We live at the top of a hill, and we've all heard water runs downhill so we shouldn't have a leaky basement problem, right? Ha! After watching the (ground level) window well in my front yard fill entirely with water one incredibly rainy day about three years ago when I happened to be in the "cellar," and then let go with all of the water seeping around the frame and down my wall... well I finally understood that damp & musty smell my basement always had. Btw, the spot is not directly under the window but off to the side which is why I always thought water was seeping in through the foundation on the side wall where the stain mostly is (water does move downhill haha). Pioneer Basement responded quickly, gave me several options and quotes, and made financing easy. We decided about two years ago to waterproof only part of the basement since that's the area that is usually damp. We also went with the thermal vapor wrap on that part of the wall, and added the dehumidifier which was optional but recommended. Completely solved our problem - and ended the musty scary haunted basement stink entirely. Fast forward to now. I'm again randomly in the basement (for an internet wiring issue) and notice the absolute faintest but-still-I'm-not-imagining-it damp smell. Yup, after another of the crazy rains we've had this year, and... not at a wall but once again about a foot away from another ground level basement window, a small puddle. Of course, it's at a spot without the drain, sump pump, vapor wrap we'd invested in for part of the basement. Exceptionally poor, slow-to-no response in simply scheduling an appointment. Took the time off of work only to receive a call just before the difficult-to-schedule appointment to inform that the appointment was cancelled, claiming the one person in the entire company who could do this work was out sick. They would not return the (steep, expensive, overpriced) deposit via the card they charged upon our request, instead saying they could send another person same-day as the appointment after all -- despite supposedly having only one staffer specializing in the particular work we had scheduled out sick (the things that make you go hmm...). Gut feeling told me not to trust their work at that point. The company being too cheap to pay the transaction fee to refund the card they charged for the deposit, instead they issued a refund check needing to be cashed at their specific bank. Absolute refusal to refund the card we paid the deposit with. We cashed the check same day, questioning whether the company had even enough cash on hand to refund us (not a joke). Instead of apologizing for the whole miserable ordeal as business and customer service etiquette would dictate, instead they demeaned us for becoming upset over some really seriously bad bad bad customer service. read more

I used pioneer 10 years ago. Never had drop of water in my basement once their system installed. Recently moved. Sump system in house useless water in the basement. Called pioneer they installed a new system, dry since!! Customer service is excellent, they have not changed in 10 years! From speaking with the office, Nathan the salesperson, installers of system, all so knowledgeable! I recommend anyone who gets water in the basement to go with Pioneer, hands down. May 21, 2023 I wanted to write and thank Pioneer Basement for standing by your warranty. Thirty years ago, I purchased a lifetime warranty for my basement system, and you came in after the system failed and not only fixed the problem; you replaced the entire system with the latest technology at no charge to me. I must say that was amazing! I was anticipating difficulties given the age of the system and changes in ownership, but you really stepped up. We really appreciate it given what we were going through with the other issues we experienced. The new system has been fantastic and has completely addressed the problems for us. Things happen but it's the service and support after buying a product that separates good organizations from bad organizations. Great organizations can only be great with good people, and I'd like to recognize Michael Oliveira's for his outstanding support and service. Classic small time operation despite the 'Pioneer Basement' name. I've had nuisance leaks in a small area of my basement for years. Finally called for a quote and had to wait 6 weeks for the 'honor' of a visit. The contractor immediately provided an extensive, 'over the top' sump pump system around $18k. When I subsequently asked questions, the contractor agreed we didn't need 'all that'. So we agreed on the work to be done, I offered to provide the required 30% deposit (even though I was gonna have to wait ANOTHER 3 months). Since then (9/15), my calls/emails have not be returned. They clearly operate to grab the quick buck from unknowledgeable customers or huge water issues. read more

Of all people to get water in their basement, I recently started experiencing water in our gym room after every heavy rainstorm. I took care of getting the water cleaned up and the room dried after the last several rainstorms and decided I needed to get the problem fixed as I knew if the walls kept on getting wet over time we would have a greater issue with mold. I decided to call on a friend and business we have referred for many years to our clients to address the water intrusion issue and figure out a solution. Thinking we may have a crack in the foundation and a potentially costly repair I was pleasantly surprised at what the issue was and a quick fix to the problem so I am sharing this post to save others from possibly the same issue. The problem was that over the last 7 years after building the house we have been building up the mulch levels around the house and the issue is that the mulch level should be a minimum of 3 inches below the grade of the foundation and so our mulch had built up to the point where it got to the level of where it was touching the siding. Quick fix after the ground thaws out is to dig the mulch back away from the hone and it should stop the water intrusion. Beware of the upselling tactics to increase the commission checks! Don't be fooled and over-sold on what you don't need, portentially introducing more issues later on. During the rainy season this year we had a first-time issue with water dripping in around the water main from the street. Most contractors I spoke with said it was a minor issue that would require an expoy injection to repair - generally around $500-600 to fix. My sales rep from Pioneer came out, orginally said it was an epoxy injection fix, but needed to take pictures and "confirm the fix with operations." He emailed a few hours later and suggested operations decided the only fix they could do was to put in a water collection grate, plus epoxy, now running $650. When I asked about warranty or guarantees against damage or poor workmanship I then received a price of $1,650, which included a sump pump system. They wouldn't do the work otherwise. Shady sales practices in my opinion. I made the mistake of calling them during the busy rainy season so they knew they could easily maximize their revenue while installing WAY more than I would ever need. IF I said no, which of course I did, they have plenty of desperate homeowners in line to prey on. read more

