The service was very good. They have always had sweet waitresses. I have been going for 25 years. They have a wide variety of food and specials but the prices have gotten way out of line. The average lunch with tip is over $20.00. I got a hot roast beef sandwich with beans, fried okra and French fries no beverage and my son got the same and with tip. Almost $42.00. That should have been half that much. The quantity of the beef was small. The French fries and okra were plentiful. I'm going back for all you can eat cat fish tonight. We will see. The food is good not great. They seem to think they can demand the higher prices. What concerns me is that most of the crowd was older and most likely on Social Security. It won't go very far with those prices. Just my 2 cents. It is an old diner. Nothing fancy at all. Pretty clean. Working class establishment. read more

Had lunch here when passing through. Trip Advisor has this place rated as the best cafe in town and said it is known for its fried chicken. All of our food, including the chicken was extremely overpriced and very bland. Waitress was ok but not great. She was friendly but never really checked on us until the very end. read more

A tasty but small BLT is $10.49 and comes with no sides. My granddaughter had a coke and I had water. We ordered mashed potatoes and gravy, and a side salad. The gravy smelled and tasted like it had a chemical in it. We sent those back. After the potatoes were taken off the bill, it was $36 for 2 sandwiches, 2 very small salads, and one drink. They charge $2 for a shared plate and also have a fee for using a credit card. $8.99 for a cup of pinto beans and a piece of cornbread, $15.99 for a cup of chicken & dumplings, SMALL sides of fried squash and canned corn. Are here for first time. Had the Small portion chicken breast with 2 sides. Fried chicken was juicy and tasty, my sides fried okra and greens. I asked for mashed potatoes but they had ran out before we got there. Understandable since we got there about 40 minutes before closing time. For a small portion plate there was still a lot of food. 3-23-25 Let's just dive in. I have been in there a few times in the past few months. My first visit, the breakfast was good (5*), the lady performing the service seemed agitated, but we are all human (2*). I really like the atmosphere as I am an aging man, and I really just want to enjoy my breakfast with limited interruptions (4*). The next visit was 4-5* all the way. Different waitress who actually cared, good food and the visit was a pleasure. Last Friday (3-21-25) I popped in for some breakfast. The waitress was the same one I had the first time. She seemed better this time. She explained the special. A couple of eggs, bacon, toast and hashbrowns for $8.99. I said, I will take it. Please add a side of sausage. Upon arrival, the hashbrowns were undercooked and the bacon was absolutely flavorless. I thought well, some days are diamonds and some are dust. It's a fluke. I received my ticket and when I was done, I went up front to pay. The bill was $20 (19.86 I believe). Now, how did a cup of coffee, the special and a side of sausage turn out to be $20. It was as if she scratched the special that I informed her I wanted and tallied the ticket up in a different manner. No BS here. Every time I am in there, I have paid at least 75% of the bill again in a tip (I literally enter in my own. I don't just hit the standard button that comes up on the card reader). So, it was not the $20 that is the issue today, it was the food and the principal. If you tell me that the special is $8.99 then I expect it to be honored. If there is a surcharge on the eggs, then add that in and tell me that the surcharge is being met or that it is not and will cost extra with the stated price (not just a sign at the door, be transparent not deceptive). I have recorded a 3* rating to balance out my 3 visits. Today was a 1 on the food, a 1 on the service and a 4 on the ambiance as it was still enjoyable in the building. I have never had dinner in the restaurant, so my review is limited to just the breakfast. If you are reading this, please ask your waitress to be clear about the SPECIAL...It may surprise your wallet. I will go down the road or to a fast-food chain or go hungry be patronizing the establishment again. It's about integrity.... read more

This is one of the great diners from yesteryear existing in todays marketplace. There's almost nothing that isn't wonderful. I recently had the chicken dinner w mashed potatoes with cream gravy, fried squash and apple salad. And a roll! My wife had been craving chicken livers and she had the same sides as I did. Both meals were , as always, were great. I like all dark chicken and the thigh and legs were devoured without leaving any leftover meat. My wife enjoyed the crunch but the softness of the livers. Chicken tasted Exactly like my moms that was in a cast iron skillet. Mashed potatoes are homemade and home mashed. If you don't like a few potato pieces in your mashed potatoes, don't order! Everything fried was spot on. Large variable list of sides. The pies are not over sweet and the blueberry nut was a mashed blueberry and very tasty. I loved the wood stoves in the fireplaces that provided warmth and ambiance. Really enjoyed and highly recommend this popular spot. read more

This place is just phenomenal. I'm going to start with the customer service first which caught me off guard. When we first walked in, a waitress yelled "Anywhere" at us. I didn't realize she was talking to us though, so she yelled it even louder and she seemed kind of mean. I really felt like it was such a rude way to seat us. We sat down and it took our actual waitress who was different from the one who greeted us about 5 min to come get our drinks. She was so nice tho and very helpful and attentive once she got to us. Now the food which is exactly why this is getting a 5 star from me. It really is just unbeatable southern cooking. And they have so many southern cooking options. A rarity here as the entire city becomes gentrified. I attached pictures of their menu, but when my food came, I dived in and didn't get any pictures. Sorry. It was too good to wait another second. I ordered the chicken fried chicken with white country gravy and mashed potatoes and fried okra and it came with dinner rolls. I'm talking Cracker Barrel but authentic! Like real. And not a chain. It's a small local business that you can support! Which makes it even better! 10/10, I just cannot recommend Neils enough. A must. read more

I was craving Fried chicken when visiting a friend. She said she had heard great things about Neals. But we had to rush, they CLOSE at 7:30pm on a Friday night! (We we're only in town one night). The pies are apparently left out on the counter all the time, uncovered, not sure how that works, especially when we were busy fighting the flies at our table. Arkansas Food Hall of Shame is a better title. Good service, sude were really good, but the liver and onions were atrocious. I know liver has to be sliced and then marinated in buttermilk, and then seasoned and cooked. But this liver was super thin, wasn't marinated at all, and was cooked with in a inch of becoming retreads for tires. Couldn't finish, I choked down most of one PC, there were two, and then just got up and paid and left. Both my waitress and the cashier asked how everything was and I told them. Nothing was done just lip service, plus my salad with blue cheese dressing g didn't have blue cheese dressing on it, some type of vinegrette. Completely dissatisfied and disappointed. I'll never eat lunch or dinner here again. Brkfst is good though. But this has me wondering about that. read more

Great dinner, pie and service. They shared it was 4th generation family business. They still sell candy at the register. I had grilled chicken, my dad had grilled liver and onions and my husband had the open faced roast beef. The beef was the best of the three entrees. Atmosphere was nostalgic. read more
