10/28/23 1PM. DISCOVERY TOUR We've been to many caves throughout the country. This was the first cave that we experienced humidity versus it being cooler throughout our descent into the cave. There are quite a few diverse formations throughout the cavern and it is not isolated to one particular area. Beautiful. Beautiful. Beautiful. STEEP is the word the guide mentioned over and over again...and IT IS! If you have asthma or other medical problems be prepared. The path is quite wet and using the guard rails is a must. There was an older woman that almost didn't make it. I could see if you have a toddler and you need to carry them, you'll feel it if you're not in shape. The guide did assess everyone throughout to see if they were all right. There are no restrooms on the approximately 1 hr tour. As we made our way out there was a water fountain that you could taste the cavern water. GUESTS: Please be mindful of others in your group. You're asked to stick together, There are photo opportunities for your group to take a few pics...but not a photo shoot. Then everyone gets a chance. You have to be quick as there's usually another group right behind you. TALKING should be kept at a minimum so everyone can hear the guide. There were also activities for Halloween where the kids could walk around in their costumes and trick or treat for candy. There was also live music. It was a nice half day visit! read more

I think this was definitely a unique experience. It reminds me of the caves I saw in Cancun. Our tour guide was very nice and the tour was well organized. Since we had a small group, the tour guide even took a lot of pictures of the group. She went through all the history in detail. Only downside is that it's very humid in the caves and can be a little claustrophobic. read more

We really enjoyed the tour! Our tour guide was so knowledgeable about the history of the caverns. Honestly I wish it was longer just so I could spend more time inside the caverns and learning about them. Definitely would recommend since it's a short drive from San Antonio! We paid about $35 per person. Groupon sometimes has deals so I would check that out before buying! Make sure to wear some athletic shoes and bring some water. It's not a difficult 'hike' but there are steep hills and some stairs that may not be ideal for everyone. read more

This was our first time visiting the Natural Bridge Caverns and the experience was truly amazing !! We really felt like "Indiana Jones " or "Aladdin" :D ! We have never seen staligmites and calcified formations quite like these :) ! Initially, when we entered, it was damp and cool inside. But as you walk, you warm up really easily ! We still brought plenty of water to drink in case we got thirsty because you do have to walk quite a bit. There were 2 tours: the Discovery Tour (which was best for first-timers and less physical and strenuous), and the Hidden Passages tour (which was more physical, strenuous and challenging). If you really want to, you can do the combination package, which is both tours. But we just decided to do the Discovery Tour ! If you are strong and much more physically fit, you can see more with the Hidden Passages tour because you can get further into crevices and nooks within the caverns that you can't see with the Discovery Tour. But you have to be able to go down 185 feet and walk all the way back up. My sister was tempted to try the Hidden Passages one . I told her she was more than welcome to! But I know my physical limit all too well and don't want to chance it! I just don't want to get stuck and have to be rescued! Our tour guide, Ryan, was really knowledgeable and made our Discovery tour experience pleasant and memorable :) ! Interestingly, we found out that this past Sun (4/30) when we visited was the last day of the Hidden Passages tour. They are revising it and it is being renamed as the Hidden Wonders tour, which will open May 12 :) . It is pretty much the same tour as Hidden Passages, except the main difference is that the Wonders tour will have an easier exit out of the caverns compared to the Passages tour. Even for the Discovery Tour, certain paths are a little slippery (because of the water dripping from above) and some stairways are steep. You just really have to wear great sneakers or shoes with strong and firm soles, and really hold onto the railing so you don't slip and fall. But quite frankly, if someone unathletic like myself can handle the Discovery tour, anyone can :D ! Outside the caverns, there are also other activities that you can engage in, whether you come solo or in a group. Twisted Trails is practically an outdoor playground for kids and adults to go zip lining ! We also happened to be there during the weekend of the Total Archery Challenge , so we saw a lot of hardcore archerers there as well ! There was a sister and brother musical duet performing, so you can sit back, relax and enjoy some soothing music :) ! There is also a store area where you can pan for gemstones :) ! On your downtime, you can also play bean bag toss! And if you like mazes, you can try to the maze and see if you can figure out how to get to all four posts to spell out the word "calf" :D ! read more

