Food is great. I want to emphasize how great the food was. Excellent flavors and expertly cooked seafood. Cocktails are top notch - creative and tasty with high quality ingredients. If you're looking for a romantic date this is not the spot. It's definitely a family place. I know they're doing the best they can but it took about 25 mins for them to figure out who our server was. Was seated next to a huge table with really unruly kids. Would be cool if they could put the big groups in one section and smaller groups in another. Great place to go as long as it's not a special date night. read more

Food is interesting. The chef's platters seem expensive. The rice bowls are excellent. The service appears more interested in other others things than you. It appears friends get more attention than the average customer. The ambiance is noisy. The dining room, particularly the center ceiling HVAC, need to be cleaned. Had a great meal here, twice! First off, before you continue reading...ask your waiter/waitress about the Chef's board. It wasn't on the menu (brunch at least) and it's my biggest regret not getting. Anywho, I came here for brunch. I have never, ever, in my life ordered a salad as a meal but for some reason I felt compelled to order the pork belly salad. It comes with goat cheese, pomegranate, and a nice dressing. It was SO GOOD, and a good size too. I couldn't finish it (we're talking a salad here). I loved this salad so much that I also ordered it as my parting meal from my OBX winter. I also sampled the mac n cheese and crab dip, both great choices. Oh yeah, and don't skip dessert (beignets). Most places in OBX are pretty lax with the masks and covid but the staff here was good about it. I sat inside and felt fine. On a nice day their deck looks beautiful. read more

This restaurant is phenomenal - we came for happy hour and apps then came back for lunch! Everything was beyond delicious and we found ourselves wanting even more! Highly recommend also getting the crab dip. This place has a good choice for all with a great Asian flare on all their dishes. Definitely planning on coming back when I visit OBX again. read more

Things started out great, only waited about 50 minutes at prime dinner time - arrived around 6:30 and we were seated outside on the deck with plenty of time before sunset. All the makings to a great dinner in my mind. Once we checked in upon arrival, we were directed to a cocktail/waiting area with live music and a server walking around taking drink orders. We should've known then what was in store for the next couple of hours. It took the entirety of the 30 minutes in the waiting area for the drink server to get us a drink menu, take our order, and not even make it to serving our drinks. Once our table was ready and we were sat, the drinks were then transferred to our dinner tab and still took an additional 20 minutes to make it to our table. I had also noticed while we were waiting that there was an abundance of spiders on the tables and chairs of the waiting area, as well as on the side of the building - big and small ones. While this didn't really bother me as we were sitting under some trees and on the dirt, I wasn't a huge fan. It was a relief when we were finally sat. We were led to a table outside on the deck with gorgeous views of the water and sunset and I was very excited for how lucky we had gotten with the table, until I looked up above us. On the ceiling of the deck above us, there were dozens to hundreds of huge spiders in webs above us. While it made me very uneasy, I wasn't too worried as they were high up and looked like they had no plans to make their way towards us. During the course of our dinner we had several smaller spiders fall down on their webs literally on top of us and a big one crawled out from under our table - who knows how many more were under there as I refused to look. Outside of the spider situation, we waited an hour for entrees and it was obvious the server was frustrated with the kitchen and was very apologetic. We had the NC coast oysters for an appetizer which were incredible and my boyfriend and I both ordered the ribeyes which were cooked perfectly and pretty flavorful. We had very little complaints about the food, but the service and the arachnid "ambience" really killed the vibe. I'm from FL and have been eating outside at restaurants my entire life and have never seen spiders like that at an establishment. I find it hard to believe that there's not spray or some kind of pest control that can be used to deal with it. While spiders may not bother everyone and that's completely valid, I was surprised that weren't more reviews mentioning them and wanted to make others aware before making dinner plans as had I know prior, we probably would've gone somewhere different. It seems there's a lack of management/owner involvement concerning the spider issue and the service. All things considering, I would maybe go back and try again and just get a table inside as the food was very good! read more

I usually stop in once every week or two for lunch. The fish and chips are spot on as well as the slaw and fries served with it. I've also tried several other dishes and they are great. Nice selection of cocktails as well. Very tasty and theh don't skimp on the booze. Some people mention employees dont wesr masks - have not seen this issue once. Truthfully if you are that so concerned about a mask slipping down or "appears over-capacity" then get carryout please. You are at a table eating without a mask (like everyone) and breathing in recirculated air. Great place though! read more

