Nathan just saved us $1500. Our check engine light came on, so we called him for an appointment. Not only did Nathan fit us in quickly into an otherwise packed schedule, but when he ran the diagnostics on the car he discovered that we were likely still under warranty for the malfunction that he detected. He then proceeded to spend half an hour of his time looking up the exact details of the warranty coverage for us to make sure we were covered, even going so far as to call the Toyota dealership to verify our coverage for us. He was right, in the end; we were still covered, and after making sure we were set and knew what to do, he sent us on our way -- at no charge -- to get the work done at the dealership. If he had just done it for us, we wouldn't have been the wiser, and it would have cost $1500. As it is...he's made a customer for life. Classy, classy guy. He deserves ten stars! read more

Nate ran some tests and determined the battery needed to be changed and informed me of my options and the best one for me (which was the cheapest option). Nate was very honest after doing a diagnostic on my car and told me straight out that it was a better option to not repair it. Five stars all the way and I have an anecdote to prove it. My Honda Insight broke down on a Saturday night off hwy 17 just outside of Los Gatos. My tow truck finally arrived around 8pm, and I googled to find Nate's, the closest, good sounding hybrid mechanic. Tow truck driver had to drop the car in front of Nate's gate, and I left a message letting Nate know it was there (late Saturday night). Monday rolls around and I get Nate on the phone and he's very accommodating and friendly, and agrees to check out the vehicle that day. I live in Sacramento, but even though the vehicle was non-operational (could barely drive it two blocks), and I didn't want to sink the $$ into a new battery, after diagnosing this and charging a resonable hour's rate, on Monday Nate himself parked the vehicle on the street outside his shop, for me to come pick up. I was unable to come get it that night, so the vehicle was still in a metered spot the next morning (Tuesday). I called Tuesday morning from Sacramento to explain that I would be there asap to pick up the vehicle and Nate said no problem I'VE PUT SOME MONEY INTO THE METER TO MAKE SURE IT WON'T GET A TICKET. Seriously, how is that for customer service? Nate is an absolute gem of a man. I eventually got to Berkeley and dealt with the car, but knowing it was looked after so as not to cause me more tickets/towing/hassle, was a great favor. I came into get my 2008 Toyota Prius looked at after the dealerships could not figure out. My car was having a fuel tank issue where it was accepting less and less gasoline every time I filled up. It came to the point where it only held 5 of the 11 gallons. This was very frustrating because when you have a Prius you don't expect to fill up every 150 miles. Anyway, the dealers could not figure out the issue so I decided to go to a specialist, and that is exactly who Nate is. Nate figured out my issue no problem and was a true professional during the process, something that is very rare today. All in all, Nate is an honest mechanic that offers 5 star service. The labor rates are great and very reasonable. I also felt the waiting room was very nice. They had Peets coffee, and it actually tasted like coffee. It was not watered down like most places. I also liked the fact there was wifi. The wifi was fast and multiple users did not disrupt streaming videos, that is usually an issue for me in public places. Nate is the man! He helped our Ford Escape Hybrid pass the CA smog inspection by finding out what was the problem with our evap system causing a check engine light to turn on. So, I brought my Prius to Nathan after a very frustrating experience with another, more "boutique" garage in Berkeley, and I'm so glad I did. Nathan actually listened to what I had to say and didn't talk down to me. For me, this is a big deal. I'm really, really tired of being given the "dumb woman treatment" by mechanics and other technically inclined types, and even the slightest whiff of condescension raises my hackles and sends me running for the door. I got none of that from Nathan, just straight talk. He advised me on what needed to be done, and was scrupulously ethical all along the way. He even saved me money--it turned out one of the problems was covered by warranty, and after his diagnosis I was able to take my car to the dealer and have that problem dealt with for free!