If you're not one to usually visit caves or explore similar structures, I would totally recommend making a visit here! I don't think the tour of the caverns was too strenuous and the guide for my tour was extremely knowledgeable and funny! The tour itself wasn't too long and as someone who doesn't wander into underground spaces or caves often, I was really impressed and intrigued by what I saw so I thought the tour was worth it. read more

Been here a couple of times years apart. They do large group tours and takes about 1 hour to walk through the passages. Very humid, somewhat chilly/cool, but with the ups and downs, some people may need to be in condition to walk these caverns. They're pretty neat to look at, knowing they've bn there for thousands of years is amazing history to partake in. Had lunch before the tour started, they prep food on the spot so be prepared to wait. Also it gets busy. Food took about 10-15 mins to make and it was piping hot. Servers call out the order, they don't bring to your table, fyi. They have a store with all kinds of trinkets and toys. I read about this place in a Thrillist article and while out in TX I decided to make the 4 hour drive up to the San Antonio area to visit. The grounds for the caverns are huge! They have all kinds of stuff there. There is a gift shop of course. A cafe with beer! There is also a small kids amusement park! I went with the package to see both cavern tours on the property. The tour was excellent and a good length! They have cool lighting which the guides can control from their phones. Definitely worth the trip out to see!!! read more

Wow, this place has changed so much in 7-8 years! We were here few years ago there wasn't much to do other than the cave tour. Now they have plenty of activities and couple of tours as well We bought our tickets for discovery tour for saturday at the location, price was same as online. Online there is 4.50 fee you can avoid buying at the location. Maze is 6$ per person if you buy with tour or 12$ later on. We loved the tour, kids enjoyed the maze. Tour gets strenuous as some locations and people with knee troubles should avoid. Overall a great experience! read more

Highly recommend you check this place out. Our guide was super cute and very informative. It took an hour to get through and it went by fast. First cave that I have gone through, and I was amazed by what I saw. You can order tickets ahead of time, we tried as we were getting closer but nothing was available. Thankfully they had groups leaving about every 10 minutes or so so if you don't buy tickets ahead of time, don't fret. They do have a waiting area and some sort of jungle play for the kids as well. Finally made it to Natural Bridge Caverns and did the St. Mary's Adventure Tour which was a great one. I'd highly recommend you do this tour which uses ropes, you get a little muddy and hang over a 30-ft hole. Shoutout to Amy and Zach, the best tour guides, for a wonderful experience! On a trip to San Antonio, we stopped by Natural Bridge Caverns. It's on the outskirts of San Antonio so expect a drive. I've checked out a couple of caverns or caves over the years and it's always a treat. There are a couple of different tours and we purchased tickets for a group of five ahead of time at a specific time slot. Once you arrive, parking is easy. The tour lasted around an hour or so and our tour guide did a great job touching on the history of the caverns, how they were formed, fun facts, etc. Make sure to take pictures while you're there---the caverns are breathtaking. This was one of the most amazing caverns I've been to. I like that it is family owned and operated. I did the discovery tour and that is currently $27-30 depending on what day of the week you go. It's an hour long so I recommend wearing good sneakers. It's about 70 degrees inside the cavern. Our tour guide was very informative and knowledgeable. If you're not in shape, disabled, or an older adult, I would skip this as it can get strenuous at times. If you think you can do it, then all the more power to you. read more

If you're in the San Antonio or Austin area I would recommend driving by and checking this attraction out. The photos don't do this place justice; you have to see first hand of the beauty of the natural underground caverns. For first comers, I recommend the Discovery tour which is a 45 min guided tour into the main parts of the caverns. Temperature inside the caverns is about 70 degrees with 99% humidity, so it feels about 80 degrees, so dress accordingly. You can bring a water bottle inside but no flavored drinks. It can be slippery inside so wear comfortable shoes that have good traction. Your experience also kind of depends on the group you get put into. Our group had some crying babies and people that don't listen to instructions so that ruined part of the tour. read more

