I totally recommend Nayoung (and her wonderful assistants!!) for all your hair needs, especially if you have thick Asian hair that can be difficult to work with. I actually went in with intention of getting a digital perm, but after discussing with Nayoung and her assistants, we determined that the perm wouldn't hold in my hair because it was so damaged by the full highlights I'd gotten half a year ago. So I changed to getting a haircut and color, and my hair turned out much healthier and shiny-looking, much revived from its previous state. They do work quite efficiently, and they work on other clients as they wait on your hair, but I didn't feel like I was forgotten or anything. I was out in less than 2 hours. Seeing many good reviews I hate to be a downer. SO I made my appointment for 2pm and and ended up staying for more than 5 hours. I went in for a digital perm and for two hours the hair stylist kept saying that my Hair is difficult to work with and that it seems impossible and kept on repeating it. While she was doing my hair she seemed like she reallly did not want to be there and there was some tension with her assistants. They were speaking in Korean and they didn't know I was also Korean and could Understand everything they were saying. I ended up staying way longer than I should've have. She would work on my hair for thirty min half done and move on the the next person and it ended up being 5 hours of sitting here waiting for partial attention to my hair. Not to mention, she went on a dinner break while I sat here waiting for her to come back and undo my hair from the digital machine and then complained about it to me like it was my fault. The appointment was just kinda a hot mess. She almost dropped hot iron on me, sprayed solution on my face while in a hurry at the hair washing station to get me out of there And burped like she was at home or something. I get that we all do it but she didn't even bat an eye. Just felt unprofessional. Oh and not to mention that I look like a poodle. I asked for relaxed waves and she literally disregarded everything I said and did whatever she wanted. Don't recommend at all. The biggest advice I can give you is to tell her what you want from the beginning. Give NaYoung as much detail as possible so she knows what you're looking for. Pictures, descriptive adjectives, and style. She is fully bilingual so no worries about her not understanding. Heck tell her what your personality is. After you told her, let HER do her thing. She is very skilled and she knows your hair better than you. Sometimes she likes your idea and she does it and you'll love it. Sometimes she thinks what you want for your hair won't look good so she will advise you. Better off ask her what SHE thinks. She will probably make your hair look even better than what you wanted. She's good experienced and responsive, and if you don't like your hair after she works on it, you're more than likely the problem. As for the experience, there is a separate person who will wash your hair for you and give you a neck massage. Which is extremely satisfying and its not a quick 123. They really get down to the details, the shop doesn't have that barber shop odor that I personally hate. It's very clean and modern without the overkill. Prices are not super expensive but not cheap. My mom, sister & I have been coming to Nayoung for our hair for years (5+, probably more). Nayoung is an extremely capable hairstylist. She also knows East Asian hair really well; her expertise has saved me many times. She's very direct about what, according to her experience, will be possible for your hair. I am direct and clear about what I want, and we talk together and figure out what will work, and I always walk away happy. Last year, she helped me color all of my hair purple. I wanted to go for a grey-lavender, but she said that it wouldn't be possible off the bat with my naturally black hair--it would need to be brighter and fade into that. So we bleached my hair to a brassy yellow, then colored with purple dye. It came out very bright, and I loved it, even though it wasn't what I first pictured. Then over the course of the year it faded into really beautiful hues of blue, purple, green and pink, and finally a nice blonde with no brassiness (toned out by the purple). It seemed to change every week and I loved it. Nayoung also uses very high quality products, so even with all the bleaching and dyeing, my hair was quite healthy & flowed naturally. People always commented on how healthy it looked and felt for all the color. This year, I decided to try a very short cut. I came armed with photos from Pinterest, and she explained what I could do with my very fine hair. The cut didn't take long at all, and then they washed my hair and spent a while styling it. I asked what products they were using, and they showed me and gave me recommendations for how to style and care for my cut. The most important quality in a hair salon is the degree of trust you can put in it. My mother and I have been coming to Ms. Nayoung