Honestly...if I could give 0 stars I would. Hate to be such a downer since I saw so many good reviews about her, but I personally had a bad experience and won't be coming back. I came in asking for a dry cut--not sure what I was expecting but certainly not for her to sloppily cut it in under 10 minutes and then leave to work on another client. She didn't even bother to ask how I wanted it cut. I thought she might've treated me this way because I'm not her regular clientele, but after going through her reviews, I found another person who had the exact same experience. For this 10-minute fiasco, she told me I would be charged $55. I expressed that I didn't think that was fair since she was charging me for both shampoo & styling even though I didn't ask for them. To that, she said she always charges $55 no matter if a customer wants a wash and styling or not but she bre grudgingly told me she could take off a few dollars this one time. Left incredibly unsatisfied and paid $45 for a cut I could've done myself. Based on her reviews, it seems that Nayoung does have the skills to be an exceptional hairstylist--just not on clients she doesn't think are worth her time. read more

I've been looking for a hair salon to do a Japanese straightening for my daughter and contacted Nayoung. The first contact over the phone was difficult because the person who received the call did not speak or understand well English. It took several messages and calls to communicate and the experience was slightly unpleasant. I explained precisely what I needed and she told me that she could do it starting from $200 which sounded cheaper than other salons were quoting. That convinced me to make an appointment and drive there (I live an hour away). Once onsite, the stylist looked at my daughter's hair and announced that she would charge $1000 for this touch up, then offered a "student" discount at $800. This is higher than any other salon quoted and I felt it was dishonest to attract customers with very cheap prices then increase them dramatically once the customer is onsite. I couldn't obviously get the service at this price and walked away. read more

I drove about 6hrs from Arkansas to Dallas specifically for Nayoung's Japanese permanent hair straightening since I don't have anyone offering the service where I live. It's well worth it! And both Nayoung and Peter are super efficient and friendly. The made the whole process happen for me for under 3 hrs (usually takes longer for me since I have a lot of hair). I just moved here from California and was looking for a good hair salon. Found Nayoung thru yelp and booked an appointment by phone. It was a very quick and easy process to book my appointment. I arrived for my appointment, and she pretty much started my haircut right away. I think I came when it wasn't too busy, but anyhow I think she's good with scheduling her appointments. Nayoung is extremely skilled and professional. Plus she's really fast! I think my haircut was done in about 15 mins. After that, her staff shampooed my hair, and then Nayoung also dried & styled my hair. All that within 30 mins. She does it fast but she is extremely thorough, so I was very impressed. I have spend numerous dollars on products, Brazilian blowouts, etc. i discovered what a Japanese thermal straightening treatment is and I found Nayoung - reviews were amazing. I scheduled an appointment & went the same week. I was very nervous to get it done but as soon as I walked in, I felt at home. Nayoung and her assistants were the sweetest ever. I will not go anywhere else but to her now. The best experience. My hair: is VERY curly. After getting 3 Brazilian blowouts, it just wasn't working anymore. I needed something permanent that I didn't have to use heat on my hair every day because I work out 5-6 days a week and it was exhausting to do my hair EVERY day. She asked for a haircut and they made sure to wash, blow dry, and style her hair. she never showed them a picture of what she wanted before hand, but the result was exactly what she wanted. Nayoung and her staff are very efficient! She works with 2 other ladies who help her during the appointment. She gives excellent tips and will tell you if a style is suited for you! Nayoung and her girls are super attentive to their customers. The only downside is that the prices are high and there is a little bit of a language barrier. Otherwise, she does excellent work. I got a digital perm and came back the next day to tone a previous balayage that I had gotten from a different salon that had turned brassy. The digital perm took about 2 hours (fastest service ever) with all hands on deck and the toning took about 45 minutes. The curls looks a little crazy the first day, but after the toning they looked more tame and like what I wanted. I will be back again! read more

