YUMMM!! I can't believe it's taken us this long to finally try out this place. Totally worth it. We came in for the lunch hour and it was empty. Shocking! But good for us to have such a pleasant experience all to ourselves. We ordered the chicken tikka masala lunch special, butter chicken lunch special, lamb chops, and garlic naan. They gave us fluffy butter naan as well and I think I liked that one more because of how fluffy it was! We cleaned the entire table up because it was too good not to finish in one sitting. Sadly, I had my last meal here. The food was tasty as always (though portions are not generous -- my chicken dish was a bowl with a lot of sauce but little chicken). The problem was a mandatory 25% tip. I generally tip a minimum of 20% at sit-down restaurants, but 25% HERE? First, service at Natkhat Flavors has always been poor. It's a small restaurant, never crowded when I visit, but you have to hunt down the server for a glass of water or a napkin beyond your allotted ONE. Second, WHAT "SERVICE"? You order through your cellphone (via QR code) and you settle your bill the same way, so you see the server exactly twice, briefly: once to bring your food and once to take it away. You will pack your own leftovers. Third, 25%? I don't believe this goes to the server. This is a price increase disguised as a tip. To the proprietor: if you want to raise prices, do that -- don't sneak in this charge. I don't remember seeing anything about a mandatory 25% fee on my phone (there is no printed menu) -- the fee appeared when I closed out my bill. If there was a way to remove or change the "tip" I didn't see it, and others won't see it either. You're dealing with a website, not a person, so there's no chance to object until after the fact. Sad. I'll get my butter chicken at Central Market from now on. read more

Worst Indian Food Experience - Frozen & Oily This was honestly one of the worst indian food experiences we've had. Most of the food tasted frozen, reheated, and swimming in oil. Nothing felt fresh or made to order. What we ordered: Kids Especial - $6.60 Dal Tarka (GF, V) - $12.60 (bland, watery, oily) Cumin Rice - $4.75 (dry and flavorless) Plain Basmati Rice - $3.68 (stale and clumpy) Tawa Roti - $3.14 (cold and rubbery) Chicken Afghani (GF) - $13.99 (greasy with no flavor) Samosa Chat - $7.50 (better of the lot) Garlic Naan - $3.68 (chewy and clearly not fresh) Chicken Changezi (GF) - $13.99 (excess oil, tasted frozen) For the amount charged, this was completely unacceptable. Definitely worth a stop between Austin and San Antonio for traditional Indian food with a "dance on the taste buds!" Atmosphere is casual as is service, but exciting options are abundant. Upon seating, Pappadums (like an Indian tortilla chip with cumin seeds) served warm from the oven - puffed and delicately crisped. I was thrilled by the Samosa Chaat - a flavor/texture explosion of curried potato, raisins, peas, and crusty bits perfectly spiced with a touch of cinnamon. The Aloo Paratha is great for kids & adults (although note cilantro yogurt dip is Texas spicy!), like an Indian quesadilla filled with herbed potatoes. Every time we have been here I have been blown away. The food is amazing, I specifically love the butter chicken and Tula masala! The owners are so kind. Most recently I had the mango lassi and man, it hit the spot! I absolutely love supporting this business. Only 4 stars because I wish their menu had a little more on it. Other than that the place is well decorated, friendly staff, amazing owners, local and they have live music on Saturdays! It was a little different for ordering but I didn't mind it, you scan the QR code, make your order and pay all on your phone before you eat or after all depends on you. Everyday they have new dishes on the menu as specials besides the traditional dishes, they also allow to you sample small samples to see if it's something you may like that you may have never heard of or tried before. Very odd visit! Let me start off that the owners are THE sweetest people you would come across. Food was good and flavorful. But here is where they fell short! First off what made it an odd visit was the waitress. I'm assuming her name is Soniya T as the receipt states. She comes off rude. No menus, must scan the code.l(Covid is over) Very confusing menu and she was not of much help. No menu item comes with anything not even rice. For the price, it should. Also not one menu item was as shown in the pic. For instance, naan bread shows 3. Only 2 came. Lamb chops shows 3 on a bed of lettuce tomato and onion, it only came 2pcs on a plain plate for 17.99 and was rubbery and full of fat. That's a joke, right? All the entrees we ordered were small portions, Did not equal the price paid. The chips that is put on the table were like 3-4 small pieces. (2ppl) was tasty but to ask for more was a sin. To order rice was almost $5.00 for a very small cup. My husband asked her for more napkin and she comes back with only 1pc! . But here is the kicker, we couldn't see the bill until we paid. After learning there was an Indian restaurant in Dripping Springs I just had to try it. I lived in Ealing in the west part of London, England and there was an Indian restaurant on every corner. The food at Natkhat is pretty great. Nothing to complain about at all. We have only ordered takeaway and each time it's been a correct order and a decent portion. I get the butter chicken and it's very good. We did get the garlic naan and it was soggy and not the greatest so we took off a star for that - I'm willing to bet though, if I ate it at the restaurant and not takeaway it would be better so once we eat it here they'd earn that last star! This location has a homey feel to it. Everything from the friendly owner to the cozy food makes this dining experience enjoyable. As I said the food is delicious. It is flavorful, filling, and overall simply delicious. Of course, there were plenty of vegetarian options on the menu. My only complaint about this location is the service. The owners were incredibly friendly (as I mentioned before) but seated outside, my family and I were rarely given refills and did not receive any service other than being given our meals. My dad and I eat Indian cuisine every chance we get, and found this restaurant through yelp on vacation. The atmosphere and employees were all welcoming. I can only base my review on what we ordered, and that was the "Palak Paneer." A dish I frequently order at my favorite local restaurant. This was extremely disappointing and bland. It was lacking the spices that Indian cuisine is famously known for. On top of that, it was served cold to us, and the oils separated. The samosas were also a bit doughy in the folds, and we did not know they were Not made-to-order. They are made ahead of time and sit in a countertop warming display. We visited recently from Houston, and from the outset we were impressed at their care - while the menu accuracy is certainly not perfect for the following, they still took time to list many dietary restrictions on their menu, and the owners were readily able to answer specifics/guide for good alternatives. Couple that with the welcome pappadams and we were already feeling encouraged. My wife and I got the Tadka Dal and Meal Plate with Baignan Bharta and Roti (heads up the meal plate means smaller portions of each if that wasn't obvious), and I got the Achari Chicken with a side of Jeera Rice after they flagged the Rogan Josh had yogurt. While the Tadka Dal was a little plain for us since we also make it, I'm still raving about the smoky flavor of their Baignan B (nicely balanced, strong flavors all around, spice enough for me without also making me a widower). And while the gravy on the Achari Chicken was nicely robust, we loved how knowledgeable the owners were about their cuisine - good recommendations on other flavors for next time, ideas in how we could do similarly in our own kitchen, and generally made the meal warmer for their inclusion. This is hands down the best Indian food I've ever had. The quality of the meat is outstanding, and you can really taste the difference. The owner prepares everything fresh in small batches each day, and her pride in her dishes shines through in every bite. The owners are incredibly welcoming, treating every guest like family, which makes the experience even more special.
