I always complained that there's really nowhere hyper local to get ski attire whether for actual skiing or after ski. I found just the place during Lakewood Chocolate Walk - Geiger's! AMBIANCE: Standalone store in downtown Lakewood that's apparently been part of the community since 1932 (wow!) For being such a longstanding retail space it's surprisingly modern. It really reminds me of Eddie Bauer's. The store has multiple rooms of outdoor attire. MERCHANDISE: Most of the attire (predominantly women's and children's) looks like chic athletic-ish attire to wear around Lakewood. Faux fur vests are especially soft and high quality. There is an entire room of skiing gear - skis, ski goggles, and sweaters with ski landscapes. There's also a pretty expansive selection of children's attire. You'll find popular brands like Patagonia and Yeti, and also less known brands. Prices are mostly what you'd expect at a high-end department store. SERVICE: The service at the store wasn't too attentive. Employees were a bit awkward with client interactions. Perhaps because it was busy. Check out this store if you are looking for winter attire like coats, chunky sweaters, gloves, and hats. There are plenty of choices here. I'll come back when I have more time to browse the coat inventory.

When I think of Cuyahoga Collective, I think of a more upscale version of Cleveland and Ohio themed merchandise. From beautiful art to clothing and home decor, for me, this is the pinnacle of a Cleveland themed store. They carry unique themes of local pride amongst the merchandise. For example, as of December 2020 they have a super cute Parks collection portraying nature gems. You can even find coffee, cigars and jewelry. They are always changing their merchandise out and always have sales online and in their immaculately organized store. Seriously, this place just makes me so happy! I'm always drawn to their art though, which is modern, sleek and makes reference to Cleveland history. As a boater, I've loved buying different nautical themed items here. From "Don't Give Up The Ship" mugs and stickers to sailing art prints, I've bought several lovely gifts here for other boaters and sailors in my life. You can always count on the Cuyahoga Collective for a beautiful, classy and well-presented gift that celebrates local while supporting local! They will not disappoint you!

But after seeing their posts on IG, I decided to give it a try, and I'm so glad I did! First of all, they're both so nice and genuinely enthusiastic about what they do. They did an amazing job helping me find the hat that felt right for me, asking thoughtful questions about my style and what I was hoping for. I ended up going with a private label open crown, but honestly, they have so many incredible options that I feel like everyone can find something there. After we found the right fit and talked through the crown style I wanted, Brad steamed and shaped the hat, making adjustments until it was exactly what I was imagining. Then Shay helped me decide on decoration options. I had brought in a special pin that I wanted to incorporate and she was awesome, suggesting ways to make it work with the overall design. Then came one of my favorite parts - choosing the feathers! They have so many beautiful options. I spent way too long deliberating (they were so patient with me) and finally settled on three gorgeous ones. I wear my custom hat all the time now, I love having something that's completely unique to me. And the whole experience felt so personal and tailored, you can tell they really care about making sure people leave feeling confident and happy with their purchase. And in terms of value, they carry well-made, good quality hats that will last you many years, can handle most weather, and are priced fairly for what you are getting. If you're on the fence or think you're "not a hat person" like I did, definitely give them a try!

The only entrance is through La Mocha Essentially, the two are sister businesses. I never heard about Uptown Vintage, but I never say no to vintage adventure. And so, I checked it out. INVENTORY: One small storefront filled with predominantly household goods and furniture. The inventory is probably 1960's to current time. There are a few clothing items - men's jerseys and baseball hats (like Hooters hat). The space is filled with textures like wicker, knits, and ceramics. There are a few unique pieces like African sculptures and few gorgeous vases. Other than that, I found the inventory to be pretty overplayed. The prices were considerably higher compared to other shops in Lakewood and Cleveland. For instance, wicker fish was $60, and emerald velvet bench was $300. The store accepts Afterpay unlike other similar businesses. SERVICE: The service was okay, pretty transactional. I appreciated that help was offered with shopping. PARKING: There is no dedicated parking lot but street and meter parking is aplenty in this part of Lakewood. Stop in if you're in the mood to check out vintage with coffee in hand. The store was not for me due to pricing and me preferring vintage from earlier time periods. Still, I can see how someone can find unique home decor here.
