Not like some of those other dojo's who just give you the black belts for showing up. You need to work for it. You need to show that you are respectful, and True. I can keep going on and on! To train with real Shaolin Master, captain of Shaolin Temple Performance Team side to side and to watch him going over the movements is unforgettable experience. Don't get me wrong, it's a hard work /that what kung fu means, hard work/, the warm up is like a bootcamp , cool down is another one , but you will definitely get in shape you've never been in and maybe loose few pounds. Although Kung Fu did helped me to learn some self defense, but it's mostly motion movements. I would recommend who is really into martial arts but I'm personally into more self defense techniques which wasn't shown up in Kung Fu.

I've gone through the pain management program at MarionJoy three times to no avail. Some of their docs really tried to help, others not so much. I've been to most if not all of the major pain specialists in the Chicago area, as well as several out of state, including Mayo Clinic. Tried every non-invasive procedure I could find (I wasn't a candidate for most surgical options): acupuncture, acupressure, chiropractic, various shots, etc. On a good day (once every month or two) I could go grocery shopping, but would be exhausted afterwards. Needed a cane for the past decade if I was going to walk more than 15-30 minutes. Walked like an 80-year-old most of the time. Everything took effort. Then I started at UMA for Qigong with Grand Master McGee. I've still got a ways to go, but have made vast improvements. I can go shopping most any time now, errands aren't usually a big deal, and I can usually cook once a day. Able to be more social, can sit and talk with company without too much discomfort, where it used to be completely exhausting. Haven't used the cane since. In short, I'm feeling human again. Grand Master McGee as well as the other students are a big part of that. Self-defence hasn't been a priority for me, but I'm learning quite a bit in addition to getting me healthy. I'm able to do most of what the rest of the class does, which I honestly didn't think I'd ever be capable of. Grand Master McGee really knows his craft.

The owners & staff are both very professional, respectful and highly skilled. They have a great balance in knowing how to encourage and help the students really excel. Our kids feel like they are part of a team. The environment is hard to beat - the staff sets the tone and other students (children, teenagers and adults) are friendly and encouraging. I notice the more experienced students are happy to share with the new students. I recommend World Martial Arts Academy for any age, gender or skill level. There are opportunities to compete. We've also hosted a family birthday party here, which was a blast. The kids and the adults learned new things and had a great time. I hope to do it again.

Master Troy and Gloria teach the Heritage style of Tai Chi, which goes all the way back to Zho Bao town in the 1600's, and focuses on Tai Chi for health. Master Troy knows and has practiced other styles, and will occasionally explain how a move is done differently in the Yang style, for instance. Or the Cheng Man-ch'ing style. This is one of the ways he keeps things interesting, and I find it also helps to understand and appreciate the nuances of our style. The COVID lockdown and social distancing requirements have been a problem for everybody, but Master Troy and Gloria have done a great job of adapting. They quickly figured out how much could be done over Zoom, and how best to adapt their classes to it, so as to still keep things interactive: not just a Tai Chi video lesson. Now they are transitioning back to in-person instruction with hybrid classes: with both some attending in-person and some participating remotely, as one wishes. I can't imagine anyone handling this any better.

Ramy took time with each lesson, and each attendee and wasn't just amazing in his practical approach to self defense, he worked with each person in the class and heard their stories of how they had been targeted, listening and providing matter of fact advice. What was crucial was at the same time as the practical self defense, the owner was incredibly emotionally present and able to somehow empower the folks who had previously been attacked or targeted, simply by being empathetic. This is a coach and staff who truly care about their students mental health and safety.
