So I am going to explain why I gave 2 stars. So back in 2017 I got my locs installed via palm roll method by Trudy. I absolutely loved the experience, my sister came with me. I came for 6 months until I learned how to do my own locs. Fast forward, two individuals I know get their hair done here consistently and I was so impressed with the results I decided to make a deeper investment in my hair. I have been natural for over 13 years and I have a strong desire to have a big Afro again. I came here 3 weeks ago and I didn't have a bad experience but I did get some scabs in the back of my hair that I think was due to trying to grip my short hair, so I take accountability for that but this experience I had a few days ago is enough for me not to return. I had to wait when I first got there, no problem with me because I had brought my planner and I needed to get a few things done but the Spa had an event that evening that I did not know about and if I did I would've planned being there a different day. The person who was doing my hair was not focused because she was so worried about the event (which I understand but I do not think her level of performance was fair to me). She was too distracted and took 4.5 hours to do my hair that I believe could've been done in 2.5 hours or less. Plus side there was a food vendor there and the small plate and vegan skewer I had was absolutely delicious so I am very grateful for that because I was in a horrible mood due to my experience and that made me feel slightly better. So bad experience for me but I still recommend this place to others, here is my advice so you do not have the same experience as me: 1. Ask how long your style will take 2. Ask how much the style is before you get it done (and ask around in other places to make SURE you are paying the market rate) 3. Ask is there any events happening at the store at the time of your style (The salon operates at its best when there are no events) 4. Bring a book or crossword puzzle while you wait. It's standard to wait while at the salon. This will help you pass the time if you are introverted like me, otherwise the people in the salon love to talk/converse so if you want to carry on a conversation, that's an option available to you as well! read more

Natural trendsetter 7247 Northwest 88th Avenue Tamarac Florida 33321 On their website they claim to be a "One-Stop shop for Best in natural and healthy hair care." However, their written philosophy on their webpage is proven to be truly false. In June 2017, my hair appointment was scheduled for 3 p.m. When I arrive to my hair appointment, the hair stylist was attending to I believe a walk in customer during my appointment time. Therefore, this salon has very poor time management. I came in to get my natural hair cared and styled. Unfortunately, I did not get good service. The two girls that shampoo the client's hair do a good job. If it's slow you're lucky to get one of them to wash your hair. For tbe most part, these girls will forget working on your hair if they're told by the owners or senior stylists to go clean the sinks, wash the towels, or broom the floor. My biggest concern about this salon services is that once they finish washing hair and give you a 20 second conditioner in your hair. They place a towel over the hair which dries out the hair because you're sitting for about 15-30 minutes waiting before styling your hair. Once the stylist finally gets to your hair probably an hour later, they just go right in to blow dry your hair when its dry. You'll be lucky if the stylist remember to put leave in conditioning in the hair before blow drying your hair. After the hair is blow-dried, no moisture is put back into the hair. The hair feels good and don't need it. Whatever happened to provide the service that the customer request. From observing, it seems like ingnor and get the next person in the chair. I've noticed that if your stylists is either Trudy or Simone, owners of the salon, you get the quality service. Therefore, the owners treat everyone else like a number. read more

I had an appointment at 9 am. My wash started at 9:20 which was fine. My hair is natural and in a healthy state. All I needed was a wash and blow dry to have the very ends of my hair trimmed. In the middle of trimming my hair, the hairdresser stopped to do a consult with another client. She then came back to complete my trim which turned out be a cut. She cut my hair (not trimmed) although I showed her how much I wanted trimmed, which was just the very end. I went from bra strap length to shoulder length. Then when she was finished, she pulled my hair up into a ponytail with a ponytail holder that had a metal joining. I never used hair accessories with metal as it damages your hair. What was worse, the ponytail holder also had someone else's hair in it. Not only did she cut off too much of my hair but my hair is noticibly longer on one side than the other. I will need to get another hairdresser to fix what was done at this salon. I paid $60 ($55 plus $5 tip - yes, I still tipped) to get a hack job. The receptionist and another stylist were very professional. They greeted me and thanked me for coming because they knew I had come a long way (from Miami). My hair stylist was Natalie. She did a great job with my Big Chop! I had been transitioning for 5 months. She washed my hair very well and