I haven't been here in years. I worked here more than 20 years ago and so much has changed. It brings back some good memories from my younger days. We visit several times during the year. This is a nice NEX and a benefit we enjoy as retired military. They are divided into two separate buildings with the garden shop in between. The photos were from the time we switched from Verizon to T-Mobile. A kiosk is located within the building, which houses electronics, household goods, sports/gym equipment, sundries, furniture, appliances, a bank, and a separate place for awards, shadow boxes, plaques, etc. The other building has clothing, accessories like shoes, bags, jewelry and perfumes and is a 2-story building. Everything is so clean, bright, and organized. We were able to switch over to T/Mobile and saved money. The young ladies, who helped us were very patient & friendly. We bought a few items and check out was quick & very hospitable! read more

This review is for the NEX at 32nd Street San Diego Home Store and for the ASURION company that sells bogus warranty that are not honored in these stores. This is all regarding A defective LED screen on a NUWAVE Oven that I purchased there with an extended warranty. I grew up in San Diego, I joined the military and ended my military career teaching here in point Loma at the ASW base. I bring up this fact to show that I have been in San Diego shopping at the different navy exchanges and other stores on the base, or should I say back in San Diego since 1996 or 1997, and I know for a fact that anytime that I purchased an electronic item and paid for the asurion warranty that the representatives at the cash register explained to me that AFTER my product warranty of one year expired, that the Asurion warranty would take over and begin at that point. I confessed that I hate discussing anything with Management at the navy exchange because it's like talking to a brick wall. When I attempted to bring up this fact and use my Paid warranty because my new wave oven LED board stopped working and if they were to honor the warranty as they stated when I purchased this device, I would still be covered until June 13, 2024, but the navy Exchange Management refuses to honor that warranty. I took my request for Warranty Service to the customer service desk, where the lady who helped me has worked there for years and I remember her from a minimum of having worked there for 15 years. She explained to me that my warranty is still good until June 13, 2024 and went over the fact that I had the one year warranty first, then the Asurion warranty would begin. The employee called a manager, who stated that the warranty ran consecutive with the manufacture warranty, yet that is 100% without a doubt, not what was sold to me and they refused to honor what they sold and how they sold it. I walked back to the electronics department to discuss the same issue with those employees, and the first lady that I spoke with said the exact same thing that the initial lady said, that the warranties ran concurrent not consecutively, but she is only an employee and not a manager, like the one that I spoke with. Manager follow me back to the area, where I was speaking with those employees, and I explained to him that I wasn't trying to undermine him, I was trying to confirm what I already knew to be true, while also educating his employees. This guy said that he would send out an email to all of the department people to let them know how it supposed to work, which does nothing for me. It's a total slap in the face from the navy exchange at 32nd Street, from the Asurion company whom refused to honor this warranty. The navy exchange, Employee explained to me that the warranties were differently because the original warranty covers limited incident as the Asurion covered accidents like drop and spills, etc. I appreciate him telling me that, but I really don't care because it is not what was sold to me! The navy exchange at 32nd Street owes me $139.99 for stupid new Way loving that's only been used 12 times at the most yet the LED panel is unreadable. I can't tell time with it or set temperature or know how long it is before anything is finished cooking. It's a waste of money and looks brand new. I hate me and I hope, I will keep my hopes to myself. I have used this oven less than 12 times and it is a waste of my money and I want it fixed replaced or refund and they won't do either at the Exchange or the warranty company. ASURION. Save your money and don't try to get any resolution for the navy exchange employees because you will not get it. They are robots at best and those robots say no no no no no I can't help you. The NEX staff are cool and helpful. I just wish they had more staff and this may due to the holidays. The NEX is definitely the spot for groceries as I'm able to buy meats at a very affordable price unlike outside grocery stores. They have a wide variety of fresh veggies and fruits and wide variety selection of meat cuts. This place hands down is the place to buy your steaks I found packages of 3 New York steaks from prices anywhere $13-16 and chicken wings from $7-9 bucks so check them out if your in the military/ vet, & in the area to save. We also were able to purchase a PS5 for the kiddos for a really affordable price. read more

Just constantly disappointed by this store. Poor selection, prices just as high as off base, poor customer service and a selection of brands that makes WalMart look like Neiman Marcus in comparison. Bought a pair of sunglasses during a sunglasses sale, which ended the next day. A week later the glasses (RayBans) basically fall apart. I take them back to the store and the lady tells me I can return them and get a new pair. I clarify that I want to exchange them (so I dont spend any additional money on the same exact style). She tells me "we dont do it like that...you have to return them" ask to speak to a manager who says they DO do that. They dont have the style in stock so she wants to give me the tester pair, which I decline (so, a pair of glasses that perhaps hundreds of people have tried on...for regular price? no.) I ask if they can order them or if I can get a raincheck "we dont do that." Literally dont with this place. The tax free status is counterbalanced by them not being any lower priced than what you would find at Target or Amazon, so basically you're just paying for crappier customer service and general ineptitude. read more

