Undependable and unprofessional. I contracted with this company last year and they came in the spring of '17 and did a so so job....then they neglected to come on their appointed date of on or about Nov 30, stating that they were very busy. Nor did they come after that because they said it was "too cold" to clean gutters. Now they say they won't come because there is snow on the roof. There is also snow, ice and leaves in my gutters, which will cause them to overflow and possibly flood the basement. "Too busy, too cold" and now "too snowy"......I think that since I.C.E.'s crackdown on illegal aliens, they may have lost their work force. Better to do it myself. read more

First most reviews are horrible. Many many complaints and issues with pricing, and service. My brief dealing with Ned Stevens was much different. I reluctantly called asked for a quote to have my gutters cleaned. The Sales person asked a series of questions, quoted a price over the phone which was reasonable, upon showing hesitation, they drop the price $25. I mentioned the negative reviews on yelp. The sales person acknowledged it, addressed it. They do try to up sell, but was done in a polite and professional way even after I declined other services. They indicated I would be on the schedule to have the work done within a couple weeks. No exact given date. They came within two days , Did a good job, left no mess, good clean up. My dealings with Ned Stevens was much better than I anticipated. I did have low expectations however they exceeded them. Based on the price and the job I would recommend them. read more

We have been customers of Ned Stevens for many years during which time they have performed routine gutter cleaning services, emergency repairs and total gutter replacement. Overall, they consistently show up when they are supposed to, perform the services we contracted for, and advised us about any problems detected or additional maintenance required. Our one suggestion for change/improvement would be - especially for long-term repeat customers - is to consider merely emailing an annual renewal service agreement within a couple of months of the renewal date rather than resorting to the numerous contact attempts by phone well in advance of the renewal date, which can be annoying and which are usually screened out or ignored, at least until much closer to the renewal date. read more

Yes they clean gutters and put in downspouts no complaints did an ok job....but they will continue to relentlessly call you and push further services on you every 6 months without fail and overcharge for other services. For example my rear gutter was not pitched properly and was quoted by Ned Steven's $550 to pitch 1 gutter. I declined sales pitch and found a local fb/marketplace guy to do it for $100 including front gutter replacement which also needed pitched. Technicians came in first week of August while we were on vacation. Ignored large timers attached to water spigots and shut off the water after they cleaned the gutters. They had just been here June 20th, and there has been no rain, no storms, and a severe drought. We came back from vacation and due to their actions all of my plantings are now dead. When I called, they actually had photos of my spigot that "show boxes" but wont admit they are timers. I have asked repeatedly and they refuse to give notice ahead of time except a text that day which states that "they are on their way" (which I did not see this time). They will not schedule dates with you -- you get them whenever they want to show up. Why 2 out of 6 cleanings in the Diamond package occur in the dead of Summer makes no sense. They will not acknowledge that many people have timers -- I was told that timers are "rare" and "maybe one out of 10 customers have them" so they do not train their crews to deal with them and advise them to shut off the water after they are done. They said they take photos of the spigot to show customers that call to complain their water was left on -- but a photo of a spigot handle does not show if it is on or off. I have been a client for years -- years! - and spent $750 -$850 per year for this? They currently refuse to come out to see the damage. Buyer beware. read more

The work was probably fine, but unlike a lot of other gutter cleaning services, they didn't provide a photo to show me that the work had been completed and done well. How would I know? I hired them because I can't get up there myself. Also, they sent an email saying they'd noticed a problem, and that I should call them. I replied that I'd prefer they just email me about the problem. It bounced back as an email address that doesn't take replies. I hate that. Why email me and make it hard for me to email back? So I found a live email and said the same, to please email me what the problem was and to show me a photo of it when they do. No photo available, and they didn't email me. They called me. I specifically asked for an email, not a call. That's bad service. I won't use them again, but the base service may be fine. read more

Been using Ned Steven's for 5 years and have had nothing but problem with them. They raise their prices without notice, they do not clean up their messes. This year they came out in the middle of November to clean my gutters and left both times without cleaning them because their was no hose and water on for them to use. It is under freezing up in Northwestern NJ in the middle of December and I am sorry my water is turned off outside and my hoses are away for the winter to prevent frozen pipes. I was told that the crews are not allowed to do a dry cleaning without office permission. Maybe you should send out crews with a truck with their own hoses and ask me to turn on my water when you get here instead of just running in your truck and leaving. I definitely do it recommend this company. I am paying 360 dollars for them to clean my gutters and they treat their customers like crap. read more

