Fantastic seafood place with a classy feel. We had a party of 6 on a Friday in April during off-season. I imagine lines are crazy during season, but I can't say for sure. Dining extends to 2nd floor, which is where we sat. Nice menu with higher-end choices. The menu says no subs, but some of the entrees come with accouterments for advanced palettes, so I would ask about substitutions (squid ink pasta w/rockfish , for example). The Fish & Chips were among the best I've ever had. I'm very picky about slaw, and this was perfect. More pickly than sweet. I went with my husband recently and we sat outside on the upper level which gave us a view of the ocean. While we were there we had Deena as our server. She was phenomenal! We told her this was our first time at steamers and she immediately went into describing the drink & food menu along with some of her personal favorites. We had the fried calamari as our appetizer. It was fresh and the sauce had a sweet kick to it. My husband got Dave's special which was blackened mahi mahi and stated that he wanted to "lick the bowl clean". Not sure what the breading was but have definitely never tasted a breading that added so much flavor. My wife had the Beet & Beratta salad and said it was also loaded with flavor and enjoyed every bite. Service was excellent from the door through the meal. The only thing that didn't really meet standards...... we got one pound of the Maine mussels and when it arrived it wasn't hot...... stuff happens but that's why it got 4 stars from me. I returned here for another meal. To start, a half dozen raw oysters were ordered. They came with a mignonette that was just vinegar and cucumbers it seemed. I was not a fan, but I did not need it because of the presence of cocktail sauce and horseradish. The oysters were easy to slide out and appeared fresh. They did run out of littleneck clams, which was unfortunate, but not a big deal because of the oysters. For dinner, I had the tacos. The fish on the night I attended was Cobia. This had great flavor and was a nice piece of fish. I liked that the tortillas were given on the side so the tacos could be made personally. The pineapple slaw was a little sweet, but still solid. The cobia portion was the key though. I also tried the shrimp and lobster salad. The green goddess dressing was a perfect choice for this. read more

We ate dinner here on a Tuesday night. Surprisingly, there was only a five minute wait. The atmosphere was upscale and modern. Prices were not cheap, but the food was excellent. As were the cocktails. We had a dozen raw oysters on the half shell and they were top quality. No fishy taste. The fish tacos were made with grilled triggerfish and were delicious. However, my wife did not like that she had to put them together herself. The fish and chips--made of lightly fried triggerfish--was also excellent. This is a hidden gem. I can't believe I haven't written my 5 star review. We have been coming here consistently for years. Food is always good. They don't try to make anything "fusion". They serve exactly what people want: seafood and a few options for land lubbers. Their French baguette is the first item I always order. It's hot and oh so good. It's not made there but they bake it up hot when you order it. The soups are hot and full of ingredients. The salads are fresh with the right amount of extras. My go-to fried food is their calamari. It is hot and crispy. Cocktails are always just the right amount of booze. Staff is great. Everyone we go, they are attentive. There is indoor and outdoor seating options. What a lovely spot! The staff and service were wonderful from the moment we walked in. We celebrated my birthday here, and it was the perfect place to do so. We started with a pound of shrimp as an appetizer, then enjoyed the beef and grits, fish and chips (made with triggerfish), and the rockfish special. For dessert, we split the chocolate cake and cheesecake both were fantastic. The only small critique: the shrimp was a little hard to peel, possibly slightly overcooked. Still, everything else was delicious and made for a memorable birthday dinner with our family. We arrived right when they opened, and by 5 PM the place was packed definitely a popular spot! This place is just around the corner from our vacation stay. The staff is always outstanding. I like the check in process because it's outside and doesn't clog the entrance way. They take reservations but tonight we came for a late dinner and easily walked in for a seat. They offer a great variety for small to large eaters and non seafood eaters. We were seated immediately, so off to a good start. After waiting a bit, our server finally stopped by and dropped off water, with a promise to return. Again, we waited a bit for his return. He explained the special's and took our drink and appetizer order. It took quite a while for an alcoholic drink to arrive. As a matter of fact, the appetizer showed up first. He apologized and said if it wasn't ready soon, he'd stare at the bartender until it was made. Keep in mind, we were sitting at a high top across from the bar. While I was waiting for my drink, I saw one of the two bartenders come from the bar and take an order at the table that sat a good 10 minutes after us. Note, still no drink. Fast forward to the food. It was great! Everything was prepared well and tasted great. Oh, and yes my drink