for about a decade, and I can attest that my sometimes blind trust has never been misplaced. I'm not really someone who thoroughly researches hairstyles before I go in for a haircut. Usually, I only have the vaguest of ideas of what I want to do with my hair, but perhaps this is when Nayoung does her best work. Somehow, she always takes my frustratingly nondescriptive requests and makes me look good. Even if I feel skeptical about a certain cut immediately afterwards, within 24 hours, I always fall in love. We've come here for basically everything--cuts, perms, dyes, highlights. One of the reasons we keep returning is for the long last of each of these treatments. So even if they can be on the pricier end, they're always worth your money! My tip for visiting this salon is to come with an open mind, and always trust Nayoung's judgment. If you come in really set on a certain style, and Nayoung asks you if you're sure about it, that's your cue to start rethinking lol. Of course, she'll do whatever you ask of her, but in my experience, the best results come of letting her take the lead on your look. I had never felt so unconfident because of my hair until I went to this salon. The similarly between what I got and the picture I showed them was 0% similar. I showed them a tomboy haircut and perm but they gave me a princess girly hairstyle which was totally different from what I wanted. I went back many times to fix my hair but my hair never got any closer to any picture I showed to them. What even worse was that none of my friends thought I got a good hairstyle and all of them agreed that my hair completely got f*ck up. Honestly, in some ways, I don't even want to write this review because Nayoung is the secret to my hair! For over 10 years (literally childhood), I've been trusting her with my hair. Whether its different kinds of perms (any korean or american style) to color treatments (latest is a balayage) to haircuts, there's nothing that has disappointed me. I've gotten almost anything you can think of for hair. She's very up to date with the trends and knows how to do it well. I know it can seem a little expensive, but it's so much better than having to go back and get it fixed. I'm so happy to have found Nayoung and Jin at Salon D! I've been having my hair thermally straightened for over a decade and going to the same person the entire time. I really dreaded going to that other salon for a multitude of reasons, so I started looking for someone new and was impressed by Nayoung's reviews. I had Nayoung and Jin straighten my hair yesterday and I'm so pleased!!!! I'm much happier with with results and price structure and their personalities. They actually tell you up front what it will cost after they look at your hair. My old person couldn't give estimates and simply charged by the hour. It made it extraordinarily frustrating when she'd play on her phone and there was so much downtime that it always took my old person 4 hours or more to straighten my hair. Nayoung and Jin did a better job and it only took 2.5 hours because they worked diligently and weren't trying to burn the clock. I couldn't believe how little downtime there actually was -- I also couldn't believe one step only needed to take 7 minutes instead of the 30-40 minutes it had always taken with my old person. Nayoung and Jin charged almost exactly what I paid my old person, but the experience was much more enjoyable and the results are superior and my time was never wasted. I saved 1.5 hours! Also, there was no frustration with a surprise price tag at the end because Nayoung and Jin told me up front exactly what it would cost! With my old person, the bottom layer of my hair was always frizzy by bedtime on the first night and I'd have to flatiron it before bed and when I woke each day. No big deal, BUT that didn't happen with Nayoung and Jin. They have a slightly different technique at one stage of the process and it made all the difference. Also, at the old place the person usually commented on my weight and said other unflattering things and by the time I left, my self esteem felt low and I dreaded going back. That didn't happen with Nayoung and Jin. Nayoung and Jin were fun and easy to visit with during the 2.5 hour process. I looked and felt great when I left. For years, I have dreaded going to the salon for a long, drawn out, and exhausting experience, BUT NOW I cannot wait to go back to see Nayoung and Jin. I usually don't write reviews and specially bad ones. I've been going to different salons for about 10 years now, and I had some super awesome to not-so-great experiences. But this one was the worst experience EVER. 1. When she first saw me, she said 'your hair color is really dark, you should get some coloring' and I said 'yeah maybe i need it'. And as soon as I set down, she started to put some chemical on my hair, I assumed it was some perming chemical because I was gonna get haircut and perm. But I thought it was weird because I haven't told her what kinda hair cut or perm I wanna get. So I asked her what