Definitely a must see! Very easy to book online, we opted for a combo tour- The Hidden and Discovery Tour. Parking was plentiful, easy, and accessible. The park was well manicured and beautifully landscaped.. just a tip, pls label the plants/trees, I wouldn't mind having some in my garden. One fam member in our group could not attend the tours unfortunately, but they gave us a refund without us even asking. A plus in my book! There are a few gift shops and food/snack stands throughout the park. Waiting areas for the tours have bench seating and large fans for airflow. Noticed a large structure for zip lining etc and a maze - both are extra that you could add to your tours if you wanted. We started off with the Hidden tour. Btw, at the start of each tour, the guide will take photos of your group, which will be up for view/purchase, no obligation, afterwards. Our Hidden guide seemed brand new, she had a little trouble with the material, her mic was not working, and it was hard to hear her unfortunately. The tour was just ok, I think we could have easily gone without booking this tour. Not memorable. We had an hour break before the Discovery Tour. Browsed a gift shop and ate hot dogs : ) The Discovery tour was awesome! Our tour guide was fabulous- I believe his name was Joshua. Lots of amazing and beautiful formations to see on this tour! Book it for sure. I believe it took about an hour and a half. The caves temps are in the 70s - wear cool clothing and good walking shoes. You may, as they say, get a few kisses ( water drops) from the caves as you walk through. Take lots of pics, there are many opportunities. Had a wonderful day exploring! read more

Charging $10 for parking here is ridiculous. The principle is important here, not the measly 10 bucks. This isn't a stadium or a parking garage. It's a parking lot that's already there. Besides, you have no other parking options. It's just one more way for them to "nickel and dime" customers, and it's disgusting if you ask me. The equivalent would be a McDonald's making you pay for parking. Next, the ticket people were rude and acted like you were an inconvenience to their day. I came and did a double combo pack the Discovery and the hidden. The discovery is really all you need. Much to see able to take lots of pictures. Learn a lot about the things inside. The hidden one was absolutely a waste of money it was super short and lots of stairs like lots of steep wet stairs and barley no where to stop and take a break. My boyfriend and I are fans of anything that involves either learning something new and/or doing some physical activity, so this place caught our eye as a place to visit when we were thinking of something to do while we waited for our check-in time for our airbnb. It was def worth it! This place is a little northeast of San Antonio, and going in another pathway actually takes you to the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch. After going down the winding road, you'll reach the parking lot, where there are plenty of parking spots available. When you enter the main entrance, you just need to turn to your left, and the ticket counter is right there. We opted in getting the combo tour, which is the discovery and hidden passages tours together, and it ended up about being $117 for the both of us. They do offer other tours, but some of them are for certain dates so def check on those if you were interested. Both of the tours took about an hour or so each; however, the main difference that I found from the tours was that the hidden passages tour comprises of mostly stairs, so please keep this in mind when choosing. I would also advise to bring comfortable shoes with good traction as the pathways do get slippery. We actually came right after it rained, so there was even more puddles formed during our tour. Luckily, our group didn't have any falls, and both tour guides were informative and accommodating. Both tours were filled with lots of interesting information about how the caverns were formed, and we even got to see some real geology majors from UT collecting samples from the stalagmites and stalactites! They explained how they've been collecting samples to correlate the environment in the cavern to the outside world. read more