NEVER BEEN SO HAPPY WITH MY HAIR! I had very dark hair and tried to go lighter several times at various salon and they all failed to get me to a color I was happy with (usually turned orange). I scheduled an appointment with Nayoung for a balayage and I've never been more happy with my hair! At NaYoung's I got a men's perm/haircut. NaYoung and her assistants gave me a wonderful experience! When I first showed NaYoung what I wanted, she really talked to me about how she would be able to achieve what I wanted with my kind of hair and it's lengths and was very honest and critical to make sure that I was also knowledgeable in what the end product would be. Once you get to D salon, parking is easy enough and you can ask the receptionist to be directed to Nayoung. Very sweet hairstylist and will give you her opinion of what will look good on you. I totally recommend Nayoung (and her wonderful assistants!!) for all your hair needs, especially if you have thick Asian hair that can be difficult to work with. I actually went in with intention of getting a digital perm, but after discussing with Nayoung and her assistants, we determined that the perm wouldn't hold in my hair because it was so damaged by the full highlights I'd gotten half a year ago. So I changed to getting a haircut and color, and my hair turned out much healthier and shiny-looking, much revived from its previous state. They do work quite efficiently, and they work on other clients as they wait on your hair, but I didn't feel like I was forgotten or anything. I was out in less than 2 hours. Seeing many good reviews I hate to be a downer. SO I made my appointment for 2pm and and ended up staying for more than 5 hours. I went in for a digital perm and for two hours the hair stylist kept saying that my Hair is difficult to work with and that it seems impossible and kept on repeating it. While she was doing my hair she seemed like she reallly did not want to be there and there was some tension with her assistants. They were speaking in Korean and they didn't know I was also Korean and could Understand everything they were saying. I ended up staying way longer than I should've have. She would work on my hair for thirty min half done and move on the the next person and it ended up being 5 hours of sitting here waiting for partial attention to my hair. Not to mention, she went on a dinner break while I sat here waiting for her to come back and undo my hair from the digital machine and then complained about it to me like it was my fault. The appointment was just kinda a hot mess. She almost dropped hot iron on me, sprayed solution on my face while in a hurry at the hair washing station to get me out of there And burped like she was at home or something. I get that we all do it but she didn't even bat an eye. Just felt unprofessional. Oh and not to mention that I look like a poodle. I asked for relaxed waves and she literally disregarded everything I said and did whatever she wanted. Don't recommend at all. Edit: She ended up texting and sending me a screenshot of my review and insisted that my time for the appointment was incorrectly described when that was one of my least concerns. Disappointing how businesses gets defensive instead of stepping up and taking the critic to better their business. The biggest advice I can give you is to tell her what you want from the beginning. Give NaYoung as much detail as possible so she knows what you're looking for. Pictures, descriptive adjectives, and style. She is fully bilingual so no worries about her not understanding. Heck tell her what your personality is. After you told her, let HER do her thing. She is very skilled and she knows your hair better than you. Sometimes she likes your idea and she does it and you'll love it. Sometimes she thinks what you want for your hair won't look good so she will advise you. Better off ask her what SHE thinks. She will probably make your hair look even better than what you wanted. She's good experienced and responsive, and if you don't like your hair after she works on it, you're more than likely the problem. As for the experience, there is a separate person who will wash your hair for you and give you a neck massage. Which is extremely satisfying and its not a quick 123. They really get down to the details, the shop doesn't have that barber shop odor that I personally hate. It's very clean and modern without the overkill. Prices are not super expensive but not cheap. She always has helpers for misc tasks, but when it comes to the important stuff like the cut or mixing a color she's hands on. My mom, sister & I have been coming to Nayoung for our hair for years (5+, probably more). Nayoung is an extremely capable hairstylist. She also knows East Asian hair really well; her expertise has saved me many times. She's very direct about what, according to her experience, will be possible for your hair. I am direct and clear about what I want, and we talk together and figure out what will work, and I always walk away happy. Last year, she helped me color all of my hair purple. I wanted to go for a grey-lavender, but she said that it wouldn't be possible off the bat with my naturally black hair--it would need to be brighter and fade into that. So we bleached my hair to a brassy yellow, then colored with purple dye. It came out very bright, and I loved it, even though it wasn't what I first pictured. Then over the course of the year it faded into really beautiful hues of blue, purple, green and pink, and finally a nice blonde with no brassiness (toned out by the purple). It seemed to change every week and I loved it. Nayoung also uses very high quality products, so even with all the bleaching and dyeing, my hair was quite healthy & flowed naturally. People always commented on how healthy it looked and felt for all the color. This year, I decided to try a very short cut. I came armed with photos from Pinterest, and she explained what I could do with my very fine hair. The cut didn't take long at all, and then they washed my hair and spent a while styling it. I asked what products they were using, and they showed me and gave me recommendations for how to style and care for my cut. The most important quality in a hair salon is the degree of trust you can put in it. My mother and I have been coming to Ms. Nayoung for about a decade, and I can attest that my sometimes blind trust has never been misplaced. I'm not really someone who thoroughly researches hairstyles before I go in for a haircut. Usually, I only have the vaguest of ideas of what I want to do with my hair, but perhaps this is when Nayoung does her best work. Somehow, she always takes my frustratingly nondescriptive requests and makes me look good. Even if I feel skeptical about a certain cut immediately afterwards, within 24 hours, I always fall in love. We've come here for basically everything--cuts, perms, dyes, highlights. One of the reasons we keep returning is for the long last of each of these treatments. So even if they can be on the pricier end, they're always worth your money! My tip for visiting this salon is to come with an open mind, and always trust Nayoung's judgment. If you come in really set on a certain style, and Nayoung asks you if you're sure about it, that's your cue to start rethinking lol. Of course, she'll do whatever you ask of her, but in my experience, the best results come of letting her take the lead on your look. I've lived in LA for the past 7 years and after trying a few overpriced and sub par salons there, I decided to stick to Na Young, guaranteeing the color and haircut I want every time! My mom comes here at least once a month for root coloring and I get natural highlights and trims here. She also always squeezes us in however last minute our requests are. So thankful!
