I was told if he wore it and it didn't fit, they would accept it back as long as I had the receipt and tag. I bought it on a Wednesday and attempted to return it on a Friday. He wore it once for a long walk and I removed it when I came home. It didn't fit him well and seemed too snug for continued use, specifically around his neck. Somehow on our walk it became frayed on the underside. I tried to exchange it with the intention of buying one of the nicer harnesses. I was told they would be unable to resell it bc "he must've chewed it up". Which didn't happen. He only had it on for the walk and was taken off when we got back. I was told it wasn't too small then and we can't resell it". People are constantly saying to support local businesses. Return policies like this make it difficult when big stores like petco or petsmart will exchange with 0 hassle. For a store that is empty every time I've been there, I would think they'd be more understanding and relaxed in an exchange, especially considering I was going to spend more money than the first time I was there.

My mom was visiting from out of town and I told her we had to go to Lucky Dog. We played the battle-for-a-parking-place game and ended up at LD. The staff was not very welcoming or friendly. No one greeted us, no one engaged us in conversation. When we asked them questions, we got simple answers with no elaboration or suggestions for products. They acted like we were bothering them by being in the store. They have a big selection of dog food which takes up most of the shelf space. There are leashes, clothes and collars... all overpriced, I might add. They have limited products but it is a smallish store, after all. They seemed to carry high end food that you couldn't get at other stores. I get they serve a niche clientele. They don't aim for ordinary dog owner customers. They aim for well-heeled fancy pants dog owners. I get it but they still could have been friendly either way. When we left, no one said, "Thanks for coming!" Nope. Nothing. This is an expensive store. Even their sale items were pricey. It takes a great deal of $ to pay the rent on a store downtown. They do not deal in quantity. I have no issues with the cost of their items. They do offer higher end food, for example. I do mind paying that money and getting NO customer service or kind words. Customers want to be appreciated and this didn't happen here for us. A few months ago I had called to get a reservation for a Santa picture with my Annie. They said they were all booked up and couldn't take her picture. It is not like taking one more picture would have taken an hour. It would have been a few minutes tops. They still were not going to budge. Huge food selection, homemade treats but there is little else they offer. Parking is difficult downtown and I won't play the parking game again for a business that obviously did not appreciate my patronage. Woof.

As a previous reviewer noted, you can tell the quality of care by how your dog leaves the facility. All perked ears and tail wags and then the inevitable crash on the way home. Our Foster pups always come home more relaxed and easier to handle after a day's play. Our personal dogs are thankful for that too, being older they just can't keep up with those younger pups. The staff is wonderful and always greet our dogs by name during drop off and give us an "report" on how they did during the day. We've also boarded with DFP for long weekends out of town (our pups don't travel well) atnd always been impressed with the condition they were returned in. Bathed, brushed, relaxed, and happy to head home, what else could you ask for?

For the past 5 years, my two dogs stay here anytime we are out of town (which is around every other month for at least 7 days)-- so we've taken our dogs here at least 30 times. Our dogs are our babies. When we leave town, I never worry about them. The people that work there really and truly love each dog and know each dog's personality. We had a 1 month trip planned just 2 months after one of my dog's bilateral TPLO surgery & the staff made sure that he was babied. When our dogs stay there, they have non-stop fun-- so each time when they come back home, they sleep for 3 days straight. It's a clean facility but does smell like dogs (fancy that!) which might bother someone (if they've never taken their dog to a boarding facility before or don't realize that even the cleanest of dogs tend to have an odor). The cost is reasonable and they collaborate with a few local rescues so your money isn't only going to keep their lights on, it's also going to help save the lives of other dogs (Yay for karma points!). Is it a fancy place? No. And I don't know about your dogs, but neither of my dogs care about fancy. Cotton or cashmere? They don't care. Filet mignon or McDonald's? They would gladly eat both. Where I'm going with this is that this isn't The Ritz Carlton and that's OK-- because dogs don't care. It's safe, clean (but understandably stinky) and the dogs have fun and are loved on. What more could people want?

My first issue with this place is their pricing is not at all transparent on their website. Their website says $45 a night. This is grossly misleading. My dog is incredibly anxious and takes medication to help with that. They charged me to give her her meds that I provided for her. $95. Ninety five dollars to give a dog one and a half pills once a day. Not once did they mention this either on their website or when I was dropping her off. I shrugged that off. Irritated, but those meds keep my dog safe and I will pay ANY amount to keep her safe. And then I got home. Whereupon I noticed two large injuries on her front paws. One swelling abrasion, and one puncture wound. Naturally concerned, I called them to ask about it. The manager that I spoke to was very helpful and apologetic and said that he'd discuss with his staff and get back to me. He was polite and overall a joy to speak to and deserves a promotion. He said that he didn't notice any injuries on my dog during his time with her. After the call, I received a call back from the owner. He was condescending and short with me, blaming my dogs swollen paw on a grass allergy. Plausible, right? No. She is a mostly outdoor dog and we regularly go on walks in grassy areas. Beyond that- get this! He said during my dogs nail trim, he noticed the abrasion and thought nothing of it. His exact words were "it's like a kid at daycare, right? Sometimes they get hurt." Which absolutely makes sense, but the difference here is the kids parents would get a call, an incident report, anything to be like "hey this happened FYI." And if I had gotten a call I wouldn't be so angry. When I brought up the lack of communication (which, btw, I called 2-3 times to check on her during my trip and this was NEVER mentioned) he said "oh do you want me to make a note of that in her file to give you a call if something like this happens again?" (That should be default. Call the owner if something happens to their dog, what the crap?) And I said "no thank you, she won't be returning so that won't be necessary", and instead of working with me to find a solution, or at the VERY least offering to cover veterinary bills or refund the $95 that they didn't tell me I would be paying, he offered a very condescending goodbye and promptly hung up on me. Also please note that NO ONE NOTICED THE PUNCTURE WOUND on my dog over the course of her stay, when it was visible enough that we noticed within ten minutes. I respect that this is a family owned business and appreciate the work that went into building this, but the negligence and lack of communication and transparency is not acceptable. Not to mention the absolute lack of any solution offered besides "put Neosporin on it". TLDR: they did not disclose pricing, were very condescending, and my dog came back injured.

Furthermore, she would instruct us on exactly how to handle the situation in great detail, and she would follow this up with drills to ingrain the right reaction by the owner with very close attention to the fundamentals of dog-to-human communication: voice inflection, pitch and tone; body language, movement, hand placement, grip; cues to reward and commands to help enact a particular behavior. Karen even has an unending offering of tips and tricks to wear your pup out, redirect its attention, etc., even how to teach your furry friend how to disentangle itself from its leash - she taught Magnus in less than five minutes, which was pretty incredible!