Simply stunning. Texas Hill Country has a plethora of caverns and Natural Bridge Caverns is the largest of this bunch in the state. This was discovered by some college kids in 1960 when they asked to explore Mrs. Clara Wuest's land. It's called Natural Bridge Caverns because there is a natural rock bridge above the entrance of the caverns. The Discovery tour covers the first main room discovery and the Hidden Passages tour covers another area that was found later after further exploring. Each tour runs about 45-50 minutes and if you want to do both tours they do put at least a 30 minute break between your two tours. I opted for the combo which included both cavern tours. Allow 2.5 -3 hours if you want to do both tours. Discovery Tour - If you only have time for one tour, do the Discovery tour. It shows you the crawl hole where the guys first squeezed themselves through and has more rooms and runs a little longer than the Hidden Passages tour. What do you need to know? It is hot and a bit humid. It might be 45 degrees outside, but inside the cavern is always hanging around 80 degrees. You should wear good walking shoes, preferably rubber soled. There are some inclines and steps so you will get a little burn in your legs or lungs unless you are a regular hiker. Your guide will explain the history of the caves and give you the creative names of all the different formations (Do you know what a fried egg is?). It is well lit and there are clearly defined paths with handrails. There is always some moisture in the caves and sometimes an active slow drip, so plan your feet protection accordingly. I thought it was all stunning, people of all ages can appreciate this. Hidden Passages Tour - This tour runs maybe 10 minutes shorter than the Discovery tour. Thankfully our guide let us place our jackets down in the hallway before entering the cavern, one less thing to carry while in the steam pot. It has two main areas, the first is a room that is larger than anything you'd see in the Discovery Tour and has you looking down and wide into what seems like an endless pit of stalagmites and stalactites. You walk down, then along a narrow passage and then it brings you to a back second main room. Of all the rooms on the two tours, the first room in the Hidden Passages is the largest and the most impressive. In both tours you will see tons of curtains, ribbons and straws. The longest straw formations are in the Hidden Passages tour because this room was completely sealed off for thousands of years. That means no bats were able to get in and live in here. And even though bats use sonar to navigate, they would still accidentally bump into straws when flying and break them, hence the shorter straw formations in the Discovery tour rooms. Adventure Tours ($130-$170) - If you really want to do some climbing and get down and dirty there are adventure tours that run 2-4 hours long where you put in a spelunker's helmet and light and crawl through crevices and rappel down to get to areas that haven't been opened up to the public for walk through tours. General cavern tours are cheaper if you buy them the day before online. Cavern tours are also cheaper on weekdays vs. weekends. There are numerous gift shops and snack stations onsite. The also have a large rope and zip line structure for adults and other interactive areas for kids. Parking is plentiful and free. The site is 30 minutes north of San Antonio or 45 minutes south of Austin. I bought my tickets at the site and there wasn't a wait to get on a tour on a Sunday afternoon in December. ***Hot Tip - There are coupons in various travel guides that give you a discount on one tour, but if you are doing the Combo package, they will not accept any coupons for that.*** read more

They have a new light show which was a really neat experience. Be prepared t do some hiking up and down and wear good comfortable shoes that are slip resistant as the walkways are slick and steep. You will go as far as 180 feet Underground and it is very humid in the caverns. You can also pay extra and do come cave exploring but be prepared to be on your hands and knees and getting wet and muddy. read more

