I had my transmission replaced at a cost of $4,500. One year and three months later, it was out of warranty and leaking transmission fluid.

Called these folks as the dealership says they wont rebuild a driveline component on my vehicle…read more(they only replace entire assembly) and therefore I would have to pay them thousands$$$$ Discussed that we already knew what needed to replaced (bearings/seals only) and that folks are even doing this themselves and showing such on youtube...figured this shop would easily be able to handle this but I got the exact same answer as the dealership: replace a $3k+ assembly that needs $100 worth of parts. Not sure why I'd do business here as I can get that answer anywhere.

Ok. So, that tranmission thing is important. If you don't check on it every year, the fluids and…read moreall that jazz, it could go very wrong and if your tranmission blows, it can cost a whopper to fix. So we must be preventative. But I'm the luckiest girl in the world. My Dad maintains my car for me. He winterizes it. He has a solid relationship with a local mechanic when the job is more complicated then he can do (and my Dad can do A LOT!). My Dad's work is basically fixing up cars and selling them. He knows cars. And my whole family drives 90's vehicles (we're old school!). But we take a lot of pride in our cars! My Dad uses National Transmission. So I use National Tranmission. Now that I'm a big girl, I take my car there myself. I call them up and usually talk to the ever-pleasant Brock at the beginning of the week. I say I need to have my transmission serviced. Usually they do it on Wed, Thurs or Fri morning, I think. Or maybe that's when you can get fit in easily. Usually it'll be at 9 or 10 AM. They need it for a good 1-1.5 hours. So I drop it off, walk into Kensington for a coffee, return and Voila! Magic. Done. Reasonable. Friendly. You certainly don't have to fear looking after your car with places like this. My Dad trusts them and my Dad knows cars so I feel good in recommending this location!

Zero star review. Took my suv in as it was having difficulty down shifting. Shop diagnosed it not…read moreto be transmission-related but cylinder misfires. Accepted their offer to do the non-transmission related repairs (change spark plugs) at a cost of $700. Problem was not solved and engine continued to misfire. I brought it back in to give them a chance to "make it right". They did not apparently QC the original work, did other work, and that cost me another $800 that was only peripherally related to the original diagnosis. I am now out $1500 and the engine continued to misfire, after which I brought it into my regular mechanic. They qc'ed the original work and found two broken and two loose spark plugs, confirming that the original work was defective in terms of parts and installation. I provided an opportunity for the owner at Mister Transmission Kris Carlson on many occasions to make it right - that is my biggest issue in that he accepted zero responsibility or accountability for any of the faulty work done in his shop. He did not respond to my BBB complaint, would not respond to my several phone calls or subsequent emails. Complete lack of business integrity. AMVIC process appears equally ineffective. Every shop tech or mechanic can have a bad day. The zerostar review is based solely on the subsequent avoidance of the owner to take accountability for defective parts and service, AND the subsequent additional service and parts that did nothing to fix the original problem and was not needed. Please be wary of this business if dealing with them.