I'm no expert, that's why I had the pawn shop look at them. I decided not to tell my wife that she's carrying fake handbags. read more

Normally the Navy Exchange isn't known for outstanding customer service but today I was initially help by Samantha who assisted me with the Weber grill I eventually purchased. I asked if there was a discount on the floor model and she quickly spoke with Tim. Tim was very quick to assist as well and even provided a discount and mentioned the scratch off offer which I ended up getting an extra 5% off. I asked if I could pick the grill up tomorrow and Tim was very helpful with that as well. He asked me if I wanted to take some of the parts with me so other customers would know it was sold. He even placed a SOLD sign as well. Tim stated that he would have someone assist me tomorrow to load it in my SUV. I really appreciated the service I was provided by both Samantha and Tim. I will definitely go to the Exchange before I shop anywhere else!! read more

This NEX is nice and the people are relatively nice. This is mainly about their prices/policy. I grew up in the military. It used to be their policy to serve those that serve us offering name brand products at low prices. That is still their slogan but it couldn't be more further from the truth. You don't pay tax, but they hike the prices so high that you never or rarely get a deal. People drive a distance to get deals here and they should shop in their local area because they usually have better or competitive prices. Sorry to say but these places are in it for money/profit. Among the Bases around San Diego, this one is my Favorite. I do my Grocery here and do the shopping for our clothes etc. It's a bigger shopping area, they have 2 floors for shopping. There is Clothing, jewelry, shoes, bags, etc. The grocery store here is big and well organized. Active personnel and their family members, Veterans, and Retirees are the only ones with access to any Bases or can shop here. We come here often since we are already retired Military , and we have now lots of time to visit this Base. Friends and Family can come into this Base too but Only if you are with a Person with a Military ID active or retired. read more

Great Navy Exchange! It's pretty much a Macy's! This is one of the nicest exchanges I've been to. I've been to the Travis Airforce Base in NorCal and I already thought that was a nice one. This hands down takes the cake! The have a separate store for furniture, electronics and fashion. I love the cosmetics that they have here! They carry Victoria's Secret, Bath & Body Works, MAC, Benefit etc. My favorite part was all the high-end designers! They had Versace, Ted Baker London, Tory Burch, Kate Spade! Such a great exchange area. Walking in, it mirrored a Macys/Target/Century21 (store in East Coast) feel. I would shop here way more - if I lived closer and with my Navy friend. As many have mentioned, not everyone can access this place. I definitely liked their sunglasses/shades department - for the $5 glasses deals and assortment of styles. Definitely saw better deals in shoes, clothing, bags, etc. I'm one that loves to shop for a good deal. If it's not a deal I consider good, consider my wallet closed. They had a couple of amusing packets of things - like those gifts to make your life easier. The best thing? Everything is tax free. Humongous parking lot. Pretty clean. read more

I don't know but this has to be one of the largest Navy Exchanges in the US. So large, it takes up two buildings with one of them being two stories. They tend to carry the latest products and always have a good sale going on. You'll always see people racking up on the clearance deals. The cool thing about the military exchanges is that a large portion of the profits they make go right into MWR benefits (morale and welfare programs). And there's no sales tax which comes in handy on big ticket items like TVs, cameras and computers. This location carries a little bit of everything including bedroom, living room furniture, appliances, electronics, shoes, clothing, and everything else you'd find at a department store. Look at those cases of soda out front. I don't know what the sale special is but they're going fast. They always have vendors to keep things interesting like the guy selling fresh roasted pecans and other nuts or the table with the delicious looking cookies. read more

