I went to the Natural Grocers off of Colfax in Lakewood. No one was particularly rude but the general vibe was that of '"what are you doing here?" Very pretentious. Gotta give this store a little more love because every time I stop by I feel like a human versus a robot. Appreciate the sweet staff here and compared to chains in the area, they are better in many ways. I wish some of the prices weren't so high (almost $5 for - large can of crushed tomatoes), and it would be nice if the produce were fresher- some of it is old and just pitiful. Overall, I'd rather frequent this store than Whole Foods or the area Safeway. So I'm grateful they're here. I would like to see produce from local farms, when possible. Although one employee left her cashier station and was very helpful in locating products for me, a second worker trailed me throughout the store, including hovering over my final purchase of nearly $80. This chain has been a huge difference maker in my life--specifically this store. No where else can I find such quality supplements and power foods only matched by their incredible customer service. For the past year, I have battled complications from a terrible knee injury from an automobile accident with extensive joint pain. Already on a few medications and undergoing physical therapy my doctor also recommended additional supplements and dietary options that would help alleviate some of the symptoms. I first tried the local Whole Foods to no avail. They simply didn't have the selection or knowledgeable staff to recommend what would help. After 3 different salespeople and 45 minutes, I left the store in complete frustration empty handed. Cue my experience at Natural Grocers the next day--a complete 180! From the moment I walked in to the store, I'm greeted by several of their staff, including one of their managers (Steven) who is especially helpful and kind and has recommended several products that I now use everyday. He took the time to actually hear my story and asked what supplements I'm currently taking, then he made the recommendations that were DIRECTLY in line with what my doctor told me to look for. Now I have a path to actually getting better, and I feel it everyday. Because of Steven's knowledge and commitment to customers, this is the only store I will come back to. This store is so refreshing to visit compared to other grocery stores down the street. I don't buy all of my groceries here because it's expensive. I needed some vitamins for my 93 year old Dad so stopped into Natural Groceries on April 22. It was like someone opened the flood gates. It was awful. Zero zero zero social distancing was being enforced.. people were literally 2 inches apart at times. I tried my best to keep my distance but it was nearly impossible. A worker almost ran into me as she took a wide turn around the corner..I was to say the least, frazeled. I think it might be awhile before I go back in there. I will be discontinuing support of Natural Grocers after a horrible interaction with the vitamin manager here, Steven. This is a big shift, as I loved Natural Grocers and have emphasized with countless friends and family how much I believed in this company. I always shop here as soon as I get into CO, OR, CA, MT, etc. and have spent a few thousand dollars with them at least, especially on vitamins and body products. My friend tried to return a few extra vitamin products he'd gotten for me when I was sick. It's rare I ever get sick, so he went a little overboard and bought extra for me to choose between. Also one of the products I did try but didn't like, so he was returning that as well. He also bought two Hydroflasks but then found a better price somewhere else. We've spent over a thousand dollars at Natural Grocers just in the last month, yet my friend said Steven profiled us and commented on seeing our van outside (a very nice Mercedes Sprinter) and immediately said he wouldn't be able to do anything for returns. My friend had the receipts, and it was within 30 days, so there was no reason for this, so Steven came up saying the receipt had been "tampered with" because one item was marked out on one receipt from a prior return. He told my friend he'd have to drive all the way back to Oregon (where the items were purchased) to make the return after driving home to NC, even though the manager at the original store had assured my friend that he could return them at any Natural Grocers if we decided not to use some, etc. Steven was rude enough and immediately dismissive to the point that I no longer trust supporting this company. I don't believe one person should impact our perspective of the entire company and all the amazing people we've interacted with at other Natural Grocers, so it's a tough, weird decision. We feel trapped though, with no option to return items that are well within all the required criteria. It feels untrustworthy and was really a horrible exchange of judging/profiling people for living in a solar-powered, nice van and my friend having long hair. I can't imagine how he would've acted if we had a rough-looking car. Steven said he was the manager of the headquarters of all the Natural Grocers, but then when my friend went back in to ask his name, Steven said he was just the vitamin manager, so we're a little confused as to whether he's the main manager of the headquarter Natural Grocers as he first conveyed it or just one of many managers, in which case I wouldn't feel as rough about the situation. I hope the creators of Natural Grocers, who I've always felt have their hearts in a very caring, intentional place, are shown this review and that any shift can happen to where we can continue supporting this company. In the meantime, I would highly recommend at least not buying any expensive vitamin or beauty products here, as the return policy was not honored. read more

