Jerk chicken, salad base, w carmelized onions and pineapple slaw. Mac N cheese side.
    Jamie B.

I got the jerk chicken over salad base with carmelized onions and the pineapple slaw. The chicken was temperature hot and spicy hot just like you want in jerk chicken. Very good. The carmelized onions had very little flavor and don't really add anything to it. The pineapple slaw I almost missed in there. Just a few bits again with not much impact. Maybe lost in the salad? The mac and cheese was brown and crusty on top, warm and just enough flavor. I always love some bacon on my mac. (Hint, hint) My buddy got the beef on a bun and agreed with others here. It needs more flavor and it was barely luke warm! Chantilly May 30th.

More like a 3.499999 stars! As a kid, I was always disappointed on the Sloppy Joe days - diarrhea pretending to be a burger, served as the epitome of weird school lunches. Now over a decade later, I was hoping this food truck would change this image - and it sort of did, sort of didn't. Ultimately, this was a tasty enough, basic Sloppy Joe. While the flavor wasn't much different from school times, my angst against it was at least gone (probably partially because of the repackaging as a hip food truck food instead of a mass-produced cafeteria food). I got the Joey Melt and it tasted just like the most prototypical Sloppy Joe one could imagine (to the degree that I didn't really taste the onion or the cheese). It was good and hit the spot! But wasn't super memorable or anything. I also felt the same way about the mac and cheese - good but nothing stood out. I'd totally go for this place again if it were in front of me and I needed some food. But I'm not sure if I'd seek it out.

After chatting a bit with one of the owners, I decided to try one and I've been craving a sloppy joe for a while :-) His warm customer service swayed me to do so. Let me just say, there was an interesting selection of Joe's offered, so there is something for everyone- even a turkey and veggie option. (check out my pic for the menu). The regular meat I believe is 85% brisket- if I remember correctly. I wasn't super hungry so I went with the "Stay Classy" basic Joe- $7. When I got my Joe, I was surprised at how much meat was included. I also ordered a bag of Sea Salt and Vinegar "Dirty Potato Chips" so my order came out to approx $9.00 (give or take). They do offer $1.50 discount for people that order a Joe, chips and a drink- NOT INCLUDING the $1.00 water bottle tho lol- (so you basically get the chips for free). The Joe was pretty satisfying and seasoned as a Joe should be, however I'm one of those people that like their food piping hot so I wasn't that satisfied with the temperature of the meat :-( Overall, I would definitely try these guys again. They've only been around for the last two weeks so catch them while you can. :-)

Really nice sloppy joe and excellent service. I took advantage of the Yelp deal for a free side and got some "dirty" brand chips with my meal. Just the right amount for a slightly messy lunch. Any time I'm craving a joe I'll be looking for a Neat Meat!

"Mi So" Joe--deliciously perfect for lunch.

For starters, we got the New England Clam Chowder and an order of Chickpea Fries. New England Clam Chowder - definitely a chowder and not a soup (heavy cream base) with a nice flavor and a healthy amount of clam bits. Chickpea Fries - A nice portion of well prepared fries. Nice crunch on the outside, but moist on the inside. Well seasoned and not oily. Comes with ketchup and an avocado lime ranch, which was ok. It's a huge portion and we took most of it home to enjoy later. Good use of chickpeas. Branzino - This is a whole fish split in half. Pretty easy to remove the bones oneself. The skin was nice and crunchy with the meat inside moist. Well prepared. I'm not a huge fan of dill and I think the seasoning of dill is a bit overdone here. (I'm pretty sure it's dill. Whatever it is, it's too heavy for me and detracts from the meal.). The wild rice side dish is very good. Lobster Roll - Excellent. My partner ordered this and the only comment was that the large was very big and next time they likely would get the small one. Lots of delicious, cold lobster meat. The fries also were excellent. The service overall was very good. Our food was served at an appropriate rate (apps, then main, which seems not to be important at a lot of restaurants these days) and the water service was excellent. Recommend this restaurant. I probably would not get the Branzino again because of the heavy dill seasoning, but there are other items in the menu that look interesting.

My grilled chicken was moist, flavorful, and cooked very well. The fried catfish was not too salty and had great balance where you can taste the fish. The mac and cheese, cabbage, and green beans were all of nice quality, the weakest link is the potato salad, however that is a dish that can be complicated for different restaurants to get the hang of, fortunately I can prepare some awesome potato salad myself. The peach half and half drinks were balanced perfectly well not too sugary and sweet. I swear some of these places make drinks way too sweet and you want to check your insulin levels. The server was highly attentive and a great conversationalist and paid attention to our wants and needs and had superb professionalism and a strong work ethic. He was hospitable and accommodating. The staff was friendly and approachable. We had fun and enjoyed this more than Milk and Honey and even Carolina Kitchen. DC keeps gentrifying and losing its soul, but there are still some hidden gems around. This spot blends in with the Walmart, and funnily enough I have driven past here a gazillion of times and assumed it was some bakery or another spot and did not know it was a soul food joint, something DC has been minimizing and pushing out to Maryland like the city always does. I think it is masterful that they use clear plastic containers for their food making it easier for the staff as that can be expensive and time consuming with the dish washing/prep, sound economical move. It is nice that the business (U Street etc. location) has been in the DMV for over 20 years and expanded to Baltimore in Fells Point. I think Baltimore will like this spot! This felt authentic and soulful in a way that I had not experienced in the city in quite some time, as the city has had a lot of restaurants be sterile, bland, flavorless, and catered to certain demographics while completely ignoring others. I liked the soundtrack with R&B and was able to hear some TLC on the soundtrack which was very nostalgic and a throwback to DC before the gentrification when it was truly Chocolate City! Overall, it is a spot that you can visit more than once certainly not a one and done like a lot of restaurants that lack service, food, and ambiance/vibe.

At that time, I was upset about what happened with George Floyd a week earlier; still in 2026, it was wrong what happened to Floyd (not to mention more recent news that happened in that city was horrible too). I hung out with a friend on that warm day having a beer outside his apartment in Takoma Park. He is a mega-leftist politically (I'm more independent), but said he wanted to support a black-owned business; I said that's a good idea; I might do that for dinner. He was doing his own thing for dinner, so I was on my own. So, I looked up on Yelp what was in the area, and I saw just across the border in DC, Oohh's & Aahh's. Staff was nice, and I got a fried chicken platter. As this was Covid times, there was no dine-in. So, I schlepped all the way straight up Georgia Ave 6 miles back to my home in Wheaton fairly quickly on that Sunday as I don't like my food getting cold. I think my food stayed pretty hot as it was well-wrapped, and if it had cooled off, I could always microwave at home. The fried chicken, mac n' cheese (my favorite vegetable...I know not really a veggie but a joke), etc. were all solid. If I was ever over here, I'd consider coming back; just so rare I go to DC these days.
