The only time I had an issue was when I first started making my schedule was that I was by the college counselor would transfer when I found out a few weeks into class they wouldn't. When I first picked my classes out I wanted to select the advanced photography class to learn more about lightroom and Photoshop. Beginning photography was a prereq but could be skipped due to prior experience (Freelance photographer for 6 years). I got the waiver paperwork filled out and emailed the dean of the department but never heard back. (It may have been too late as it was just a few weeks prior to the start of class) Otherwise this is a great place to finish core classes before transferring and it's cheap as well, I would definitely recommend SCC to someone that is looking for certificates or looking to learn something different.

I can't use their pool even tho my taxes paid for it & I want to take classes for fun but the application process is daunting. It's expensive to attend & amenities are low. The on campus daycare doesn't match the class schedule so it's useless to me. The catalog keeps changing so am worried that even though I follow it, I could end up short of credits at graduation time. Overall, you need more staff to help folks navigate services.

Not even a month into it and I was regretting and dragging my feet to in everyday. My 1st instructor taught use more about his personal life then the actual subject. Didnt follow the way he was supposed to teach us whiched caused a big issue for those who were going to go into the next class. He passed everyone regardless. Had a motor project and passed us all even though none of us got the motor to work. He didnt really even try to get it running. You don't learn in the traditional way. You don't learn from A-Z. They will throw you in wherever the class is currently at. So you maybe learning the very end of the book before you even learn the beginning of the book which is bad if you are completely new to the subject and don't have any knowledge or experience. You don't jump into HVAC right away which is normal. You'll be doing electrical theory but my instructor didn't even go over HVAC electrical. I was learning more how to be an electrician then HVAC technician. Once I got into HVAC I was told in was going to take my certification test at the end of that month. Which is beyond stupid. They gave me a study packet to help prepare me for the test. By the time I had to take the test I failed of course but wasnt worried. Was told i had 3 attempts to take the test. The very next day after I took the 1st test i was told to take it again, and again I failed. The day after the 2nd test I was told to take it again and use the study packet because the head of the campus wants us to pass. Probably to give him a bonus or something like that. Well I'm not going to pay them to cheat on my future. I tried to talk them but the head of the campus "wasn't in today". I tired to call and kept going in to talk to him about why they wanted me to cheat. But kept getting the same response. I called them and told them I was dropping out because the cheating was the last straw. Then it seemed like they actually cared about my problem. I finally got calls back from the school and told them why I was leaving but the lady seemed not to really be paying attention and wanted me to go in and sit down with the head of the campus. I wasn't going to waste my time with them anymore. Said in was going to go in but didn't. I told them about it and they didn't seem to care until I left.

Extremely antiquated environment full of staff that are unqualified, discompassionate, AND uneducated about psychological and learning disabilities. WHICH IS THEIR ENTIRE ROLE. The only thing they can seem to enforce is extra test time---which you have to jump through hoops to schedule. This is another barrier for someone with any disabilities that affect executive functioning. The ASC is responsible for advocating for students and finding an equitable way for them to keep up with their classmates, yet is useless when handling unaccommodating professors. The judgment I've faced here by trying to find reasonable accommodations is inane. Why are you being sassy and argumentative with me when I'm asking for help? A high EQ should be mandatory for a role that involves supporting a community that is highly vulnerable to discrimination. The "Accessibility Services Center" is also incredibly disorganized and frequently don't respond to emails. I have to hound them for updates, which is difficult for a student who is already trying to manage their hectic life. They don't seem to be the most cognitively sharp when trying to "help" disabled students, nor well-versed in Section 504 of the ADA... which should be a basic requirement. I know more about my rights than this place knows left from right. The amount of times I've had to repeat a large swath of information from one person [who promised to relay info] to the next that had seemingly no idea what was going on is ridiculous. I've run into multiple people who interrupted me, spoke over me, or made an underhanded remark at the expense of my abilities. I can't tell if Solano is just hiring people off the street to staff the ASC or what. I had a phone conversation with an older woman from the ASC who was supposed to help me formulate a plan to get back on track with school, and she had no advice that couldn't be applied to a neurotypical student. When I mentioned the barriers I face, she gave a long pause and stated flatly that I should "prioritize the class" and "study more". Why didn't I think of that? I could get better advising from a stranger on Omegle. Horrific experience. 1/10

Shame on you, employment director! The current employment director needs to be let go (or be fired) and be replaced with someone who actually cares for people's health and their schedules! When I asked them to not go to confirm with them, they said "the goal is to come for 10 mins. We can stand by the entrance and at the 10 min mark I'll check in." Shame you on you! Richie and Ashley from Career services were a big help throughout the program, and were super fast at responding when I had questions. I felt that I learned a lot from my on campus teachers/mentors Ms. Crain, Ms. Oliver, and Ms. James, as well as from my online experience with Ms. Dori and Ms. Kaur. They took their time in explaining each subject in depth so that we could understand. They definitely have prepared me for the medical field. This program was absolutely worth it and I see myself going back to Unitek in the future to further my education.