We were looking to switch and tried Ned Stevens. Within 6 weeks we have a leak in multiple spots along one gutter. They refused to come fix it without charging us. They tried pushing their bigger service plan and we were clear we couldn't afford it because my husband lost his job. This guy refused to come fix THEIR bad work and then told us if we had the bigger plan they would've come. After complaining on the local Facebook forum multiple people also said they had issues with Ned Stevens and recommended someone else who is coming to fix it so at least there are good people but Ned Stevens is not good! read more

They urge you to pay an extra $100 to come the next day. Otherwise they first say "3-5 business days" and once these days have gone they say "the near future", "we cant even give you a window" etc. I had to call three times without getting any dates or clear answer and ended up canceling the reservation all together. read more

RUDE, PUSHY, POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS! I called to request a quote. The woman on the phone was very pushy in trying to making me agree to a service and then pushing me to sign up for a service agreement. I informed the woman that I needed to speak with my husband before agree to schedule. When I called back the woman had schedule a service without my agreement. The man on the phone was very rude and dismissive and all he kept telling me is how busy they are and how great the company is, well not great when you have pushy staff and are rude to potential customers yourself. This company is not responsive. To be clear their scheduling system is not responsive to when you need it (mid fall is the first week of fall for them), but when they did damage to our home, it has been a nightmare to get them to respond. During a cleaning, they workers dragged equipment (looks like a ladder from the perpendicular marks) across our brand new patio pavers. When I called, it was denied even before they saw the pictures. I sent photos. I emailed and did not receive an email response. WITHOUT MY PERMISSION, they showed up at our house to clean it. I came home to find a soaking wet patio (I was having people over the same day), and worse, there were divots and holes and chips in the pavers. I asked them what they were doing there, and they shrugged and said they were just told to go and clean this. They had a metal scraper and ironically the black markings were not even gone. I have sent pictures, sent multiple emails, called and sent a very reasonable estimate to replace the pavers,(which considering the trespassing and destruction of property, seems like their best way out) and they either don't respond, or they leave a message while we are working with a way to call a general customer service number with a 30 minute wait. They seem very practiced at dismissing your claims before they hear them, very quick to shoot down reviews, and very slow to respond with help. This is too much so to be unique to me. They have already responded to my previous review saying they have tried to contact me (but do not respond to my repeated requests to set up a time to talk or to respond to an email). We had brand new gutters put on our house 2 years ago. Ned Stevens said we needed new ones and that the pitch wasn't correct. I don't see a difference and it was rather expensive. The second part of our service was for them to snake out a downspout, which is causing overflow issues outside both our property and an adjacent neighbor. It's been going on 6 weeks and they still haven't performed service. I called to complain and they stated, "You're on the schedule." I called back again, and they moved my appointment up by 3 days due to my being very vocal and saying there was no communication and that the appointment was made well over a month ago. They agreed to move our appointment up by 3 days, but after I got off the phone, someone called back and said their schedule couldn't accommodate the change. I don't see the value in their service at all, not to mention they don't give any timeframes of when work will be completed. At the price I paid, I'm certain there are better options out there. I'm happy I didn't get rooked into their regular maintenance schedule. One last thing - the crew doing the gutter replacement left gutter screws IN the gutter and strewn about on the ground, on top of leaving me with a broken shingle to fix. Buyer beware! read more

