I have very fond memories of this restaurant because my grandparents always took me here when I visited them on the cape. It was busier than we expected for a weeknight. We had to wait about 15 minutes for a table and were seated in the tavern area, which was on the noisier side, so if you want a quiet dining experience it may be worth calling ahead to see if you can reserve a table in one of the other rooms. Our server was very friendly and attentive and I wish I remembered his name so that I could recognize him here. I purchased the Lobster BLT and loved it. Had family visit from off Cape and wanted everyone to experience seafood and familiar American dishes. Wimpy's Restaurant is the perfect place. Portions are generous and prepared with proper seasoning. Clam chowder is creamy and plentiful with clams and potatoes. The seafood platter, tuna, shrimp, oysters and fish and chips platters were a hit. The server was always around to make sure we had everything we needed. The bar area seating was the primary seating, unless you had a reservation for the dining room. Either place is fine to have dinner. Takeout is available for those, lazy, don't want to cook days and the portions are a good size. I would definitely recommend Wimpy's; plenty of parking spots, too. read more

We were only three and while we were eating an older couple came and sat at the table Seriously within minutes were we all finding common ground to converse Our meals were all delicious I had the blacked salmon taco. Yummy What I would like to share on this review is the care in which ,Trish ,our waitress took such good care to customize our orders and check several times to see if we were doing ok. Disclaimer: I went off-season, so I've gotten the "locals" experience and not the "tourist" experience. Off-season, we walked in the restaurant door and there was but a sign saying to turn right into the bar. We walked back through the closed, dark restaurant into the open, dim, wooded bar area. Classic. A couple of tables were occupied there but we chose to sit at the bar while waiting for packaged to-go from that other place just across the lot. (Disclaimer: You'd rather be at O'Reilly's.) The bartenders acknowledged us but - and maybe it's me just not knowing them well - the communication was difficult. Not the accents, just me trying to figure out how to get their attention and what they were trying to get from me. With that out of the way, I had a nice beer from the tap (not a big selection, but a couple of crafts available) and put in for a surprise - the prix fixe for the season. $25 for an appetizer (cup of soup), entree (seemed to be a smaller portion than off full menu, but that's fine, I already had an order at that other place), and dessert! The soup was good but more potato than quohog. I would have loved additional shellfish in my life. The scrod was very good but the breadcrumb coating was rather flavorless somehow - but nice and perfectly crispy, nothing to complain about. The dessert was the poorest - pumpkin pie that seemed to be canned filling in a prebaked crust. Soup came out quickly - we had preordered for pickup as a side and changed that to in-person, they said they hadn't even started the order when I checked in, but somehow that didn't affect the quickness! The meal did take a little while after that so the dessert became to-go. Ambiance - 5 stars. Wonderful bar/restobar place. Service - 4 stars. When the wrong sides came out with my order, they went right back in and fixed it quickly. The star deduction comes from communication - they didn't say how long it would be! I would say 5 stars if they can improve on that. Food - 3.5 stars. It's hard to judge from a quick impulse order where the portions may not be the same as the regular dinner items. So this is the most open to variation should I return next season. Which I certainly may. read more

We came in for lunch today and got a few appetizers, fried clams, fried calamari, and onion rings. The clams were the best we had in quite a while. Lightly battered, tender and flavorful. Remember Wimpy from the original Popeye cartoon? He'd gladly pay you Tuesday for a burger today, except that it looks like he's retired from the Hollywood business and opened up a restaurant in Cape Cod! We had a really good experience here. Granted; the restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside, but when you walk in it's very nice. The tavern area is cozy and inviting. You can tell this is a local spot. I also appreciated the fact that everyone got what they wanted here including my brother who is allergic to shellfish and did Wimpy proud by ordering a cheeseburger. Our waiter couldn't have been nicer or more serviceable. Also loved the fact that it wasn't bogged down by tourists, again, seems like a locals place. So we ordered the captains seafood platter (market price) but it was so big that three of us ate from it AND were full enough that we didn't have to order anything extra. Like I said previously, my brother ordered the cheeseburger which was big and juicy (see pic) it's funny because it's exactly the kind of burger I'd envision Wimpy eating. Holy Prison food, Batman! Wimpy's has historically been a great restaurant, but ever since the pandemic, this place is falling way downhill. The Quahog chowder is consistent and good, and thats about it. Main dish was the chicken pie - and let me tell you - it was re-heated and tasted like it was nuked. One bite and spat it out. The sides (potato and squash) were cold and served in balls - like an ice cream scoup. Inedible. Server was good - but oblivious to the fact that I had a full plate and spat the food out earlier. I didn't feel like bothering her with the issue as I was NEVER going back to this once great place. Everyone at my table aslo thought their food was pretty much prison worthy - this includes the chicken parm and the chicken marsala. The place needs a complete makeover and clearly someone who cares about the food they are serving. So basically, I dropped $160 for a meal for four people, then dropped another $30 at Taco Bell straight afterwards, because soggy cold tacos were an improvement over Wimpys. Sad. read more

