I had very long hair and now have a short old lady haircut. No warning whatsoever from Diane. I'm giving this two stars instead of one due to the amazing experience I had the first time I went there. Like others have said, the first time I went there Demetria got my very unruly brows (I have to get them waxed every 3 weeks) waxed and shaped. Awesome experience and also thought I had found my "place" since I'm new to the burbs. Today, I had a 9am appointment which was apparently the first appointment of the day. I arrived and they said the person, I think it was Lisa, was running a few minutes behind. No big deal. Finally after much running around and phone calls, the owner (I think) came up to me at 9:20 and said that "Lisa" had called in. There was no one there to do my brows. I was then asked if I wanted to reschedule. That's it. I know things happen and I'm an easy going person. But it seems like this salon should have a backup plan in mind or at least be able to call ahead if they have to cancel. I was not offered any incentive to come back again, like half off my next appointment or anything. Not a good customer service experience at all. It is really a shame because this place does a great job--but I'll have a tough time considering returning to this place. read more

Demetria has just given me the brow shaping of a decade! I've become so waxing, threading, tweezing shy from far too many sweet yet woefully untalented that i shamed my own face for months over risking another fail. This gal... This gal is an exhale. Her manner is inviting, direct, grounded and kind. She tells you what you need to hear with out sugarcoating and free from bitterness. Her eye is intuitive and accurate, her conversation relevant and uplifting, her touch is quick, smooth and so gentle. I barely knew she was touching my face much less uprooting hair from it! Amazing. Finishing with a gentle temple rub that set the rest of the day right...yeah. She gave me the foundation shape best for my face and I feel a good number of years brighter (and not a paycheck lighter for the value of her expertise). I'm lazy in vanity and uber frugal on upkeep- yet I left feeling pretty ;-) and encouraged to maintain her good work. Brava! read more

Tamara is the guru of eyebrows. A friend told me to go to her, because everyone was getting sick of looking at my unruly brows so I went and she truly made my face look different for the better. My first experience with threading too. Honestly, it's amazing how brows can make or break your face, with Tamara she finds the best shape for your face. Original review from 2009: I second and third and fourth the opinions about Tamar for eyebrows. I think she only works on Fridays. Cost is $20. I have been going to Kathy for about 7 years now and every time I come out of there I feel like a rock star. She knows exactly how I like my hair and even sometimes offers to try a new technique that was learned at a recent hair show and I am happy to help out! The prices are great with the experience that you get and the great cut/color/style its well worth the money! Plenty of parking as well which is great, a lot of other places I have gone to in Boston lack that aspect and charge way to much and have horrible stylists! Ya Kathy! read more

Naz is a whiz with a pair of scissors. He's simply the best. He can work from a picture and make it look great. Naz has his own line of products and also uses Rusk products. He is a rep for Rusk, working for them in their shows around the world. As a result, he knows his products inside and out, plus he keeps very current on hair trends. I came to him wanting an updated look, and I got it, without looking ridiculously teenaged. Naz instructed me on how to style my hair step by step, including which products to use and why. Great attitude too, not a diva, doesn't have an enormous ego. The staff is welcoming and helpful, led by Naz's personable wife, Susan. His son is a stylist there as well. This is a family business run by nice people who know that great service is the key to success. The atmosphere is casual and friendly. And Naz runs on time. The staff will try to fit you in if you have a hair emergency. I have had my hair done by several Newbury St "Best of Boston" winners, and I recommend this salon without reservation. read more

