I LOVE this store and all of the people I've ever met in it! I tried to do some maintenance on my own, which resulted in my being unable to seat the race properly. I was under the gun to get some sewing done, but I could tell it wasn't working quite right. So I called Nashua Sew & Vac to see if someone could look at it for me that day. Rebeca said possibly, depending on how busy the shop was, but they would try to help me out. Worst case, I would need to leave it to get looked at later. Well as luck would have it, it was a quiet day and in 15 minutes they had it fixed and showed me how to avoid doing that again, all at no charge. I've had my two machines serviced here twice, and unfortunately I will be looking elsewhere after the last experience. My Viking embroidery machine had been acting finnicky, and so in preparation for a deadlined project, I took it in to be serviced. I made note of the stitch skipping issue and left it with them. Got it back quickly two weeks later, all seemed well until a week after that when I went to use it and immediately the needle shank snapped, rendering the machine unusable. A little bit of research showed me that this is a common wear and tear issue in certain Vikings that have their original shank and was possibly the cause of my stitch skipping. With only two more weeks before my deadline, I called up Sew & Vac to explain the issue with my supposedly serviced machine. The woman on the line sympathized but told me that I would essentially be dropped back into the back of the line for a brand new fix, and would not get my machine back for a few weeks, long after my deadline. But what about the fact that it was supposedly just serviced? Well, apparently that was my fault: they do not even look at the needle shank during servicing unless requested, which I did not do. I'm not a technician - how was I supposed to know the root cause of my machine's issues and direct them to where on the machine to look? Isn't that what a tech has been trained to do? I pointed out how ridiculous this sounded, and she told me that I could possibly get it back a little faster as a re-do, but she still couldn't tell me how long it would be. No consideration for my project, which was now in jeopardy because of their incomplete servicing. With no other options, I called around and the ladies at Emma's Quilt Cupboard were kind enough to do an emergency fix for me with a guaranteed pickup date before my deadline. I now know better and have found a new shop to frequent. read more

Best place to buy a higher end sewing machine. They also do repairs which is so important because there are fewer places that do that post-Covid. I have purchased three sewing machines here since August 2019: one to travel with to classes and one high end machine to celebrate my retirement! Both machines are excellent. I got the best price and wonderful service! My third machine was a specialty machine and it had something wrong with it right out of the box. I was nervous, fearing I had just wasted $1500. When I brought it in they quickly shipped it back to the manufacturer and I got it back working perfectly! I understand, it's a pandemic, everybody is digging old machines out of the closet to sew masks....and taking them in for service. Every retailer is short-staffed. However that's not an excuse to take in more machines than you can service, mislead customers about your time-frame, and not answer the phone. Service turnaround time is listed as 7 to 10 days on the website, the Covid sign on the door, and the printed receipt. After waiting 3 weeks with no update, I tried to call (many times). I left messages. I emailed. No reply. After several days of this, somebody finally picked up the phone and explained that their answering machine is broken, that the owner gets "thousands" of customer emails, they have over 200 sewing machine repairs in queue, and to wait another week. Strangely I received a call back an hour later, saying that my machine could not be fixed because a part is no longer available. I went to pick up the machine, and the scene was chaotic. They indeed had hundreds of client machines all over the floor, the staff was tripping over them, they would randomly come outside to check who was next in the long line waiting on the sidewalk. After waiting a half hour, I finally got my machine back. I asked for a mechanics receipt, to see what servicing had been done, and they looked at me like I was from Mars. So many excuses: the mechanic wasn't available, the printer is broken, all I should need is the Amex receipt. After another half hour I gave up and took the machine to the car. When I got home I received a call from the owner asking if I was interested in buying a new machine. Are you KIDDING? read more

