Fabulous waitress upstairs with an ocean view made the evening very enjoyable. They had beef tips and grits on the menu. Due to a shrimp allergy,I usually have to ignore any grit listing. I wish 10 stars was an option! While in Kitty Hawk celebrating my husband's birthday. We were at the beach earlier in the day and attempted to have dinner at Black Pelican but their wait was over an hour so we opted to get freshened up and take our AirBnB host's recommendation for Steamers. Boy are we glad we did! What an absolute delight! Upon arriving we were met by the hostesses who were stationed outside. We had about a 20 minute wait so we grabbed a beer - local of course, and had a seat in their outdoor waiting area. To our surprise, we were seated much quicker than 20 minutes. Our server, Paige was AMAZING! The food was superb and we'll get to that but Paige really was the star of the show. Her fun, silly and energetic personality matched our vibe. She was well versed in the menu, walked us through tall her favorites and made excellent recommendations (pictured): Drinks: Pineapple Haze + Strawberry Bourbon Smash Entrees: Dave's Creation + Fish and chips All I can say is WOW and YUM! Updating my review... so our party of 5 came for an early dinner. They don't take reservations so we came at 5:30p Hostess sat us upstairs: nice view spacious seating area. Our server took a while to acknowledge us and when he did, he only came to say he would be back..more waiting. We finally got to order drinks, mentioned we were celebrating a birthday. It took a while for our drinks to come. We placed our food order when we had a chance to catch this "apparently busy waiter". Thank goodness they have food runners because we would have never gotten our food. Our favorite starter is the full fresh baguette, always a favorite for us. Everyone ordered cocktails, shared appetizers and each ordered a full meal. The calamari is fresh and lightly fried, it's really delicious and one of the reasons we come here. A couple of us ordered the salmon and had substitutions for the sides. Apparently, they couldn't do the subs but again, our waiter failed to tell us, the food runner had to tell us. The fried platter was a favorite for a couple of us. Tables that arrived after us, left before us. Not sure why our party was honestly let down ins service. We are locals who had family visiting. We probably won't be taking or recommending Steamers since the service has declined. There are other seafood places that have better service for far less money. read more

Fantastic seafood place with a classy feel. We had a party of 6 on a Friday in April during off-season. I imagine lines are crazy during season, but I can't say for sure. Dining extends to 2nd floor, which is where we sat. Nice menu with higher-end choices. The menu says no subs, but some of the entrees come with accouterments for advanced palettes, so I would ask about substitutions (squid ink pasta w/rockfish , for example). The Fish & Chips were among the best I've ever had. I'm very picky about slaw, and this was perfect. More pickly than sweet. We did see young children in a party, but I would not say this is a great family-friendly option. read more

It was a great day to sit outside and enjoy our food and the weather. The food was amazing.. I had the grilled salmon on a Caesar salad (phenomenal, I might add) also my partner had the fish and chips, (Fantastic, with the exception of the sweet potato fries (they were too crispy). We had our wedding rehearsal dinner at Steamers with a group of 20, and we could not have been happier with the experience! They were incredibly accommodating and made us feel so welcomed and special. We had our dinner on the second floor, which offered an absolutely amazing view of the ocean. The overall atmosphere was exactly what we wanted for our rehearsal dinner--classy and elegant while still feeling warm, comfortable, and cozy. It was the perfect setting to celebrate with our family and wedding party before our big day. The food, drinks, and service were all outstanding. Not sure what the breading was but have definitely never tasted a breading that added so much flavor. We told her this was our first time at steamers and she immediately went into describing the drink & food menu along with some of her personal favorites. We had the fried calamari as our appetizer. It was fresh and the sauce had a sweet kick to it. My husband got Dave's special which was blackened mahi mahi and stated that he wanted to "lick the bowl clean". I returned here for another meal. To start, a half dozen raw oysters were ordered. They came with a mignonette that was just vinegar and cucumbers it seemed. I was not a fan, but I did not need it because of the presence of cocktail sauce and horseradish. The oysters were easy to slide out and appeared fresh. They did run out of littleneck clams, which was unfortunate, but not a big deal because of the oysters. For dinner, I had the tacos. The fish on the night I attended was Cobia. This had great flavor and was a nice piece of fish. I liked that the tortillas were given on the side so the tacos could be made personally. The pineapple slaw was a little sweet, but still solid. The cobia portion was the key though. I also tried the shrimp and lobster salad. The green goddess dressing was a perfect choice for this. read more

