The decor is a little bananas (different shades of green between the walls, the napkins, the barstools, and the banquettes; five kinds of lighting fixtures; lots of sound and lighting items with exposed, hasty-looking wiring). The bathroom door doesn't really close and lock properly. And the restaurant is really loud, even half full. The writing on the menu, about family members and special recipes, tells me that there's pride here and real care about making a good restaurant. However, without the attention to detail (particularly cleanliness and hygiene!), that's kind of moot. I ordered the Traditional Fried Fish sandwich with a side of Onions Rings. The sandwich was very flavorful but was extremely thin. I was expecting a solid sized piece of fish, especially for being in the area it's located in. I decided to do the $3 up charge to switch to the onion rings instead of fries and it was a mistake. I only got around six of them and you could tell they were frozen and not homemade. Which is disappointing for a restaurant that has won awards for it's chowder. I also got to try a French Dip sandwich which was a special for the weekend. It was phenomenal. The Au Jus that came with it was one of the best I've had. The meat was tender and the bread was very fresh. The restaurant had a very unique vibe to it, not something you'll see often at other restaurants. The staff was super nice, and the girl at the front checking people in was working so hard! It was impressive.
