Jerk chicken sandwich is definitely some of the best food truck food I've had yet. A co worker suggested I get the jerk chicken combo with the mac, but I wanted to try to sandwich first before checking out the other menu items .. you know, just in case I ended up disappointed. Well I am definitely satisfied, and cannot wait to try the mac and cheese plus other items on the menu. The jerk is spicy and flavorful, jerk you would not expect to have from a food truck! I thought I'd try them before a DC United game, I was a little skeptical since the line was a mile long for the pizza truck but none here. Yelp approved so figured I'd give it a try. I had their original Stay Classy Joe which is a large serving of regular ground beef and tomato sauce with a little bit of onion and bell pepper on a tasty bun. This is definitely a step up from say your school cafeteria and is about on par with the sloppy joe mix you'd make at home. It's not bad and definitely okay for what is but I've had better sandwiches for $7. I might get this again or try something else here but this truck is about average, nothing more and nothing less. I got the jerk chicken over salad base with carmelized onions and the pineapple slaw. The chicken was temperature hot and spicy hot just like you want in jerk chicken. Very good. The carmelized onions had very little flavor and don't really add anything to it. The pineapple slaw I almost missed in there. Just a few bits again with not much impact. Maybe lost in the salad? The mac and cheese was brown and crusty on top, warm and just enough flavor. I always love some bacon on my mac. (Hint, hint) My buddy got the beef on a bun and agreed with others here. Neat Meat had the best Yelp rating of all the food trucks that served at our Fall Festival today so I made a beeline to the truck. The service is good, the credit card transaction took a couple of seconds, and the food came out quickly. I made no connection with the sandwiches being Sloppy Joe variations, or I might have moved on, but the spicy sandwich was thick with pulled pork that was drip-free and tastes good. Some chunks fell at the table into the container which I happily picked up and ate. They have some details, like nice napkins and asking if you need a bag, that other food trucks miss. My sandwich was $9 with no sides. At $7 I'd have given them four stars. read more

More like a 3.499999 stars! As a kid, I was always disappointed on the Sloppy Joe days - diarrhea pretending to be a burger, served as the epitome of weird school lunches. Now over a decade later, I was hoping this food truck would change this image - and it sort of did, sort of didn't. Ultimately, this was a tasty enough, basic Sloppy Joe. While the flavor wasn't much different from school times, my angst against it was at least gone (probably partially because of the repackaging as a hip food truck food instead of a mass-produced cafeteria food). I got the Joey Melt and it tasted just like the most prototypical Sloppy Joe one could imagine (to the degree that I didn't really taste the onion or the cheese). It was good and hit the spot! But wasn't super memorable or anything. I also felt the same way about the mac and cheese - good but nothing stood out. NeatMeat DC is delicious. Since trying them at Yelp's CakeLove Crush, I knew that I had to go back. Lucky for me, they come to Dupont Circle quite often. I know what I'm sticking with when I visit - Club Joe, which is pulled turkey with bacon, lettuce, and tomato. The sandwich is huge! No mayo, so I don't have to worry about that. There's a light au jus used on Club Joe, which gives it plenty of flavor. Also, the bacon is thick and tasty - none of this weak, diner-style bacon I see so often - this is the real deal. And, the owners are incredibly nice. NeatMeat has reinvigorated my love of food trucks. read more

After chatting a bit with one of the owners, I decided to try one and I've been craving a sloppy joe for a while :-) His warm customer service swayed me to do so. Let me just say, there was an interesting selection of Joe's offered, so there is something for everyone- even a turkey and veggie option. (check out my pic for the menu). The regular meat I believe is 85% brisket- if I remember correctly. I wasn't super hungry so I went with the "Stay Classy" basic Joe- $7. When I got my Joe, I was surprised at how much meat was included. I also ordered a bag of Sea Salt and Vinegar "Dirty Potato Chips" so my order came out to approx $9.00 (give or take). They do offer $1.50 discount for people that order a Joe, chips and a drink- NOT INCLUDING the $1.00 water bottle tho lol- (so you basically get the chips for free). The Joe was pretty satisfying and seasoned as a Joe should be, however I'm one of those people that like their food piping hot so I wasn't that satisfied with the temperature of the meat :-( Overall, I would definitely try these guys again. I decided to check out the new-to-me NeatMeat DC at this month's Truckeroo. Me, being me, I played it safe and went with the Classic Joe. It was really good! Even though a Sloppy Joe is one of those no-frills sammiches that we all enjoy, it's still quite possible to 'eff' it up terrible. However, NeatMeat DC did well with this. Even the bun was good. Nice and toasty without any crispy pieces. While inhaling this delight, I couldn't stop thinking about how a nice order of fries (or tater tots!) would go GREAT with this. read more

