Recently our Clothes washer got to a state where in order for it to change cycles I had to punch it....Yes, Punch it.... My wife called their dispatch and told them that her husband had to "Punch the washer" in order to get it to work. The tech came out the next day, looked at me and said "How's your fist?" and then fixed it within 10 minutes and thus my Knuckles and hand are much relieved... FFE for Fast Friendly and Efficient service... They have bailed me out often. read more

Tom came as quickly as he could given this heatwave. Ours was just the dryer heating element died. He was wonderful and thorough! The vent which was long, had not been cleaned for years and FULL OF dogs fur!! Full. He had to return a few days later to deep clean the duct all the way! Now the dryer works like a dream. I can't recommend them highly enough! Not only are their prices competitive, but their knowledge and customer care is just outstanding! We used them for the purchase all of our appliances for our new build minus our washer/dryer which we owned already. We had an issue with our dryer not heating and were being given a run around by the chat bot from our warrantee company. Our builder's foreman suggested we call Brennan and Mackay. Even though I explained we hadn't purchased the dryer there, the wonderful customer service operator suggested something to try, and said she would talk with her technicians. She even called me back later to tell me their advice, knowing it is still under warrantee so we would not use them for the repair. We certainly will after the warrantee! Exceptional customer service! Our dryer broke and we went in looking to purchase a new one about 2 hours before closing on a Saturday. After speaking with Julien about options and explaining what happened to our, he said it was likely a belt that broke and explained how to replace it and sold us an $18 part. Unfortunately it wasn't the belt so my husband went back to purchase a new one, about an hour before closing. The dryer wouldn't fit in our SUV but Julien offered to drop it off to our house, in his own truck! You don't find this kind of service in any big box store. I have purchased major appliances at this store for over 35 years. Tom Brennan Sr. was the kindest and most helpful person you ever wanted to meet. But Neala Brennan (referred to as 'the confontational and rude woman" in other reviews) is undoing the legacy of this formerly wonderful family-owned business. Her behavior was extraordinary as she screamed at me in the showroom when I went to pick up an accessory she voluntarily offered us twice during our appliance purchase. I said "I cannot believe you are screaming at me in your own place of business over a utensil basket'. She practically threw the accessory at me saying 'I shouldn't have said anything to you about getting you this item". I gave her the benefit of the doubt, thinking maybe she had a one-off meltdown. She could have contacted us to apologize but did not. I see from the many other poor reviews that this is her standard behavior. Beware! I'm not sure I can ever shop there again. Her predecessors would be sad to see all their hard work and good customer service being undone by one person. read more

Today the two ladies in your store were so incredibly rude to my parents. I had warned them not to purchase there as they were as rude to Myself and husband. This is the only local shop I've ever been in that has made me want to go to a box store. If I am going to be treated so rude at least I'll pay less. **BEWARE** I have been a customer of Brennan's for over 30 years - bought all our appliances there over the years. I recently had an issue with our oven door (hinge issue) and Luke was scheduled to come out. He spent 15 minutes looking at the hinge that could not be fixed and received a bill of $119! By the way, I'm 1 mile from Brennans so they can't say it was travel time. I called to complain since I felt I was price gauged! The woman I spoke to was rude and explained that is the going rate. It is not the going rate after checking similar businesses. Before having them service your out of warranty appliances be sure to inquire about the rates. read more

If it wasn't for the people we met when we purchased our drier, we only would be giving the a one star. The only negative we had with this company was the rude condescending woman who answers their phone. We first called them after my father in-law recommended them. Had a question about an item on their website. When I asked my question she gave me a what the hell is that attitude. We told her it was on her website. At that point we ruled them out to buy from. We were driving back from Lowes and decided to stop at their store. The sales woman was great. She answered all our questions and the one she could she got one if the installers to answer it. We were impressed and bought the drier. Week later we found out the the drier was on back order and would be another week. At the end of the day of when we thought the order was going to be we called to see where the truck was. We got the same rude condescending woman we got the first time. Here is how the conversation went (seriously). Me: hi we are supposed to getting our drier today. Woman: we're not delivering you a drier today. Me: I thought the call I got before said it was coming in today. Woman: No, we are getting today. We can't deliver to you what we don't have. See first the item is put on a truck and delivered to the distribution center. Then they put it on another truck and deliver it to us. Then we put it on another truck and deliver it to you. She was very condescending through this entire conversation. There is no need to talk down to your customers. Again, if it wasn't for our good experience with purchasing and installing, we would give them 0. Oh the installers were great too. read more

