Didn't know that this location even existed. It's well hidden and tucked inside a strip mall. The plus side is that here are lots of parking and staff working! I was in line at 11:00 a.m. and didn't have to wait in line. I walked straight up to the agent and paid my tags and out! What a breeze! There are some places where you have to stand in line for quite a while until you even reach the front. Thank goodness for this location. read more

TL;DR: -Bring all required documents and information -Have cash on hand -Kill 'em with kindness I've titled a vehicle / gotten an NC license plate, and got a temporary disability placard for my father here. It's best to research what you need for your service beforehand and come with all the required documents / information (like your odometer reading). Don't bother bringing printouts of pre-filled forms; they will give you the forms you need and tell you what to fill in. In fact, most of the forms provided didn't require much to be filled out; all they asked for was signatures and dates. In theory, I could've gotten my plate in 15 minutes had I taken care of my insurance first (long story short I had to switch coverage states and that was a tedious process). But lesson learned for the next time. Don't forget to bring some small bills with you in case you require their notary services ($5 as of January 2020). That is a cash only service. For the second visit, my dad came prepared with all his documents and he got his disability placard in 10 minutes. They even let him skip the wait due to his disability, which was nice of them. read more

He was joking about wait times and how people weren't answering the texts when he texted them that it was their turn to be waited on. I realize a five star DMV Yelp review is practically unheard of, BUT this DMV and the staff were very professional and accommodating especially considering their overflow from closed DMV locations close by. They had a process and were dealing respectfully with everybody. I arrived about 15 minutes before they opened and there was a line wrapping around the building. Most of my DMV experiences have been terrible, but this line moved nicely and once up front, they took your number and allowed you to wait in your car. Texted when they were ready and got you right in. Lauren helped a ton, was pleasant and got everything done quickly. Bureaucracy at just a notch better than its finest. My bride and I arrived with a slight flaw in our paperwork to title and register a "new to us" old car. After a short wait we were made aware of the flaw and told we couldn't change it in front of the person who had our paperwork, then we were told we could go outside of the agency, make our corrections and come back in, but couldn't come back to that same clerk. Outside we went, made our corrections and came back in. Now we had almost 1/2 hour additional wait as opposed to the five minute wait we had earlier. The wait was that long because we couldn't go back to the original clerk and it seemed like everyone else's issues were taking a very long time to resolve. The wait wouldn't have been an issue for me if we had been allowed to just take care of what needed be resolved, in front of the clerk, knowing it's on the up and up, and then just take care of the paperwork, but for some reason, the state, or the contracting agency doesn't allow us to do that. what should have been resolved in minutes, during our initial encounter, ended up costing us a lot more time because of the bureaucratic red tape. On the flip side, the clerks were at least friendly and understanding and wanted our paperwork to be correct. If they had been anything but that, this would very likely be a one star review. read more

IMPRESSED with top notch service for annual registration and renewal of license plate. I went online to pay the bill today and saw a $3 charge which made me look for a nearby location. Although location is not nearby, I was in the vicinity of another appointment and went in the morning. There are 3 lines, so just be sure to get in the right one and wait to be called. Less than 5 minute waiting in the line to be called. Plus, I left with the registration AND the sticker to affix to my license plate the same day very quick service. I never thought I would ever take the time to write a 5 star review for any branch of the DMV but I can't explain how awesome this experience was ....especially given the expectations most people have when planning a trip to the DMV. First of all, this location is not packed with lines out the door, or at least they weren't at 12:30 on a Wednesday afternoon. That's 1 Star Organized lines with clearly makes signs telling people which line to be in. This doesn't stop people from getting in the wrong line but at least they have done their part. That's a 2nd star. Friendly and knowledgeable lady at the counter. She knew exactly what I needed to do and knew exactly how to do it. 5 minutes is all she needed to handle my routine but somewhat complex transaction. A third star. She asked me if I needed to put my new plates on the car now and turn in my old plates and offered me the screwdrivers to get it done on the spot and save me a trip back to turn in my old plates. Awesome ! 4th star Lastly , she took the time to answer some additional questions I had, put all of my paperwork together neatly and in an organized manner and sent me on my way. Overall it took me less than 20 minutes from the time I parked until the time I left. I'll always come back to this License Plate Agency from now on . Note: they do not handle drivers licences, driver's test and other misc things at this location. It is mostly for titles, tags and property taxes. I've had the opportunity to visit this License Plate agency twice: once for titling and registering my motorcycle after moving from Wisconsin; and, most recently yesterday (12/8/14) for titling and registering a new-to-me TOP OF THE LINE vehicle from 2001. It has a VCR player in it, I know you all are mad jealous. Location: 4 out of 5 A 5 or 6 minute drive from where I work. Greenwood Commons has an interesting mix of lessees such as the license plate agency, a temporary staffing solutions office, a grocery store, and a few restaurants. Generally speaking - the area runs between the commons and the intersection of 55 and 54 have a lot of restaurants, gas stations, pharmacies, etc. to pass the time. The parking lot at Greenwood Commons can get a little bit crowded at times, so be patient and don't hit any of the older people lollygagging about. Customer Service: 4 out of 5 Markedly above average for being innately bureaucratic. There are two queues - one for just registration renewals, and the other for title transfers. The first time I went for my motorcycle, I was helped by someone in the title transfer line. She was quick and courteous, though it probably helped that I had all of my materials ready to go in addition to the requisite payment amount. When I went yesterday for my passenger car, I was helped by someone in the registration renewal line who was equally as quick and courteous. Again, it helped to have all of my documents and payment ready. Any bottlenecks that may occur are probably not a result of the clerks that are working; instead, I've witnessed quite a few people missing key documents like their insurance cards. Atmosphere: 3 out of 5 Commensurate with any other public service office. Fluorescent lighting with a sterile aura. No waiting area, so if you happen to go at the wrong time, be prepared to stand in line for a bit. Overall: 4 out of 5 The easily accessible location (for me) and the pleasant employees here are well appreciated. Yesterday, I was actually able to drive from my office to the agency, get my new license plate, and then drive back to work all in 30 minutes. The first time that I went was closer to noon and it took me about 45 minutes for the same round trip. As a side note, this location accepts cash, money order, checks, AND credit cards. However, the 5$ notary fee must be paid in cash. Conveniently, there's an ATM in the queue area. read more