What can you say about Natural Grocers (most locals still refer to them as Vitamin Cottage)? They're pretty amazing, for one. Organic produce, a wide variety of healthier fresh, frozen, bulk and prepackaged foods as well as vitamins, minerals, herbs, homeopathic remedies and beauty products at very good prices. They're much more affordable than WF and some things are even better priced than at King Soopers. The staff are so helpful; always there to help you find that thing you can't remember the name of. They have nutritionists and a small education section with books. You can even pick up some environmentally friendly laundry soap and TP. Woohoo! This has rocketed to the top of my grocery store list. The store is large with a great variety of organic seasonal produce. Their cosmetic/vitamin selection is equally as a big, plus the staff working that sections are very knowledgeable and helpful. They tend to price-match Whole Foods (you may have to ask, but after a few days I see the prices start to change). My favorite, favorite thing about this VC (I'm not sure if they do this at all of them) is their $1 produce bags. I have found really nice produce in large quantities in these bags - a couple of huge peaches and a few apples? $1. Two pounds of okra that was not a few days ago $10/lb? $1. We pickled those guys and will try them out today. Lettuce? Zucchini? Cucumbers? Green peppers? If you come on a good day you can make out like a bandit. I think this is a great local company to support - local, organic food and knowledgeable, happy staff. We do still go to WF sometimes for meat/chicken/fish, but everything else we buy at VC. read more

Excellent selection and courteous employees. I went to Natural Grocers Vitamin Cottage (odd name and a bit confusing at first) in search of honey. I've recently got into mead making so I wanted some fresh honey. VC offers a quality selection of honey varietals: blossom, wildflower, clover, buckwheat, agave, tupelo, fruited, and other blends. They have raw and filtered in all sizes from 12 ounces to many pounds. Prices are competitively reasonable as compared to other grocers but VC's selection is much better. The only other items I've purchased were frozen cranberries and apple cider. Again, both were reasonably priced and available when I wanted them, so that's a seasonal plus. One thing to note: they do not offer bags for your purchases. They have boxes, but most people bring reusable bags. Of course they do, this is Natural Grocers. read more

I've been here twice. The first time I was at King Soopers and called Natural Grocers to see if they had avocado oil. I compared the two prices and it was much cheaper at Natural Grocers so I made my way over there to purchase it. The second time I was also at King Soopers and called Natural Grocers to see if they had chocolate covered espresso beans. It sounded cheaper at Natural Grocers so I went there but then I found it was cheaper because it had less beans in it- so I did not buy anything. The place is pretty small and kind of dark. They have an organic produce section and then some normal grocery aisles. Everything looks fresh and healthy I guess. They also have a section for dogs, beauty, and vitamins. The last time I went, they had a bunch of free samples for products (like lotion, vitamins, and allergy medicine). Other than the avocado oil, I'm not sure how the prices compare to King Soopers but I would assume it is a bit more expensive because it's similar to Whole Foods. Update: My favorite and most reasonably priced item here are the dried sugar coated mangos for $2.50. They are nice and chewy and very reasonably priced! My hubby and I mainly shop here for the beauty products since they are "all natural." Our favorite brand is "Allafia" because you get a lot of product for the price and the smell is amazing! read more

Natural Grocers/Vitamin Cottage is my go-to grocery AND vitamin store. I spend far more time and money with them than at all the other companies combined. I do that for these reasons: 1) Healthy food, including produce that is ONLY organic 2) Very high quality vitamin/supplement brands 3) Exceptionally good prices, even when compared to the big corporate chains 4) Personal attention and service They beat every other natural food/supplement store hands down on those counts. I really like coming to this location. The employees are helpful when I need to find something, and they often give recommendations when I ask. I don't usually have to wait in line for very long, since they are quick to open registers as needed. They take interest in the things that I buy, and mention workshops or other functions they are hosting that I might be interested in. The restrooms are kept up nicely, too. read more

My husband works at the Arvada location but this is closest to our house. Smaller than most locations it seems, but it's quality over quantity for sure. Great employees, easy parking. The nutritionist Cathy will do a free consultation with you about diet and supplements, very knowledgeable! Happy vibe here, so shopping is pleasent! It doesn't have everything king stupids does but it's all non gmo and organic, so you really can't compare. Plus this company is good to its employees and its local. read more