I came here to get my hair highlighted for the summer with Naz. I left so happy. I've been getting so many compliments. The color looks amazing!! I love how thin and proportionate he did the width of the highlights. For years, I have tried hair salons on Newbury Street and many local salons. I would always get a haircut I liked at least one time, but the cuts were never consistent. I could never find a hairstylist that knew my hair and what looked good on me - until Wafaa! She gives you suggestions, ideas, and will do exactly as you ask. Issues: 1. overprocessed, orange and yellow striped straw. 2. totally miserable haircut. 3. out of control eyebrows. Solution: Naz and his wonderful staff! Naz LISTENED to me! Naz started w/ a great haircut, spent a great deal of time explaining how he intended to treat the straw on the top of my head, and taught me how to blow dry my new 'do'. Then off to have my eyebrows threaded-I will never ever have them waxed again! Threading is almost painless, and afterward, there is no screaming stinging like a wax job. AND they look like real eyebrows, not something painted on. A great experience all around. BTW, Naz does not try to cram products down your throat!! I went to Naz Kupelian last year around August and I have NEVER EVER! had such a poor job done with my hair cut !!!!!!! Not only it wasn't cheap but I was waiting for 30 min because my hairstylist was running late!!!! It's not only rude, but also unprofessional to make a punctual client wait so long and leave dissatisfy with the end result! Any professional hair place would give you 10% OFF your service just for running late on you! You guys should learn from them!!!! Kathy is the best. Im always thrilled after my haircut and I can get away with not having to cut it for months. She is fun and its always like visiting a friend. Kathy deserves 5 stars but she has left Naz and is now at Michaels Hair Design in Winchester center.Didnt want to incorrectly give Naz 5 stars but didnt want to take away from their rating either. Demetria is a miracle worker and will make your eye brows look fab. -AMEN! Eyebrows w/ Demetria is the only service I have ever had here, but I travel all the way from Medford to get them done. I have been looking for a good eyebrow place since I came to college up here in massachusetts because I am super particular my eyebrows. I've tried about 5 places with no luck so I came searching on yelp. I found this salon and went there today and I think I've found my regular place. It was easy to get to and has its own little parking lot which is really convenient. Tamara was great. She is really friendly and takes her time to make sure they look great. My eyebrows were still growing in from my last eyebrow hack job but she worked with them and told me that she'd fix them to exactly how I want as the hairs grow in. 20 is a little pricey but it was so worth it. My eyebrows finally have a nice arch but are still thick like I like them to be. I will definitely be going back every few weeks! read more

Highly recommend a visit here! I had a fabulous cut, color and style by Kelly. She is an awesome stylist, patiently listened as I described what I was looking for. She asked how much time I spend on it each day so she could factor what style to cut based on how much daily maintenance is necessary. The color is perfect, exactly what I was looking for! My style looks great, a much needed update and am still getting so many compliments over a week later! I'm obviously partial to Kelly because of the awesome job she did, but the rest of the stylists created a salon full of happy customers! Even though he was busy with his own customers, the owner of the salon made sure he took the time to stop by and check in to make sure I was pleased with how my cut was going! I went to Naz at the suggestion of a friend who has been going there for a few years. I always find it difficult to find good hair salons because of my hair type-it is EXTREMELY thick and has tight curls. I had Ahmad as my stylist- after I got my hair washed Naz actually came over to inspect my hair. He basically told Ahmad step by step how to cut it and handle it. Throughout my haircut I was extremely scared because at times Naz would come running from across the salon telling Ahmad that he was cutting it incorrectly. To my surprise it came out incredible- I absolutely love it. And im happy my hair was able to provide a teaching experience as well read more

I am so dissatisfied with my color that I received. I went into my appointment asking for a lighter brown base with Golden highlights. My stylist seem to be on the same page as me. He finished putting my color on and foils in, and then went on to another client, forgetting about me. My color was on for almost 1 hour. When he finally washed me out, my head was burning. He said he was going to apply a glaze, but in fact mixed bleach with shampoo, my hair was shoe polish black with white highlights. He used burning hot water to rinse me. When we got to the chair I told him I felt like my hair was dark and streaky. He dismissed me. I left with wet hair and when it dried I was in shock. I had foolishly tipped him and payed over 200.00. I have had three color corrections at another salon since and the black color is still in my hair. Awful experience!!! read more

Naz has been my hair stylist for the past 12+ years. I go to him for my color, cuts and blow drys. Naz cuts my hair in such a way that makes everyday styling very easy for me to manage. I constantly receive compliments from strangers on my cut. I've always walked out of the salon happy and loving my hair! Going to the salon is always a pleasurable experience. Tired of coloring my white/gray hair every week for years, I went to Naz and Azad to go all white. They were great. We discussed the Elumen color I had been using at home and both Naz and Azad tried their best to strip out the color of a small piece. Turns out you need a special Elumen product to do this and after careful processing, it was clear that I would have a head of orange hair if they tried to continue. They explained all about the chemistry of certain hair dyes (as a teacher I appreciated that). We weren't able to remove the color so Naz continued and gave me a great haircut. I will continue using Naz and Azad for cuts. Everyone there was incredibly friendly! read more