A few years ago I met Luke as he was called to service my oven in Mont Vernon. It was not an easy fix. He had to return several times to replace parts. This was purely a service call on appliances that were not purchased at his store. He was friendly and accommodating and tried to save me money with the repair. 3 weeks ago I walked into their store to purchase all new appliances for my new home. Once again I was not disappointed with the service I received. Julien showed me three packages that were in my price range and very competitive with other choices I had. They ended up being better in price and service! Shopping local is good. Even better? Is when local buying is superior to anything else I could have shopped for. Where do I start!! I've been living in Milford over 18 yrs, and all my appliances are Brennan and MacKay. My fridge is 17 years old, downstairs in the rental apartment. My tenant made an appointment, that was good for her, but I was never made aware. The next thing I know is he is knocking at my door. It was not a good time for me, my dog just had surgery shouldn't have gone down the stairs barking at the door, plus he did not have a mask!! I opened the door couple inches. He handed the invoice towards me saying "do you want to pay for this now" ? it was not a good time for me, so I said "no you can leave it downstairs" WELL he had not nice words for me, still muttering as he walked away. He went back downstairs and actually badmouthed me to my tenants saying "this is the first time he has come across the landlord not paying the bill, and he was disgusted at me!! I could hear the loud talking from upstairs. Later I called her as I was planning on taking care of it, I just couldn't at that time. The bill was $190 ... I would have NEVER paid that much for an 17yr old fridge!!!!! When she told me it wasn't working 'again' I actually started looking on marketplace and craigslist. I found a nice 2018 for $275, but just wasn't sure what the issue was going to be. Since the last year I had to put in a new freezer motor, and a new coil something ... with labor they both were a little under, and over $100. I think before repairing an old fridge, which he knew the age because it was theirs , and going to be $190 ... maybe he should've waited for the landlord to be down there!! Actually no matter the cost if it's in a rental the landlord should always be there, I was using this company for over 18 years, they know this is a rental property !! The sad thing is I know this was one of the sons, but the invoice did not have his name on it. I almost called to find out, but I was so upset, then time just went by. read more

Purchased 3 a/cs from Brennan & Mackay (May, 2022) under their assurance that "we're better than impersonal big box stores, we can give you the service only possible with a small family owned operation." Well, despite the installer's claim that they were tested and "they're all working and pushing cold air," one of the a/cs wasn't, and needed to be replaced. I phoned them to pay off my bill, and lobbed a simple softball question at Tommy, the sales person to the effect that "Of course, Brennan & MacKay will stand behind the a/c replacement if it should fail to work, right?" I received a diatribe on how B&M can't keep swapping out units, and how "we're a small family owned operation -- we can't come out for every problem"(! ) -- funny how that "family owned" badge of pride jujitsu-ed into a liability. Both Tommy and then the store manager aggressively talked over me, refused to simply say "we stand behind our products", offering instead "we can't say that, if there's another problem we'll just have to cross that bridge when we come to it!", and finally stated, "can't talk anymore, we've got to get back to covering the floor." Never have I so swiftly been reversed from a "valued customer" (at time of purchase) to a consumer nuisance once the product had been paid for. I would NOT recommend these folks; I do NOT feel confident in their business integrity nor service reliability. What a disappointment. Go elsewhere. read more

I went with Brennan & MacKay because I had heard they were a good family business, and provided good service. I ordered three appliances, which took quite a bit of time to receive due to the pandemic. This, of course, was not their fault; simply the times we're living in. After six months I finally received all three appliances, however, they never called me once for any of them; rather, I had to call them every month and a half or so. Disappointing. I spoke with men (gentlemen actually) for the first two appliances; they didn't try denying or making excuses for not calling. They were professional, apologetic and honest, which was appreciated. We scheduled the deliveries and all was well. When I called for the last appliance, I had the misfortune of speaking with a woman who said she had called me several times to let me know the appliance had arrived, had left messages, etc. I asked what number she called as I had never received any calls from Brennan & MacKay, or the messages she claimed to have left. She was defensive, rude and condescending, but I let it go. We scheduled a delivery appointment and the delivery was made. However, a piece to the appliance was missing. The delivery man told me he would let "them" know, and that someone would call me. A week and a half later I had not heard back, so I called and again had the misfortune of speaking to the same woman. Her behavior was as nasty as I've ever experienced with a service provider. Family or not, if it were my business I'd be sure to keep her away from paying customers. Going forward I'll look for another appliance provider. read more

