A really charming and vintage inn on the north end of the island. My boyfriend and I have stayed here twice this summer. Fair warning this inn does not have air conditioning. Just a floor fan in each room. So it was HOT. But a local advised us that none of the inns on the island have ac. That made us feel better. So if you're staying here at the Narragansett inn during the summer, request a corner room. Those rooms have two windows so there's is better air flow. The rooms that are not on the corners only have one window and therefore no airflow. Also keep in mind there are minimal outlets, as it is a very old inn. So you can pick if you want your phone charging or the fan on. The bathrooms are shared. 1-2 bathrooms per floor. So you will be sharing a shower and a toilet with your floor mates. Bring flip flops for the shower if you're not keen on germs. There is however a small sink and mirror in each of the rooms for brushing your teeth or grabbing a glass of water during the night, as you will surely wake up drenched in sweat and dehydrated The beds in the rooms are a full size, not queen or king. Certain rooms do have twin beds. The staff is warm and welcoming. They serve complimentary coffee and delicious muffins in the morning (snag a pistachio muffin) Also on the weekends they do a champagne breakfast. We have not gotten the chance to experience the champagne breakfast because we hit it hard both nights this summer and ended up sleeping in The inn is close to 'dead eye dicks' a restaurant and bar right across the street. They serve amazing espresso martinis and you can sit out on the lawn right near the water with all the boats docked and watch the sun set! (See photo attached) It's also close to a bike rental shop about a quarter mile away and the inn offers bike racks so you can lock up your bike overnight. People are silly. Block Island is awesome but very expensive. This Inn is operated by lovely people. It is clean and basic. There is absolutely nothing fancy. No WiFi, electronic door keys, or A/C. You DO get an ocean breeze, windows that open, and if you fall asleep outside on a chair, somebody will bring you a blanket. it's a very chill place, and if you're a beach person, you'll love it. if you're pretentious, you better stay somewhere else. Everyone who worked the front desk was very accommodating and friendly. Mary went out of her way to make sure I had a nice stay. The cleaning crew does a great job. Remember, if you go, it's a place to sleep, close to the beach! read more

I really wanted to like this inn. When they had their fire and had to rebook us for another room, I was genuinely so happy with their customer services and kindness. All that changed when we checked in. The rooms themselves were fine, the beds comfortable, the bathroom decent. The first morning we woke up, we were completely without hot water. We went down to the front desk to find out that they had shut it off for the day. We had zero warning about it, no showers for us. It felt ridiculous to not tell your guests something like that. I tried countless times to get in touch with the managers about the situation, but to no avail. I still have not received a call back regarding my trip in June. I would not stay here again. Perhaps without this mishap it would have been a decent stay, but this was really a deal breaker for me. read more

Well we were hoping to have a great local seafood dinner here on Block Island. Unfortunately the food and restaurant didn't cooperate. The grilled seafood sampler had charred lobster (dry), steamed clams (No taste) burned fingerling potatoes at least 50%, burned corn (they brought a new one that was perfect) the $39 price tag was poking me with every bite. Good thing is they saw my frustration with the dish and comp'd the meal. It was appreciated but I really wanted the good food read more

This place is ok. Old but filled with beautiful views. With that being said the staff is very nice and helpful. The room sucks. Its hot a/f. No ac . Was hoping for a breeze , didn't happen. A quaint, Victorian treasure. Ignore the vanilla reviews from those who assume that every inn is required to offer luxury amenities, my stay was lovely. Where some of the reviews complain about the literally 5 minute cab ride required to get to the "action," i actually enjoyed being away from the main drag. The Inn sits proudly upon a hill lined with gorgeous flower bushes and patio furniture, and it and peers down at Payne's dock, which was by far one of my favorite spots on the Island that we totally would've missed had it not been for the Inn. While the room and amenities were minimalist, the charm was anything but. Our stay felt simple and unburdened. While there are no AC's, which seemed to be an issue for some, it's worth nothing that the breeze on the island once the sun goes down is heavenly and each room had a brand new fan as far as I could tell! The beds were comfy and I didn't even mind the shared bathrooms. Above all, the staff were phenomenal. They were warm, engaging, and spot on with recommendations. read more

Extremely friendly staff, from the moment we arrived they made the trip special. Room and bed were very clean. Shared bathrooms were not a problem, never had someone knock while using the shower, etc. Amazing location, we loved being a little tucked away from the main strip, and always had plenty of parking outside the hotel. It's all about the location! Dining is on a big porch that over looks New Harbor. The sun also sets there! They have Adirondack chairs on the lawn for enjoying a nice glass of wine while taking in the view. The food was just mediocre. I had the fisherman's platter. It consisted of A 1 1/4 lb steamed lobster, mussels, clams, red potatoes & seafood hush puppies. The hush puppies were the best! A little spicy, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside with pieces of lobster meat. The lobster was bland and tough. Seamed to be over cooked. My husband had seafood paella. It was made with risotto. Kind of odd! Only a couple pieces of seafood through out. The risotto made it soupy! The service was very slow. Our reservation were at 6:15. We didn't leave until after 9. I'd go back, but just for a cocktail on the lawn to view the sunset. read more