Our gutters are in disrepair. One step towards getting our house reinsured is to clean them up. I reached out to ned stevens and spoke to a consultant over the phone. He was very courteous and confident. I let them know about some of the hazards around the property (our deck is also in disrepair), and he assured me they would be able to move around various obstacles. I also told him we would need to talk it over. He said it was fine and would send me out details over email. I could not open the file on email. The next day we hear a couple guys talking outside the house. As we're in the woods and weren't expecting anyone, my sister went out and asked who they were. "Gutters," they said. No knock on the door. My sister asked if they were here to take a look at them. They said they didn't speak much english and more or less ignored her. I called the company and they said they were scheduled to clean them today. I was a little annoyed that we didn't even set it up, but i said let's go for it. It needs to be done. By the time i got off the phone, the guys were gone. We called today to see what was going on, and they mentioned the hazards around the property like the deck, which i told them about. So they aren't doing anything for us, and we said we'll just find someone else. BBB for simple cleaning, i guess. I used Ned Stevens to clean my gutters. They also wash windows on the outside and powerwash houses. I signed up for both services and had to prepay. The windows were supposed to be washed in april. In may I called and informed them I needed to open the windows for air and asked how to proceed. They said that if their men arrived and found my windows open, the company would call me that day and inform me the men would arrive the next day and to close my windows then. So I went about my business. A few weeks later I came home, walked into my livingroom and found the whole room under water. The men had arrived and sprayed the windows even though they were wide open. The company NEVER called me the day before. I was enraged! Water all over my wood furniture, oriental rug, lamps, walls, etc. When I found the house being power washed, I noticed a horrible stink and asked what smelled. The only worker who spoke english said they used no chemical in their wash. I informed them they were lying. Then they admitted they were using bleach in their wash. I had incredibly beautiful landscaping around the house and property. In a few days I noticed the dwarf red maple had turned white from bleach, the miniature pine was turning brown from bleach, the azalias were dying and the place had been hit badly from bleach. The birch overhanging the rear deck had branches turning brown from bleach. These people are a menace to homeowners. My advice is to use them at your own risk. They certainly will not be allowed anywhere near my house again in the future. I'm through with them and GOOD RIDANCE! read more

I called Ned Stevens to clean my gutters on my 1 and 2 story home. I waited for a day specific as I want to be on site anytime contractors are working on the property. Ned Stevens would not give me a time when they would come to clean my gutters. I did not feel comfortable with people on the roof without me being here. They did however on the day of the schedule, after a long drawn out song and dance that included it was "not safe for them to call their servicemen" offer to call me when they contacted the service people. I left for a doctor's appointment and they then left a message they were on the way. I immediately changed my appointment, came home to find them not removing the gutter guards but hosing all the fine debris in the gutters into the downspouts and then that debris clogged up my piping away from the house. I had them disconnect the downspouts from the other underground drains and they did hose out the other gutters. While they did try to clear the clogged pipe with sticking the water hose in it; it did not work, they carry no snakes or other drain clearing materials and left it clogged. When I called into Ned Stevens to complain of the clogged pipe, they insisted they never have those problems, never disconnect the downspouts from underground drains and insist the underground drain pipe must have already been clogged. When you take globs of fine debris that gets through the gutter guard screen and flush it down a two story vertical downspout into a pipe that then makes a 90 degree turn and at a rate that is more then what a hose can wash away in the turn, it will clog up. We have gutter guards on all the gutters, and only fine material, less then 1/8" can get into the gutters and they were just fine. I hate being called a lair and them insisting they could not have clogged the pipe when all the evidence is right there in the fine debris that is coming out of the underground pipe. I personally watched them hose that debris right into the downspout and stopped them as soon as I saw what they were doing. The people at Ned Stevens making all the observations are not here to see but 100% sure their people did not cause the problem when all the physical evidence completely disproves their claim of irresponsibility. I now need to pay someone else to clear the pipe and will NEVER use Ned Stevens again. The tone and arrogant condescending judgments of Carlos Gonzales, reported supervisor at Ned Stevens and complete dismissal of any responsibility for their actions which I personally observed is disgusting. I do not trust them and will never allow them on my property again. I will be reporting them to the BBB and N.J. Consumer Affairs for poor and irresponsible business practices. Do yourself a favor and stay away -- they ruined my gutter guards and roof do to poor workmanship. They bent the guards, didn't reinsert the original screws and damaged the roof as a result of them shoving the guards in incorrectly causing them to break some of the shingles. When I called the office to ask that the owner come and look at the work that was done, the receptionist Lena, told me the owner would not talk to me and doesn't come in. As they moved the ladder around the house to clean the gutters, their ladders pulled my shutters off the house!! And they left without saying anything. Not a word! I can't believe the audacity. Spoke to 3 people to set up a gutter repair. The first was ready to schedule the repair as soon as possible. I was concerned they had not yet gathered enough information. So she suggested I send pictures and they would call me back. I did and no one called me back. I called again and the next person said no pictures were in my account record. So he suggested I send dimensions of the gutter to ensure they were prepared and could send me a more accurate quote. I asked my tenant to take measurements, which they did. I called a 3rd time. This time someone who said he was a manager answered, listened to the history and said he would definitely take care of everything. I again gave him my address. He looked it up on Google and said he had bad news as they could not repair any gutters on my block because the houses were too close and they did not have the right equipment. I used their services to clean gutter around my house. Two guys showed up on a weekend. One of them pretended not to understand English. As they were doing their work, I noticed that this guy was using a power screwdriver to unscrew the gutter. I asked him why he is loosening the gutter. He didn't give me a clear explanation, except that he is not able to clear the gutter. Later after the gutter cleaning, he showed me how the gutter has sagged and it will need replacement (3 year old house). The replacement cost - thousands of dollars. I noticed that his English was fluent when explaining the defect. Since the roof of my house was quite high, I sought a local gutter cleaner to examine it and they said many screws all along the gutter were unnecessarily loosened and the only fix needed was to tighten the screws. Sometimes they will be extremely neat and safety conscious, and other times they will be messy and I am simply watching to see when they are going to fall off the roof (they haven''t yet I must admit; also knock on wood for the future). We have been using Ned Stevens for several years since they replaced our gutters. This company is great. The workers are friendly, efficient and take great care to protect your property while performing the gutter cleaning. We also use them to clean our dryer vent which is located on the 2nd floor and is 15 feet long. My dryer serviceman said he had never seen a vent so clear. A few years back one of the workers pointed out that our roof had a small area that was starting to sag. We called our roofer and he was able to repair it before it became a much larger issue. We would not have noticed it if it had not been for the Ned Stevens worker. You can't go wrong with this company. read more

