Natural grocers is definitely one of my favorite grocery stores and that I come to for a few very specific things. I also appreciate that they have a pretty solid selection of vitamins and other supplements. I like their storebrand things like the canned goods and other raw ingredients. They have good prices on things like nuts and dried fruit. I find myself here more and more often, especially for healthier options when it comes to cooking at home. I personally don't have any dietary restrictions, but I know they have a great selection of things like gluten-free and dairy free. They also indicate which items are local. read more

I've shopped here for 15 years (old and new locations) and it's got a great selection especially if you're looking for gluten free. I like their bulk section, too. I've never had an issue. I like the new layout, too, big and open. I like to get bath salts, too. They carry like 3 kinds of vegan jerky that I really like. They're having a great sale on eggs today if you're a member (which is so easy to become one). I got the email with the sale price but the signage wasn't up yet. The manager Leonard took the eggs up front to verify they were on sale. He and the other employees are so friendly and helpful. Their fruit and veggies are organic and don't have the nasty apeel coating on them. Besides farmers markets i won't buy them anywhere else. I go to Natural Grocers for specific vitamins and supplements. They always have them in stock and if you get their emails, they often offer them on sale. You can also sign up for an account with them which offers discount when you spend so many dollars at the store. This also helps you save money. I have shopped at vitamin cottage for many years. This location was an upset. I was blown off by the health care coach Madeline Hutton, then wondered arround the vitamin section passing numerous employees without a single one asking me for help. Unbelievable. read more

This is the only place I can find a fizzy vitamin c powder to put in water that has a natural low calorie sweetener and it is actually cheaper than the Emergen-C brand which uses artificial sweetener for their low calorie version. Other great buys here are amaranth, buckwheat flour, bulgur, coconut flour, coconut sugar, millet, oat flour, peanut butter powder, polenta, wheat berries, xylitol, and yeast. (can you tell my electronic organizer keeps track of best prices alphabetically?) Also, they have sprouting jars for seeds next to the produce section for about 1/2 the price of online sources. I think the hours marked on the door are hilarious: Mon-Sat 8:00 am-9:04 pm, Sunday 8:00 am- 7:35 pm. In my head, I have a little scenario of how this played out: I imagine a manager handing a pack of vinyl letters to a stock person and saying, go post the hours on the door 8 am-9 pm except make Sunday close at 7:30. The stock person starts it and halfway through discovers they don't have enough zeros in the pack. They go back to the manager and say they need another pack of vinyl letters to have more zeros, so can they go to the arts & crafts store next door and buy some? The manager says, no, you gotta work with what I gave you. The stock person says, fine; and does exactly as directed...making due with what they have on hand. After the job is done, I imagine the manager, sees the weird hours, but is stubborn and doesn't want to admit they should have just bought another pack of vinyl letters which might indicate weakness in their management. So the manager makes this the hours of the store forever and plays it off as intentional/quirky. And so now every time a customer walks into the store at 9:03 pm and asks if the store is still open; the employees curse the lack of just a few extra zeros in that pack of vinyl lettering, sigh and say, "yes we are still open". And I said, "I just need one minute, I know exactly what I want and where it is...maybe." read more

In the 505, grocery shopping can be an insanely difficult ordeal, but Natural Grocers plays a decent roll in our organic search endeavors. They have a limited but quality selection of veggies and fruits, and for the gluten-free lot, this place is a haven. A while back we bought gluten-free flour (oxymoron) and continue to substitute it for endless recipes. Vitamins galore. A huge selection of proteins for your favorite juices (yep, we juice). Awesome almond butter made on site. These people are nuts about nuts. Good frozen department. Delicious selection of non-hydrogenated, no-potato chips. More than any other aspect of the shopping experience, I love the employees. I've never run into a rude or off-setting person working the aisles or the register. And they don't supply bags of any sort; if you have a big purchase, they'll drop the goods in a cardboard box from one of their shipments. This can be an uneasy thing to grasp early on, but the benefits of this corporate decision are obvious from a planetary standpoint, and when you leave, you have that teensy tiny feeling that you actually make a difference by ditching the sack. As you load the goods into your SUV. For the 15 mile drive home. Where you'll most likely let some of your meal go to waste. And remind yourself that you're a gluttonous, but organic, carbon positive consumer. read more