deep conditioned it. Then she cut off all my relaxed hair. She did a beautiful twist out using a comb. I LOVE my hair :-) this was my first time ever going natural and Natalie made my hair look awesome. She gave me tips on how to take care of my hair and keep my hair style looking good. My experience at this salon was great. The stylists were professional and friendly. I saw the other stylists doing beautiful styles as well. I saw one lady leave with a pretty braid updo.... Another stylist straightened a clients natural hair to perfection. I didn't know what to expect because when I took her to a different salon, she screamed and resisted the whole time. They accepted me on a walk walk-in basis. I would also like to add that everyone from the receptionist to the hairstylist was very welcoming and friendly. I went for a cut of my natural hair. Good Day: I write this review for others who hopefully will find this helpful before they get their dreads in the wrong style as I did. I don't want this to happen to ANYONE else EVER. I wanted to give a 2 star at least, because the manager of the store was so kind, washing my hair so well and the energy of the place was nice. But I'll start by addressing that I am a White female with Dreadlocks (only mention color in this review bc hair texture is so important with Locks). I Live on South Beach, had to rent a car and drive an hour to get my dreads done, seeing how I couldn't find anyone closer who knew how to do the CROCHET METHOD ON WHITE HAIR. I did this because I was refered to her by a male friend Af Am. & called ahead to speak the young woman to ask plenty time if she knew how to do the 'Crochet Method on White Girl Hair Dreadlocks'?? She repeatedly said yes yes yes she did and has done before several time (a lie). Now mind you I needed maintenance for one month of growth but as my Dreads were about 5-6 months in, I really did need help separating and so on. ANYWHO, She was pleasant and we got along just fine the entire time. However, she did the INTERLOCKING Method. Which is ONLY DONE on African American Hair or if you are going for that African American style look as a diff Race person. I told her so many time, I have been looking for someone who does the CROCHET METHOD for so long and cant find anyone. I hadn't at that time learned how to Crochet Maintenance my own Dreads yet, as I do now, so I didn't really know the technique myself good enough to catch her doing it wrong the entire time. SO, she had me placed alongside the the mirror, like parallel and to far in front of mirror to even see my hair or what she was doing. Therefore, I couldn't see, not one minute, what she was doing to my hair to stop her. She worked for at least 2 hours. All good vibes. In the last 5 minutes of the hair work, I asked to see how she was doing the last dread because she kept mentioning INTERLOCKING for the next client. She was looping and looping my hair and INTERLOCKING IT!! I was so horrified I didn't want her to get in trouble and it was already done. She wanted to put it half up for me or 'style' it & I let her (she did in 3 min, which I immediately shook out as I got in my car, not wanting to hurt her feelings). I just wanted to cry I was so embarrassed. This Dread Journey for me is LIFESTYLE not a STYLE so I now know not to go to a 'Stying Salon' because me nah style my hair-its Natural. (Just my personal choice). As in natural, crochet method only dreads. The first year requires maintenance in this crochet method often. She had shortened my locks at least HALF WAY THEIR LENGTH WHEN I WENT IN. And I had to go home and wash 5 times with shampoo to get it even looking able to leave the house and all the product she put in it OUT. I asked her a few days later via text if she did the CROCHET METHOD and any pointers to fix it because it was done wrong. Explaining to her nicely & privatley how horrified I was. I was such in a state I was considering chopping them off and starting over. Now there is a 3 inch chunk of interlocked bumpy hair in the top/middle of all my dreads that will always be there. Completely not matching the rest of all my dreads (Crochet Method). Not to mention the 6 months it took for me to grow that length is GONE and my hair is so short I couldn't even put in a hair-tie. (Still cant). As we chatted via text and I told her she did the WRONG METHOD, she was so cruel and mean and nasty. Her Ego or something made her get nasty, refusing to learn. I let it go but my entire family and friends are horrified at how short my dreads are and what the heck happened to them. Everyone I know to this day asks me why I cut my Dreads so short. Smh. I've never let a scissors touch them. I share my Dread Journey on IG for others that might be on their own Dread Journey as well. Because the journey has been hard lol to say the least. She went on my Instagram page and wrote a comment so mean and nasty. I took a pic, erased it and blocked her immediately. This is extremely unprofessional. She wrote "I'm a fake Rasta, and fake wanna be" re re re.. and a whole paragraph of a nasty, cruel bashing, attack toward me. Literally I was dumbfounded, seeing if I told her boss, I'm sure she would be fired. I've taken a long time to review bc I try to keep my mental peace & had this on my to-do list for 5 months now. I've never written a yelp review before. But I cant stress it enough