This place needs A LOT of work. The windows don't open properly, and the decor needs a major update. The paint is peeling on the walls in the rooms, and all around the house. The floor of the shower is very stained and no hot water. There aren't any rugs so the floors are always sandy. There isn't someone stationed at the front desk so there were times I waited over 10 minutes to let someone know the the fire alarm panel box outside of our room was beeping all night long with a system malfunction code. I would not recommend. It could be very nice if it was updated. It's extremely expensive for what they offer. read more

This place is not fancy. You are not getting a 5 star hotel. You are getting a place to sleep. With that being said, we loved our stay. Mary at the front desk was incredibly nice, and she made sure we had everything we needed. The hotel represents everything I love about Block Island: a charming place, great views, friendly people, and no gimmicks. We could walk to get donuts and coffee in the morning and sit on the massive front porch while watching the sun come up. Close to The Oar, close to the beach, a good mile walk to town. They don't offer water. There's no tv or WiFi. Walls are thin so I clearly heard people thumping about upstairs at all hours of the night(in the second house). Camping would honesty be better than this. Feels dirty but staff was nice. read more

If you are looking for a quiet, classic place to stay on Block Island this is perfect. Although simple in nature, this Inn was refreshing to come back to at night because of its simplicity. Although there are shared bathrooms they are clean. The people who work here are the nicest hosts I've ever met, going out of their way without asking. The lady working the front desk combined twin beds for me and my partner so we could have a queen bed. We came home from a day in town and the bed was waiting for us. Will definitely be returning!! read more

What a cute place! I was brought here to the bar by a BI local. The bar is small but I loved the old wood bar and historic feel to the Inn. We sat on the deck to watch the sun set over the little marina. They don't have a big drink list, but I really enjoyed the 14 hands cabernet that was moderately priced. A must go. read more

We were seated in a private corner out by the lawn over looking the salt pond to watch the sun-set. Extra points just for the seats. The wine list is ok, we asked to try one of the chardonnays we were not familiar with before purchasing a bottle and was allowed by the very pleasant Bulgarian wait staff. The Calamari app we started with was very light and the fresh tomato sauce tasty. Had the narganset veal which was delicious, both sweet and savory a point I feel can never be under-rated. I stayed here in July 2010 and it was unpleasant. I was put in a first floor room in a separate building from the main inn. To cool the room, I had to open a window (only one of two did that) which opened onto a front porch that other guests were using. It was like sharing my bed, also next to window, with strangers. The guy at the frontdesk was nice enough to come spray the room for bugs. Nuff said. Bathroom was tiny. There was no closet and no place to put a bag if you didn't want it on a floor just sprayed for bugs. The inn has a lovely porch, a bar, and it's lawn stretches down to Old Harbor's beach. That said, $200 a night seemed overpriced for an experience that was akin to camping. Won't be back. read more

Some of the rooms may have seen better days, but otherwise the place is entirely charming. The wrap around porch is fabulous to enjoy the breeze, sunset and a cocktail. For the island, it's reasonable priced, and comes with a solid buffet breakfast. The staff is friendly and, better yet, tolerant - we may have been a high maintanence bunch. Yet everyone - all guests - a mix of all generations/demographics, seemed to be having an excellent time - Good job guys, I'd come back. read more

Completely agree with the other review here. If your expectation is Westin or Marriott, this place is not for you. But if you want the real experience of rustic, beautiful Block Island this is the best spot. Views are five star - also an added benefit to be right at Paynes Wharf with all of the boat activity. Great little outdoor grill for lunch on the pier, and the home made donuts across the way will make you consider forgoing the free breakfast buffet at the Narragansett. The best room is 12 which is a corner with water views out both windows. You have to share the bathroom, but we never even saw another person on our floor. We have stayed before many times and we will be back again! read more

When you arrive and spend the week at Block by boat, you tend to dine at the places that might be close to the Pond. And you cannot beat the view from the Narragansett Inn. It is old, but sitting on the lawn may be the best part of this Inn. Our yacht club has had a number of events at this location and we have found the food to be dry and just not worth the price we paid. But again, location, location, location. So, I really don't expect much. On my most recent visit we ate out on the porch and the food was quite tasty -- surf and turf. The service was quite good. But my Marguerita was orange and I went to the bar and the Serbian working the bar just did not understand what went into the concoction. So, my advise is to help these students and international workers by telling them what goes into your drink. They really aim to please. read more

Old rustic hotel. Didn't stay here but rather grabbed some sangria on the back porch over looking the water after a long days bike ride. Staff is nice and wasn't apposed to us hanging out in the bar and veranda area for an hour. Beautiful view and quieter than other venues closer to the old harbor. read more

We ate at the Narragansett last week and it was definitely the best food we had on Block Island. It's not just seafood, it's more Italian. The food is clearly made with care, not obtained from the mainland as at many Block Island restaurants. It's flavorful and attractively. There was a good children's menu. The setting on the porch overlooking the boats in Great Salt Pond was spectacular at sunset. read more