Now that you've survived the heat and humidity of the grueling outdoor mega wait, not to mention your many hours of missed work for the privilege of obtaining a North Carolina driver's license at the DMV, the process to get your license plates and registration is good and fast, but not cheap (good, fast, cheap - choose any two). This place is Shangri-La, Paradise, a Day Spa experience. It's NOT the DMV. It's privatized, so no bureaucratic long line while indifferent employees take lunch or go on break or yell at you for assorted reasons, some valid, some not. After a very brief wait, I was called up to the counter where I handed over my California car title, my North Carolina auto insurance information, and my temporary paper NC driver's license. The pleasant young man didn't want my out-of-state license despite the websites I consulted specifying that this would be necessary or my filled out title application, despite the websites indicating this would also be necessary. He asked me a few questions, including the odometer reading. Then he handed me back my paper license and insurance info, attached my new tag sticker to my plate and handed me my single NC license plate (NC is a one-plate state I guess) and said I would get my new NC title in the mail in about three weeks. I had to pay him $5 in cash for notary services (seems like kind of a racket for notaries) and the rest (for me about $550 for my 2011 vehicle) with a check (although they did accept credit cards). The check was for the property taxes and for the privilege of moving my car from California to North Carolina and assorted fees. He pointed out which fees will be charged every year and which were one-time only. And that was it. I skipped out of there, shiny new license plate in hand, twirling with glee while the hills were alive with the sound of music. Then I drove to work. read more

This place is the worst! I was here yesterday to transfer my vehicle registration to NC since I moved but did not have my insurance document with me. I was told at that time I had everything I needed for a name change and title transfer, that I just needed the updated insurance document for NC. I returned today with my insurance documents and waited in a long line despite arriving before they opened. Already feeling irritated after the long wait, the lady at the counter was BEYOND rude and condescending and I was informed that there was additional information that was required that I was not made aware of the day before, but luckily I came over-prepared and I was able to obtain the other Information that I needed online. I have never been treated so poorly before and I would recommend choosing an alternative location if at all possible before coming here!!!! If you don't have any other option, I recommend doing your research ahead of time before waiting in line to deal with poor customer service! read more

Came in to register my NJ vehicle to NC to find out that their system crashed statewide. No big deal; I patiently waited and was willing to wait until closing to test my luck. One of the women at the desk suggested at least seeing each person and making sure they had proper documentation. Smart, right? I was the lucky one to have her "help" me and boy did her demeanor change as soon as I handed over my paperwork and opened my mouth. It started with an "oh god!" and side commenting with her coworker next to her that this was going to be too much. I coyly said "I promise it's all there," and she barked back, "uh NO it's not." She would ask me questions, cut me off mid sentence, and speak to me rudely and condescendingly the entire time. She asked for my license and my husband's, then rudely told me she didn't need mine. Here's to my first crappy experience since moving from NJ/NYC. Ma'am, it is time that you retire. read more

The most incompetent experience I've ever had. Before I went here I called the DMV and asked what documents would I need to transfer my car to NC. The man I spoke to gave me a list of things I had to bring with me. When I arrived at abyss of vacuousness, I was greeted by the queen of ineptness. She started telling me that I needed documents that I was not told that I needed and her attitude was unprofessionally ridiculous. I was there for 4 hours calling around to get the documents she required. I left there with nothing accomplished, to add insult to injury, I obtained every document she said I needed. She then told me, I needed another document that had absolutely nothing to do with this transaction, so I knew I had to get out of there. I went to another license place at Northgate Mall and within 15 minutes everything was completed. The clerk there told me that I did not need any of the documents that the ignoramus at the location listed above told me I needed. She was kind, knowledgable and efficient. Going to the above location was the most draining experience that I've had in my entire life. Thanks for listening to my rant, believe it or not I never complain. read more
