Dr. Nebeker is a long time Advanced Eye Specialist in the Merced area. I highly recommend him and have also referred people looking for great care and service to his office. He also has a machine that identify any health issues and I have not seen this at other eye care practices that I have tried. He is very compassionate and cares about his patients and always does an excellent job! Highly recommend. I haven't experienced rudeness from the staff and can not relate to other experiences on this page. read more

The one star is only for the actual doctor, but if you need your contacts quick, go somewhere else. Never got a call to notify me my contacts were delivered, I had called the day before and they said they were there. When I went to go pick up next day during their posted office hours it looked closed. I called the office number posted and no body answered so I left a voicemail. I tried calling an hour later and still no response. It's been 3 days, I've been during their office hours, and still nada. The lack of communication makes getting eye care so frustrating and the time to get a response is ridiculous. read more

Great optometrist experience. I was in Merced for 6 years and was a patient here for at least 4. The facilities are clean and nice. All the equipment looks new and up-to-date. Dr. Nebeker and his assistants are all very nice and helpful. Dr. Nebeker is very knowledgeable. You can get free clothes and cleaning spray at request. My only wish is that their eye wear select was a little larger. If you are in Merced or live there, I'd recommend getting your eye care here. read more

I do not recommend Dr Nebeker. It took them 3 months to order my daughter's contacts. When I went to the office asking to speak with the office manager they informed me that they had no manager and that I had to speak with the Dr Nebeker but he was busy with patients. I have never experienced so much attitude by staff. I simply asked why it took 3 months for contacts to arrive and all 4 employees answered "I don't know". They were all very unprofessional and showed no empathy what so ever. They all provided bad service and I would not recommend them at all. Foremost 1. The doctor is excellent!!! Hence the one star 2. Customer service is ridiculously flawed and terrible. I cannot even regard the excellent doctors service at this point because of how badly I was treated by the technical staff. Sorry!! experiences with customer service (I will only name a few from the past 4 year experience, since I decided to stick to this place due to lack of eye healthcare places in Merced). 1. I was told by a technician working at the place that I need to get special contact lens fitting. Therefore apart from my eye insurance, I had to pay $100+ for the contact lense fitting (this co pay would last for 3 months). Later the same person informs (after I had paid) that since I have a stigmatism I cannot order the contact lenses I requested and will check for an appropriate contact lense ASAP and call me. One month went by no call ... so I call ... he forgot my case by now and then told me he will look into it ASAP and call back again. Second month goes by no call ... and rinse and repeat the former. The 3rd month goes by and the same rinse and repeat. He very graciously decided to extend my co pay for another month. This was in 2012 ... It's 2015 and I am yet to get a call to my many inquiries and the co pay is down the drain. They RIPPED me off of my money. 2. I got my glasses the first time (which was ok) and two years later I went to get new ones. I wanted the same frame, but of course they wanted to spend my money and convinced me to get new glasses. So I fell for it and got new ones and paid ridiculous amount of money even after a generous contribution from my eye insurance. They told me that the glasses should be ready within about 10 days and will give me a call as soon as it is ready. 10 days later no call and when I called, they gave an excuse and said it was delayed. 28 days later no call and I call them and the lady at the front told me she will check into it and call me back. No call for another 7 days. I finally went to the office, and then find out that the glasses were there to begin with and came on time, they never checked for it when I called. 3. The same thing in #2 happened to two separate orders of contact lenses. How is it possible??????? My experience in summary - until they sell you something or you pay, they will be the sweetest and kindest. But none of the outside customer service really knows how to handle anything or get anything done on time. They do not care, and my advise is avoid the place. Merced is expanding and probably you could find better. Even if the doctor is excellent, if you cannot get what you pay for, what is the use? I have been duped too many times, and I think I have learnt my lesson. I now have a doctor from the bay area and I am very happy (though this place in Merced calls me all the time for annual eye exams, I'd go blind before I have to deal with them again). read more

this will be the second time I have been unhappy with the service! About 5 years ago I ordered glasses from you and after coming back twice I still did not get my glasses. On Aug. 31st 2015 I ordered and paid 442.16 for my glasses. My appointment card was for the 15th of September 2015. I arrived at 3.00pm to pick them up and was told they were not there. I live out of town, but did not receive a call to let me know there were not there. This will be the last time I will do business with you! Perhaps the worst health care provider I have ever visited.Nothing but bad experiences. It took 3-4 tries to get glasses correct. They would tell us glasses were ready and we would show up and they could not find them. I ordered trifocals and they gave me computer glasses, then told me they were trifocals when they clearly were not. They refuse to honor two year valid prescriptions and instead insist on seeing the patient every year to get a valid prescription. This is just the beginning. This is more than just incompetence, it borders on completely unprofessional. Never go here. read more

I have been a patient of Dr Nebeker for 15+ years. I won't see anyone else. He is a true professional, and has a passion for what he does. When you see him, you are always treated as special. He remembers you, and it is as if you are the only person in the office..never rushed, and you get his undevided attention. Great doctor, but awful staff. They ordered the wrong lenses 3 times now. Every time they have to reorder it takes at least 2 weeks. Other places take a few days. They don't call when your lenses finally do come in. You have to call and check constantly. Then they throw "technical" language at you about their mistakes, I'm assuming to be confusing or to make it seem like it wasn't their fault, but clearly they've just ordered them wrong again and again. See the doctor, but take your prescription to be filled anywhere else! read more

Dr. Nebeker was great on my first visit. A friend referred me to him and he listened to all my questions and answered every single one. A very patient doctor which I like because I ask a million questions to clarify. The staff were very friendly. I regret coming here!!! We had difficulties from the get-go. My husband had to have our Insurance call the practice to explain our benefits because they refused to set up the appointment since we "weren't" covered. When my husband called our insurance, they automatically knew it was Dr. Neil's practice. On our first appointment, my husband and I waited an HOUR to be called in (even after making the appointment). Once we were called in, they had so many patients, we had to keep waiting in the waiting area. Our visit lasted THREE hours! On my husband's second visit, he waited 30 min to be called in. Once he was in the exam room, he had to call the front desk because he had waited 45min with out anyone checking in on him. As my husband was ready to leave, he was hit the surprise that the had an unpaid balance (one for myself and another for him). The receptionist (Stephanie) was rude and became defensive as my husband tried to get clarity on bill. She made remarks such as "You knew you had copay... right?" It turned out an employee had undercharged us on our previous visit, leaving us with an unpaid balance. In addition, a gal named "Crystal" had told us we did not owe anything for my visit, and gave me a monthly contact set and told me it was a one-day contact. As we were leaving, we noticed a sign explaining "A $25 fee will be issued if an appointment is cancelled within 24 hours." We received four calls reminding us about our appointment but they did not the decency to alert customers about the fee. This was important because I had almost called to cancel my first appointment. But thats not all! When we went to Costco to purchase my contacts, the doctor there said they miswrote my prescription. Luckily they had my old one and they were able to order the correct lens. Would not recommend this place! This was our first experiences here and they made a horrendous first impression. We will not be coming back. read more

I did not feel the care received here was complete or comprehensive and more geared to selling me "computer" glasses that I didn't really need and they are decidedly less friendly when you ask for a copy of your prescription. My mother also went to this doctor for several years and 9 months after her last visit to this doctor, she went to a new doctor who diagnosed her with glaucoma. She had absolutely no indication from Advanced Eye Healthcare that she had any sign of glaucoma. I would not recommend. read more