I need to take my machines in for service but thought I'd scope them out first since its a bit of a hike form central Mass. The shop is crowded with "stuff" but light, bright and well organized so its a pleasure to shop. They have a great selection of feet and accessories for a variety of machine brands. They also have a selection of used machines. I picked up a reasonably priced second hand machine that runs smooth as silk. They offer a year of free service (parts extra) should anything go wrong with their used machines which I found very reasonable. I was told turn around for general service and cleaning of a sewing machine is roughly a week, a better quote than anyone else gave me. They were also very specific about *how* to bring in your machine - I don't need to bring the power cord and foot for my newer model but I should make sure the foot and throat plate are appropriate for zig-zag stitching. I should bring power cord and foot for my serger (a brand they don't carry) and it should be threaded for a standard 4 thread overlock. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. This is is a review of the Vacuum part of this store. This was my first time here despite the fact that my parents have lived in Nashua since 1998. My husband and I got a vacuum (at a big box retailer) as a present for our wedding in 2010. After buying a house, we realized how horrible of a job it did at getting our largely bare wood floors clean. Of course, we weren't going to get rid of it since there was nothing 'really' wrong with it. Fast forward 2.5 years, it finally broke!! Oh, Joyful Happy Day!! We did a ton of research online and asked friends and narrowed it down to a Miele. My husband found Nashua Sew and Vac and went to find out more info. We went together the next day and the Vacuum guy was there. He remembered my husband, as well as the models we had been interested in. Even though he had explained the vacuum we wanted to my husband the day before, he took the time to explain to me EVERYTHING about the vacuum we were about to purchase. I am very impressed with the level of customer service at this store. + They give you 15 days to use your new vacuum and bring it back for store credit or exchange it for another product (This is great for us because we were between 2 miele vacuums). + You have 3 days to bring it back for a full refund. + Within 2 years of purchase, you bring it in for a full tune up for free. + They will periodically send out coupons for discounts on attachments, bags, and accesories. + The vacuum man explained when and how to change out the filters and how to prolong the life of the different filters so we don't waste our money and get the most of our filters. I'm looking forward to what I hope will be a long, happy relationship with this store. I am currently in a love affair with our new vacuum, which works AMAZING and cant wait to get the car cleaning attachments for some holiday in the near future. I purchased a used Pfaff sewing machine at the beginning of the pandemic. Ruth was especially responsive and helpful with the purchasing process and remained so with questions that I had once I got it home. A while later, I ordered a Sew Steady Table for it. This time I interacted with Donna. She was also extremely helpful. Once I got the table home, I tried to put it on my machine. I was concerned that it wasn't the right fit. Once again Ruth was extremely responsive, even offering to lend me a table that she had at home if I needed to quilt something, and she ordered a new table. Much to my embarrassment, I installed the table wrong and the first table fit just fine. I hope that Ruth knows how much I appreciated her response and how highly I recommend this business. read more

I couldn't be happier with the tune up on my 25 year old White 1010 mechanical sewing machine. It had really been acting up lately, making the simplest of mending tasks an absolute nightmare. It screeched and squealed, the thread bunched up and broke...sewing anything was completely unenjoyable. I recently looked at new, basic sewing machines and wondered if I should replace instead of repair. But, the new machines looked and felt flimsy and lightweight compared to this solid, old machine. I'm so glad I went for the tune up. The staff were friendly and helpful and the service was completed very quickly. In addition to the tune up a $5 drive belt was replaced. This machine sews like a dream now. It's quiet, the stitches are even...and best of all, I'm no longer stressed out when I need to sew something. read more

I dropped off my Singer Futura on April 4th for a repair with the sewing being zigzag with the bobbin thread (which was correct) and a straight thread going through the top that pulled right out. No matter what tension I used I couldn't correct this. I knew I needed a professional. Nashua Sew and Vac was recommended by the Tewksbury Quilt Shop. The needle threader was broken and I wanted that fixed as well. I was told 3-4 days. I was thrilled thinking it would be 2 weeks! I understand Covid delayed a lot of things but two months later and I am still waiting. Multiple emails that are not responded to not the status of the project. I've called and was told the part for the needle threader is back ordered. Ok I understand but just let me know, Today I was told to just come pick up the machine. I asked is the sewing issue was fixed and was told she was sure it was bur would call me right back. That was 7 hours ago. I called and had to leave a message, Very disappointed. I understand there are issues that come up just have the courtesy of letting me know. read more