It's important to first know I'm from the NYC area and so we have some of the best food on the USA. I've been quite underwhelmed with the food down here after going to several highly rated places. I'm imagining those reviews are from folks that just don't know or have access to decent food, no offense. The burgers are excellent my 18 year old son is a connoisseur and said this was the best he's had since being here for a week. The service is excellent attentive to your needs and brings things quick and friendly. They even set up a table of 4 by the window so we had a better view of the bay. The shrimp and grits were very good, drink menu was varied enough. Wife had the seared tuna which was the best piece of fish she's had since being here. The manager is a friendly nice guy. I would definitely recommend this place for a solid meal and great location in Duck! read more

Honestly tripped across this spot on a Sunday night when so many places are closed. There was a waiting list. Would have been 45 mins but the hostess was able to set us at the bar. NC Coast was an excellent spot for dinner in Duck. Our bartender Claire ended up being our server for dinner and she did not disappoint. Friendly and informative on the menu. We started with the seafood gumbo, yum. Claire convinced us to get the CHEFS BOARD, which changes daily and it an eclectic taste of several menu items. Tonight's board had oysters, ahi tuna, pork shanks, bangin cauliflower, crab cakes, beef over grilled vegetables, shrimp and grits, and salmon. To end it the course comes with their famous beignets. Very pretty restaurant and setting but we were disappointed with what we ordered. We thought trying the "Chef Board" would be a good way to try a variety of items but we were really disappointed. All of it comes on one round board crammed together like a over flowing buffet plate. It's difficult to enjoy your appetizers while your dinner is sitting there getting cold. Dessert is included as well which were decent beignets but for $110 you feel rushed to eat what's on the "Board" so it's not cold. I would suggest 2 boards one with appetizer and one with the entrees. read more

Dinner was absolutely amazing! Told 1.5 hours and was called at 45 minutes. Little loud and crowded but the delicious food quickly overshadowed that. Subpar food with unsanitary service! Waitresses wore masks covering nose and mouth but no one else did, not ANY of the cook staff who had the masks consistently around their neck and had personal food and drink items while cooking, NOT the management who stood over the food waiting to be delivered, NOT the bartender who wiped her nose SEVERAL times and then proceeded to pick up food and deliver it to customers. The hostess, those cleaning tables, cooks and management also continuously touched their hair and never washed their hands. The food was just ok. Limited options for vegans (....Honestly I would have been ok with the basic fried cauiflower tossed in sweet and sour sauce and sweet potato fries if it was a clean environment). Has potential to be a really nice place with the decor and ambiance but the management is not holding people accountable for providing a safe and code compliant environment. read more

Food here is good for the area. Ambiance needs help, it wouldn't be so bad if they would clean all the cobwebs off the ceiling fans and lights hanging above the eating area and the bar. Every year we go to Duck for "July the 4th". We enjoy this restaurant two or three times a week for lunch. The tuna dish, fish and chips, shrimp, and grits, and seafood pasta are all recommended. If the temperature is nice, great to sit outside. We always received good service. read more

I had the Seafood Trinity, finished with Beignets. Best i've had! The flavors of the shrimp, scallop. and lobster pieces added to the pasta and sauce, was the most flavorful and delicious ever! Something to savor, and i did. And the beignets, better than Cafe du Monde, or Banks Grill, not as light but better, with chocolate and caramel sauces! Yum! I do not remember a better, tastier meal. Wife's oysters and dinner were also exceptional. This has got to be the #1 place! think we'll go back tomorrow for our anniversary dinner. read more

I had the best seafood pasta here. It had scallops, shrimp, lobster, and button mushrooms in a delicious white sauce. I found the crab dip to be just ok, probably would have been better with more crab and warm chips. The bartender was super nice and made our visit even better. What a fantastic place to eat, hang out with friends, and enjoy a great meal. We went on Saturday afternoon and it was packed! (All COVID restrictions were adhered to). We got the fish tacos and the sexy southern Cesar and both were fantastic. Our server was wonderful and while it was clear she was juggling a ton, she never once behaved rushed, inconvenienced, or overwhelmed. (I am known to act like that on any given day when there is nothing whatsoever happening--so...yeah. ) anywhere I looked, the staff from the chef to the hostess were busting their rumps and I was really impressed with their work ethic. My only input was simply that whomever is doing the scheduling needs to give their wonderful staff a break and put more people on the schedule; if they keep serving up great food and staff, they'll need a lot of people to manage all the customers! read more