We had lunch at Wimpy's today. I ordered the Chicken Pie. Always one of my favorites. Today it was burned on to the dish it was heated in (bottom crust). It was very dried out. When I told the server she did nothing. I called the restaurant when I got home and was hung up on. I have been going to Wimpy's for at least 30 years. I live in the area. I will not be going back. The website offers a fixed price dinner for $25 which includes a beverage (wine or soda) plus an entree and a dessert. Sounds good so my wife and I went there for dinner last night. Well, the menu at the restaurant did not include the free wine that was advertised on their website. The waitress, who was very pleasant, explained that the general manager had made a mistake. But if we wanted to try another establishment in Hyannis in which the general manager is involved, the fixed priced dinner with the complementary wine is available. Well golly gee. False advertising? Helped us put together a very last minute post-funeral luncheon for 40 people. Gave us the perfect private spot where we could relax and visit with each other, food was served buffet style and was carefully monitored and quickly replenished. Service was amazing and attentive. It's fine. Wimpy's is fine. They take reservations on the restaurant side, and after showing we were unaware, they still sat our large party with a 90 minute contingency. Appreciate the flexibility. Started the meal with calamari and a platter of onion rings, and both were fine. (The latter falling somewhere between thick batter donut rings and flaky, stringy onion wisps.) Dinner was the lobster roll with a cup of clam chowder, aka "the things you want daily when you're on the Cape so just pony up the $27 and feast on the special" special. The chowder is Legal-esque: thick and fairly clammy. The lobster roll sat in the middle of the pack, being more vegetal than I'd prefer but very meaty. Neighbor on my left had the prime rib and upon seeing it, I instantly experienced regret. Damn. Speaking of regret, the smoked old fashioned was absolutely disgusting. Bad whiskey and too much simple, I couldn't go back after the first sip. That said, the previous experience saw a solid shrimp scampi, so I guess a 2.5 is perfect because what Wimpy's does well, it does very well, but other entries are just bad. Or fine. Cute cute cute! We came here absolutely starving after driving up from Boston with one thing on our minds- lobstah rollsssss. That's exactly what we ordered, paired with drinks. It was my personal second lobster roll of the season and the best one to date. I couldn't fit the whole thing in my mouth for starters! As a side I ordered French fries and they were perfectly crispy. The setting felt as if we were in a log cabin, tvs at the bar, plenty of options on the menu for drink and eats. I think it can be very hit or miss. The food was great for one visit and terrible for the other. The take out was pretty bad so I wouldn't recommend that. Not only was the order wrong, the food was bland and kind of gross. The dine-in was actually kind of nice and the staff were very kind and accommodating. The entire restaurant is huge, much larger than expected when looking at it from the outside. There is outdoor seating in the front as well as in the back. Wimpy's has taken its bumps and bruises like all restaurants on the Cape. It's a different world when it comes to restaurants, as apposed to a few short years ago. The negative reviews tend to come from locals who don't like the changes that have taken place, and I understand their frustration. Prices are higher, the menu has slimmed down a bit, and obviously help is a concern throughout the industry. This all being said; Wimpy's is still an excellent restaurant with great food at reasonable prices. It's still a full menu restaurant with something for everyone. read more

A very good, bigger than it looks, old school seafood house, bar, and restaurant with a broad menu including many classics, friendly service, and good food. Comparing to others in town, I'd say it's similar too but much bigger than the Chart Room (which I prefer by one star), it's more than pizza/flatbread (think: Crisp, which isn't bad, but is pretty limited in selection), and it's not a fancy bistro like Five Bays (which is great but wow was it noisy when we were there). If I were town for several days, I'd go here first, Chart Room second, Five Bays third, and then go back to your favorite after that. Only downside here is extraordinarily broad menu which makes me question how everything can be both good and fresh. My advice is to come, but stay in the wheelhouse when ordering. read more

Not quite sure what has happened to one of our favorite restaurants. First, the staff is top notch. From the front of the house, to the servers, barteneders and rest of the staff, polite, friendly, and in recent months unfortunately over apologetic for the some of the negative changes that have been made. The menu has been seriously restricted, removing favorites such as TIps and Surf and the French Dip, scallops wrapped in bacon, clams casino to name a few. Also, who removes frozen drinks from a summer seaside menu? I know the restaurant business at times has issues, but why fix what isn't broken? We had an awesome dinner and time tonight and the staff at Wimpy's are the ones responsible. Our food was very good and presented very nicely the waitstaff was very friendly and helpful.
