be addressing friends and social media types, but not so much other patrons. A server did eventually address all tables and checked in with us, but there was limited service beyond this. For the area, it's good eats at a reasonable price point. A fine addition to the foodie scene and a great place for a bite to eat. I wanted to try something new and I heard about this place over social media. I kinda knew the area so I knew it would be busy for a Saturday afternoon. Good luck on finding parking in the lot because it is small. You might have to park else where and walk to the shop. Since I knew it was going to be busy I ordered online and pick it up later than the suggested time. I ordered the Cotolette Classico (chicken cutlet sandwich) and the La Nonna (Meatball Sub). Couldn't decided if I should order the full or half but end up getting the half. Driving there, my assumption was correct and parking was a no go. I had to park at the Whole Foods lot and go in quickly. Walking in it was a cute shop but very small. The line was out the door and I didn't know who I need to speak to get my online order. Once the crowd moved a bit, I saw a rack against the wall with brown bags and excuse myself through the crowd. I found my name on a bag and took it off the rack and walked out. No one greeted or check me. I guess it runs on the honor system. I got home and we open the boxes. The half was more than enough for one person. Each sandwich was still hot, delicious and a bit messy. I would definitely order take out from here again but chance of trying to dine in is a no go. read more

I wanted to love Mozz & Co. The food really is that good. The Calabrese Cotoletta and truffle chips were both 10/10, and you can tell there's real potential behind the menu. Unfortunately, the experience didn't match. This is not a full-service restaurant, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's important to know going in. You order at the counter, then basically fend for yourself trying to find a seat, if you're lucky enough to grab one. We were there for about two hours total (30 min to order, an hour + waiting for food), and the whole place felt like a zoo. The space is cute, but it's very tight, the outdoor seating helps a bit... though they could definitely use more tables. I do think the staff is trying their best, but the system is clearly overwhelmed. The woman taking and calling out orders was visibly stressed, handed us the wrong food, then argued that it was our fault. Orders are called once and then left on a shelf, so you're constantly checking...not exactly a relaxing dining experience. Parking is also a mess (maybe 8 spots, double parking everywhere, got blocked in trying to leave). On top of everything, the prices feel pretty steep for the portions (especially the cream line), and small details added to the frustration like glass bottle sodas with no help opening them and a phone number that was not in service when I tried calling. I might try again once the chaos dies down, but right now the experience takes away from how good the food actually is. read more

The line is out the door! Get here early--well before lunch if you want to eat on time. :) Joe and his staff go above and beyond to make sure you have a high-quality experience. They're friendly, attentive, and double-check every order. Seating is limited indoors, but there's outdoor seating too, which is a nice way to escape the bustle. The menu is varied and interesting. Joe introduces so many different flavors and combinations that eating here is an education in Italian sandwich cuisine--it's truly unique, and you learn a lot just reading the menu. My only wish is for a few more traditional options to satisfy simpler tastes. For me I think this is a place that is dependent heavily on what you order. I think this could be a five star, but for us it was a four star. The food quality was very good, however the portion sizes of the sandwiches makes them almost inedible. And all the tables around us were having the same issue. Many ended up using a fork and knife to attach the monstrous plate in front of them. I ordered a chicken cutlet, which was well seasoned. However, I didn't order the one with sauce, and it desperately needed the sauce. My husband ordered the pistachio cream sandwich, which was tasty but very subtle flavors. The chips were very good, flavored well and crispy. For us we will come back but order the chicken cutlet with sauce (think their version of a chicken parm). read more

I'm only able to review ONE sandwich because I'm totally obsessed with it. The Regina on their gluten free bread is out of this world! Never in my 10 plus years as a gluten free person have I had sandwich bread this amazing. We all know that bread makes or breaks a sandwich this bread makes the sandwich! I do need to say that I am not celiac but highly sensitive and have not had a problem eating or getting takeout here. For those gluten eating folks, my husband loves the Italiano Classico on their semolina. He also, only wants to order that sandwich. First off - let's talk about the wait time. EASILY over an hour - I could go to a sit down restaurant for lunch and be in and out in less time than it takes to get a sandwich here. That will probably self-regulate over time. I've tried a couple different sandwiches, a salad and the tiramisu. Huge portion sizes (the half size is more than enough). I've gotten both the classico and chicken cutlet and in both cases a LOT of meat. But its not a well balanced sandwich - arugula is an after thought - if the protein was ramped down and the arugula ramped up, it would work better - and presumably take less time to make. Bread isnt great - foccacia is meh, the semolina I wouldnt get again. Tiramisu ratios were completely wrong - it was like a hash of lady fingers loaded with whipped cream. If the order time comes down I might go back but not sure. read more