We will be coming back for the food, but not the service (described in last paragraph). First off I have to say that the food is excellent, just as my grandfather described (he's a homeowner in Duck so he knows all local restaurants). It was my birthday so my husband and I ordered the Chef's Board as a special treat and it was so worth it. I love being able to try different foods so to be able to try seared tuna, steak, oysters, salmon, crab cakes, fried cauliflower, shrimp n grits, and pork- wow, what a spread. My favorites that I would order again if I went back were the seared tuna (it came on this delicious avocado salad with bits of orange), the oysters (topped with a square of pork belly topped with a jalepeño, the dominant flavor was the spiciness from the jalepeño), and the steak (because, steak, and it was cooked nicely where there was a bit of pink in the middle). I wasn't a fan so much of the crab cakes but that's because I'm not a huge fan of crab, and the salmon I think was pretty bland and uninteresting, however, I ate every bit of the potato purée that was served underneath it, that was EXCELLENT. Now sadly, about our server- we were a group of 7, and I think we started off on the wrong foot with him as soon as he asked if we wanted any drinks and nobody was drinking- we all opted for soda and water. I don't think he liked that. He never refilled our sodas or even checked in to see if we wanted refills. I don't mind being left alone to enjoy a meal but I thought that pretty odd. Then, at the end, he flat out refused to split the check. Didn't even blink an eye, he just said he couldn't do it. Pretty sure he didn't trust us to tip well and wanted that automatic 20% gratuity that comes with groups of 6 or more. I don't know if it was because we were young (all under 30) and he was treating us poorly because of that, or what but maybe I should have pushed a little harder. I hope that next time we are in the OBX we don't get him again- and if we do, I will definitely stand up to him. :) Yes, you can split a check, sir! Absolutely do not eat here. We put our names in at 6:35 and was told it would be an hour for our party of 11. I came to check at 7:20 and was told by the hostess and manager that it would be 20 mins and the table was finishing up dessert. At 7:45 I asked for an update and was told it was taking longer than expected. At 8 I was told they were cleaning off the table. At 8:15 I asked how much longer it would be to clean off the table and I was told that they haven't even started cleaning it. They then offered 2 separate 6 seat tables that split up our bachelorette group. The hostess is quite possibly the rudest person I've ever encountered and should be fired for her total lack of customer service. She even told other members of my party that I was making up the time she gave us. If I could give this place zero stars I would. Take your business elsewhere. When we were finally seated 2 hours past our reservation time at two separate tables on a bachelorette party the table that was "on dessert" and "being cleaned" was still seated and having dinner and no where near done. Come here if you want to be lied to, strung along, and disrespected. Since the owner wants to respond with a comment that is totally inaccurate I will explain further. We were not seated in 1 hr and 17 mins we were seated well over 2 hours. I checked in at 6:35 and we were never seated until after 8:35. I know this because I started to call around to other restaurants at 8:30. I was told it would be an hour. I came back to check to see how much longer it would be and that's when the misinformation started. I was told the table was on dessert when they hadn't even ordered their food yet. I was told that the table was being cleaned and the people were still sitting there. When we were finally seated at close to 9 (at two separate tables that were never even offered to us previously) the table that we were waiting for was nowhere near done. In fact they paid their checks around the same time we did. I would have had no problem had the hostess and manager been up front and said it would have been 2 hours. We would have simply gone elsewhere. Instead they chose to perpetually lie to our group. I went up to the hostess stand 3 times in a period of 2 hours. Other members of my party also went up and asked for clarification because one was diabetic and needed to eat soon. So there may have been 5 of us in total that asked but certainly not all of them were from me. It is very clear that the hostess is young because she rolled her eyes and had zero customer service skills and was down right rude. As stated previously in all my years of eating out I've never encountered someone who is so rude and when they are called out on giving misinformation continues to just state they don't care. Also two of us ordered the shrimp steamers and our shrimp weren't cleaned and were full of poop. I can't speak to how the food was at the other table but hardly anyone at my table of 6 finished their food so not only did we receive terrible service but the food wasn't even good. I'd expect a seafood restaurant to know how to at least clean shrimp. Also if you look at the other 1 star reviews you will see this kind of experience is common. The front of the house continues to string customers along if you aren't friends with the restaurant owners/management. They even have a review that calls them out for being discriminatory and ignoring people of color who were just trying to get an update after they were waiting over an hour. read more

Food was very good - great flavor and seasoned well. But Two stars because while the food was great it's not a place for black people. Awkward to be seated and the hostess not realize she shouldn't seat us because the waitress working the section doesn't want to serve black people. Awkward to watch that waitress work every surrounding table and walk past ours unable to make eye contact because she doesn't like black people. Awkward to have the one waiter willing to serve us try and explain away what we can clearly tell by saying the hostess is new and didn't understand how to seat people. Such a beautiful location but with such a nasty person just ruins it. So as long as you're not black i recommend but otherwise just beware of the awkward feeling and looks you may receive if you go here. read more