We took a trip to kitty hawk for a few days and had Steamers twice! The view is very nice from the top deck outside and even thought they are busy they manage everything beautifully! What a lovely spot! The staff and service were wonderful from the moment we walked in. We celebrated my birthday here, and it was the perfect place to do so. We started with a pound of shrimp as an appetizer, then enjoyed the beef and grits, fish and chips (made with triggerfish), and the rockfish special. For dessert, we split the chocolate cake and cheesecake both were fantastic. The only small critique: the shrimp was a little hard to peel, possibly slightly overcooked. This place is just around the corner from our vacation stay. The staff is always outstanding. I like the check in process because it's outside and doesn't clog the entrance way. They take reservations but tonight we came for a late dinner and easily walked in for a seat. They offer a great variety for small to large eaters and non seafood eaters. I'd like to add that the other waitresses and waiters running around were also helpful and great with their tables from what I overheard. The outside and inside decor is very fun and clean looking. The most important though is that our food was fantastic! We tried the mussels, crab legs, and the clams as far as steamed seafood goes. We were seated immediately, so off to a good start. After waiting a bit, our server finally stopped by and dropped off water, with a promise to return. Again, we waited a bit for his return. He explained the special's and took our drink and appetizer order. It took quite a while for an alcoholic drink to arrive. As a matter of fact, the appetizer showed up first. He apologized and said if it wasn't ready soon, he'd stare at the bartender until it was made. Keep in mind, we were sitting at a high top across from the bar. While I was waiting for my drink, I saw one of the two bartenders come from the bar and take an order at the table that sat a good 10 minutes after us. Note, still no drink. Fast forward to the food. It was great! Everything was prepared well and tasted great. Oh, and yes my drink finally arrived. My biggest issue with this place is the credit card fee. I understand seeing this in some places, but when you charge $36 bucks for a double shot of bourbon, there shouldn't be an additional fee applied! We ate dinner here on a Tuesday night. Surprisingly, there was only a five minute wait. The atmosphere was upscale and modern. Prices were not cheap, but the food was excellent. As were the cocktails. We had a dozen raw oysters on the half shell and they were top quality. No fishy taste. The fish tacos were made with grilled triggerfish and were delicious. I sat at the bar and the bartenders were so friendly and I made some local friends who were having dinner at the bar as well. I didn't go upstairs so I didn't see the view but the bar area was nice and not too noisy. We sat inside and the interior was more inviting and didn't have the outside distractions from our last visit. We were able to be seated quickly and were met by an awesome server Reece. She went over all the options for the specials and I was very happy to learn I could get raw oysters with the Yellowfin and Oysters. My wife and I got the same item except her oysters were fried. She loved them. My raw oysters were shucked well with not sand or shell pieces. The oysters were delicious and came with different options to dip. The oysters were better in their own. My tuna was cooked to the perfect medium rare I ordered. It was accompanied by a mustard sauce that complimented the tuna well. The sides were good but the star was the tuna and oysters. We had a great view on the second level out to the sound side. We had 7 people and spent about $450 and that was without alcohol, with two shared appetizers, and one entree each. Not one of the 7 entrees (all different) was one we would order again. Did I mention great service? Well two years ago, I reviewed Steamers and wrote about a great dining experience. It was that trip that keeps us coming back. We sit down and are greeted by the friendliest waitress we encountered during this vacation week (Sept 29, 2023). She offered great suggestions and was very attentive to our group even though she was covering multiple tables and large parties. The key was she communicated extremely well and is the difference maker in our dining experience. To our surprise, we all start realizing that our waitress (Marina T.) was the same impressive waitress we had two years ago! So not only does Steamers employ great staff, but they retain them! Went to this restaurant for a date night and loved it! There are no reservations as far as we know so we went early (around 5pm). We had no trouble getting seated but there were some larger groups who seemed to be waiting. Even after about 40 minutes the seats around us, especially in the outdoor seating area, were nearly full. Our experience was lovely. Courtney was our server, she was incredibly attentive and sweet. We had two of their specialty cocktails and calamari as a starter. The drinks were strong (in my opinion) but very tasty. I had Dave's creation (halibut with a curry sauce) and my boyfriend had the swordfish; both dishes were very tasty! Both fish were tender and the portions were perfect, I was comfortably full when we left. Overall a great spot for date night or nicer dinner compared to other spots in the area. I was really looking forward to our visit considering all the positive reviews. Unfortunately it wasn't the case. Started off by waiting over an hour for table of 5 just to be sat outside with the flies swarming around us the entire dinner. The flies were also inside as well. On to the food my husband ordered the fish and chips and he enjoyed the flavor but indicated the portion was so small compared to other places and the price was above average for 2 pieces of fish. I ordered the king crab legs and they were so underwhelming and overcooked I have never had such low quality for $45 without any sides. Not a piece of corn or anything. I really felt ripped off with the quality and amount. Being from Maryland we have tons of amazing seafood restaurant and this wasn't even close. The only item that tasted good was hush puppies but they unfortunately came out cold while my fried shrimp was sizzling hot. On vacation here and everyone was in the mood for seafood and boy this place did not disappoint! We rolled in 19 deep and of course sat where ever they could fit us and we were all fine with that. The wait staff were so high energy and must have done not 10,000 steps but more like 100,000 steps that's how hard they were working! I had the Chef Dave's special and it was the most perfectly cooked whitefish with such an amazing sauce I'm from New England and for sure Chef Dave smoked them! Seriously best fish ever! Every single person in our family (even the teenagers) couldn't stop raving on how delicious their dinners were. Also the blackberry sangria was like no sangria I've had before, the pitcher was gone with not a drop left.