finally arrived. My biggest issue with this place is the credit card fee. I understand seeing this in some places, but when you charge $36 bucks for a double shot of bourbon, there shouldn't be an additional fee applied! Had the most delicious daily special that was scallops and a Gorgonzola and apple pasta pockets thing. The asparagus was not my favorite in the dish though just because of the way it was cooked. I sat at the bar and the bartenders were so friendly and I made some local friends who were having dinner at the bar as well. I didn't go upstairs so I didn't see the view but the bar area was nice and not too noisy. Our experience last year was not great but we wanted to try is again. It was far and away so much better. We sat inside and the interior was more inviting and didn't have the outside distractions from our last visit. We were able to be seated quickly and were met by an awesome server Reece. She went over all the options for the specials and I was very happy to learn I could get raw oysters with the Yellowfin and Oysters. My wife and I got the same item except her oysters were fried. She loved them. My raw oysters were shucked well with not sand or shell pieces. The oysters were delicious and came with different options to dip. The oysters were better in their own. My tuna was cooked to the perfect medium rare I ordered. It was accompanied by a mustard sauce that complimented the tuna well. The sides were good but the star was the tuna and oysters. I was happy to learn the oysters came for the Chesapeake and as a Marylander it was great. Steamers is a great place for seafood and I'm looking forward to coming back next year year. read more

We had a great view on the second level out to the sound side. Went to this restaurant for a date night and loved it! There are no reservations as far as we know so we went early (around 5pm). We had no trouble getting seated but there were some larger groups who seemed to be waiting. Even after about 40 minutes the seats around us, especially in the outdoor seating area, were nearly full. Our experience was lovely. Courtney was our server, she was incredibly attentive and sweet. We had two of their specialty cocktails and calamari as a starter. The drinks were strong (in my opinion) but very tasty. I had Dave's creation (halibut with a curry sauce) and my boyfriend had the swordfish; both dishes were very tasty! Both fish were tender and the portions were perfect, I was comfortably full when we left. Overall a great spot for date night or nicer dinner compared to other spots in the area. Back to a favorite in the OBX. To be honest, this is a go to place anytime we are in the Outer Banks. Conveniently located in Southern Shores with ample parking and great service and food. Did I mention great service? Well two years ago, I reviewed Steamers and wrote about a great dining experience. It was that trip that keeps us coming back. We sit down and are greeted by the friendliest waitress we encountered during this vacation week (Sept 29, 2023). She offered great suggestions and was very attentive to our group even though she was covering multiple tables and large parties. The key was she communicated extremely well and is the difference maker in our dining experience. To our surprise, we all start realizing that our waitress (Marina T.) was the same impressive waitress we had two years ago! So not only does Steamers employ great staff, but they retain them! On vacation here and everyone was in the mood for seafood and boy this place did not disappoint! We rolled in 19 deep and of course sat where ever they could fit us and we were all fine with that. The wait staff were so high energy and must have done not 10,000 steps but more like 100,000 steps that's how hard they were working! I had the Chef Dave's special and it was the most perfectly cooked whitefish with such an amazing sauce I'm from New England and for sure Chef Dave smoked them! Seriously best fish ever! Every single person in our family (even the teenagers) couldn't stop raving on how delicious their dinners were. Also the blackberry sangria was like no sangria I've had before, the pitcher was gone with not a drop left. Since it's still off-season, we were sat right away as a party of 7, which would definitely be a wait in the heat of summer. The ambience and decor here is wonderful, nice and beachy, but still cool and trendy. We sat upstairs, which had a good atmosphere but our table was awkwardly shaped and didn't work well for our group. Drinks were pretty good. My friend loved the raspberry margarita she ordered. The painkiller was great. For appetizers, we had the hush puppies, the complimentary Yelp-check-in shrimp, and the steamed mussels. Everything was delicious. We also got the seafood bisque, which would have been delicious but it was very under seasoned. With a few dashes of salt and pepper, we all agreed that it was good. We shared the prosciutto wrapped chicken and the ahi/oyster entree to share. Both were good, but neither were incredible. The caesar salad was probably our favorite of the entrees at the table. The fish was cooked perfectly and the sauce it came in was super yummy. The rice and beans were awesome and even had a side of salsa and sautéed veggies. I loved that the menu had atypical menu items for the area like black bean soup, rice and beans, and Spanish rice to name a few.
