Finally, I spoke with the owner for about ten minutes about some survey work I wanted and was quoted a price of $270 - fine. Fast forward, after the "work" was completed I was presented with a bill for $580 including an hour for "consultation". I did not realize giving my name and address and having a brief conversation about surveying my yard would qualify as consulting work. When I balked at paying the trumped up charges, the owner became very angry and then asked, so, well, how much do you want to pay? What a joke. I told him I would pay him what we originally agreed to and asked him, Is this how you treat all your customers? He replied, I don't want you as a customer. There are plenty of honest survey/engineering firms out there that do not run up billable hours - avoid Thompson Farland.