THIS GIRL DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO DO THE CROCHET METHOD OR CAUCASIAN DREADS. She didn't even know that the two diff races have two diff textures so obviously there is 2 diff ways to do the Dreads. Please steer clear of this girl. This is review is late, 8 years to be exact. But I've shared my experience with other people over the years. This is solely based on my experience at the time it happened. I'm sure by now they've probably improved or not on some areas where it was needed. It was 2004 and I went in to have two strand twists done with coloring. I had just finished transitioning after a full year with cornrows. I only wanted twists and RED highlights. At the time the young lady who would do my color and twists seemed to be TOO PREOCCUPIED ABOUT MEETING BUSTA RHYMES AT AN EVENT THE NIGHT PRIOR and wasn't focused on making sure the color applied changed my hair to RED. Instead of RED I had PINK highlights. I was very upset and couldn't understand if you're a professional hair stylist, shouldn't you be focused on your client and what you're doing rather than some encounter with a celebrity. She apologized but didn't bother to offer a discount or color corrective services. She twisted my hair I paid and left even after mentioning the issue to the lady at reception. Eventually I let the color wash out and found a white, Southerner from Memphis who know more about black hair and coloring than the stylist who's name is Simone. He asked who gave the incorrect color and I said I got it done at a Black hair salon. He hooked me up with Beyonce like honey and chocolate highlights. He did a Waaaaaaaaaaaaay better job and the color was correct!!!! To anyone that goes there, MAKE SURE YOUR STYLIST IS FOCUSED ON YOU AND NOT SOMETHING ELSE. To this day, I'll never set foot in there. Oh the rating would be 0 on color processing and a 1 on service. The twisting she did was fine, except she had to blow dry my hair straight before she twisted. From that day I decided to do my hair myself. I visited the Delray Beach location. It has taken me several months to write this review because I didn't want it to come from a place of anger. I went in for the in person consultation prior. I met the stylist, Marie, she looked at my hair we discussed a trim, a steam moisture treatment and I wanted my hair blow dried so I could wear it straight. She took notes. We scheduled it for 10 am that next week and I was told I would get a call to confirm the appointment. I received a call the day before my appointment to confirm my noon appointment. I asked did something change the guy that called to confirm said he didn't know that's what time he was given. That should have been an indication for me to just cancel. I arrived at the salon. When I arrived, Marie asked what I was here for. I reminded her about my consultation the week before and I was now here for my appointment. She said "yeah, I know but what were you getting again?" I told her a trim, a steam treatment and blow dry. She told me to sit at the sink. She proceeded to put some cream on my hair and because I had never had a steam treatment I asked how does steam work with the cream. She replied "oh, the steam machine is at another location so I just going to give you a protein treatment instead." Now I am 100% natural my last relaxer was 5 years ago and my hair is a very course 4b/c. The protein treatment made my hair hard and locked it up. She ripped out handfuls of hair trying to detangle and blow dry it. Then chopped it up trying to trim it to make it even. She then proceeded to make a single "dookie braid" on the top of my head. When I reminded her about wearing it straight she said "oh, you wanted a blow out,well I don't have time to do that cause I have to go see my lawyer so I don't have time to do that but maybe I could give you a discount next time." When I arrived I had shoulder length natural hair. I had not used heat on my hair since my last perm and my hair was thick and full. My hair was so damaged. I was left with over processed, stringy hair with no volume. Despite them being called natural trendsetters they DO NOT use natural products. Do not be fooled. I think they were unprofessional and over-priced. Yes you want quality and that comes with a steep price, however, I pay for full service (my HAIR and how you TREAT/INTERACT with me). I am transitioning from relaxed to natural hair. I guess the stylist have assistants who do the stylist's washing; basically I was upset bc the assistant who washed my hair did not listen to me. I said "Please don't swish my hair all around bc it will get tangled." Basically I had to tell her to stop and to not comb my hair after she did that bc she would pull my hair out. She put my conditioner in that she thought was a leave-in conditioner after I repeatedly told her that it wasn't a LEAVE-IN she still tried to put me on stylist's chair without washing it out; the stylist had to check her. I like to build a rapport with the person who is doing my hair. To say the least this stylist talked on her phone WHILE doing my hair. Plus MOST of the other stylists were, for the most part, unprofessional. I would not go back. I care about my hair, that means I want to be in a nurturing environment that shows that they care about my hair more than I do. It definitely is not as good as it gets. read more
