This review is long overdue and is for my wedding on October 14th, 2017. I have known Bernadette, and Rick by extension, for a while before I hired them to be my wedding photographers. I could not have gone with them since I was planning to invite them as guests. But their exceptional talent has led me to hiring them instead. Wedding planning is stressful so I was glad that Bernadette was on point with working with me on planning the shoot locations and timeline since our wedding schedule is very tight. They also respected our wishes of having more natural photos versus the super posed pictures that I have seen with other photographers. My husband and I are pleased with the photos from our wedding. We even had a sneak peak a week after our wedding, which I did not expect because it takes most photographers a month or more to come up with the photos. We also had a photo slideshow from them that we were able to share with friends on social media. The online photo gallery was also easy to share with close friends and family. Still have to work with them on the photo album though. In sum, I would highly recommend Bernadette and Rick to anybody who is getting married or anybody who would need photography services. My family has worked with Narrative Images twice: the first time when my daughter was only a few weeks old, and the second time 2 years later. Each shoot was pleasant and very casual -- and they worked with our son to get him more comfortable with the camera (he was 3 years old and then 5 years old for the shoots). For the newborn shoot, they were patient when I needed to feed the baby. They brought all of the props, cloth backdrops, and did a thorough job staking out our property for nicely lit shots. I love that they work as a team (Bernadette & Rick); I truly believe a team of 2 is far superior to just a lone photographer -- help with lighting, setting up shots, staking out areas for the next shot, entertainment for the sometimes non-cooperative kiddos, and moving undesirable objects out of shots. We loved the results of the shoot, and we love that we get lots of digital photos (high resolution version, web-appropriate resolution version that are available for download from a website, and a mailed jump drive). I've actually had two photo shoots with Bernadette in the last two months, and both were super fun and turned out great collections. In October, we did a family shoot and baby photos for my niece on the beach in La Jolla. We don't know what was more fun - the shoot itself, or getting the photos back! Rick and Bernadette are true professionals. Getting married and working with a ton of vendors and not having a wedding coordinator was difficult. But what really helped us are the vendors we had like Rick and Bernadette. They were ever professional, super flexible with changes and had great ideas on picture locations and made it so that the day of the wedding we barely had to think about or worry about our pictures. Further, due to our strong family and cultural ties we had many requests for family pictures at the church and asked for pictures at the head table with every table with a wedding of 270 people. I know these things probably aren't fun to do for such great photographers of their quality, but they were super accommodating and happy to honor our wishes. Overall, as you can probably tell, our experience with them was amazing. We actually haven't seen the pictures yet, but at the reception they displayed a few of the pictures and everyone who saw them raved about them, so we can't wait. There were a few photos that I felt needed to be photo shopped because we had bags underneath our eyes :( They did it for free because it's not standardly included but they were horribly touched up. My husband and i chose Rick and Bernadette as our wedding photographers based on a few things. For one, Narratie Images are not like other photographers. They do not do crazy advertising, they dont go to Bridal Bazaars to get potential clients and most of all they are completely and utterly 100% down to earth. They are artists and photo journalists which was exactly what I had wanted. I ended up meeting with a lot of different photographers and getting quotes from all of them. Rick and Bernadette's pricing was right in line with all of the other photographers and the best part was it included a full day of wedding coverage in the FULL package price, which is really hard to find. Most other photographers charge you an additional $200/extra hour since they only typically offer 6 to 8 hours. Those photographers tried to sell me on the whole, you dont need me there starting at 11/12 in the morning until the wee hours of the night. I knew I wanted full coverage of the entire day from getting ready to heading home and with Rick and Bernadette that is what we got. My mom and I met with them on a Sunday afternoon at Twigs coffee shop in North Park. Right away I liked them. They were so interested in my husband and I and how we had met and "our" story. Most of the other photographers just wanted my money and were going to do anything to get it (including slashing their prices so significantly). I explained to Rick and Bernadette that I didn't typical stand and shoot photos but I wanted photos that were journalistic which they said is exactly what they do. They LOVE using motion which my husband and I thought was so cool that we ended up going to the Del Mar Fair. We have had so many people comment us on our photos and I now understand why Rick and Bernadette dont NEED to advertise themselves, they have full advertising from their clients. While I have yet to see the full finished product (hoping to see them soon), I did see a sneak preview of our wedding photos on the night of the wedding and I was already so amazed and happy. Rick and Bernadette were a DELIGHT to work with and I am sure that we will be calling on them again in the future for family photographs. I truly forgot that they were there taking photos the entire night of the wedding. If you are looking for photographers who blend into your guests, aren't in your face the entire night and capture amazing shots then Rick and Bernadette are what you are looking for! The thing that sealed the deal besides our initial meeting with Bernadette and Rick was their philosophy about capturing the day from a candid perspective. Bernadette and Rick had worked with 3 of my friends (one of which I recommended Narrative Images to them) before working with us. When it was time for us to choose a photographer for our wedding, we were very confident and comfortable with Narrative Images. They formally studied photography, so the quality of their pictures is evident in how they capture candid moments, movement, and lighting. Their natural pictures and ability to play with lighting truly stood out from the rest. Having formal or "natural" pictures is hardly natural for us, but they made us feel very comfortable and guided us throughout the process, especially during the engagement session.