First of all let me say that i am a SLOPPY JOE ENTHUSIAST!!! And this was bad..bad..bad! I got the original Joe, pulled pork with "crispy slaw" and mac-n-cheese. One-by-One, here is the review: Original Joe: when i reminisce on sloppy joes from school lunch or mom's house.. i think of juicy...tangy sauce slathered with ground meat and pilled high on a soft bun with extra sauce and meat spilling over the side. This was no where near close to my past understanding of this delectable sandwich. The meat had a good flavor but was dry! i mean dry to the effect that not even the bun had a little soak to it.. just dry! to describe it adequately... it was ground meat with a dry bbq seasoning mixed in. Pulled Pork with "Crispy Slaw": now this one had some moisture... or at least i think it did when compared to the Joe. the flavor was again on point and the meat was actually really tasty. What threw this one off for me was the "crispy slaw" I didn't really expect it actually be "crispy" like no kidding... think of adding potato chips to your sub crispy. otherwise, this was a decent pulled pork. Mac-n-Cheese: can you say "high blood pressure" borderline stroke? it was over cooked... no creaminess or cheese pull...and the amount of salt was unpalpable. I had a coworker taste it to make sure i was not being harsh (I'm not a big salt eater) and my opinion was confirmed. i was soo excited to try this food...you know cause i am a sloppy joe lover... butttt.... ill chop it up to maybe this was a bad batch. At my coworker's recommendation, I tried NeatMeat for the first time today. I'll combine his opinion with mine and settle on a rating of 3.5 stars. I really enjoyed the flavors of the sloppy joe. I got the "joey melt," which was their regular ("stay classy") joe topped with honey caramelized onions and classic american cheese. I wish the cheese had been melted, but I loved the flavors of both the sloppy joe and the onions. The bun was also very strong, a fact I appreciated when my lunch didn't end up all over my lap. My coworker wishes that they'd include a bit more meat (although I was satisfied with my portion) and we both wish that they offered different cheese options. But all in all, a good sandwich that's also priced well. Bonus - they provide bibs, although admittingly I save these for my inevitably messy pho lunches. read more

I just noticed the NeatMeat food truck so swung by to give it a try. They have a small selection of different sandwiches, mostly variations on the "Joe" theme. I honestly didn't realize that the "Joe" stood for "Sloppy Joe." That's what it is. A Sloppy Joe. Even though they describe it on their menu as "Ground Beef Brisket in our special tomato based sauce!" it is still just a Sloppy Joe. As Sloppy Joes go, it is pretty tasty, and while I got the most basic "Stay Classy Joe", the variations they have (different toppings) probably work out very well. Today at a good truck event located near my job I had the pleasure of trying the Mac and cheese which was great aunties Mac. You know what I'm talking about the Mac and cheese that is gooey, sticky, thick, and has the burnt edges....that's it. I appreciated that I could also see the seasoning throughout and taste it. My lack of stars is with the customer service. A gentlemen with love waited on me and when I asked for a napkin he gave me one so I went to grab more and he clearly had a problem with it and made the remark that people are always taking a bunch of napkins and wasting them. Oh dear god. Another food truck that owns my soul. There is something magical about food trucks. I think part of it is that I get my food to go, so I don't feel trapped at a table waiting for a server to notice me. Part of it is that food trucks are JUST SO DAMNED TASTY. NeatMeatDC is just one great example. I wasn't super hungry - but my husband spied on the menu a "Lamb Sloppy Joe", and although he has issues with sloppy joes (a childhood filled with eating that crap), he loves a good lamb dish...well, I think at times, more than he loves me. Which is OK, because there are times when I feel the same way. Heh. The Lamb Sloppy Joe in one word was OMFGWTFBBQHOLYSHIT. It was ridiculously good. The lamb was tender with the light gameiness that makes lamb so delicious. The sloppy joe sauce was just tart and bright enough to enhance the lamb, yet light enough that it didn't overpower the wonderful lamb flavor. The bun was a little weak - it was too soft to hold up to the sauciness of the sloppy joe...but as my husband pointed out to me, that's why it's called "sloppy" joe and not "neat" joe. Excellent point. I know they had other things on the menu...but I think we *inhaled* 3 of the lamb sloppy joes and really couldn't focus on getting anything else. Heh. So awesome. read more