Wow this place is popular! I went on a Sunday afternoon and was told that a takeout order would take 90 minutes. I didn't mind because the store is within walking distance of two grocery stores and a boba tea shop. Plenty to do while waiting. Unfortunately, the order wasn't ready for pick-up until way later-- like more than 2 hours later. The actual pick-up time was fifteen minutes after they had closed the store for the day! Afterwards, I discovered that they had forgotten to give me the house chips that I ordered. But what I did get-- the Porchetta Trifolata and Fungi Siciliano on Semolina-- was absolutely delicious. The ingredients were fresh, seasonings were impeccable, and the bread was the right kind of chewy. The tiramisu looked a mess, but it tasted heavenly. Hopefully they get their process sorted out over time or maybe find a better way to notify people that their order is ready so there isn't so much time wasted waiting. I was able to make it to Mozz & Co on opening day, and right from the start I was impressed. The staff was incredibly friendly even with the large turnout. I ordered 3 sandwiches to go for myself & family. There was a nearly hour long wait, but I expected such with the rush and the fact that it was in fact their very first day. No problem at all. The sandwiches (all half size) were still large & generously stuffed with all of their unique components. I was impressed by my trattoria trio, loaded with marinated eggplant, their house mozz, arugula, and artichoke tapenade. You have a choice between semolina loaf and house focaccia bread, so I went with the focaccia. It was a unique filling and flavorful vegetarian option, and sadly that's hard to find. The calabrese cotoletta (chicken cutlet, nduja vodka sauce, pesto, and stracciatella) and signora amalfi (prosciutto, fig jam, Gorgonzola cream, balsamic, and arugula) got rave reviews from my family as well, both equally impressive looking. I have since returned for trattoria trio, and it was just as good the second time! I ordered ahead online, and my order was ready at the estimated time. They even remembered me! The prices are extremely reasonable, especially given the portions, so I expect to be a regular. I would gladly eat my food there, the space is inviting and nicely decorated, though not huge. I got the porchetta sandwich on gluten free bread. It was so good and the gluten free bread was phenomenal. The staff was extremely friendly. I would say there are 2 things keeping this place from a full 5 stars. First off, for a $24 sandwich I expect it to be stuffed. I think the regular full gluten sandwiches looked pretty filled but mine definitely was a bit light on the filling. Also, the wait time is crazy. I happened to be off work but waiting 30-40 min for a sandwich means I could never plan on going during the week. All in all it was a great sandwich though. read more

I ordered take out online and it estimated to be ready by 12:38 and they were spot on! When I arrived, it's such a cute spot. The parking is not ideal but they didn't have a lot of options. I imagine lots of people are going to be parking in Whole Foods. The ambiance is super cute. It's very tiny with a few tables and counter spots. The docs makes it feel a bit cramped and close together. But they have a nice outdoor patio. I was immediately greeted by an older gentleman who told me he retired and lives on the same street as the owner and offered to help. He was hustling! He was so kind and made sure to grab my order number and kept me updated. He was very personable. I order Le Regina after seeing it recommended on Yelp. I ordered the half which was smart because portions are big. This sandwich was delicious! I got it on focaccia and you can tell it's homemade. So light and fluffy. I ended up getting two sandwiches: La Regina (mortadella, pistachio cream, stracciatella, arugula, hot honey) and Il Pasiano (fennel sausage, roasted peppers & onions, smoked mozzarella, pepperoncini aioli). La Regina was incredibly fresh and absolutely delicious. I fell in love with mortadella on a recent trip to northern Italy, and this brought me right back. But Il Pasiano? Completely out of this world. Hands down the best Italian sausage sandwich I've ever had. The sausage itself was phenomenal, easily the best I've tasted, and everything else on it just elevated it to another level. And don't skip dessert. I wanted to love it but I found it impossible to eat. Got the chicken cutlet with vodka sauce and it came out a total mess. The roll was so hard and stale it could not be chewed, it broke at the bottom, the entire sandwich turned into a sloppy mess that could only be eaten by dissecting it with a knife and fork but by then it was just a heap of a mess. Looked around and that seemed to be the way of it for everyone. And all that was on the counter was small cocktail napkins. If its not supposed to be a sandwich-- why call it one? My wife got the Milano Royale and I got the Regina. The quality of the meats and toppings was fantastic. Unfortunately the focaccio both came on was a bit stale. The bread to sandwich ratio was really off - the bread was too thick for the quantity of ingredients and that combined with it being stale just made my sandwich a dry experience that wasn't as flavorful as it could be. The stracciatella was nice texturally, but lacked flavor (could use salt to really enhance it). Overall a pretty decent sandwich, but it could really have been next level. I've never written a review in my life, but felt extremely compelled to after what was a life changing experience. It sounds dramatic, but it's true. Unbelievable sandwiches (and at great value for the amount of food you get). I'll be going out of my way to stop here on every trip near/through CT. I've been waiting 4 months for this place to open. Anticipation was high. Friends teased me for stopping by often to check for updates and see how the buildout was coming. Yesterday Our neighbors said they tried it out and it was excellent. We did take out today. Placed order 1115am, it was ready 1245. Easy process through Toast / Apple Pay. We walked there - wise move since the parking lot is tiny and tough to maneuver. I suspect most people will park at adjacent lots like Whole Foods and isham garage The benches and tables outside were well populated and everyone seemed to be having a nice time. Guessing they were waiting for a table which I overheard was 90 minutes. We grabbed our sandwiches and before we left the staff double checked it to make sure it was accurate - great attention to detail! Nobody enjoys finding an error when they reach home. We opened the boxes at home and realized the half sandwiches we ordered were each enough for two people. Packaging was good, efficient and effective. Two of the sandwiches were on focaccia, one on semolina, both options were excellent. The broccoli rabe on the porchetta sandwich was mildly inconvenient/ unwieldy but still worth it - delizioso. Allora, the milano was so beautifully balanced with artichoke citrus and tartufo (often overdone). My fidanzata liked the nonna the most - simple but comforting. We recommend this new fab spot unabashedly. My high expectations were met, maybe exceeded. Will try dining in when it's not so busy. Will look to other reviews for the low down on tiramisu, and the acoustics of dining in. This place is amazing! High-quality fresh ingredients. You can taste the bread, desserts, mozzarella are fresh made. You can't go wrong with whatever you choose and I never been to a place I've said that about. Portions are huge so prices are appropriate and reasonable. Order ahead if you don't want to wait. Everything is made to order so there can be a wait. If you can find a table you can still sit and eat there but it travels well too. The atmosphere is casual, comfortable and aesthetically pleasing.