Hello Kitty welcomes you to the Navy Exchange at the Naval Base in San Diego! Walking into the Navy Exchange or NEX for short was quite a sight to see for me! It's literally like walking into a department store. Upstairs is the electronics and shoe sections. Downstairs is jewelry, designer bags, perfume, clothing and the hello kitty section! Yes, I said a hello kitty section. I was already one happy girl when I spotted the jewelry and bags section downstairs but then I walked a little bit more and I saw a whole section of Hello Kitty stuff laid out. There it was rows of hello kitty plushes, purses, stationary....like a giant welcoming party for this eager shopper hehe. It was a very "Ooh Aah Am I in Heaven?" moment for this hello kitty fan. A lot of the hello kitty items were some of the newest items being offered by Sanrio (i.e limited edition Tokidoki stuff!) Now you may wonder why I was so excited to shop here. See at the NEX, there is no sales tax for your purchases. There are also some discounts for some items in the store (for example, women's sweaters that day were 40% off). The best thing for me was seeing the Sanrio section 20% off! There were also additional discounts on all the Hello Kitty jewelry! Aside from that they had a clearance section where some HK goodies were 60% off. Hello Kitty happiness right there! It is a lot of fun shopping at the NEX and it really is nice to have to not pay sales tax. Not everyone can shop here however. You will need a military ID to shop here. I came here with my family today. My dad is retired Navy so he gets benefits of shopping here all the time. I unfortunately lost my military identification privileges after finishing college. That is the max age you can keep an identification card for when you are a kid of a parent that's military. Anyway, my daughter, myself, my brother and his girlfriend got to go here with my parents in two separate cars. Parking gets full but you find parking fast. As I entered, they house two separate buildings. One is clothing, jewelry and shoes. Nice selection. I also saw high end makeup. Makeup heaven here. I only got a pink shirt that was $7.00. I was in shopping heaven. Haha. We went in the other building which had electronics, stuff for the house, etc. My dad bought my daughter a Mine Craft video game, and I found these glass water bottles for $1.00 at the dollar bin. Great deals! There's no tax here which is nice. I may come here with my parents next time. I definitely had a great shopping experience here. The other building we went into was a food court which had Subway, Five Guys, Panda Express, Rubio's, etc. Eat here if you get hungry shopping. Great Navy Exchange location! read more

I like the Navy Exchange on 32nd street. I am pretty sure you can get hugger savings on kids shoes out in town. When I get the ads or emails for Nike and under Armour shoes, I take off running towards SD to see if I can save some money. Operation shoe shopping for 6 Grandkids!!! My visits here the last few times have turned up NOTHING. Yes, 20% off on these brands but there's NEVER EVER any inventory! So disappointing and after driving an hour to get here! I have started to go to Dick's Sporting goods. I can find shoes in the $30-$50 range all day long and in every size imaginable! No more driving to SD for a sale. It's a waste of time. What ever happened to really good sales on the base????? Count me out and please take me off your email list! LOL! I still like the Commissary next door so thanks to that, NEX gets 3 stars read more

Out of the few military retail stores I visited, this is probably the largest I've been to and its located San Diego's Navy Base. Not everyone can access this place, it caters to active military, service retirees and certain civilians. My parents have been coming here for years and they would rave about their array of goods to choose from at decent prices and tax free. I was looking forward in finding good deals in the men's dept. but I ended up leaving empty handed. Not one item there catches my eye. Their men's wear upstairs feels like an older 90's Mervyn's clothing store and their major name brands looked very out of style. I did like their watch and sunglass departments, it's similar to Macy's. If you're into fashion, I suggest go to a local mall. My favorite part of the Navy Exchange is the electronics, because it's always exciting to check out the latest gadgets. Also, it appears that they hold occasional video game tournaments, which is very cool to have, and to keep our service men and women entertained. I was so bored and in no mood of shopping, my brother and I spent half an hour at the video game kiosks while my mom, my wife, and sister in-law do their shopping. There's a food court. Out of the seven fast food counters inside, I opted for Panda Express and it felt buying a meal there was slightly higher than normal. Overall, it's probably the oldest military retail stores around without a facelift, but it gets an okay grade from me for being the central point for necessities and useful services. read more

This is a pretty awesome NEX. Somewhat comparable to the NEX in Norfolk if you've visited that one (although I would say Norfolk's NEX is a bit bigger and more put together). This NEX has an interesting set up due to the fact that it's broken into two separate parts. There is one store for Electronics and Furniture - this store also contains the cards and stationery, household items, GNC, personal care, make up (think drugstore), and etc. Then there is another store that is the NEX Fashion Store, which contains all clothing items, shoes, make-up (think Sephora/MAC), Navy pride, jewelry, food court, etc. This NEX is definitely awesome and has a very good selection of items. Of course the prices are pretty good and there's no tax charged. The employees can be hit or miss - I definitely wouldn't say that they're the most helpful or nice employees I've encountered, but they aren't usually intentionally rude or anything like that. Overall, 8/10, do recommend. read more

One building covers fashion items for men and women plus jewelry. A separate building is for electronics, furniture and garden supply. There are so many things to check out. Andrew might actually be the rudest customer service rep I've met in a while. Came in to spend more than $1500 for my dad and he was extremely rude from the start and impatient with us. Asked for the manager (he was pretty awesome!) and then he stormed from the register and proceeded to say "Great, because I'm not going to wait on you guys anymore". Excuse me? We were there to purchase something from you and we are the ones bothering you? And good job enforcing a weird policy where a son can't use his credit card to pay for his dad because he's not the gov ID holder even though he's standing right next to me. I like this Navy Exchange on North Island but this is no Nordstrom. You have to search for someone to help you if you have a question. The exchange on Coronado or Miramar has better customer service. If you know exactly what you're looking for you won't have any problem. Otherwise good luck. read more