First of all I would like to say, if you got a scholarship through Futuro with Kaiser and you get in this program planning on ever working at Kaiser when you get out, just please delete that idea from your mind. That's the whole reason why I took this course through Futuro, come to find out at extern time, Kaiser isn't even contracted with Unitek or Futuro (make it make sense) to do your extern there so right there my whole plan of getting an extern at Kaiser and hopefully landing a job there after graduation was just shattered!!! instead, I was constantly offered an extern making it seem like DaVita was the only option. DaVita has a huge turn around hiring rate for extern with Unitech so it makes the school look really good as if their program graduates get hired quickly after completion. Which they do at DaVita if you want an $18-$20 an hour pay rate and absolutely not doing any medical assisting at all while you're there, so it just completely ruins everything that you learned in the medical assisting program. Not to mention, I was there for seven months and we had five different teachers.. again make it make sense? We will learn things from one teacher, and then all of a sudden they would leave, and the new teacher that came in would tell us we were doing things incorrectly and we would have to relearn some of the things over to the new teachers liking. Bottom line, it is just an extremely unbelievably unorganized program, there is no consistency with teaching, there's no accuracy as far as what we learned because the next teacher will teach us a different way, and the online teacher that I had was just absolutely terrible. She would explain nothing and dock your grade, you could send her several messages with no response and even when you would reach out to the higher up, they wouldn't even respond back to you, and they were in the same building in Concord! They also left there too by the way and I heard that they had been there for years and got let go. So yah, this program needs to be shut down and then opened up by all new upper hand that actually know what they're doing and how to run a beneficial MA program. I've graduated the program a while back and I still yet to land a decent paying medical assisting job, the highest I've been offered is $20 an hour and honestly if I wanted to, I can go work at target for $22 an hour. In the end, I feel like it was just such a waste of time and I would actually be livid if I didn't go through the scholarship program and get granted to take it, and actually paid the $15,000 out of pocket to take it. What a mess this place is... good luck to all who try it

After doing my research as a diligent pre-med, Touro has an osteopathic medical school with other graduate programs as well. Interested in their school, my friend and I scheduled a shadowing opportunity with their outreach admin/faculty. One of the shadowing opportunities they offer is for the OMM Lab (osteopathic manipulative medicine) where one can sit in their medical school class alongside their real medical students and learn! I shadowed one of their cranial OMM labs, and it was fascinating especially since I was into neurobio/psych. Their professor was very thorough in explaining the various ways on how to locate cranial anatomy and how to connect with the patient. Each student rotated and had a chance to practice OMM and experience it as well. From the time of initial contact to the end of my shadowing, Touro faculty and students were very accommodating and positively receptive. Big shoutouts to my medical student mentors, Jessie and Yvonne, who showed me the ropes and Jessie even performed OMM on me! Great time with wonderful people!

First let me say that I am SO happy that Vallejo has a JC!!!…read more It's conveniently located by the automalls off of the freeway. They don't have a huge campus but it's big enough for me. "40,000 square feet of classrooms, science and computer labs, an auditorium and a mmuli-use facility serving the physical education, dance and theatre programs." You're able to take the assessment tests here on select day and they have the financial aid help here also. You still have to purchase your textbooks at the main campus (Fairfield) bookstore or online @ http://www.solano.edu/bookstore/ I've taken off a star for two reasons. Firstly, the changes made to registering for classes is beyond confusing. It wasn't easy before and now it's so frustrating that had I not figured it out I might have just said forget it and not gone back to school. After tinkering and clicking here and there and demanding to be walked through a couple things over the phone (hehe I'm kinda mean but I need help and I'm not afraid to say it) I was registered for classes and able to figure out what I needed to do to recieve financial aid. Ok, my other gripe.. The soda machine!! I don't drink soda I drink water. I think that BOTH machines should have water available in the case that one stops working (which it did) there will be another machine available to get water from. OR how about the school can equip themselves with a refridgerator stocked with waters to sell to the students to that the school can make a little more money. I was VERY upset when I put my money in the machine (inside the school) and it just took it.. so why I put more money in in the hopes that MAYBE it might give me the water I so desired I have no idea.. And when I asked about it I was told that an "out of order" sign was being printed as we spoke. I asked for compensation and I was told there was nothing that could be done. I suggested that when the company comes to fix it maybe they could set aside a few waters for those of us who wasted our money in there and I could recieve a voucher.. no such luck. I was told I should write a letter but instead I figure I can bring my own water. Soda isn't assisting the american obesity problem but I'm only a student so what do I know?

However, there are some major administrative and counseling bottlenecks that desperately need to be addressed. First, the certificate processing timeline is incredibly frustrating. Even if you have completed all the required courses numerous semesters prior, you are left waiting for more than 4 months just for a Certificate of Achievement to be processed. For students trying to jump into the workforce or move forward with their careers, this kind of delay is unacceptable. Second, dealing with the counseling department can be a real headache. Many of the counselors seem to have very little knowledge about specific program requirements, and you often get the run-around when you're simply trying to get clear answers to achieve your educational goals. You really have to do your own heavy lifting and research to make sure you're on the right track. I want to love SCC, but the school really needs to step up its administrative efficiency and better train its counseling staff to support students who are doing the work to graduate.