The setting for dinner on the outside porch is wonderful as well as the food. I had a spectacular Seafood Alfredo that was loaded with lobster and clams over linguini and smothered in a delicious pecorino Alfredo sauce. It was to die for! Mom had the "Trio of Beef" burger 8oz Blend of Short Rib, Chuck & Brisket Beef Burger on a Pretzel Bun, Bib Lettuce, Tomato, Sriracha Cheddar, Crispy Shallots. It was big and delicious. My wife had the Baked Haddock with Creamy Spinach & Cashew Topping Made w/Fresh Block Island Ricotta Panko Breadcrumb, Roasted Root Vegetable Medley. She thought it was very good. Everything was reasonably priced and there was no wait. The staff was very pleasant and very patient. Mom is 86 and reads the menu quite thoroughly. I highly recommend the Narragansett Inn. Manager, Ross Draper, and the entire Draper family know how serve to be the best in service and quality!! read more

Just a horrible experience. The wait staff are the rudest, slowest and easily the most incompetent I ever encountered. they blatantly lied about several things. 17 minute wait to get drinks, and they were wrong. At the time we attempted to order we were told what was no longer available. The sad thing is the view is great, the porch dinning area is cute. We had to walk away. Dead Eye Dicks provided a wonderful evening with great food, excellent service and drinks made properly and delivered promptly. What a shock ! Always Loved this spot, great views, wonderful food, friendly staff. First day of vacation we were there, not going back! Really disliked the menu, bartender in such a bad mood, complained, so rattled , could not get out of her own way. The view was wonderful, the evening so Unpleasant, too sad. After booking without checking reviews, I was nervous for my stay once I got around to reading the reviews. I am picky, and tend to choose upscale resorts when going away. But I have to say this place was absolutely everything I wanted it to be. It was charming, clean and I loved everything about it. We were able to check in early with no problem, the room was clean and the perfect size. To be honest I was terrified when I found out it was a shared bathroom but I ended up not caring at all. The property is beautiful, views all around, we walked to The Oar across the lawn for a mudslide, watched the sunset on the lawn loungers, and had a great day. The room cooled down perfectly at night. I cannot wait to go back. Of course its an old building, but updates would cause it to lose its charm. The only thing I would strongly suggest is that they offer water. There was a vending machine that was not working, and I really really needed some water. read more

We just came back from dinner on the beautiful deck overlooking the harbor. The view, the free round of drinks and the shrimp coctail are why I'm giving them three stars. One of our party of four had the Naragansett Chicken which was discribed as what you would get on a Burger King sandwich, with a plethora of greens. Two of us got the Baked Stuffed Shrimp with "lump crab meat stuffing". It was, without question, frozen, prepaired, with no lump crab meat at all. The fourth got the half chicken which was juicy and worth wrapping as leftovers. The service started out great, then I ended up tracking down our waitress to pay the bill. I can't say I'ld recommend anything but the shrimp cocktail and chicken. read more

Just had dinner for two and the food was great. We shared the scallops appetizer which was excellent. Entrees were the "three beef" burger with cheddar. Probably the best craft burger on the island, and the Caesar salad with shrimp. Again very well done. We live on the island and try just about every restaurant each year. The porch is a wonderful place to dine and watch the sunset over the harbor and great salt pond. The lovely white hotel perched on a hill by the harbor itself is a trip back in time. Amelia Earhart stayed there. So 5 stars on the location. The food is 3 stars. Hit or miss and sometimes like a trip back to the 70s. There was disconnect between the description and what was served but they seemed to be trying. Staff was enthusiastic and attentive. I did not care for the white wine choices by the glass--may want to consider a bottle or drink beer. Historic Inn, this place has been here a long time. Beautiful view and a great front deck to lounge. This place is for people who are on the island to SEE the island, therefore aren't in their rooms except for when they're crashing for the night. Cozy, cute rooms and clean shared bathrooms. Continental breakfast includes HOT ITEMS, how wonderful. Hostesses are not American and their English isn't great, so resource tourist magazines for restaurant/sightseeing suggestions. read more

Overall stay was OK, but don't be fooled into thinking you'll necessarily stay in a quaint Victorian. Our room was in one of the cottages in the back of the inn (unknown to us) and they weren't quaint (though we were happy to get any accommodations planning last-minute on 4th of July). The room was very expensive, but the location, approx 1 mile from where ferry drops off, was looking into the harbor from a hill which was nice to view fireworks AND there is an excellent restaurant a stone's throw from the Inn (in back of the Inn). The inn is run by college-aged kids who are a little too laid back to be efficient. If you stay here, request a room inside the inn if you're going for a B&B vacation (and don't stay in a cottage unless absolutely necessary). read more

Two room suite was overpriced at best. I love rustic, but mold in the room is to rustic for my taste. Staff was friendly, location is good. Rooms not swept, bathroom was exceptible at $100 a night but if your going to charge the prices they charge you have to update and clean the bathrooms. I think we can do better for the money. read more

New chef this year, whole new dining experience....dinner with a sunset view and the food is delicious they have lots of local fish, steaks and delicious rice bowls if you want to eat on the healthier lighter side. I highly recommend checking out. read more