I'm giving Nashua Sew & Vac 5 stars largely based on their customer service. I've been taking my vacuum here for 7+ years for regular maintenance/service. Hauling the vacuum up and down the stairs in my home was getting to be a pain and suffered damage the 2 or 3 times I dropped it (that's a whole other story). The folks at NS&V did the best they could to keep my vac operational given the fact that I didn't want to spend much money fixing the damage I had done. I had noticed that Sew & Vac sold vacuum cleaners. On one trip in to pick-up my vac after I had it cleaned and belt(s) changed I took down the name of the brands of vacs they sell. Yes, I could have gone to one of the chains to purchase a vacuum but I really liked the service they provided and how helpful they had been over the course of the 7 years I have been going there. After a lot of research, I decided to go with one of the Miele models. I made an initial visit to talk to someone about the Miele I had my eye on. After spending 30 minutes with me, the sales person talked me down from the model I wanted. The woman kept apologizing for the fact that the guy that knows everything about vacuum cleaners wasn't there but she was fantastic. I didn't buy the vacuum that day because I wanted to take a few days to look into the less expensive model that the sales person had suggested. A week after my trip to NS&V I returned to make the purchase of the vacuum the salesperson had suggested (which was about $300 less than the one I initially intended to purchase). On this trip, the guy with all the vacuum cleaner knowledge was there. Even though the store was busy he spent 30-40 minutes with me reviewing the function of the model I was going to buy vs the one I decided to buy. He also told me not to buy any of the accessories for the Miele vacuum until I used the vacuum for a few months. He showed me the accessories that are available and while I was at the store I thought to myself that I would never need any of that stuff. As it turns out, I'm going back this weekend (I've had the Miele vacuum for over 3 months now) to buy the extra long crevice tool. The salesperson also explained the warranty and showed me how to change the filters and bags. Although my older vacuum cleaner is still functional I only use it when I don't feel like grabbing the new vac if it's upstairs. I never thought I would say this about something I use for my chores but I love my new vacuum and I'm glad I went with the folks at Nashua Sew & Vac. read more

Yeah, not so much. I had to go with one star because there USED to be a review on Yelp that had 2 stars but it got removed somehow. That review tipped me off as to what to expect for "service". It said "Rude." It was dead on. I called, thinking maybe the other reviewer had caught someone on a bad day. Nope. The woman who answered the phone was the most curt and abrupt woman I've ever dealt with. I'll add "Unpleasant" to the "Rude" comment from before. I had a problem with my vacuum cleaner and asked if they repaired my model. "Yes." "Oh, good! Can I bring it down for someone to look at? It's only a slipped belt and..." I was cut off with an weary explanation of "It'll take a week." Awkward silence. I stopped, a week? "But it's only a slipped belt, I know there's a tool to re-hook it..." Cut off again with "Well, he's not here." More awkward silence. Ohhhkayyyy...."Will he be in tomorrow?" Impatiently expressed, "Look, you can bring it in tomorrow and he'll let you know." Do you think I brought it in the following day? Would YOU bring ANYTHING to people like that? Yeah, not so much. Yelp...do yourself a favor and re-post that other "filtered" comment. A few months ago I bought my Bernina here for a steal of a deal. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable showing me many options for machines. With your sewing machine purchase you get a complementary "meat and potatoes" class. This class has all new sewing machine people with different machines. You bring your own and they show you a number of tips and tricks with the instructor showing each person how to do it on their machine. I was amazed by the knowledge and tips shared as I had been using my previous machine all wrong! I have returned a number of times to buy accessories and the staff is always more than happy to help and even order items for me. I do enjoy it there but I will say it is an older crowd. Maybe I am ahead of my generation with all my sewing!! read more

They were helpful on the phone when I called asking questions about various models and couldn't have been more helpful when I visited the store. The woman who helped me knows her products, asked me what type of machine I was looking for and what sort of floors I have in my house. She not only made knowledgeable recommendations, she told me that I did NOT need a higher-priced machine! I selected a vacuum, brought it home, and discovered that it wouldn't work as well on the rugs in my house as I thought.