I found this to be a positive experience! They were professional, came out the next day, prompt to arrive at time specified, and had me fixed up and continuing my laundry chores in no time!! Brennan & Mackay recently installed a double wall oven for us at a competitive price. The installation was tricky due to the configuration of the kitchen, but they put it in with no problems. They went over and above what was expected of them by adjusting to our last minute appointment time change and working on one of the hottest days of the year. We have purchased all of our appliances from them over the years, and they have always done a stellar job for us. I liked that they did not push for us to buy an extended warranty - they mentioned that it was available, but they recommended not buying it for this particular appliance since it is very reliable. One other thing about them is that they are very financially supportive of the local community, but they don't toot their own horn about that. read more

7 years ago I bought a complete kitchen suite. The stove wouldn't go past pre-heat and the service technician found that a small plastic piece was not removed when they installed it. Then they charged me for the service call!? More recently my refrigerator stopped working and they wouldn't service it because I did not purchase it there. I understand that, but they need to understand if they won't service my existing appliance I won't be purchasing anything from them. As it turns out the refrigerator starting working again which only makes me more nervous! I plan on purchasing a new one tomorrow. Obviously not from Brennan & Mackay. read more

Following an investigation by the fire marshal, local licensed contractor and the propane company into a dryer fire in my home we discovered Mr. Brennan had installed the incorrect vent for my propane dryer. The vent was the cause of the fire. We were lucky to be home at the time and other than the loss of the appliance we had very little damage. Mr. Brennan arrived at my home and was very rude and disrespectful. He did not take responsibility (despite his name and signature on the receipt) or offer to replace the ruined item. He told me he's installed plenty of the same vents and they are fine, that it doesn't matter if they aren't up to code or that installing them voids the warranty on the dryer. I would not trust this company to install any appliance or repair any existing appliances in my home. Furthermore, if you have a propane dryer installed by Brennan and McKay PLEASE check your dryer vent. REPLACE the vent if it is the flexible crinkley silver type, it is a fire hazard. read more

Went it, told them I wanted a cheap washing machine. I was showed to base model, did a quick google search and saw it was the same at Lowes & Home Depot, set up free delivery & $10 removal of my old machine, and was out in five minutes. Only reason it's not a five star review is that I was charged for new hoses once the washer was installed. Our fabulous Blue Star stove stopped working at 4:30pm the day before Thanksgiving. At 4:50, with five unbaked pies, a 22 pound turkey and every other thing you'd want on Thanksgiving needing to be cooked, waiting I called on a prayer. Within 30 minutes they were at our house and within an hour the part was replaced and our stove running like its old fabulous self. Hard to imagine anyone else would have come in the evening before Thanksgiving 20 miles to save the day. Talk about a fabulous customer loyalty experience. Can't imagine we would EVER buy another appliance from anyone else. I was told that they knew appliances inside and out, that they were responsive, honest and that their prices were surprisingly reasonable. This turned out to be true. Not only that, when I realized that we hadn't used their $20 coupon from the TownPlanner calendar, I mailed it to them anyway and explained that we'd forgotten to use it. I was refused service on a refrigerator that I did not purchase from them today. I was told that they were to busy servicing customers that had purchased from them. What they don't seem to realize is that every customer they refuse is a viable prospect (assume the appliance cannot be repaired and may need to be replaced) that will never go to them to purchase any product because of that refusal. The person answering the phone was insistent that I know why she was refusing me. She did not understand that I did not care why. I needed it fixed! If they are that busy, the best thing they could do for their business is hire more service people. read more

Disgusted! My Mother who is 86 years old has done business here ever since they opened almost 40 years ago. She went in a few weeks ago to buy a washer and dryer and was treated with ultimate disrespect. The salesperson talked her into ones she really didn't want. (This was nut about expense). She called and asked to talk to the owner and left a message to have him call. No call. Then she called to return and get something else 4 days after. (There is a 7 business day return policy with a 20% restocking fee). She went in the store to pick out something else and was greeted at the door with "we don't want any trouble ma'am". Seriously? She even said she would get something else etc. nope, they said they would be by asap to get them and not even charge the restocking fee. The female in there also was confrontational with my Mom. This is how you treat smart, sharp 86 year old woman. We and our family will never be doing business here again. The original owner which I believe is the Father was great in the past. Whoever these kids are that took over would not be making him proud and I'm sure he did not get another message for him to call her directly. He also will probably not know about this review or any other. She just wanted to keep supporting the local business but unfortunately we had to go to a big box of which treated her/us with respect and a smile.