We came to visit my Aunt that recently moved to New Braunfels. She had told us she took my cousin to this really neat place to see the caverns and it was close by. We got our tickets ahead of time at on the website. An adult ticket for the Discovery tour was $30. There are a few tours to choose from and times. If you love learning about history and geology,stalagmites, and lime stone formations you will really enjoy this attraction. It is full of history and the campus is beautiful and clean. The caverns are not the only thing you can do here. There are many different activities for families and little ones. So you will want to be sure and check out all that is available there! The walk inside of the caves are a little steep and wet at times, so you will want to wear good tennis shoes with grip. There are hand rails to hold on to. We went down about 200ft. Must see!!! I know nothing abut caves. It's not really my thing, but the experience is one of those I'll never forget. I love how it's all dark but when the tour guide starts to talk about "the room", he'll start turning on the lights and it's impossible to not feel in awe of the whole thing. Juice is not worth the quiz. We arrived for the 11 am tour and quickly realized it was a very large group; maybe 50 or so people with one tour guide. With such a large group it was tough to observe the caverns, avoid those around us and get pictures while trying not to fall during the steep decents and inclines. At the beginning of the tour, a lot of time is wasted on group pictures. As we roamed through the tour guide would share information but it was tough hear most because the group was too large and often had side conversations going. When you arrive at the end of the cavern tour, be prepared for the long walk which remains once outside. This was brutal for us because it was 100 degrees outside. Last time I visited the Caverns feels like ages ago It caused such a great impression that left me wanting me to come back but this time I came back with my own family..I did not regret returning because I felt it was so much more organized and so much more floor space than last time I'd visited. It does help to use Groupons. We saved a lot of money for using Groupon. They advise tourists to dress in active gear and closed sports shoes for the long walk and steep stairs and walk ways that thankfully have handles. Initially it might feel cold when you walk in the cave but soon you find out how warm and humid it is during the walk. For each rock formation there was a different tour guide that knew anything and everything about the rock formation assigned. Very attentive and knowledgeable. No one was left behind. If you have health issues this is not the place for you. If you are an adventurer and love science. You'll love this place. It's a huge learning experience. Worth every penny of the wonderful experience. Your not allowed to take any drinking water or touch anything in thinking so you don't destroy the natural habitat or pollute the caves. The gift shops are way over priced, of course but they have so much creativity to help you spend money in every which way. The food at the restaurant is decently good tasting for the price but still overpriced. When we went they had a zip line adventure and they had a maze. Everything was fun but we just did the maze because my kids are little and not thrilled with dealing with heights. If you don't mind it than all the better, kudos for you. All in all this is an all day adventure if you decide to do everything in the adventure park. You won't regret it and will have a family adventure to talk about for years to come. Truly unforgettable. Be dressed for adventure and prepared to go early, this place can get packed very quickly. We had a truly epic experience and if you read my reviews, I never say that about anything. Living in San Antonio I feel blessed to have this diamond in the rough nearby to explore any time. Hidden passage way tour is a once in a Lifetime experience.I recommend wearing sneakers or some sort of shoes with traction so you can protect yourself going up and down the stairs. It's humid but it's not bad because you get water drops , You're allowed to bring a water bottle, AndYou'll be so amazed by the structure that you won't feel the heat at all. Going up is the more difficult part. There were a few pregnant women on tour and they were good throughout and at the end of the trip inside. Tour lasted 1hr 10 mins and tour guide gives chances to ask questions. If you have never been in a cavern, it's a must try. It was nice to experience and there are sturdy metal bars to hold unto so safety wasn't an issue. This review does not include discovery village as I didn't choose a combo deal. read more

This was my favorite activity from my recent trip to San Antonio-beating both the River Walk and the Alamo even. If you're slightly interested in nature, natural rock formations or caves deep in the Earth, be sure to visit the Natural Bridge Caverns. My wife and I did a combo tour-both the Natural Bridge as well as the Hidden Passages. Out of the two, I preferred the Natural Bridge, but I am glad we did both. Our tour guides were knowledgeable and friendly and kept the group engaged and gave us interesting facts along the way. They were also happy to answer questions. Be aware that this is mildly strenuous and will require walking up lots of stairs and steep inclines. It's also humid inside, so dress accordingly. During the Hidden Passages tour, our guide had us sit on some benches and introduced us to total darkness for about a minute. It was really impactful to be completely in the dark and hear the water dripping around us. If you're afraid of the dark or claustrophobic, you may want to skip that one. You are also required to wear a mask the entire time (Covid), so keep that in mind. I look forward to being able to visit in the future when that's, hopefully, no longer a requirement. Part of the fun for me is smelling the old rocks and the humid air, not just my hot breath. This is an activity I look forward to returning to in the future when I visit San Antonio again! read more

THIS PLACE IS INSANE! I've been to so many caves Utah, Kentucky, Nevada, Arizona and I'd say this is my favorite now even over mammoth caves in Kentucky. Yes places like Mammoth caves are larger but this cave has so much character with beautiful natural structures and WATER. I've never seen water like this in a cave before so it was very memorable for me. Our tour guide was awesome and very informative and another plus was the lighting. They way they set it up made it so easy to know what they were talking about in that moment meaning when they were describing a section of the cave it would light up.