For Fashion store: This is a great fashion store! It's a lot like Macy's, it has many clothes options, but the Shoe source isn't too high, it's limited, not as much as Kohls, or the Vans store. It has a small section for little kid's toys. It has a Mac shop inside, it has a good selection of perfumes, watches, and many other things. Not a single problem here. For Electronics, and Home store: Most of the stuff was moved from the Fashion store to the Home store, this place has all the electronics, it is like a Lowes, and a Best Buy in one. This also has medication, gardening, and many other things. There's many TVS, computers, game's and more! It's awesome. For Food Court: This food court has many restaurants, such as Subway, Starbucks, KFC, Rubios, Five Guys, Pizza Hut Express, Cold Stone, and Surf city squeeze Etc. The tables aren't clean every time though. For Pharmacy, and Gift shop: Usually the Pharmacy takes a while, but it'll get what you need. The gift shop has many stuff, it's worth checking out. For Barbershop: This Barbershop is the main one I visit, it's cheap, and it's fast. There is a TV in the waiting room, that hasn't been replaced for like 8 years, but what matters is the barbers. The barbers are GREAT! They know what they're doing. For Liquor: I came here today and it's huge just for a Liquor store, there's a walk in fridge, many options for your drinks. There is a section for drinks like Pepsi, Arizona tea, and many other stuff. In the front, there's junk food like chips, popcorn, candy etc. The service is great! I remember as a kid my parents taking me here after Sunday mass. We'd shop for groceries, eat in the food court, sometimes I'd get my haircut here as well. It's been years since I've stepped foot here. Coming here recently, things have changed a lot. The commissary is now located in a different building down the road. Where the old commissary is now, they converted it into an home and electronics store. The main NEX building I remember as a kid now is a department store that sells fashion wear, make up, some home goods...all carrying your major brand names without the sales tax. Where do I start?!?! This place is like a high-end Walmart. Or a one-store Mall! To call it a "WalMart" might actually be insulting because the quality of their selection is not even in the same league. Let me explain why I called it "WalMart": They have EVERYTHING! Flat Screen TV, exercise machine, sports equipment, video games, video consoles, you name it! And they are all under the same roof. Not only that there's the "Mall" section too. So think of the designers that you normally would see inside an anchor store in the mall... they have their own section and display right? That's exactly what they have here! And then there were the shoes.... Sigh!! Yeah, I didn't get to see HALF of this place. And then when you check-out, they give you a scratcher and you can win various "prizes." Or discounts. My uncle got the 15% off your total bill one which is not too shabby. This is on top of the "no-tax" discount customers get. AND, if you find an ad that has a lower price outside of the Navy Exchange, they will match it! Cool huh? OK, the downside? You have to be military to even get to the compound that houses this store. Wah wah wah... So yeah, next time I'm visiting my uncle, I'm gonna be ready!! read more

Honestly, how have I not reviewed the Navy Exchange yet? I've been going to this place ever since I was a mere toddler, literally. Ever since my first visit here, of course there have been a multitude of changes--all for the better! To enter, you must be in the military, retired from the military, have a non-expired military ID (obviously belonging to you) because you're immediate family to someone in the military. Somewhere along those lines. This way, when you're at the entrance, you're able to show the guards your military ID card to get inside. First off, the Navy Exchange is now split into to separate buildings. The main building, which is the first one in started in, is the bigger of the two main buildings. It actually says "NEX Navy Exchange" at the entrance... and it, indeed, does have a more noticeable entrance as opposed to the other building. This main NEX has the jewelry, designer bags, clothing for juniors and above, and make-up in the downstairs area. The second/top floor consists of the items/clothing for toddlers. Basically, this is more of the "mall"-type NEX. The building to the left of it, the smaller one, has all of the snacks, essentials/hygienics etc, as well as the electronics (which used to be in the second floor of the main building), gardening supplies, and home decor and design. I would consider it a type of "Bed, Bath & Beyond" or "Target". Both buildings are the yin and yang to one another, because what one building doesn't have, the other building does. What's great about this place is the fact that, most of the time, the prices are cheaper than what you would find at any chain of domestic retail stores. Also, there is no SALES TAX. Amazing, right?! Sometimes, mostly during the Holiday season, there are tents set up in front of the smaller NEX building with Christmas trees and other decorations. Or, there are tents set up with outdoor furniture and what not in general. The customer service isn't always the greatest, but I mean, the prices are great compared to outside brands and such. You come across kind, and spunky people, but once in a while, there are certain people who seem as if they don't enjoy their job. read more