So I never write reviews....EVER. But the haircut and service I got here was so bad that I'm still suffering...so I figured it's my civic duty to pass on the information. I got a haircut and full leg wax in August of 2009. Although the salon is very nice and kept clean, BOTH times I arrived the receptionist was too busy talking on the phone and BARELY acknowledged my presence until I stood there uncomfortably looking at her for 5 minutes (I'm not over exaggerating the time here). I'm used to going to places that greet you warmly as soon as you walk in...this is NOT the treatment I received here. I came in to get my hair cut on Aug 13 (my birthday) of Aug 2009 and I had a 9am appointment. After being ignored for a while by the receptionist, I was then told to sit down, and finally I met my hairdresser (I forget her name now b/c I was so appalled by the events occuring around me -she had brown hair though). Instead of talking to me about what I wanted and shmoozing like most hair stylists I know do, she was yelling ACCROSS the salon to another hairstylist who was working on another customer. They were complaining about someone or something. The sytlists were SO BUSY chatting to one another that they were completely ignoring their clients!!! I knew that was a bad sign...and proceeded to sit nervously in the chair. In between yelling to the other hair stylist, I managed to grab my stylist's attention and told her EXACTLY what I wanted. I DID NOT WANT a lot of length taken off....i stressed this THREE TIMES. I had been growing out my hair ALL summer for a specific function that was coming up. I also told her I wanted just a small trim, angles around my face, and long layers. She was like "ok" then proceeded to CHOP my hair off! I usually am never unhappy with my cut but this haircut was HORRIBLE. I got short choppy layers, she took about three inches off(ahhhh!!!! i had only asked for a trim!), and she completely THINNED OUT my nice, beautifyu, thick hair. She used this razer and just kept chopping away! Because of her, seven months later my hair is STILL thin, and I have horrible split ends...my hair is always always always healthy so this sucks! I hate this place in terms of hair cuts and WILL NEVER EVER EVER go back. Maybe it was because I came at 9 in the morning on a thursday but come on....if you have clients treat them respectively and give them the cut they asked and paid for. To be fair, the first time I came here, I just got a full leg wax. That was BRILLIANT. The waxing here on saturdays is awesome yet pricey (but worth it b/c you feel great afterwards). Besides that, I wouldn't risk a haircut here 'cause if you get a bad one (like me...the worst haircut of my life!) it'll take forever to regrow out to normal (hopefully by this august my hair will be a lot better!) read more

This is my second visit to the salon. After a so-so haircut with someone else, I figured that I would get a good cut from Naz. I was wrong. Too much razoring, not enough listening to what I actually asked for...very dated too. I don't mind spending $125 for a haircut but I'd at least like the person cutting my hair to treat me like a client and listen. read more

I wish I was able to give a better review. I was suggested this salon by a friend and it looked nice and it was easy to get to but I am unhappy with the hair cut I received. During my appointment I spoke with the hair dresser and we seemed to be on the same page especially because I always let my hair air dry because, yes, I may be a bit lazy but also I just like the way it looks (natural beachy waves!). After my haircut, I went home and washed my hair and let it air dry but I did not like the way the cut fell. I made another appointment to get it fixed and during that appointment I pointed out that the part that bothered me the most was a big chunk of hair in the front that just falls flat and looks disjointed along with the long layers that just make my hair look flat. I reminded her that I always air dry my hair but instead of trying to cut it dry and wavy, she straightened it. Now, I look at my hair and the big chunk is more pronounced and I feel like I have a lob-mullet. I don't know. I feel bad about the poor review and others have said that I should have said something but I thought I did. I can't tell how it looks air dried if it's blown out or straightened. I'm just going to let my hair grow out, I can't get more cut off. I wanted it to stay long in the first place. read more

Naz is rude and his color was awful. I arrived on Saturday right before my appt. Naz made me wait 20 minutes. I started explaining the color I want and I brought pictures. I wanted brown with golden highlights. He told me I was taking too much of his time for this explanation. I still went ahead with it, thinking even though he was rude his work would be good. The color came out black and the highlights almost silver. I hated it. I told him I didn't like it, he did something to it, but the hair color was still black, and the highlights were slightly better. I would never ever go back to him, after paying $230 I expect to get the color I want and good service and I didn't get either. Think twice before going. read more

My son wanted a simple hair cut with a hair cut machine and was expecting the price to be around $20.00. The saloon charged 30.00 for a simple boy's hair cut. He didn't have enough money and I had to go there to pay his bill. I would never recommend this place to no one. read more