it was, and she said it was for coloring. WTF?! I didn't even get to choose what kind of color I want on my hair? Then, she showed me what color she was putting on my hair, and or course it was not the color I want on my hair! And guess what?! I didn't wanna color my hair at all!!!! 2. I tried to think of the first happening as miscommunication and tried to be understanding. I showed her the picture of my previous hair and told her that's the kind of perm I want. I got that perm in California for many times and they always use giant rolls for perm. So the perm has very big curves/waves and looks very natural on me. She started using very small rolls for my hair, and I've never seen anyone using those small rolls for such big curves/waves that I requested. So I asked her some questions about it and explained how my previous hair stylist did my hair. She started to raise her voice and said that's the biggest hair perm rolls (don't know the correct name of it) and bigger rolls don't exist. Really? yelling at customer for explaining how her hair was done previously? 3. For the entire appointment, she was kept scratching my neck. Her nails were so long and sharp, I had 6 red scratched marks on back of my neck. So unprofessional. 4. During my appointment, she was working on some other people at the same time and that is totally fine with me. What made me so uncomfortable was how she treated different people differently. IF YOU ARE YOUNG ASIAN GIRL, SHE WILL TREAT YOU LIKE SHIT. Like I said, I've been going to many different salons for about 10 years and I had different experiences. Nayoung is the best at what she does. She is an expert at cutting mens hair as far as i'm concerned. I have been using her now for a little over a year. There have been several times when I wanted to try different hair styles so I would take her a picture of what I was going for, and she has always been able to do exactly that style. People at my office always compliment my cut the next day and the guys always ask me who I use but unfortunately most of them are too cheap to go anywhere but their local barber shop. Either way, I will always refer people to her because she IS the best. In addition, Vikki works with Nayoung and she is also awesome. Getting a shampoo from Vikki is like dying and going to heaven. Nayoung is very professional. Trust me im extreme picky about hair. And it's so hard to find a hairstylist that is good at Asian hair. I found her on yelp and decided to give it a try. I permed my hair 7months ago, so my hair was dry and there were way too many splits. I wanted to told her that don't cut it too short because I still want to keep some of the wavy hair. I was really afraid that if she cut too much, my hair would be totally straight. But before I said anything, she asked me, " so you know that if you want more layers, you hair will look more straight, right?" That's when I knew I could totally trust her and she's professional. I really like the way my hair look like now. One thing I was kinda upset about was that we made an appointment at 11am, and she made me wait and watch for one hour. I recently got Japanese thermal straightening from nayoung. She was friendly and so was the rest of the stylists there. I had an enjoyable time chatting with everyone and they all paid a lot of attention to my hair. While I'm satisfied with the straightening part, the hair cut she gave me was not the one I should have gotten for paying $300 + tip. I asked for a v-shape in the back, which looks ok from the back. But when I bring my hair to the front, the "layers" she put in my hair were way too blunt. She did not take time to texturize the ends, which I desperately need due to my thick hair. It is partly my fault for not asking for touch ups after the straightening but I wished she had taken more time and care to the haircut to compliment the great straightening she had just done. Honestly, it reminded me of the really bad hair cut I got once at Supercuts. As far as price goes, she quoted me $350 at first, which I thought was way too much compared to my usual salon in Austin which does the same length of hair for $200 + tip. We did eventually settle on $300, still a little too expensive, but this was after they have already shampooed my hair. If you're in need of a great thermal straightening, I would recommend this place. If you're also looking for a good haircut along with the straightening, based on my personal experience, I don't know if I can recommend this place. read more

Hey, so I got my hair done by Nayoung today. I never leave reviews haha, but she did a good job today. My hair was orange at the roots and really dark everywhere else because I recently dyed it black, then tried to get it lifted to a lighter color w/o removing the black color. She really fixed and did as much as she could with my hair. There are still a couple spotty areas but she spent nearly 3 hours on my hair and redid the color removing process and the toner process twice each so I don't have any complaints. Thanks! read more
