On the cape on vacation I went to Nauset fish and lobster to get a few items for a fish stew I was making. It was a Wednesday and there were a few people looking over the lobsters (which are on display in a huge tank) and the fresh fish case. Everything was very fresh and they had an impressive selection of fish and shellfish to offer. The person who waited on me was very nice and patient with me (as I needed different amounts of 6 different seafood items). The freshness of the fish was totally worth the price. Yeah....I could have gotten some stuff at the supermarket but how long has it been sitting there? The fish here looked as if it were caught that day. They also offer to cook your lobster (might have to call ahead) which is a nice option. Overall a very good experience. read more

The a full fresh filet of scrod, ahi tuna kabobs, half lb of prawns at $14/lb, and a whole 8" clam pie...along with some homemade tartar and a med container of clam chowder base.... Joined the queue and waited our turn for some super fresh maritime yummies--market sells all sorts of condiments...I.e. Cream for bisque, old bay spice, seasoning for any kind of seafood--even fresh, crusty bread and an alcohol case! Remember to freeze your lobsters for a bit before dunking them into the lobster pot to kill them humanely--they go into a comatose, slower state when cold. read more

I have shopped here for years. I have always loved this place. But now they hire these anti-social young men who are just plain rude. And it's not just me. I watched three other customers get treated the same way while waiting in the line. The last 3 times in a row they refuse to even say thank you even after I say thank you. It's truly deliberate at this point. It feels like they have these sociopathic internet dumb trolls working the counter. Remarkable what has happened here. It's truly remarkable to spend over $100 on fish and be treated this way when I go out of my way to shop there. Avoid this place. They have just become terrible. We stay in Orleans every year because we have family in the area, and we decided two years ago to give up on Nauset Fish. The fresh fish and lobster they sell are available everywhere on the Cape, so the selling point for a fish market is how they handle customers. In my experience this shop is impatient with customers and often downright rude. We have complained and been told it was one particular "niece" who no longer works there, but when we went back it was the same deal. I'm sure those who work there get tired of answering the same questions and waiting for people to make up their mind as to what they want. But that is part of the job and we feel much more welcomed at other local markets. read more

This is absolutely the best fish market to go to in Orleans, and even the surrounding towns. Everything is always fresh, beautifully cut and clean. I love it. The fishmongers themselves are really helpful and efficient, and I believe a few of them to be the fishermen who supply the actual inventory. They always know what's fresh, what's best and exactly how much you'll need. They have a great lobster pool and will even cook them for you in advance, if you like. They also sell condiments, chips and a small selection on wine and beers to complete the meal you're about to make. Nice! Parking can be tricky as there are only a few spots our front that are shared with neighboring businesses, but you can find a place in the neighboring larger lot. read more

I've been coming here for as long as I can remember. They've pretty much got any seafood your little heart could desire, and its all very fresh. The lobster tank is very entertaining for kids. If you're a lazy vacationer you can order lobsters, cooked, to be picked up. I find that these people, more frequently than restaurants, cook the lobster PERFECTLY. I have been going to this fish market for over 10 years. They have excellent selection of quality seafood. It's not cheap. However I am a very disappointed customer. This is a small building and I am surprised that one of the workers repeatedly refuses to wear a mask. Social distancing is not possible. I find this practice irresponsible and reckless. Easily some of the freshest seafood I've ever tasted. Honestly can't imagine better seafood - MAYBE as good, but definitely not better. My friends and I decided to save some cash by lighting up our grill instead of going to some expensive restaurant. Definitely one of the better decisions of the trip. We found this place thanks to the raving Yelpers, and decided on one of the salmons (can't remember which kind), a swordfish steak, and some scallops. All were fantastic - just so flavorful! The fish here is consistently fresh and well presented. Nauset has a wider selection than some of the other local fish markets. Ask them about ways to cook what you're buying as they have a lot of interesting recipes, some of which are posted on a board behind the counter. Expect to pay a premium here. If local prices for fish or scallops drop because of a good catch, they will not pass the savings on to their customers. There are better alternatives in Chatham and Eastham read more

So let me brag and say that I am a great amateur chef. I am also a grill master, gas and charcoal... SO when I buy my food for the grill I look carefully -- I don't want to ever serve mediocre meals. It's one thing if I screw up with the seasonings or the marinade. It's another if the fish is flavorless or dated. I used to go to Cap'n Elmers for all of my fresh fish when in Orleans. And this is for over 30 years. The fish was always good. The service was almost always cursory at best. But I kept going back. When Elmer's closed this past year I had to find my way down 6A to Nauset Fish. Within 10 seconds of being waited on I kicked myself -- all these years I spent at Elmer's being treated with blase attitude and here I was treated with courtesy and respect. And their product? Everything I bought from them: scallops, salmon, shrimp, swordfish, lobsters (they steamed and cracked them to perfection), and some yellow fin tuna, was very fresh and very tasty. Thanks to the raw material from Nauset Fish I made some exquisite better than any restaurant dishes. There's no question: forget any other fishmonger. Forget Stop and Shop or Shaws. We stopped in for a pound and half of littleneck clams over the weekend. Paid about $7.50 for some really fresh ones and found a nice bottle of chablis as well. We threw the clams together with some garlic, lemon juice, and beer and the concoction was delicious. I thought the beer would be weird, but it all came together very nicely because of the delicious clams. Besides having spaghetti with it, we used bread to sop up the sauce. Solid fishmonger with good sized lobster pools that were well stocked. Not cheap but good. Haddock was first rate but @ $16.99/lb and 1.25 chicks @ $11. But it's high-season on the Cape and they need to make their money. No one is driving up from Pennsylvania to buy fish and lobsters in January, after all. You may find cheaper if you call around, but this place is AOK. read more