This company is amazing! Very helpful customer service. The contractors are very nice and considerate. My basement flooded last March so I took my tax refund money and put it to good use. I made an appointment for a free estimate. The price they quoted me was way less then I thought. It was under $2000. They came in, put down the rolls of paper so they don't track up your floor and after the jack hammering and installing their own patented french drain system my basement has not leaked since. A note of caution to anyone thinking of working with this company. We experienced a basement flood a little over a year after Pioneer installed an expensive pump system in our home. It turns out that the pumps were faulty and failed. To our great disappointment, Pioneer has responded by pointing out the limits of their liability; their insurer covers only installation problems not equipment malfunction. They've offered only to sell us additional expensive equipment at a discount. We are left completely on our own with a devastating bill for over $20,000 in flood damage. I am pretty tired of their sales tactics. They were at my house six months ago to service my pump system and everything seemed fine. Recently my battery backup started alarming so I called them to take a look. The technician told me it could be the battery or the charger, but I would have to replace both, to the tune of $500. Then they charged me another $99 for the service call. Then he told me that my pump was coming to the end of its life, and it would cost me another $500 to replace it. I always get the feeling that the technicians are told to push repairs on customers. When my pump does go, I think I will look elsewhere. read more

From start to finish my interaction with Pioneer was a very positive experience. Melissa set up my initial consultation, she was very polite and professional. Nick was the Project Manager who came out for the free estimate. He was polite, professional and was NOT pushy. I am one of those customers who does his homework ahead of conversations with contractors, and I like to ask a LOT of questions. Not only to learn from their experience and make a more informed decision, but also to gauge whether or not they have my best interests in mind. Nick was obviously well versed and wanted to understand my needs. We discussed a whole range of options. He was able to easily build the quote in front of me using a tablet. At first I said no to a few "bells and whistle options", he gave no push back whatsoever, I ended up adding some of them back in after all. The tablet was also useful as he had pictures from other recent installations to show examples of different setups. Before the install, I contacted him for a question, he responded promptly. The installation team showed up on time. They had three guys. They were quick and efficient. They were polite. They had obviously reviewed the job sheet prior to arrival and were ready to go upon arriving. They cleaned up after themselves. Had major issues in my mothers house since it was built in the early 50's, to the point where the cellar was pretty much unusable..everything stored down there turned to mold and mildew. Installed a drainage system shortly before the major storms and flooding in 2010...not a drop of water then or since..totally transformed the basement into great dry storage...might even put a room down there! Pioneer Basement was very helpful both over the phone and in person with answering questions about why our existing sump pump system (put in by the former homeowner using another company) wasn't working properly and what could be done to fix it both short and long term. Throughout the work, they were professional and hardworking. Not only does everything seem to be working properly now, but the areas where they had to disturb the lawn to run new pipes underneath were replaced so carefully that you'd never even notice if you didn't know where the work was done. read more

My basement leaked at the bulkhead during heavy rain. I was torn between using Pioneer Basement and Basement Technologies. Pioneer's estimate came in at about 50% less expensive than Basement Technologies and I was impressed with Pioneer Basement's salesman. He had a very helpful demeanor and apparent knowledge of basement waterproofing, so I went with Pioneer. Although Pioneer eventually fixed my water problem (with emphasis on eventually), I am less than satisfied with their service. The workmen who arrived bad mouthed the salesman and essentially told me that the salesman had lied to us and didn't know what he was talking about. They installed a moisture barrier where there was no moisture and had to return later to install it in the right place. Then they installed a drain on the wrong side of the door which had to be jackhammered and removed at a later date (I had to use yet another vacation day)and then moved to the proper side. I was also sold two very expensive dehumidifiers when, after the fact, I came to realize that I only needed one. I was definitely over-sold. The main office hounded me for payment even though the job had not been finished. The salesman finally intervened and we got back on track. However, I will not use Pioneer again and will not recommend them to others. read more