Vitamin Cottage is a full-service natural foods grocery store. They offer the usual food items (fresh, frozen, dairy, small selection of frozen meat, breads, cereals, canned goods, cleaning supplies, etc.) They also have rows and rows of nutritional supplements. Need L-carnitine? Got it. Just read about PGX and would like to try it out? Buy it here. They also have an excellent bulk spices/herbs aisle. I purchased a pint-sized bag of bay leaves that cost less than $2, and the amount inside could have refilled my McCormick spice bottle 4 times over. The produce section isn't as extensive as, say, Whole Foods, but I like the fact that every item is organic, so you don't have to waste time reading labels to make sure that you don't accidentally grab the conventionally-grown grapes. . The prices are very good, too, far lower than the aforementioned Whole Foods. I shop here on a regular basis. read more

Natural Grocers' vitamin and supplement game is off the hook - it takes up over four aisles! Unfortunately, however, aisle space is a zero sum game, and they have no room left for a fresh meat counter -- an ironic decision given that fresh pastured organ meat is probably the most nutritious and beneficial vitamin that humans can buy. A large selection of frozen meats softens the blow, but only slightly. Pro tip: bring your own bag or you'll have to use boxes a la Costco. read more

I'm a huge fan of eating organic - y'know, no chemicals on my food that will kill brain development or make my children have three heads or eleven fingers. Natural Grocers is amazing with the concept of *only* selling organic produce. The other stores I frequent (no name-dropping here) may have organic products on occasion, but do not come close to 100% (of their produce) being organic. ***** MUST BRING YOUR OWN BAGS OR USE PROVIDED BOXES ***** There are a lot of gluten-free options, non-GMO and other things that are not organic, but still better than conventional items here. The prices are cheaper than other chains that claim to be "America's healthiest (grocery) store" - around 20% less I've calculated. Bottom line: if you live the organic food lifestyle, Natural Grocers is a place you must stop. Even for the on-the-fence foodies, the store has enough to keep you enticed. I'm trying to not be overly generous with the 5 stars, so I was trying to think of something that bugged me about this location, but nothing came to mind. So here instead is the list of things that make me happy. 1. All produce is organic, 2. All dairy is hormone free and they are transitioning to all grass fed, 3. Great selection of groceries, brands, bulk, and GF, 4. Great prices, 5. One the largest selections of vitamins/herbs in town, knowledgeable staff, 6. Colton - came in with my arm in a sling after surgery...I'd been out and about a fair bit to other stores, but he was the first and only person to offer me assistance, and since then he always greets me with a smile, 7. I like to talk to people in stores and spread good will. This includes cashiers, because I like to treat them as humans and not just servant/robots. Recently, I had a wonderful conversation with the people checking out in front of me, and we discussed how good we feel about getting Covid vaccinations at last. When it was my turn to check out, I asked the cashier if she had gotten vaccinated. She could have simply said "Not yet," or "I'm not sure I want to." But instead she gave me a micro-lecture on how it's none of my business and it's a personal health issue. I was shocked at her hostility. I tried to tell her that it is a PUBLIC health issue and we are all in this together as a society. But she immediately turned to the next people in line and ignored me. I have been spending about $400 a month in this store, but I will not set foot in this store again. I feel sorry for the wonderful lady in the vitamin area, who is always helpful. After reading reviews by employees of this chain elsewhere, I am disappointed that a store that pretends to be for people does not treat their employees well. I actually like this place a lot better a couple years ago. I still come here for a few things, but they have greatly reduced their selection of many items. I mostly frequent the bulk spices, which are fantastically priced. You can get a large bag of bay leaves (approx. 50 leaves) for $5...can't beat that. I also like their selection on some of the baking goods. They seem to have the best selection of things like sweeteners, cocoa powder, extracts, etc. Most other things I need I can find for cheaper and or a better selection of elsewhere. read more

Poor Customer Service! I will never go back! The staff in the vitamin department were unwilling to help multiple customers. When I asked where something was, I was told 'I would have to walk to the next aisle and show you where it was" but the employee just stood there. I never found the item. I ordered it on Amazon.