I've shopped here exclusively for many years. It's an exceptional business by modern standards and I no longer wish to feed monsters like kroger or monsanto so here I am. I'm always impressed by how knowledgable, helpful and downright friendly everyone is. Everyone except for Linda, an elderly cashier whom I assume must have come back out of retirement, judging by her steadfast resentment toward each customer and task. She's the only one I've ever seen who doesn't feel the need to bag my groceries before moving on to the next customer. I'm not one to take the behavior of a sourpuss personally, even year after year. But when the snarling and indignation she exudes, when I approach her within 90mins of closing or when i have multiple types of produce for her to separate, turns into a display of excessive force on my delicate produce, or ringing up my roma tomatoes as heirlooms, that's really asking too much of my patience. read more

Prices have gone up at Vitamin Cottage and the workers there are not helpful! I have shopped at the Vitamin Cottage on Leetsdale for years, they know me and yet don't acknowledge me. Maybe they are unhappy working there??! Much of the time, they have items on sale and they are out of stock - have no idea when it might come in and don't seem to care. I then go to Whole Foods and they have the item and price is cheaper. I've just come from Whole Foods, the employees couldn't be nicer, asking me how my day is going, etc. It's a pleasure to shop Whole Foods, the inventory is better and the people CARE! VC stores offer the best prices on nearly everything, and I love that everything here is organic so there's no need to check each item. My favorite section is the bulk grains, nuts, seeds, etc -- I like the way that most of these goodies are now in factory sealed packaging (rather than the hand-filled, twist-tied packs) but still so affordable and so fresh. Try the whole spelt -- yum! Employees are always helpful, and seem to know where just about everything is located. It's rare these days to have someone approach you in a store and ask if you are finding what you need. I have only 2 problems with VC -- some of the produce looks pretty darn scary to me: wilted, tired, aged and simply not appealing. I pick and choose very carefully. The other issue is not the stores. It's those horrible commercials with the screeching, not-at-all natural looking woman. What's the deal with that? If I'd not been a customer before seeing and hearing those awful advertisements, I'd never have set foot in the place. Strange, strange way to let people know about a "Natural" store, and a big turn-off. read more

This is a not a good place for minorities to shop. I called this store on May 13th to see if the Ezkiel 2.0 bread was sold at this store, the guy in the phone was very helful and told me the bread was available. I drove and reached the store around 745pm. The bread was frozen and the price was listed has $4.75. I wanted more details on the bread since it was frozen and I was trying to find someone to help. The cashier named linda rather than helping me was watching me like I a hawk wondering if I was going to shoplift. Since I could not find anyone I directly asked linda for help. But she had no clue about breads and did not make a call to find a person that could help. Then I found I guy that helped and told me why the bread was frozen, this was the guy I spoke on the phone. Again at the cashier, while paying, linda did not greet or smile. I asked her if I could Input my phone number to get rewards, she said no since I was not a member. She gave me card to sign up online. I came home and found out they charged me $6.92 rather than the $4.75 they had posted for the bread. Love this place! I have a restricted diet, allowing no gluten, dairy, corn and a myriad of other items. They have a great selection of natural and allergy condos conscious foods. All of their produce is organic, and they lean toward sustainably sourced items. Prices are a little higher than some comparable items at King Soopers, but better on others, and is lower on almost everything than Whole Foods. It's worth comparing! I get all my supplements and homeopathic meds here, and most of the boxed/canned/prepared foods I buy. The staff is great. They handle special orders for me, and have researched specialty products for me too. One of the cashiers is a bit sour, but I've learned to compliment her first thing, then she's friendly! I like supporting smaller, socially and environmentally conscious businesses, so Natural Grocers is the place for all the allergy conscious stuff I need. Whole Paycheck can take a hike! read more

We shop NG by VC more than once a week, most frequently on South Wadsworth or South Kipling but also the W. Alameda location. Once in a great while Longmont. The people who work in these stores are the best ever, we're very fond of them and know we can trust them. They're always knowledgeable and helpful and never pushy to sell. We find our health is just better if we keep up with quality supplements and organic produce and general food. Sometimes it costs a bit more, although not always, (and sometimes it costs LESS, especially the sales) but it's worth it. Nasty chemicals and GM foods do no one any good and we avoid them by shopping at Natural Grocers. read more