4.5 Oh my goodness was this ever good! And sort of unexpected because I usually never associate a sloppy joe with a food truck because...well, first because it's sloppy (yeah, I AM working that Einstein gene today!) and second because it just seems like something you have at home. Either at your friend's house when she's making it for her kids, on a crisp fall day with your honey when you come in from raking leaves and want something quick and comforting, or when you are...um, altered in the herbal sense. Eff it, it's legal in some states now...when you are STONED. So since none of these scenarios conjures up a food truck, I just didn't think it could be that good. Well, it is. It is very, very good. I had the Joey melt which is basically a sloppy joe with melted cheese and sauteed onions on it. It was delicious. The meat was perfectly cooked (like juicy instead of cardboard crumbles) and the bun was soft and delish. Cheese was your standard American variety but perfect for the sandwich. And yes, I did try that Rice Crispy treat thingee that everyone is raving abou heret. And it is a beautiful thing. It's a rice crispy treat with salted pretzels and brownie chunks in it. Again, refer to my list above, specifically number three, to know that this would also be a perfect snack in certain other circumstances. But, it's fantastic. Portions are decent and filling. I do tend to agree that the prices are slightly steep (8-12 for a joe depending on what you get and the meat used---they have a lamb variety too) but it's still very good and I will definitely come back again. Wandered down to Patriot's Plaza with a coworker today to see the Food Truck Selection... soon as I saw the NeatMeat menu, I knew where I was going... The Operators of the truck seem to be nice guys - courteous and friendly. I ended up getting the Club Joe (Pulled Turkey, Lettuce, Tomato, and Bacon)... the bacon was the saving grace and the most tasty aspect of the sandwich. Otherwise, there was nothing to make it stand out from any other club sandwich I've had. If the bacon hadn't been on the sandwich, it would have been a rather bland option. There was no line when I got there, and my sandwich came out promptly (maybe 5 minutes). It was kind of dry, as there was no Sloppy Joe, BBQ, Mayo, or any other kind of condiment/sauce on the sandwich. They do offer a decent combo deal. Buy a sandwich at normal cost and drink ($2.00), and get chips for free. The chips are the "Dirty" chips brand as opposed to Lays, Doritos , etc. The one drawback is they offer no soda. The drinks are limited to Lemonade, Sweet Tea, or a 50/50 mix. The combo option does turn things into a decent size lunch. The sandwich by itself wouldn't be near enough. They are certainly better than some options out there, but not as good as others. I probably would try them again if my favorite trucks weren't around. However, as they aren't on a tracking site (such as foodtruckfiesta.com), finding them will be a hit and miss. read more

Didn't bring my lunch to work today and saw that Neat Meat was nearby, so i decided to give them a try. I was hoping for the Greek style Joe, but alas they were out of lamb. I opted for the Joey Melt which, as other Yelpers have opined, left a lot be desired for a $10 price tag. I was expecting a deeply-flavored ground brisket, but was instead met with a relatively bland product. It was also pretty dry sauce-wise, though this is my first time ordering from here, and I may not be accustomed to the drier sloppy joe style. The caramelized onions could have been bolder, but the potato roll was good. Like the other yelper said, if i was hungry and happened to pass by this truck and they had lamb I might give the other sandwich a try, but otherwise this may have been my first and last trip. read more

I'd give this 3.5 stars if I could. I got the Joe Club with the brown sugar bacon and pulled turkey meat. The bacon was what more drew me to this selection, but the bacon flavor didn't pop out as much as I'd been hoping. They provided a good amount of meat. Probably about half a pound of meat (looked similar in size to a half pound burger), which was good. Tasted like standard pulled chicken/turkey. It was good but didn't wow me. There are other options I'm interested in trying out though. I also got the sweet tea. This is no standard sweet tea. I can't really tell what's in it. I almost get a hint of fall spices and honey, but can't really tell. It is REALLY sweet though. I could see some people really liking it, but the level of sweetness/flavors I can't identify leave it more a question mark for me. I'd definitely try this place again. This is my 2nd experience with NeatMeatDC. Of their simple menu they still have a couple of choices for me, being the persnickety eater that I am. Twice now, I've had the Joe Goes to Thanksgiving. It looks just like the pictures and tastes amazing. The mix of white and dark meat turkey is tender and nicely seasoned and the cranberry sauce has a tangy kick to it. Today I got a bottle of water and the Sea Salted Dirty Chips to go with my sandwich...pretty good for about $11. Since I was the last in line for the lunch rush, on this very hot day, I was offered a complimentary cold bottle of water for my patience. I am extremely grateful for the customer service and compassion. He was all alone today and handled the rush crowd with grace. The business served as a "pop-up" close to where I work. They offered three Sloppy Joe choices (traditional, chicken pesto, veggie) and had three side options (slaw, Mac n cheese, chips). I had the pesto chicken and the Mac. The chicken was similar to a pesto chicken salad, which I'm not against, and included mozzarella and sun dried tomato spread. Non-traditional, but solid. The homemade Mac was similar to your southern, comfort food style Mac, but tasted as if it had some of the similar spices (or cooked in the same pot) as the sloppy joes, which was a nice tough.