I've had it up to HERE with Ned Stevens. I was the resident of a home for two years that had a contract with Ned Stevens. At the time, I worked nights so I was usually home during the day. The first time my house my was serviced, I was startled to see workers throwing ladders against the front of the ranch-style house, where my first floor bedroom faced, I went out to tell the guys they should be notifying me before they began work on my residence. I am single mother of two young children and personal and home safety is a major concern for me. The next time they showed up unannounced. I called the company and told them they need to notify me before they begin work. The next time, again, I was home, car in the driveway, no one bothered to notify me. Once again, I was startled. I called again and once again told them that they need to notify me. I was yes'ed. Guess what? The next time, same thing. Because I was a tenant, I was not able to cancel the service. When i purchased my home, I hired another company to clean the gutters. They always call the same week they are planning to service my home. Imagine my surprise when yesterday, I was startled to find Ned Stevens workers on the roof of my porch, right in front of my bedroom window, cleaning the gutters! I yelled at the guy to get down. I went onto the street and told the guy he was at the wrong house. He insisted he was supposed to be there and showed me a handheld device which had the address. It was my next door neighbor's address! My house is not one of those houses where it's difficult to see the house number, nor my neighbor's. They just didn't bother to look and double-check the address. Had they tried to notify me by ringing my bell, I would have politely informed them that I had not hired them and if they showed me the address to service, I would have directed them to my neighbor's house. Instead, they threw up ladders, climbed on my house, and started work that they weren't supposed to do. In essence, they trespassed on my property. I called the company to complain and was told that it was a mistake. No sensitivity whatsoever that they trespassed in a very invasive and scary way. It was also a problem because they performed the work without notifying me first. The manager of the Fairfield office, Carlos Gonzalez, insisted it's company policy to notify the resident. Clearly, in my experience during the two years I rented the home with a Ned Stevens contract, they never notified me. And clearly in this incident, they did not notify me. I'm not proud about how I really lost my temper with Mr Gonzalez but he did not understand how upsetting this can be. Hearing "well, they weren't intentionally cleaning the wrong house" is really a non-starter. How about "wow, I'm so sorry that happened. I totally understand how you feel, especially since you were never notified at your other home when our workers showed up I shared my experience with a local Facebook group. Several people joked that I should have let them finish but I wouldn't have put it past Ned Stevens to charge me for this service. I'm really trying to not sound hysterical but it was traumatizing to have men on my roof that I was not expecting or wanting to be done. I feel like there is no recourse for me because I can't fire a company that I haven't hired and the company really doesn't care. They didn't enforce the "policy" of notifying residents before beginning work four years ago and they still don't. I shared this story on my local Facebook group, I'm leaving this review on Yelp, and I will be filing complaints with the BBB and Department of Consumer Affairs.
